I am very upset. I hope they to American and spend over $100 each time. I like everyone in there except the dingy Asian girl. Ok was getting cigarettes and a sign was on her side and ed forfcg where did we get those little tiny pizzas and Pizza Hut and they're 399 there's three of them and I don't know. I gotta get cigarettes.and sign said $.16 each. When she ran it up, there was over nine dollars each and I said something look at the sign, she said it went up real snotty. Then she asked me if I wanted to refund them. I said no walked out. I'm never shopping there again. read more

This morning, I called the shop because I live in oceanside and the store is in san marcos to do a simple stock.Check to make sure they had what I i was wanting to purchase. The lady on the phone answered said her name was cynthia, and when I asked her about what I was looking for she became rude, she asked who I was.I gave her my name and tried to give her an explanation because I shop there all the time during the work week.And i've met just about every employee. Typically, I get very positive people. Very friendly and very professional. On this day, I received a rude, an abrasive employee. I normally love this store and we'll only shop at this store for because of the people.And because of the atmosphere and they always go above and beyond.But not on this day when I showed up cynthia stated.Oh, you're the one that called.And then proceeded to grill me. I tried to put my hand up and get the situation to calm down and she went and got what I was looking for put it on the counter.And continued with the rude atmosphere. I know now not to shop on the days that she works because I will never deal with someone like that again when I am a frequent flyer there. read more

Great staff, often busy but always helpful. They have a fairly decent selection of ejuice, however wish they had more "dessert" (non-fruity) flavors. Not sure why local stores don't carry more, since people love them & seem to be top sellers whenever/wherever they are offered (ie. custard, caramel, oatmeal, cookie, brandy, tiramasu, snickers, snickerdoodle, etc). However, like I said, they have a decent selection of flavors @ reasonable prices. Also love the prices/selection on "old school" type incense. You can handpick flavors, always seems very fresh, burns well, everything you want from an incense stick. Very affordable! Just don't go right before closing. Yesterday was Sunday and I needed a new tank for my vape. Went to another shop that was closed, so decided to check this place out. I walked in and was greeted by Cynthia. We went over what I needed (I had atomizers with me that I wanted to use) and she figured out which ones would work for me. Got a SMOK product for only $29. They are normally $40-50 everywhere else. They even have the little plastic glass protectors so your tank won't break if you tip it over! Extremely great customer service and I will definitely be back! HIGHLY recommend this place! read more

My husband and I highly recommend this smoke shop. They have super good pricing along with an amazing selection. We drive past three other smoke shops just to go to this one. Every time we go there they have a ton of sales and it is always clean. I don't smoke hookah but they have this cool fruit bar, where I believe you can make your own flavors or mix them or something. My silly face thought that they actually had a fruit bar to get fresh fruit, which would be a good idea because we would definitely buy some. I bet they'd have great pricing on that too. They have an employee named Charlie, he is super friendly and knowledgeable. His personality and demeanor are another reason we go back, you just don't find customer service like that anymore. There's a lot of times that I'm just a chatty Cathy, I also have a habit of looking at things after im done with my purchase. I really appreciate the fact that he never makes me feel rushed or seems bothered that we (including our pup) are still there. He has this way of making you feel welcomed that many people don't have these days. You never feel like he just wants you to get in and get out, that gentleman deserves a raise. Anyways, we definitely recommend this smoke shop. I will say they need to update their pictures on Google, they don't do justice for how beautiful this shop it is, it also doesn't show what they actually offer. We will be back! read more

We bought our first and third hookah here. We gave the first one away not because anything was wrong with it, but because we wanted to upgrade to a bigger one. Our first hookah was a small, purple guy with a pink hose. It hit pretty well, came with all the necessaries plus a case and brush for something like $36. Our third hookah we purchased just recently. We had a lot of questions, as we were purchasing a fancier one. The guy working was very helpful. We brought it home, but realized the rubber ring thingy was cracked. We brought it back and they replaced it with no problem. It hits well so far, and we've received many compliments. My roommate also loves place because of the selection. Nat Shermans and other fun stuff he can't get elsewhere. read more

I've been coming here as needed for years now. The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful. There's a woman working there who's "helped me" the past several times I've been in who just doesn't seem to enjoy being there. She gave me a hard time the last time I was in shopping for a quartz cup, second-guessing the measurements I'd taken for my piece and just being very rushed and not helpful. Yesterday I was in and received the same service while shopping for a carb cap and terp pearls. The terp pearls I was looking at were labeled $1.99 for a pair. They had several jars on sale of these that each only had one terp pearl in the jar. When I brought this up, the woman just said "well if there's only one there's only one" and seemed annoyed. She eventually offered to mix and match two different ones that were on sale for $1.99/pair, each. I noticed on my receipt I was charged $4.99 for the pair instead of $1.99. So after receiving bad, rushed service I was charged more than double the advertised price. I've liked this shop and it's right down the street from me, but this "sales" woman is making it hard for me to justify continuing here. read more

I've been coming to American for at least the last 5 years or so now. Sam, the owner, is a really chill dude. He makes you feel very welcome. I love the variety of glass the shop offers. I have always gone to American for all my Hookah needs. (I smoke hookah on the reg) I feel as though American has the best prices of any Smoke Shop in San Marcos. Super friendly staff, and I really like the free bbq events they host. Super cool way to show appreciation for the customers. Being a Hookah smoker, its weird to see how small the hookah & shisha supply have dropped down to a fraction of what it was, but times have changed and vaping is the new thing. I get it. I will not return to this place again after today. I feel bad for the employees because the prices are constantly changing going up and down, and the same exact item will have a different price on it depending on where it is in the store. I am strictly into e-cigs and have even gotten a few other people to switch from analogs to vaping but sadly this place is right down the street and I just can't bring myself to spend another dime there. I have been ripped off and even worse, the friends I have told to go there get ripped off when I'm just trying to help them find an alternative to smoking cigs. Sam, because of your employee on 3/18/12 you lost two customers that have been faithful since I moved to SD county a few months ago. Together we easily spend well over a hundred if not more each month on supplies from your shop. Please clean up your price tags and get some education on the vape section for your employees/(self?) or the new shop in San Marcos is going to completely envelop a large part of your customer base. I tried so hard to like this place since its walking distance but too many "I dunno's" and just I don't cares, and price change from day to day or depends who is working. And no one seems to know nicotine levels of juices, just a mess! Maybe if you are a hookah customer that dept. is run better but the e-cig section needs a lot of help or it won't last. I've talked to other people in the store while browsing and have heard the same complaints from them. I'm not wasting any more money here, two different products that I bought from here were faulty. One vape pen that the manager claimed was "top of the line" the other a lighter.
