I took a taxi from Ohare to my house, asked repeatedly to see the meter which he never showed me, and was charged almost double the usual fare when we arrived. I offered to pay the usual fare and the cab driver called the police who made me pay the entire bogus fare and said I would need to take this up with the cab company. I have called the office on 6 occasions. When I leave a message no one ever calls me back, and when I am able to speak with a person, I have been told that there is nothing they can do for me because I did not have an order. We received a confirmation last night but no taxi arrived this morning, We tried calling but we could not get a live person. This company is unreliable. American taxi failed to show up twice for my disabled son. The first time was 9/29 for a ride scheduled in advance at 9:05pm from work to home. We use American taxi all the time. Yesterday morning our driver, cab #47, was late picking us up, then thought he was Mario Andretti on I-294; he was cutting off other drivers, driving in marked off lanes; we felt lucky to arrive in one piece, even though we arrived at the airport late. One of us left a cell phone in the backseat of the taxi, and within 5 minutes had called the driver to let him know....the driver came back (hadn't left the airport yet), and then got pissed that we didnt give him additional money for coming back (we had already gave him a $10 tip), and stated that he had lost a fare because he had to come back (which we know was BS). read more

Worst taxi I've ever experienced. Disgusting in every way. Filthy, smokey interior, driver constantly coughed without covering his mouth, unbathed & rude. Gave me a hard time because I wanted to crack my window due to the overwhelming smell of smoke throughout the vehicle. He was a horrendous driver that jerked the wheel in turns on the tollway creating great anxiety as our trip was just starting. I will NEVER use this company again. Driver was rude. Greeted me and my family not with hello or good morning, but "If not ready in 5 mins, I cancel order" instead. I asked for a few more minutes to check the house for lights and doors. Luggages already loaded in his van, which he didn't help. He waited until everyone is ready, when my kids were ready to get in the van and then he took our luggages out of his van and said he canceled order. I used American Taxi for 20 years. But it is getting worse and worse in last few years. I had a few late arrivals. I had the same Korean driver twice. He claimed he was 80 years old and demanded to give him 15% tips. How safe is to have a 80 yrs old driver? It is crazy. It was $44 from O'Hare to Naperville in 2018. Then it went up to $47 in 2019. It raised again to $54 this year. Again they add another $5 for after 7pm. It becomes $59. The owner of the business is hungry for money. I think it is go up to 60+ soon. I travel every week. I'd give them a zero if I could. Horrible experience with American Taxi last week. First, I made a reservation to pick me up at Midway Airport. The driver was 1/2 hour away. What's the purpose of making a reservation? After attempting to contact American Taxi via phone calls and getting no answer to any extensions I entered and a few emails, and no responses, it appears drivers and office personnel are all the same. Apparently do not care about their customers at all. I noticed the driver was not wearing his mask which was draped over the gear shift. When I asked him to wear it, he got very belligerent and started yelling, but with his heavy accent, I couldn't understand him. He refused to put it on. This was an epic failure of a ride. I am now able to see why their prices are much more reasonable than private cars, but not worth the aggravation or the lousy customer service. read more

I used this company for years and had excellent service but after this week's experience I will not use them again. I ordered a cab to pick my children and I up from the airport. The driver did not wear a mask and refused to put a mask on when I requested it. I saw he did not have a mask at the time he loaded the suitcase in the trunk but assumed he would put it on when he got in the car. When he did not, I said "I thought all drivers had to wear masks" and he said he did not have to because he was vaccinated. At this point because we were already on the road I did not ask him to turn around (and we were very late having had a several hour flight delay). My children and myself were wearing our masks, but this is an important issue as my son cannot yet be vaccinated because of his age. (my daughter and I are both fully vaccinated) While we were traveling I checked the company's website and confirmed that it said that all drivers were required to wear masks, which was my understanding despite what the driver had told me. I would not have ever bookedour the service if it did not have this requirement, again because my son is not vaccinated it is very concerning to me that he would be in a car without someone not wearing a mask. I told the driver after he had dropped us at our home that the website says he is required to wear a mask. He argued with me and told me he is not required to and "I shouldn't be worried." I am very disappointed in this behavior, the services, and most importantly the driver's attitude about this. To make matters worse I sent an email laying this all out to the company and after two days have still not heard back. It is unacceptable and a health hazard for these drivers to behave this way. Absolutely horrible, will never use again. Arrived to Ohare after a long international flight and was ready to take a cab at 11:30pm. Previously reserved a car in order to secure a pick up when we arrived. Once we had our bags we used the automated system and the automated system did not update with a taxi number. After speaking with dispatch they said the car would arrive in 15 minutes. after 20 minutes I tried calling the assigned driver who put me into voicemail. After 30 minutes passed I called dispatch again and they said they had to get a different driver who was another 30 minutes away. We were not going to wait an hour for a taxi. I cancelled the reservation and took an Uber home. Uber showed up in 4 minutes of booking. read more

I used to use American Taxi all the time and wanted to use it today for the first time since 2019 since I have resumed travel. Given all the time that has passed, I used the app to start scheduling my trip from O'Hare and tried - multiple times - to click on the "calculate fare" button. Unfortunately, American Taxi disabled that option and expected me to confirm my trip without having any idea of what it would cost! What a sleazy outfit! It was a snap to get the cost from Lyft in advance, so I booked a Lyft and deleted the American Taxi app. - never going back to such a sleazy outfit! read more

Recently I ordered a taxi online to pick me up at O'Hare. My flight was late but they tracked it and the cab was there when I came out of the terminal. It was very easy, very well organized, and felt very safe because they even texted to make sure I was in the cab. The price was also good. It was an excellent experience. Not bad, not great; my experiences with American Taxi have generally been acceptable. Years ago, this would have earned them 4 ~ 5 stars, when compared to some of the other suburban taxi services in the area... But in the rideshare era, American Taxi's service and prices don't stand out as much. My address doesn't show up in the right spot on many GPS devices, so it can be difficult explaining where my place is to taxi drivers. Being able to pinpoint my location via the Lyft or Uber application make these services much more useful to me. If your address is easier to find, this might not be as big of a game-changer for you. Their biggest strength is the size of their fleet; I've never had to wait more than a few minutes to get picked up by American Taxi, even during peak hours (with the still-limited number of rideshare drivers in the area, sometimes there won't be an availability for tens of minutes during prime time and surges). It seems like they may have more ADA compliant handicap-accessible vans or large SUVs available as well. In almost every other aspect - modernness & quality of the vehicle, driver knowledge (thanks to pre-planned GPS-tracked routes), ease of booking, simplicity of transaction, and price (except during surges) - American Taxi falls behind the various rideshare services in the area. read more

I am assuming the company's poor service is due to a worker shortage. I ordered a taxi for my 5 a.m. trip to Midway Airport and everything regarding this trip was great...the taxi was at my house at 5 a.m. and quickly got me to the airport. But then using the company's online order form to schedule my return ride from Midway and getting no confirmation, I ordered again via text and then by calling the company. Honestly, I must have ordered my return trip five times. But there was never any confirmation. So I took an Uber home from Midway Airport after waiting for a message from American Taxi that my ride would be coming. After I climbed in the Uber car, I called American Taxi to cancel my order, but the automated system said that there was no record of a scheduled trip for me. It's mind boggling that a company can operate this way. read more

Although we've used this company for over 5 years, we are severely disappointed with a recent lack of service. We had placed an order for a pickup a week in advance, including airline flight # and time of arrival at O'Hare. We had our luggage, texted "R", and got the message, "We are attempting to assign you a cab number, please be patient." 20 min later--I tried to text again, only to receive the 'stock' reply. We continued to try and text. 40 min later--At that point, we called dispatch twice, and it was suggested that we had just requested this cab--NOT acknowledged that we had made a reservation A WEEK BEFORE. During this time, over 10 American taxis DROVE BY US at Terminal 1 in O'Hare, many without fares, as though they had no idea who they were looking for. It was particularly aggravating to watch them pass us by, as we waited with NO UPDATE information from the dispatcher. NOT providing any update information to loyal customers is very poor service. Despite having a reservation, after 1/2 hour, we did NOT have a taxi number assigned and had NO idea of how much longer our wait would be. 1 hour later--STILL no taxi number; we gave up and found another way home. We won't be calling American Taxi again. read more

BEWARE!! This company is going downhill fast. I have used them reliably for 15+ years, but after my most recent experience I am done with them. I booked a ride 2 days in advance of an early morning ride I needed to get to OHare for a flight. It was confirmed via text and email 2 days in advance. Then on the morning of my flight I got a text 15 minutes before my taxi was supposed to arrive that they had not yet assigned my cab and were having trouble filling my order. I called their dispatch, and after jumping through lots of hoops to get a real person on the phone I was told that they had a lot of cabs out "on holiday" and had a cab shortage. I told them that's fine, except then why did they accept my booking two days in advance and then tell me 15 minutes before my cab is supposed to arrive that they don't have cabs? The dispatcher then told me he put a "rush" on my order and that a cab would be coming shortly. I asked when the cab would arrive, and he said "he will be at your doorstep at 6:05 am". This would have been about 10 minutes after my phone call to dispatch. Unfortunately I was blatantly lied to by the dispatcher. I waited until 6:15, at which time the cab had not showed up and I received ANOTHER text saying they STILL had not assigned my cab. At this point I was cutting it too close for my flight and had to find an alternate ride. Guess who got my business? Uber. Yes, Uber. The bane of every cab company's existence. But they were reliable and were at my door in 5 minutes. You would think cab companies like American Taxi would try a little harder to keep loyal customers, but alas they don't seem to know how to conduct good business anymore. They certainly will not be getting any more of mine. It's unfortunate when a company alienates a loyal customer of over 15 years. read more

I just spent a half an hour trying to order a taxi for a ride to Midway airport. Their website is a joke. The website kept losing my order and sending me on a circular jerkoff. When trying to telephone American Taxi to order the taxi, the phone menu would send me down several rabbit holes all the while refusing to allow me to speak to a person. I use American Taxi a lot....almost weekly. While not perfect, they have been the most reliable transportation for me to/from the airports. I've tried limo services and found myself waiting at the airport for 45 minutes for a car to show up. And, the limo services always want you scheduled too early as they base it on flight time. I've had a couple of issues over the years with American taxi drivers not showing up on time or having to wait an extra 10 minutes at the airport. And, the taxi's themselves are not luxurious in any way. But I cannot find a more reliable service. At the end of a week of business travel, all I want to do is get home as quickly as possible, and so far, American taxi has been the best option. I do think that they should do more to acknowledge and accommodate frequent users. Either some sort of points award that can be used for rides or perhaps provide priority service for airport pickup to minimize wait times. read more

Aweful customer service. Tried to book fare and prepay and they told me to log into website. Tried. It didn't work. When I called me back and told them they told me to call back on Monday. Told them the fare was for Sunday and they sent me to a voicemail box of someone who wasn't in until Monday. I tried back again to no avail. Used American Taxi with no problem going to the airport. Made arrangements through the app before we left for pick up at O'Hare. Checked when we landed and no reservation showed up on the app. The app kept disconnecting when trying to reschedule. Called MULTIPLE times before finally getting a person on the phone. They said they are overbooked and don't have a driver. Left us screwed at O'Hare at midnight with no ride. Will NEVER use them again because they are so unreliable.
