This is a great family owned restaraunt and bar located right on Western Ave. The drinks are great, many different tequilas to choose from, staff is also friendly. My husband and I love tacos and can eat them everyday so of course we both were totally geeked when Americanos opened. We tried a variety of tacos and all very good. My favorite was the shrimp taco. My wife and I had just returned from a 5 day trip to Miami so we were still in the festive mood. So we decided to try Americanos as it was local and we heard good things from friends. Walking in the decor screams Mexican restaurant, however after my wife and I sat for a while it felt more like a sports bar. There was loud rock music playing in the background and several TVs with sports on them. Not what you would expect from a full service restaurant. We were there on Taco Tuesday and during happy hour. Tacos were half price and the magaritas were 5 dollars. The drinks were well crafted and delicious. We tried the magaritas and mojitos. I must say the mojito did appear to be made from a premade syrup. For the appetizer we tried the chorizo and sweet potato empanada which was just average. The best thing about it was the Avacado ranch dipping sauce. We ordered an assortment of tacos including the fish, shrimp, elotes/poblano, pork, brisket and steak. My wife and I agreed the Tacos were below average. They all were creative combinations but they were not executed well as they lacked flavor. The service was decent as the place was not busy. Overall the experience was very underwhelming. I would likely not return for food, but would be glad to return for drinks. read more

Food here was fresh and made to order. I had wings which came with their own home made dipping sauce. Next I had the grilled cheese sandwich which almost was perfect. It had nice sauce to dip sandwich in. Only downside was that certain parts of sandwich where harder then others. Sever was nice and explained what some of the stuff was. I have never been so disappointed in an establishment in all my years. Americanos used to be one of my favorite restaurants in my neighborhood. I never had a problem with service or management and would brag to my friends about this place until recently. When I walked in I wasn't greeted by workers, nobody acknowledged me until they noticed I sat at a table for a larger party. I invited a few friends to meet me for food and drinks after work. We are all working professionals just looking to unwind and chat about our day. It quickly went downhill when we noticed we seemed to be bothering the server when asking for something so simple as napkins. The server brought two napkins for a party of five and looked shocked when we asked for more. Mind you, we are the only party in the restaurant at this time, so I'm not sure why it was such a bother to service us. A person in my party asked for one accommodation after spending quite a bit of money. We were told by management that they don't make accommodations anymore amongst other things. I tried talking to the manager to get a better understanding, and he spoke to me in the most disgusting tone I've ever been spoken to. I thank my group mates for keeping a clear mindset during this situation because there is no reason why we should have been addressed in such a way, especially by management. Needless to say, we got the check and moved on to more accommodating establishment in the neighborhood. The saddest part is that one of my friends drove an hour to come to this establishment just to be treated terribly. I am embarrassed that I suggested this restaurant. Shame on you! read more

Love this place. In just a few years has become a South Side staple! If you are looking to bring the family and have a nice meal out, Americanos can do that. Looking to have drinks with friends? They have you covered. All the food is exceptional, especially the wings and chorizo and sweet potato tacos. All the cocktails are made just right and the bartenders and wait staff are kind and attentive. An added bonus is in the summer months the patio adjacent to the restaurant is open for business. So you can enjoy all Americanos has to offer in the sunshine. The patio often hosts some live music during the day or night and their Up in Smoke festival during the summer is a can't miss! read more

Went here for dinner once. The presentation was great. Everything looked so good and appealing but presentation isn't everything. I had two tacos and they were basically tasteless. They had absolutely no flavor at all. I tried adding the mild salsa to the taco to get some flavor but the salsa was also tasteless with no heat at all. Even the hot salsa only had a small amount of flavor but no heat, like they had forgotten to add the peppers to it. The prices on the menu are very reasonable. It would be nice if everything was for sale. The reverse side of the menu features the bar offerings. Disappointed that sangria is not on the list. A decent beer menu with bottles and cans. I found it odd that draft beer was not offered with such a nicely designed bar area. Many mixed drinks and a fair wine selection. I studied and made my final beer selection only to find that they do not yet have their liquor license. So I flipped the menu over and was advised that one fourth of the food menu was not available. I like fish tacos but could not taste the fish over the grease in the thick deep fried breading. The rest of the taco was great. The salsa was different but good. Most of the chips were chewy. I ordered all of the sides and they were good but never received the house slaw. I asked for it to go when the check arrived but was told I would have to wait 30 minutes. The table service was adequate just as long as you are persistent in asking for things that should already be on the table when the food is served like napkins, plates and silverware. Maybe refried beans is now a finger food? My water glass was never refilled. My wife said the pork and chicken in her tacos were overcooked and tough. We enjoyed the Diet Cokes. I dined in here for the first time with my friend, Sam, who is an elite Yelper. I had a pretty solid experience and my visit was long overdue. We started off with some drinks (Corona and Modelo) along with chips and guacamole plus two salsas. Sam and I both agreed that the guacamole was delicious. Nothing was overpowering like many places in the neighborhood like to do with tomatoes, etc. Overall, just really tasty guacamole and chips were great as well. Both salsas were pretty good, too. They didn't jump out at me, but I will admit that I was eating the guacamole so much that I didn't have that much so it's hard to give an accurate review. Sam ordered a meatball torta and he enjoyed it. I ordered the steak torta and it was very flavorful and filling, too. I'm no torta expert so I don't have much to say here, but I thought it was really good and would go back to get another in the future. Service was good and the bartender was very friendly. I was a big fan of the atmosphere in here which is a big reason I will try to return. It's a really cool looking place plus I loved the St. Rita state championship flag hanging up. They also played a lot of great music while we were in there such as Audioslave which was a nice tribute to the late Chris Cornell. It is a little pricey, but not enough to steer me away. I know they have a taco Tuesday and torta Thursday to get a deal on them which is pretty cool. This is a new restaurant that has only been open a couple of weeks (if that). Im giving 4 stars based on the fact I loved the food for the most part, and they have great potential! We are so excited to see another great restaurant come to our neighborhood that has been starving for options beyond pizza and burgers! We were greeted immediately by the hosted (very nice BTW) and told that they don't have alcohol because they have not received their liquor license yet... We southsider's have a rep for being drinkers I guess.. but my husband and I really aren't so this didn't deter us, haha. The waitress later told us they are BYOB until they get the license so if you'd like to drink, you can always BYOB for now. Their menu is pretty simple, and actually the drink menu, though I didnt take time to look closely - took up the same amount of space as the food. Simple starters included guacamole and chips, which we ordered. It was good! Everything is á la carte here. Two salad options, and a lot of taco choices and torta choices. Also give optional sides of beans, rice and a couple of others. We both ordered tacos - and between the two of us managed to try six of them (did a little sharing)! I will say, I dont love that they are served all together on a platter like small plates. I would have preferred we each get our own dish but its not a big deal I guess! They use homemade corn tortillas which were great! I am not usually a fan of corn because they tend to always be dry and/or fall apart but these are great! My favorite was probably the pork taco..loved it, followed by sweet potato and chorizo! That was just unique and had good flavor. What I loved about the fish taco was the fish itself - it was good, and crispy without falling apart or being mushy like so many fish tacos I have had. That was a little spicier than I thought it would be though. Also enjoyed the steak. Chicken had a great flavor to the chicken itself - but seemed a bit unexciting for additional ingredients. Brisket I was excited about but my husband thought it was dry and I just thought that was a bit boring and bland... So that was the one I wouldn't probably try again. I did get the side of rice but I probably won't next time. I thought it was ok, definitely not exciting and not worth $2.50. Our server was great, forgot to get her name. Drinks took forever but she apologized. There was not many options with the bar closed - Mexican coke (not a huge fan) and cans of diet coke (hate cans at a restaurant). I went with the limeade which she explained they were just making more of. So that came out late but when it did, it was delicious. YUM. Next time I will try the horchata which she said was great. My only wish for drinks would be, just have fountain pop machine that has regular options for us boring people who like a good fountain coke etc when we go out and aren't drinking alcohol. We were there on a Sunday night and most tables had families but they must not have a kids menu? I hope they reconsider that or forgot to tell us - I feel like this is a big family neighborhood and as evidenced by almost every patron we saw - it would be nice to have some plain kid choices - even 2 or 3, and some kid-friendly drinks (regular lemonade, milk).. Simple is fine but just something. Overall though - we really enjoyed our food and can't wait to go back. Came here to try there new brunch menu and it was amazing! The French toast has a different flavor every week which is cool. I had the chorizo and eggs and it was realllllllly good. Lots of small but nice changes to the menu. Added lemonade for the kids which they love. The poblano corn, shrimp and chorizo sweet potato tacos were on point and delicious. Tortillas home made which is a nice touch. Drinks were great too! Had the blueberry mojito. Service was great. Overall a great place for everyone to enjoy. This place is awful....please don't be fooled by the perception of professionalism with staff or owners. My family and I dined at the restaurant about 2 weeks ago just wanting to try something new in the neighborhood. The food on the menu was very simplistic despite the pricing. When leaving the restaurant we had the pleasure of seeing some cooks lounging outside smoking, cursing and using derogatory terms about some cultural group members, they were dressed be filthy and, spitting on the ground numerous times. Checked out Americanos today, heard it just opened on Thursday. It was currently BYOB bc their license hadn't cleared yet but that didn't bother my group at all and we came prepared. Popped in on a Sunday during late lunch and it was packed but in a good way and not overwhelming. Their parking lot is clutch. I have to say i was very impressed with the tacos. Out of the 8 of us we surely ordered evey kind and they did not disappoint. The portion sizes were very generous, happy to find they do homemade chips and chorizo. Def did not leave hungry. Excited to come back and get some cocktails and other drinks at the bar. The server Colette was on her A game and even though it was opening weekend and the suspected disorganization was there she handled herself great and made it a very enjoyable experience. Their salsa options for the chips should prob be offered to pair with the tacos and i hope they add a more traditional style tomato salsa but the guac and dips were very flavorful regardless. You can tell they have good cooks in the kitchen. Cant wait to come back and try more. Surely will be returning. read more

I wanted to give this restaurant a 5. We really enjoy good Mexican food. The restaurant itself was cute, I thought the signage was cute, and we were really looking forward to our meal. The service was sub par-unfortunately. The waitress we had was apparently new and kept forgetting things, like drinks, part of our meal, etc... she just didn't check on us either. We kept asking our wonderful busboy for things- he'd make a great server- very attentive. The manager/hostess was very nice. She apologized for the waitress being new. I told her we can understand, but I asked her to keep an eye on our table since our waitress couldn't handle it. When you go out your paying for the experience. And the experience was affected by the waitress. The thing I was actually most upset about was the food! The food had such great reviews here. I was happy to recommend this place because of the reviews. I don't know if the people that have gone here and left reviews just don't know what authentic Mexican food tastes like, but this was not authentic Mexican food. We ordered nachos- they were a disaster. They were a disgusting mess of chips, beans, some cheese, and some pickled things on top as well as some jalapeños. They were tasteless. We ate them because we were starving- otherwise, we wouldn't have, honestly. Next we had tacos, and, one of us had a burrito. The steak in the tacos was overcooked and hard to chew. There were some onions on the side, but they did nothing to support the dish. The rest of the ingredients on the taco were forgettable. It wasn't delicious. The burrito which I got to try a bite, was an odd combination, of beans, meat, sweet potato, it was just weird. And it was bland. Then we come to the elote-- which we all normally like to eat, however not this recipe. The cream sauce on it was so bland and lifeless. We wiped it off and wound up eating the corn, and that was when that finally arrived after being forgotten- Another mistake in our order. Which the restaurant comped for the mistake- the corn- that was nice of them since it came after the meals. We appreciated that courtesy. The food though, it lacked a soul. I will say there is one shining star we would go back for and have as a take out-- the salsa and chips! That salsa is very good! It's a little different then other salsas- it wasn't pico de Gallo, and it wasn't typical. It was thick, it had a rich flavor, and that had a heart beat. Like I said in the beginning, we really wanted to like this place, but we are definitely experienced foodies and love really great food with flavor and good service. This missed the mark though. If you are looking for a quick takeout of chips and salsa, or maybe a couple beers with chips and salsa-- this could be a good choice for that. read more
