There is nothing worse then a crowded bar packed to the absolute max and unable to get a literal water. Dying of thirst and the bartender's would only pay you any attention if you "flash them cash". My friends and I bought a pass that ensured an open bar, which the DJ kept also endorsing. I made my way up to the bar for a water after the space had become extremely and overwhelmingly packed. Bartender in blue ignored service because we weren't "flashing her cash", despite the open bar pass. I had to ultimately leave due to dehydration and refusal of water. Truly upsetting. read more

Unfortunately my phone fell out of my pocket while i was there, but luckily the cleaning staff picked it up and when i went back the next day i asked and it was brought right to me at the front door. It's really tough to review America's Backyard because of the changing crowd which crowd seems to bring its own party theme along with it. Mostly it depends upon the time of day or day of the week or season on the year. Late afternoons when it opens around five o'clock, it's common to see private groups celebrating with office parties, birthdays, engagements, marriages and as now very common, divorces or relationship breakups. As a side note, the divorce and relationship breakup parties tend to be the most festive as well as gregarious. Later as evening hums along, things tend to get wilder. The ten o'clock groups with mostly younger 20 to early 30 somethings take over sucking their drinks through swizzle sticks and seem to be there for the specific purpose of getting themselves into party mood. Then, come around about midnight there usually comes another 20 something crowd bringing with it a lot of dancing, cheering and raving that often breaks out with college fraternity or sorority gangs or those arriving after a rock concert at nearby Revolution or one of the other nearby Himmarshee District venues. Indeed, things can become messy with plenty of not all that sober partiers, but since America's Backyard is a really large open spacy establishment, it handles any such crowd very well. The best features of America's Backyard that make it really conducive to the young party group gangs are that it is big with plenty of room to move around in, has several bars (the Candy Bar can be a hoot), fun loving dancing, bar staff pouring drinks while on the bar and one of the best sound systems around. Basically and overall ABY is a party place for the young, particularly during the late hours of the night or early hours of the morning, well suited for it with plenty of hooting, hollering, frolicking, drinking and fun. read more

All the rumors about Fort Lauderdale are true at America's backyard! I was there with the Yelp Spring Break crew on a Friday night when they were featuring there ladies drink free until midnight special! I couldn't believe it. all the women have unlimited free drinks until midnight. Everybody received one free drink by simply checking in on Yelp. It was really a wild party atmosphere with smoke machines, loud music, and bartenders pouring shots directly into your mouth! The scantily clad girls selling tybe shots for $3 were grest too. Love this place! Best bar in downtown Fort Lauderdale. If you are on spring break this is the first place I would recommend coming.

The venue was pretty cool, but they had to have picked the DJ up off the street earlier that day. He pretty much screamed into the mic the whole time, couldn't even hear the music, and he said the same 4 things over and over again. Shame on the staff for making people pay $50 covers to listen to that atrocity. If that's what America's Backyard is like, I'd rather stay inside. read more

I've been here a few times and usually have a good time, but last night was horrible. I am 27 years old and I felt extremely uncomfortable. It felt like I was surrounded by college freshman who are out drinking for their very first time. It was overly crowded with utter drunkness. I feel like bartenders definitely over serve here. The most disappointing was the bar all the way to the right when you walk in. Male bartender was EXTREMELY rude. I ordered a spritzer and asked for some napkins.. He THREW the napkins at me! My jaw dropped, that is so disrespectful. He acted as if I was bothering him. This was the only drink I ordered, I quickly drank it and left. When you go out you expect to be bumped into by some drunks, but you should never have things thrown at you by the staff. I've been coming to this place for over 14 years. They have a lot of different genre events and concerts. I personally like this outdoor venue because it has big bars and I don't smell like smoke when I leave. Of course you have to watch the weather but the bars are covered as well as the upstairs vip like area. The bathrooms aren't huge so a line can form if it's packed but it was never too long of a wait. When there's not a special events it's a good spot to meet up with your friends just to get the night started of you don't have plans in cement. It's central to a couple Parking lots and close to all the other bars so bar crawls or club hopping from there is cool too if you like move around. read more

NEVER. AGAIN. I've been here a couple times and haven't ever really been a fan, but my most recent visit will most certainly be my last. Why? Because I was roofied here, and the fact that I had multiple hours of my life robbed from me understandably sours my opinion of the place. I unwittingly ended up here because I had bought tickets to see New Found Glory at Revolution Live. Unbeknownst to me, when the ticket says "Revolution Live Outdoors" - they mean America's Backyard. Not knowing this, my friend and I rushed in to Revolution to snag some spots by the balcony... only to realize not many people were camping out, which was strange. Then we saw people heading for the doors. Uh oh. We walked outside, and to our dismay, saw the massive crowd huddled together in what I knew would become one gigantic mosh pit. My friend and I resolved that we were NOT going to be stuck down there, and realized our only opportunity to see the show in relative comfort was to sit in the VIP area of America's Backyard, on their balcony. At $125 a bottle (and a maximum of two people, if you wanted to bring a third person, that meant you needed to get 2 bottles), I was peeved... but whatever, I wanted to actually SEE the show and make it out alive. So I coughed up my credit card and ID, and we sat at our table. It started off fine... plenty of people had the same idea as us, but the VIP area wasn't overwhelmingly crowded, unlike downstairs. When it came time for the show to start, we brought our bottle and cups over to the edge of the balcony to watch, only to have the waitress tell us we couldn't keep our drinks on that ledge. Okay, so we put them back on the table. And therein lies my mistake... because I had a false sense of security that my drink wouldn't be touched in this area. I was wrong. Although I only remember drinking two glasses of champagne, I apparently was wasted. I say apparently because I remember NOTHING after the first song the band played. At that point, I didn't even feel tipsy, I recall singing along and enjoying the music. But it was like being put under anesthesia: one minute, I'm listening to the band play their first song, and the next, I'm waking up in bed the next day with a bruise on my forehead, along with a cut and dried blood, and absolutely no recollection of how I got there. I realized I didn't have my credit card in my wallet, and asked my friend if she had signed for me, since I didn't remember signing anything. She told me she had, and that the waitress had been really pushy, but that she couldn't remember if the card was given back to me. I ended up calling Chase and canceling it, rather than going back to the bar to retrieve it. Once on the phone with them, I realized the bar charged me about $100 more than they should have. I asked my friend about what happened since I couldn't remember anything, and as far as she knew, I was just really, really drunk, so she drove me home in my car, leaving hers in the garage downtown. It wasn't until later, when I was telling one of my friends who is a firefighter about what happened, that it was brought to my attention that what I experienced most likely wasn't from alcohol. He told me that it sounded like I had been drugged... and upon recounting my experience to others, several friends who have also unfortunately been roofied before agreed with that assessment. I told my boss the next day, and he freaked out, because a month prior to this happening to me, one of his friends had been drugged at the very same place, and had been raped. I've been very, very drunk before, and have NEVER experienced any kind of memory loss like I did after visiting this place. I will say that I'm really lucky. I am very fortunate to have had a great friend who took care of me, and didn't leave me to fend for myself. I don't want to think about what would have happened had she not done so. Is it entirely fair of me to bash America's Backyard when it was almost certainly a patron who did this to me? You know what, I don't care. I already didn't like this place before, but you can bet I will never be back. read more

I liked to go here because cheap drinks, casual dress code, people are friendly crazy funny, and it's right next to public parking. It's inside but outdoor party and things can get very wild and crazy lol every time I'm thirsty for Long Island iced tea I always go here first then bar hopping then come back here. Only $5 for admission $10 on weekend and you can re-entrance anytime. I like partying south Florida because most tourists go here for party too and bars are closed at 4am. read more

I went here for brunch 2 weeks ago and had a blast for my sisters birthday. The music , the vibe and the service was great the only down fall was the food. What was offered on line was not available. They ran out of the shrimp and grits, there was no lobster mac and cheese and no chicken wings. so for $50 I can say I didn't get my moneys worth on the food. I will definitely be back though but I may come a little earlier. read more

I have been coming to America's Backyard for atleast a decade, which really says something about this place. What bars in downtown Fort Lauderdale or any other city in the US have remained popular and in tact for a full decade? Managers like Odie are the reason why. We were here yesterday during the 90s pub crawl and the place was slammed before 9pm. Good music, never have to wait at the bar for more than 2 minutes before being served a drink, and a solid divey crowd, but without feeling the person's sweat on you, because the place is overly crowded. Nice breeze, decently clean bathrooms, no long wait for those. I mean, what more could you really ask for? Anyway, we were there to celebrate someone's birthday. We spoke to the manager and the very helpful staff, and they set up a roped off area for my friend's birthday completely free of charge. We were able to set up some balloons, decorations, and were given a high top table for cake and napkins. It was awesome. Odie and other members of his staff came numerous times to check up on us and make sure we had everything we needed. I will always choose America's Backyard as my main watering hole in Fort Lauderdale. Excellent service makes for excellent experiences. read more

Would give this place 0 stars if I could. My phone was stolen out of my zipped purse within minutes of me being there - I was COMPLETELY SOBER. It took them all of 5 minutes to turn off my phone's location so I couldn't track it. I always check my bag periodically during a night out to make sure all my stuff is there, and genuinely have no clue how they were able to get away with it. I left, and told the cops that were standing outside of the establishment. Their response? "Oh, don't worry about it. We got there early because the birthday party we were attending had open bar from 9 - 11 (sweet!!) but considering we got the LAST spot in the parking lot, it is terrible for anyone coming after 9:30 (and who parties early in SoFla) No one. Only us lushes going for the open bar. There IS a cover! We didn't pay (again - birthday party), but for those who do have to pay you already have dropped $10 for parking and not one drink yet. The setting is super cute, huge outdoor 'pool' for a bar, stands that sell ice cream, beer, hot dogs (i heard about the hot dog ones, never got close enough to see) big screens a DJ playing FUN music, oldies and new songs. Ahhh the open bar. In the two hours we were at the bar I got two drinks. TWO! Thats IT! Why? The place is ginormous and they only have 2 bartenders tending there! By the way the chick was a b***ch. The guy just overwhelmed but she went out of her way to really be a b**ch. The bathroom situation is RIDICULOUS! Only one bathroom available before 11PM in a place that can hold (I saw the sign) one THOUSAND people so the line was wretched. I was in tears, literally! It took 45 minutes to go to the bathroom. Then the crowds started coming in droves. Drunk idiotic guys and what seemed like college girls, spring break anyone?? We were pushed so hard against each other we couldn't move. Someone had the brilliant idea to go to the indoor bar. Who knew there was another HUGE bar inside? It was EMPTY! Plus they had a great band playing. This was our favorite bar on the YSB15 crawl hands down! Ladies drink free until midnight. Free shots, great music ... An all around great time. We're from Cali, where we legally can't drink on the streets, bring in drinks from other bars... and we have nothing... NOTHING, like America's Backyard. Frankly, I wish we'd started the crawl here. The music was hands down better than Capone's (by a mile) and I loved the concept of signing up for free drinks for most of the night. Another fun place in good old Fort Lauderdale. Good crowd, good drinks, good music. They play just about everything you can dance to, hip-hop, salsa, pop, and more. Drinks are big ... They have pitchers with these tall colorful straws - pretty - and some other big mugs, with handle - easy to carry while walking around the bar or dancing. Smart! Bartenders are quick, and always cool. Plus, the few times we've been there, we end up making new 'friends' - this is one of those laid back, everyone there to have a good time type of place. We got in for free because it was my friend's birthday party so still supporting the 5 stars. Until midnight or so, it is OK ... but as the night wears on, the crowd gets more stupid, probably has a lot to do with the cheap or free drinks and certainly a lot more dense. I mean you can't walk around the place, not even to get to the bathroom, or at least to the 20 minute line to get to the bathroom. What's up with that - thousands of people and only a few bathroom stalls?? and for the ladies, it is even worse, the line can be up to 1 hour wait, no kidding. The music is OK, but once again it just feels like you are in college in the middle of a spring break and the crowd is drunk and stupid. So far we are down to 1 star - it only climbs back to 2 stars because there is an indoors bar as well and people seem to either not know about it or they prefer the mass of stupidity outdoors - Anyhow, there is a pretty good live band inside playing some good ROCK music and best of all - there is no line to use the bathrooms. Apparently the upstairs/indoor area doesn't open until later, but our whole experience changed once it did, because we went to the bar upstairs and had a blast !!! couches, game of Twister on the floor and easy access to the bathrooms- life got good- 2 stars !!! If this is America's backyard, the Chinese have already won. For sure. I was in Florida for a Ravens-Dolphins game and stopped here for a Ravens pre-game party on the Saturday night before the game. They charged us $10 each at the door, but then wouldn't honor their free drink with a check-in on Yelp. This place gets pretty crazy. At least the outdoor area does. One dude was blowing fire extinguishers at the crowd; the DJs reams and reams of toilet paper. Like an amount you can only buy at Sam's Club or Costco. The bartenders use dildos as funnels. The only thing more gross than that were the women who actually drank from them. Overall, prices aren't bad, but the place is disgusting.
