I would give it zero stars if I could! I made an appointment online on Wednesday, May 4th for Friday, May 6th at 3:50 pm. At no point during the booking process did anything on the screen indicate that the appointment I was making was virtual. I received THREE confirmation emails and FIVE confirmation text messages and, again, there was no indication that my appointment was virtual. At 2:54 pm on Friday, May 6th (56 minutes before my scheduled appointment time), I received a phone call to let me know that my appointment was virtual and if I was unhappy with that, I could reschedule. A virtual appointment for a new contact lens prescription? How is that even possible?? It is unacceptable that I was not informed when choosing the appointment date and time that the appointment was virtual. It is further unacceptable that in the EIGHT communications I received I was not told that the appointment was virtual. I would suggest anyone looking to make an appointment with this company double check to make sure you are not scheduling a virtual appointment if you prefer in-person care. Do NOT assume they will tell you until the last possible minute, or not all. read more

I've been here a couple of times, and every single time, Kenley has been a total rockstar. But my most recent visit? ICONIC. So here I am, thinking I need a whole new pair of glasses (cue the drama). Turns out, I just needed my current glasses (from over a year ago, no less) adjusted because, surprise, I never came back to get them fitted properly. Classic me. This spot just opened up and it was my first time here. I seen a lot of there commercial and advertisements and wanted to see whether the hipe was true. Wifey and I made an appointment and got there a little early to fill out the paperwork that's when I found out they didn't take my unions eye glass insurance. But if the prices were good why not. After my pre eye exam that took quite a while because the lady giving me exam didn't know how to work the machines probably. But after that the eye doctor was very thorough and professional and so was the attendant that help me pick my frames. Came here influenced by the prices advertised on TV. I knew that I would be paying more than the advertised special because I wear bifocals (I paid $99 for 2 pairs of plastic lens glasses, including a free eye exam vs teh TV special of $69, which is for single lens glasses). A staff member helps you pick out the frames you like from a myriad of frames on the gallery wall, all under different price points (eg $69, $99, $129, etc). After filling out paperwork, you are then given a preliminary exam by an assistant, and then a full eye exam by an optometrist who, by the way, was more thorough than my regular ophthalmologist. Lastly, you are escorted back to the frame "gallery" to complete the paperwork, have the frames you chose fitted to your eyes/nose, etc. & then you pay. Be aware that there will be a soft sell pitch at this point for anti-glare lenses, progressives, glass lenses, coating, extended warranty etc. & also be fully sure of the price you expect to pay, since charges my be "accidentally" added to your statement that don't belong there, as happened with me (but were removed when I pointed out the discrepancy). The space is clean, no one is pushy, & although there is not a HUGE assortment of frames in each price range, you should be able to find one you like & the price cannot be beat! read more

Went for the 1st and the last time to Americas Best in Freeport NY for an exam for contacts and glasses as they were in my plan. Only after having my eyes examined and trial contacts in was I could not get my prescription for my contacts until I booked another appointment for the following week, the optician said I have to make sure they are good since my prescription changed. It was a .25 change! I have been wearing contacts since I was 16 and I'm now over 50 (so a long time) I said I'll sit with them for 1/2 hour she said no next week. I told her I have been to eye doctors and opticians before and always received my prescriptions right then and there. She said "we'll go to another Dr". I ended up leaving without my prescriptions and the trial contacts still in. I called their customer support and they informed me that since I was a new customer their policy on contacts is one week. If they had bothered to inform me of these prior to the exam I would have left Called my insurance co. and had 3 way convo with the manager who was insisting I pay. No way I'm paying for something I never received (prescriptions). The manager said that what corporate said was not true as it's up to the dr. Told her it was on a recorded line she is telling me corporate was wrong, very doubtful! Had to get the insurance agent involved to get them to agree I did not have to pay. However Americas best made me drive back to give them the trial pair. Like they were going to give them to another customer? I certainly hope not! There is an associate named Kinley who was very rude and disgusting when I purchased glasses for my 2 children on 10/7/21. He thought he was funny but he wasn't he told my daughter the glasses she picked out made her look like an old lady and that she had a big face. This hurt my daughter and me I didn't wanna make a scene in the store. She is beautiful she knows this bit this is unacceptable. He also told my kids they had big heads. I didn't bring my kids there to be insulted. After my glasses come in I would never do business here again. He kept telling the associate he was training that "this is not my job" as well. He was very unprofessional and seemed like he didn't care about anything I'm disgusted and so are my kids. He seemed like he had something against us and doesn't even know us. Almost 2 weeks later I finally got my glasses. I won't ever come here and do business with this company again. I feel bad for the staff that is actually good here. It's so unprofessional for a assistant manager who should be setting an example making small side comments like do better and show your frontline how it's done. I had a horrible experience with glasses that didn't fit my face I had to come back for the new ones that I'm still not satisfied with. I got run around from the store and customer service long story short we live in 2020 with the technology we have a customer should not have to wait as long as I did cause of a faulty product. It took me a minute as you can see to write this review, but I was taught if you can't say something nice don't say anything. What I will say is that I hope they've gotten better since I was there because it was a hot mess, no one knew what they were doing, no one had been properly trained and was working with people's eyes. Correction the optometrist was the only one. But the person that checks for glaucoma told me herself she was just hired and was a stay at home mom, but it's a puff of air how hard can it be right, well after 5 trys she got someone else who couldn't get it, I was so done! My husband had his exam, picked out his glasses, and they were not finished with me. I'm sure that they've gotten it together by now I hope, but I will never know. By the way the advertisement we see is for single vision glasses only, clear lenses, if you need the bells and whistles like me progressive lens, etc it goes up and they do not accept all insurance plans ie I have a union plan. read more

Let's start with a little background: I've had many years of going to various famous optician facilities in the search for what I thought would be one simple thing...A pair of comfortable glasses that would allow me to see properly. Much to my dismay, this has been an unsuccessful journey with relentless multiple pairs that always felt like they needed to be readjusted because they were extremely thick lenses that continually applied far too much pressure on the bridge of my nose. When I went back for these so called 'adjustments', I was told that there was nothing that could be done to make them more comfortable because of the script that my eyes required. They kept telling me that the lenses needed to be very thick, thus causing the weight & discomfort. Then I discovered America's Best & at last I was finally in the hands of a staff of true professionals who truly knew what they were doing! They actually listened to my issues & wanted to offer me the best product at the best price that could addressed each & every time one of my necessary concerns. The staff was not only friendly & caring, but they were extremely knowledgeable & accommodating. I was not just another $$ walking in, I was a person with individual desires & requirements. Not only that, but they were able to supply me with 2 pairs of lovely glasses for just a tad more than the cost of only 1 of those horribly thick, uncomfortable ones I walked in with! As I stated, the staff made me feel that I was in such good hands. I can't even begin to thank this locations staff enough!! Let me start this by saying i've only had to have glasses the past few years (frequent migraines and staring at screens all day) Went to Eye world optics i think it's called in Freeport last June-July the people there were rude and gave me the wrong glasses. Anyway came here to America's Best and i have to say almost everyone was sweet, kind and helpful. The exception being the front desk girl Tatianna, she was a little rude when we asked if we could sit down she looked at us as if to say "if you have to" we ignored her and moved on. They have pre testers that work with the doctor to basically get you started I had Pat and my mom had Joy both two of the sweetest women I have ever met explained everything and told us what to discuss with the dr in regards to the above issues with the other place. Dr. Kalu was another sweet woman it took her two minutes to figure out why my old glasses were better than my new ones (the ones from the above place) they didn't give me anti-glare glasses which could've easily helped me but she found it and said they will be extra but they're really going to help you. She was so kind and explained everything to me. Everything was cleaned and neat it was amazing. David checked me out and he must've been new because the manager Jeff helped him with everything. David was kind and funny and i appreciate all his help. Jeff was a little rude in front of me to David which i thought wasn't right, i'm sure he was training him I just think there's a way to talk to your employees in front of customers. I've gone to America's Best locations before but this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. I was mischarged for not only my eye exam but for a package that I did not consent to and the only way I found out about this was through a Florida location I usually go to. No one knew what they were doing and there was so much confusion with everything handled. My insurance was entered into the system wrong and management was no where to be found to help a struggling employee. I was very upset leaving and was unable to receive the prescription I traveled there for. I was examined by the doctor (Dr.Kalu) yesterday, only days after receiving an exam from my "specialist". I went here for the $99 club exam for contacts because it's such a great deal to get 3 years included exams and 10% off contacts/glasses. The doctor checked me for glasses script as well to be thorough, and my God, she was more thorough than my "specialist". She was kind enough to compare my script from him with hers and let me choose between them as to which was clearer (with no pressure or preference), & hers was absolutely clearer! I'm so glad I decided to go with hers to get glasses with as well as contacts. Also I'd like to mention that I originally had planned to go there, get a script and possibly go with Hubble for the contacts to save money. However, even with now needing more expensive torric lenses and preferring dailies, with the club discount these contacts will still be a better deal. As for the glasses, I was helped mainly by Joy. She was absolutely kind, patient and fabulous. No hassles or pressures here to choose more expensive options like you'll find in other stores and doctor's offices. Joy went through my options with me, looked up and compared prices, even helped me use a coupon I had found online to save a little more (code FSA-XJ17 for $30 off orders $299+ for anyone interested ;). No one at this store is going to look down on you for weighing your options because of price, they will help you find the best options that you can and will be happiest with! No glasses guilt like stores in the past, they are wonderful here. I did choose more expensive options because though price is a concern, I had waited 12 years for new glasses and contacts. If you wear a higher script like I do, you most likely are going to want the lens add ons to make them thinner, the anti-glare (for eye sensitivity, appearance etc.), & in one pair I finally tried transitions. There were absolutely people who walked out of there paying the lower advertised price for the basic lenses, but I did have to invest more for the add ons by my own choice for comfort. Still absolutely less than at the doctor's or other stores I compared it to, but more and an investment none the less. I am sure that you can call to get an idea of lens add on prices specific to you, or like I said they will be kind enough to go through all options with you and help you make the choice you're comfortable with. Just an fyi for those planning a trip with a high script like I have. Overall this experience was wonderful. My mother was with me and is changing over from getting glasses from her doctor to here. We are very thankful to Dr.Kalu, to Joy, to the entire staff, & to America's Best for making things more accessible and affordable. My only suggestions to America's Best corporate (to all glasses places in general actually) is to maybe implement a payment plan like they have for cell phones for those investing in themselves and their glasses. I hope to see lens add ons continue to become more affordable like they have done with frames. Also, I was able to find 1 pair of wayfairer style plastic frames with nosepads, I would love to see more plastic frames with nosepads begin to be available. All that being said, this was truly fantastic! I am finally happy with a glasses experience, thanks again everyone at the Freeport NY location! read more
