Stay away from this place! These are not medical professionals. They are salespeople. Are they even qualified to sell glasses? I've had my glasses for a year now (since Jan 2025) and if I could give it negative stars, I would. I left there with glasses that were too big for my face and no adjustments made to them. I paid a pretty penny for these fancy Gucci glasses with progressives, but no one at Cohen's adjusted the glasses nor steered me away from these glasses which now I realize were the wrong fit for me. I spent the whole year trying to figure out why I couldn't see - thinking something was wrong with my eyes. My new optometrist advised that because the glasses were too big, they were sliding off my face, and the progressives were not placed properly in my eyesight rendering the progressives useless. I'd have to make ridiculous head movements for the progressives to work and it's not practical. Save your time & money and go to a real optician. One that will work with the optometrist or ophthalmologist that takes your eye exam. Because I'm pretty certain I made my eyesight worse with these glasses. read more

UPDATE- Susan is claiming wrong information, I did not leave satisfied and I understood my insurance completely as I went to a different location and only paid $25 which is exactly what my co pay is. Also they did order the completely wrong contacts and I had to wait for the correct ones to come in. They tried to make me keep the contacts because they would have to waste me ordering the right ones. Although it was their mistakes. Look at everyone's comments they are almost all the same. Acknowledge your mistakes. I've never stepped foot back in this place. On January 27 I went in to get contacts. My insurance told me I only pay $25 this includes the exam and the contacts. I specially asked for copper biofinity as these are covered under the insurance and are monthly which I have used for years. They first try making me pay $50 which my insurance clearly stated is $25 with everything included. I told the lady I will not be paying for this and if she will like she can speak to my insurance. I go in today to pick up the contacts they ordered the completely wrong contacts after waiting 3 weeks and the lady still has the nerve to tell me I also have to pay $10 co pay. I really think coroporate should look at the reviews for the west Hempstead office. They continue to try scamming people. This is ridiculous. I will be reporting this location. If I could give this location negative stars I would... writing on behalf of my husband as the horrible experience with this Cohen's impacted both of us. My husband and I are both teachers and through the UFT are able to combine our optical benefits. No voucher needed, it's supposed to just be a seamless transaction because cohen's has supposedly agreed to the terms as an approved vendor. My husband confirmed his appointment earlier in the day via a phone call from Cohen's and the staff member must have activated his benefit prior to our arrival. With this error, when we got to the store it showed that his benefit could not be used as it reflected that he had used it already, which of course hadn't happened. The woman at the front told us we could use MY benefit towards glasses, but his wasn't applicable. Fine, we figured we'd call the insurance company when we left and sort it out so that his benefit could be reactivated. When he picked out frames she said we couldn't use one of the benefits which is a 10% discount off designer frames because they weren't "UFT approved" frames (not true). We paid for the glasses (no itemized receipt given, however we were told my benefit had been applied) and contacts (which we did receive an itemized receipt for). AGAIN, AT THE TIME OF PAYMENT ONLY ONE BENEFIT WAS ACTIVATED & USED. We paid, left, and called the insurance company the next day to sort out what we thought would be a simple issue. The insurance company said they'd reactivate my husband's benefits, reach out for an itemized receipt, and Cohen's would refund us what we were owed. Sounded easy enough. After 4 days the insurance company received the itemized receipt and like MAGIC the numbers they sent over reflected the amount we paid EVEN THOUGH AT THAT TIME ONE BENEFIT WASN'T EVEN ABLE TO BE APPLIED. However the receipt they sent claimed that we both received our benefits correctly. The frames that the woman claimed couldn't be discounted were magically discounted as well. Once Cohen's realized they had to send a receipt to our insurance company, they looked up the discounts we should've received in the first place and then MADE UP numbers to match the amount we paid. I know for a fact they did this because the itemized receipt we got for the contacts didn't show ANY benefit discount, but the receipt Cohen's sent to the insurance company shows magically that our discount was given. I've never actually seen fraud so up close and personal before. Our insurance company said this Cohens is now flagged in their system because I guarantee they've done this to others. This location is a disgrace for trying to take advantage of their customers and we will never go there again. read more

It's very inconvenient when you drive for 30 minutes just to come to the location and find out it's closed. I understand it's holiday season but there's no reason why it should say open till 6:00 pm (both online and on the door) when I arrived at 3:55 pm and the store is closed. There were no signs on the door either as to why they may have closed early. Whoever decides to come here make sure you call ahead so you don't waste your time driving like me. read more

I had a great experience with Dr. Choi and the rest of the staff here. I came in for a quick check up and did not wait long. The staff were all very friendly and Dr. Choi was very kind and welcoming. I ended up purchasing a new pair of glasses at a reasonable price with no hassle or difficulty as well as contact lenses. It was a very pleasant experience overall and I will be back for my next annual check up. I would absolutely recommend anyone with eye care needs to visit this location. read more

Dr. Susan Choi is exceptionally knowledgeable, charmingly honest and caring...and so helpful in making decisions (like #1 or 2, which is clearer?). A solid C-. We usually get our glasses at my husband's union hall but the optical department is closed and we were directed to use a GVS provider. Called GVS and printed out the benefits page so we would have a reference for pricing. I made an appointment and when we got to Cohen to register we spoke with the short tempered lady behind the counter and she explained what our benefit covered. She directed us to the limited supply of covered frames and told us what lenses would be covered and that better ones would be X amount more. When I questioned the lens price, since it was different from the page I printed out, she sternly told me her price is correct. Then I asked about the frame credit which was supposed to be $130 according to the price list but she said $100. When I got home I found the frames I chose on line for $45. Dr. Choi, who is lovely, examined our eyes and remarked that my prescription had changed dramatically. She had been distracted at the time of my examination with a personal matter requiring her to leave the room to attend to a phone call. After the exam I picked out frames from the limited covered selection. Dr. Choi had explained that the style of frames I had been using was not the best shape for progressive lenses and I should select something else which really limited my choices down to about 5 frames. My husband used his own frames after seeing the selection. Time to write up the order. The lady at the counter asked where on our face we would be wearing the glasses. She leaned over the counter, put a dot on one lens and that was the fitting. This was my 4th pair of progressive lenses and I asked why nothing was measured and she said the doctor already measured my eyes in the exam. This sounded strange since in the past I always sat down with an optician with the frames on and they measured my eyes in the frames and took a number of measurements. Maybe there was some new technology I wasn't aware of so I said nothing else. We paid extra for the upgraded progressive lenses and left. The glasses were ready and we picked them up. There was no fitting of the frames, just the cranky lady throwing them on the counter and dismissing us. We had to ask for cases. Zero customer service. My husband's glasses were good, mine were not. Initially I thought the problem was because the cheap frames were crooked and I was looking through the wrong area on the lens. I went back to have the frame straightened. That didn't help so I called and was told that since my script changed I would need to get used to them. I tried for 2 more days and was dizzy and disoriented. I never had much trouble adjusting to a new script. There was no place on the right lens that was in focus. I called again and arranged another exam even though the lady insinuated that I was not giving them a chance. This was my 4th pair of progressives so I am used how they work. I arrived for my new exam and Dr. Choi changed the prescription on the right lens. Still no measurements were taken. The lens was corrected and I picked up the glasses a few days later. I started wearing them and they were fine. Not perfect, not great, just fine. At least I could wear them. Driving with them on is an issue as the distance portion seems too high or too short and I have to scoot them down my nose a bit to avoid having to tilt my head far down. Since my prescription changed and I had no backup glasses, I got a copy of the new script and went to America's Best in Westbury to get additional glasses. They have a system where you can self try-on whatever frames you like which eliminates dealing with an irritated person behind the counter who makes up prices on the fly. Plus, they have 2 for pricing that is very reasonable and price tags on the frames. I ended up selecting 2 pairs of progressives with their better lenses and a pair of reading glasses all in brand name frames with spring hinges for under $500. And guess what? As I sat down with the optician after selecting my frames she had me try on each pair and MEASURED my eyes in the frames! When I picked up the glasses I once again sat down with the optician and all the frames were adjusted to fit my face and ears. All the new glasses are great and no adjustments are needed to drive. I suppose if you are limited by GVS insurance, cannot spend extra, need only single vision lenses, don't care if the frames fit correctly, and don't mind being treated like a bother, you may be fine at Cohen. But if you have insurance that covers a wider selection of providers and want to be treated as if your business matters, choose another place where they treat you like a welcomed customer instead of a big inconvenience. read more

I tried here at the recommendation of a friend and it was the best decision ever! The staff here are super friendly and helpful, and never made me feel pressured. They really know their stuff, and the people who helped me had great taste and suggested amazing frames for us. They really are honest and don't push higher cost frames on customers. I've worn glasses for as long as I remember, and this is the best experience I have ever had overall- from shopping to options and price break down to the actual exam. I've always had a hard time during the exams but everyone was very patient with me and I didn't even have any trouble. They sanitize all the equipment before letting us use it, which is just a small detail but shows how much they really care about customers. Besides the fact their prices are very good, they accept a great variety of insurances. They are so good about explaining all the options to you before you decide anything. Before they finalized my prescription, they made me walk around with test lenses to make sure I was ok with the rx. They really pushed me to walk around for a few minutes before they would finalize everything. I am most definitely still raving about this place to anyone who will listen, and will continue to come back here in the future. I came to this business because my union supplies me with free glasses but every year the glasses show an internal scratching that is hard to explain. I thought that a professional would see it and be able to explain it to me. The woman behind the counter handled herself as a know-it-all. She asked me where I got the glasses from. When I told her local 3, she told me I paid for them. I tried to tell her that I don't pay for anything... but she seemed to know it all. Really not the point. So I tried to tell her what I see when I look through them. She told me she didn't see anything and they looked perfectly fine. I said, thank you and ran out of there. I went down the road to Sterling Optical and the woman saw it right away. The technician told me that it happens when the reflective coating gets old. What a world of difference when you get professionals that know what they're talking about instead of thinking they know everything. read more

Recently bought eyeglasses here as I was in dire need of a replacement pair and chose Cohen's as I've purchased from Cohen's ( financial district & midtown nyc ) in the past & had no issues. I should've took note that this location had no prices on its frames. Prices were just spurt out and I was quoted $157 higher than what the frame actually retailed for. The saleswoman did knock off an extra $100 for me and once I addressed that I found the exact same frame & what it retailed for, she knocked the extra $57 off. Although she was very nice & personable, I did feel as though it was an upsell. Like I've said , I've purchased eyeglasses in the past & I actually have the same exact prescription as in my former glasses but paid approximately $240 higher here & to add, these frames I have now are by a much cheaper designer. I have had Prada, Burberry , D&G & Versace & never paid over $470 or in this case over $600 for those frames including the lenses (with Cohen's ). I went by the Cohen's near my old job ( nyc) I last used & was quoted $280 cheaper for a pricier designer frame w/ my script for lenses. I know I'm at fault for not being patient & looking elsewhere but I advise one to just use caution coming here. With that said , I doubt I will ever use this location in the future. I know I had a high script but $616 ( my discounted price) was still overkill in my opinion. read more

I really didn't expect much going into this place but I have to say, they are very professional and attentive to your needs. As soon as I stepped in, I was greeted by 2 people, even though they were preoccupied with their customers. As I was glancing around, a gentleman by the name of Andy or Andrew (sorry if i forgot) approached me and really blew me away. His knowledge of the eye wear ( I know it's stupid) and personality was beyond amazing and unexpected. Simply put a very straight forward and honest man. He was even able to "squeeze" me in to see the optometrist within 10 minutes. He's not even the best part. The female optometrist was as genuine and sincere as one can get. It may sound weird but her simple smile and calming approach made the experience the best. From beginning to end she answered all my questions, spent quality time to figure out my exact needs, and was very generous with sample products and care. As I was wrapping up my purchase ( I wasn't even planning on buying anything), Andy or Andrew threw in some extra accessories (sorry if I get you in trouble) and provided a nice discount. *Conclusion* Go to this place and you wont be disappointed. I know I wasn't! Definitely telling my friends and family about this place. *UPDATE* Brought my girlfriend there and it was all what I mentioned and then some.
