I had an eye infection, and they took me in that day. My right eye was very blurry. Two doctors…read morelooked at it and both confirmed what I had was scaring my pupil. They put me on meds, and they said if this doesn't work it will require surgery. It took over a month and my eye healed thankfully and no surgery was needed. They made an excellent diagnosis. The office staff were just good and very friendly. Thank you for an awesome experience.

As a long-time patient of Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania in Wyomissing, I recently found myself…read morehaving to quickly seek care elsewhere because of what I believe is a significant change in their patient triage process--one that could have serious consequences for someone experiencing an urgent eye condition. Over the years, I had received excellent care from this practice. Several years ago, I experienced flashes of light in my left eye. When I called, I was told it was an urgent situation and was instructed to come in first thing the following morning--even though it was a Sunday and the office was otherwise closed. I was promptly diagnosed with a retinal tear and successfully treated with laser surgery. I also had cataract surgery at Eye Consultants, which was another positive experience. At my most recent appointment in March 2026, I again mentioned flashes of light in my left eye. The doctor determined there was no immediate cause for concern but emphasized that if the flashes increased or changed in any way, I should consider it a serious matter and come in immediately to be evaluated. When I noticed that exact change, I called the office expecting to follow those instructions. Instead, the scheduler informed me that my request would first have to be reviewed by a nurse, who would determine whether I could be seen, and that someone would call me back. Unfortunately, my interactions with several phone representatives throughout this process were also lacking in the empathy and courtesy I had come to expect from a medical practice. Because I placed my first call late in the afternoon, I became increasingly concerned that I would not receive a timely response. I called back, explained the doctor's previous instructions, and stressed that my symptoms had changed. I was then told that I would need to see a different physician in the practice and that the earliest available appointment was 3:00 p.m. the following day. Apparently, what had once been treated as an urgent condition was no longer considered one. Hoping there had been some misunderstanding, I called one final time to see whether an earlier appointment was possible. I was told that if I believed my vision was in jeopardy, I should go to an Urgent Care center or the Emergency Room, have them evaluate me, and then have them refer me back to Eye Consultants for an earlier appointment. So if an earlier appointment was available, I don't understand why a patient should have to jump through hoops to get it. At that point, I canceled the 3:00 p.m. appointment and contacted another ophthalmology practice in Lancaster. They immediately agreed that my symptoms warranted prompt evaluation and scheduled me as an emergency patient for 8:00 a.m. the following morning. In the end, I'm grateful this happened because it led me to an outstanding practice with a compassionate physician and one of the most professional, caring staffs I have encountered in years. Having spent ten years working in the administrative side of a large hospital system, I understand that healthcare practices face staffing challenges and scheduling constraints. Even so, I was genuinely surprised by what felt like a dismissive approach to symptoms that can indicate a vision-threatening emergency. This is the first review I have ever written because I believe prospective patients should know about my experience. My hope is that no one experiencing symptoms such as new or worsening flashes of light, floaters, or other potentially serious vision changes delays seeking care because they are unable to obtain a prompt appointment.

My grandfather had gone there for many, many years, probably over 15 or 20 years. He had developed Alzheimers Disease and other secondary issues, that were all taken into account when the staff would call to set up appointments for him. Every single time we went for an appointment, they talked to HIM, they told him what they were going to be doing step-by-step, as any medical professional should do when dealing with ANY client with this disease. They never spoke over him, or spoke to me instead of him. They would greet him like they knew him, they would ask him questions, then slyly sneak a peek my way so I could give them the answers they needed. They always took the time to listen to the "answers" he would give whether it was how his health was or about all of the wild activities he told them stories about. They even would accommodate him and let us use their private entrance because it was a much easier walk for him to get out of the building. That is the only piece to work on, I will say that there is a big pine tree of some sort in the front of the building at the sidewalk that actually makes it difficult to get around, and there is no railing to get up that first step. I think the office may have even sent us a card upon his passing. Dr. Reiniger always took the time to go over his entire medical history, she would ask us about how things were going medically BEYOND just his eye health, and she very often shared advice and understanding. Many times the things we would talk about, she would follow up on at our next visit. They are 100% the best place I could ever recommend anyone go to that needs eye care. They have new technology, they have a rotation through a service that they "get" certain pieces of equipment for their office for a small period of time that is very advanced. I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart for the way they treated my grandfather while he came to them for eye care. Superb group of individuals.

Developed a blind spot in one eye - neither Eyeland optometrist nor ophthalmologist at Campanella & Pearah could ID the cause. Dr. Carim saw a hole in the retina and immediately injected a bubble to pin it back before laser affixation. Bubble was augmented once. Negatives: Impatience and questionable judgment in my estimation. After the proscribed days of waiting (and head positioning to optimize the bubble's effect), saw him again. Dr. Carim stated that the retina was not all the way back but decided to proceed with the laser procedure (maybe he expected it would get no better, but he didn't go for more days despite feeling that could help). What started as a quick laser attachment procedure turned into a long laser light show and torture session as he grew increasingly frustrated with the retina's remaining detached area. Another bubble. Days later, the blind spot was expanding into the center of my vision. The next step was the more "intense" step of cryogenic attachment. Apart from the glorious feeling of poking multiple instruments into my eyeball and freezing it, my situation ultimately became a full retinal detachment. In this timeframe Dr. Carim noted that my retina had at least three holes that allowed fluid to get behind it. This could have been the result of multiple laser burn-throughs from my military service, or maybe his premature laser attachment action. Blind in one eye now, I went to Dr. David Fisher in Philadelphia (3 locations for him), who laid out my options. A vitrectomy (removal of all fluid, pin the retina back) was performed. Vision in that eye is hazy, non-correctable to anywhere near what it was, and depth perception is off from other eye - the resultant of full retinal detachment.
