It sits right on the beach, and falling asleep to the sound of the waves is wonderful. Unfortunately, that was about the only thing I enjoyed this time. I decided to splurge on a suite, but I regretted it. For one of the more expensive rooms, it was in surprisingly poor condition: dinged furniture, rusty air vents, a gouged floor, ripped carpet, stained curtains, and sliding glass doors that were so cloudy I had to open them to enjoy the view. The bathroom appeared to have been recently updated, but I found long strands of hair in it. The service was disappointing, too. At check-in, I was told matter-of-factly, "We don't clean rooms during your stay!" I was there for the better part of a week. If I wanted cleaning, I had to request it a day ahead; otherwise, I could go to the front desk for supplies. Having worked in hotels, I understand that housekeeping costs money. Still, after booking a suite, I didn't expect to have to go downstairs for fresh towels or toilet paper. One afternoon, a nap was interrupted by loud talking outside my room. When it continued, I looked out and found a housekeeper talking on speakerphone. Checkout summed up the stay. The only thing I was asked was whether I wanted a copy of my receipt. There was no question about my stay and not even a thank-you. I'd enjoyed this hotel before, which made this visit especially disappointing.

The BNB is also very centrally located to nice beaches, hiking, and walking distance to great dining. Furnishing were older but charming and everything you need is provided. Only downside I experienced was the shower water running a little cold halfway through the second shower. We did not have the breakfast so I cannot comment on that. Overall, great place to stay!

Or simply roll your eyes and mock me for my being so trite? Well, I don't care if you react that way. Because you haven't been here, and so you couldn't actually know that this is exactly what the South Coast Inn feels like. It's familiar and fun, in a family-friendly, come make tea in the kitchen, sit down on the living room couch, watch the sunset on the front porch sort of way. Michael will greet you each morning in the kitchen, maybe his mother will tell you tales of life in Fresno, and Sheryl will have decorated the rooms to suit whatever holiday it happens to be. For us, it was Christmas, and the trees and displays were better than at home - bigger, more elaborate, and no fruitcake or spiked eggnog in sight (but maybe they were just hidden in the office). The staircase has that comforting wooden creak, the curtains are lacy and white, the beds are fluffy and warm, and the walls are hung with pictures that would not look out of place at your Aunt Lil's, if she lived on the coast of Southwestern Oregon, which I'll bet she does not. The food is fresh and flavorful, the neighborhood is quaint and quiet despite US-101 being so close, and the surrounding garden is filled with flowers and camelias and azaleas and lots more in-between. You can while away hours on the porch, read by the fire, meet new people at the table, or just sleep long and deep in a room filled with lighthouses. Try doing that at Aunt Lil's. Each day while we were away the room was freshened up. Coffee, instant ceral were provided in the room as well as cream for the coffee. Dishes and glassware were available to use. The room was well supplied with the things we needed. The steps and railings could use a bit of updating for safety and the stairs leading towards the beach area were in much need of repair, to the point that it was not a good idea to venture too far down that path as the lower steps dropped down further than the rest. The handrail at the very bottom was frail and really should not be allowed public access without being made much sturdier. When parking, it required you to back all the way out to the roadway. No viable place to turn around once you drove all the way in. Would we stay here again? Yes we would. I felt it was a good value for the price paid. You could literally hear and see the ocean right from the front room. It is a place that provides a lot of peace and quiet. Probably not the best for a young and noisy partying crowd. We had our own private room with an amazing view of rhe Pacific. Beach combing was fun a stray dog joined us and it was an amazing day. Bed was actually pretty decently comfortable, and the tv across from it is a great size. Many channels available, including Bravo lol. As others have noted, there is very friendly service. The guy who is at the front desk, and who also took my call for booking the place, is very friendly, nice, and helpful. I left check-in with so many pamphlets and suggestions from him! I especially like the pet policy. If you're traveling through the area or need to stay for a visit to the beautiful area, I highly recommend staying here, especially if you have dogs.

We never got the refund and they say there is nothing they can do. There were other issues we didn't being up because we were told our stay would be free. Those issues include a broken headboard, the solid wood top actually fell on my son with nails sticking out. We put it back and were just extra aware of it. We also were not provided a coffee maker and our room did not have air conditioning, just a small table fan. All in all I am so mad about this situation, I am usually very understanding, however the lack of cleanliness and dishonesty about the refund is absolutely unacceptable.

When we were there pool was down for maintenance and hot tub was closed indefinitely. Pool house was nice...it will be fun to use when it's operational again.
