Reviewed Feb. 22, 2026 I have been with Amerigas for 12 years with some issues in the beginning but otherwise no problems....until this year. Twice I had delivery issues the second being this past week. I am running on fumes right now. I went out and bought a couple electric heaters to get through the storm because after receiving emails and speaking to customer service several times, my delivery never came. Their customer service is disconnected and unsympathetic. They could've cared less about the fact that I was going to run out of propane and there was a potential blizzard coming. I will be contacting them tomorrow to cancel my service and tell them I'll let them know when they can pick up their tank. I don't know what's going on with this company, but it's not good. read more

THE WORST! NO stars if I could! AmeriGas canceled auto delivery without notifying us and when we contacted them to get a delivery they told us it would be 2-3 weeks before they can get out to us. They finally came out filled the tank and locked us out of it. This was April 4, 2025 they told us they couldn't get somebody out to unlock it until the end of May, so after dealing with their horrible customer service, we decided to call a different company who came removed AmeriGas tank and hooked up a new tank with the new company. I have been trying to get AmeriGas to pick up their disconnected full tank for a year and three months at this point. To find out that they put us in collections because I refuse to pay for propane that I can't use, because they locked the tank. My main concern is that I have a full propane tank under my deck just sitting there, I've been begging them to remove it with zero response. They just keep sending more bills. I went more in depth on Google reviews and they are trying to get my review removed from Google. Not to mention the class action lawsuit against them! read more

Amerigas says don't call for delivery unless your propane tanks read 30%. I wanted to get a delivery (my tanks were 30%) A check fuel line fee was added bc I hadn't ordered propane in two years? I hadn't needed to order propane for two yrs! Obviously, there are no leaks, propane has never been turned off or disconnected/ I only use it for my gas stove to cook. What a bogus charge! BTW the two year time frame is NOT listed as a reason to be charged this 140.00 dollar fee! The company (when they finally answered after being on hold for 45 mins, said it's policy. But the company policy also states, to call when it reaches 30% (not before?) Obviously, if I had waited even longer it would have been more that 3months past the two yr time limit. That is not listed on the website describing why you would have this charge on your invoice!! I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND this company. I would give ZERO stars if I could!! Run, do not walk away from Amerigas. SO many reasons to use any other company but! First of all, you can never speak with anyone in this country who has any authority to actually help you with a problem. We mentioned that when we were to have a propane delivery, we'd like the person to check all connections as there was a "slight" odor. We never said there was a gas leak. (I must add, that my husband made that request in an e-mail around 4:00 in the afternoon. So, apparently, this company was SO concerned about a "leak" that they waited to send someone out NINE HOURS later!!) Well, at 1:15 A.M. I received a phone call from a person calling from our driveway to say they were checking out "the leak." I said there was no leak and at that hour I wasn't letting ANYONE into my home. He said not necessary, called 5 minutes later to say there was nothing wrong and that the slight odor was probably due to the low amount of propane. Amerigas charged us $230 for the call!!!! When we protested (tried to), we got nowhere and the bill continued to mount until we decided to pay the $330 and get rid of a vile company that we had been loyal to for 25 years!! We simply figured they'd put a lien on the house, they are that dirty! Anyway, we went with another company, they called (along with our Fire Marshall) to pick up their tank and until I finally called and went ballastic on them and threatened legal action, they picked up their tank.......took 7 weeks having that thing in an inconvenient location on our property. When the man picked it up I yelled to my husband.....GET A RECEIPT.....as it wouldn't have surprised me to get a bill claiming we never returned it, and the man (who was, of course, rude as hell!) said we no longer give receipts. Had husband take pictures! All this after paying a rental for the damn tank, never not paying a bill.......they are despicable and should be out of business. We are now with another company, paying NO rental fee and very pleased as you can go to their office and ACTUALLY SPEAK TO A PERSON!! read more

Amerigas bought out our old propane company, F.K. Gailey from LaFargeville N.Y., several years ago. We had been with them for over 37 years. Our latest quote for propane per gallon was $3.57. Absolutely ridiculous. They are not even trying to be competitive. I can't even believe this company is still in business. I can only imagine the elderly or uninformed that are being taken advantage of. They must just supply to the rich and famous to afford this price gouging. I believe they should be investigated. We are done as customers and are paying $2.00 less per gallon. If you are currently using their services, I suggest you call to get a price quote... you will be as shocked as I was. read more

They just don't care. We have been with AmeriGas for over 20 years and they installed a tank to serve our range-top. They informed us that they could no longer provide automatic delivery because we didn't use as much propane as they wanted from us. They never installed a gauge on the propane tank and today we ran out of propane. We called and asked that they fill our tank and we were told it would be 7 to 10 days before they could get to us. My wife was very upset and called them back to see why a customer who has been with them for over 20 years could not get service quicker than 7 to 10 days. She was told we would have to pay $300 for expedited delivery. We are using another company that will be here tomorrow to put in a new tank (Filled). As I said, AmeriGas just doesn't care. read more

Terrible customer service. I was on the phone on and off for about 3 hours to ask a simple question regarding some billing. After 20 minutes going through the auto messages and try to talk to someone is was finally connectEd to a woman in the Philippines who I could to understand. second try was on their website to start a chat. Again some auto responses and finally it said connecting to an agent. 25 minutes and nothing. Went the phone route again and after another 20 minute, got put through to another person in the Philippines but after explaining it all to him, I was "accidentally " hung up on. Step 3 - cancel them. I guess at one time these guys cared about customer service, but their driver told me that once they became the "biggest" propane dealer customer service went out the window. read more

I never take the time to provide feedback for service but I'm absolutely compelled to do so as AmeriGas has the worst possible customer service possible. I'm actually a Global CS Director and I understand the complexity of business, but my experiences with AmeriGas are all terrible. The pricing is amazing but it took me at least 8 phone calls speaking to someone different each time just to obtain service. With each attempt, nobody called me back. Then I think I'm good, I call to re-order and I get a 10 day window. Nobody can tell me anything except it will be within 10 days. I have NEVER experienced such poor service. Every other oil and propane company responds and gives you dates. It's such a shame. read more

Very bad customer service. Months ago got a letter from the company. Changed us to "will-call" from automatic delivery. After a phone call we were told we would be put on automatic delivery. Nope. Cooking dinner last night and we were out. When we call this morning we're told that delivery will take 7 days. Can't even expedite it to 3 days for some reason. This after I say we're out and the rep wants to know what percentage we're at (isn't "out of gas" the same as 0% I asked him). Found another company who are LOCAL who will take care of us. read more

I wanted to give this company NO STARS.. Zero, Zilch, Nada. Why? On 9/11/20, they delivered 23.4 gallons or propane to top off the 124 gallon tank. From then 'til 10/26, the propane was solely used for hot water. On 10/26 I turned on the furnace because, well, it was cold. Nine days later the propane tank was empty and I had no heat or hot water. I had thought I smelled something funny sporadically throughout the week, but blamed it on my cat. And well, I am a girl and have the propane on auto delivery and to date had never had an issue. 11/4 I called #AmeriGas to report the empty tank and odors and in two hours, they sent someone out to investigate. The bulk delivery guy put 60 gallons of propane into the tank to restore pressure, confirmed the leak and then disconnected the furnace & water heater valves and disconnected the Propane tank from the house. He put in a service call for a technician to investigate and repair the leak. He suggested I call and verify that the service call was getting assigned. Since then I have spent at least six hours on hold with AmeriGas and countless phone calls to try to find out when someone would be out to deal with this situation. Crickets. On 11/5, they said the earliest appointment was late November. I live in Connecticut, and will needed heat and hot water prior to that. #AmeriGas left me hanging with no solutions. Me being me, and who I know, I was able to get a new propane service provider, #WilcoxEnergy so I now have heat and hot water. Phew! However, there is still the issue that to date, I have not heard one word from #AmeriGas, they charged me $175 to come out on 11/4, and for the propane and basically owe me back about $300 (because I was on a 12-month pre-pay plan.) Today, six days after this fiasco began, I completed my very detailed letter of complaint to #AmeriGas and have copied and mailed it out to eight members of the Amerigas Executive Leadership Team at their Pennsylvania home office, their General Counsel and Customer Service Departments, and the Colchester CT office. Horrible customer service, they don't monitor their email communications, Facebook, Twitter, have no customer advocate and don't care about their customers unless things are going smoothly. I wouldve given an negative star if pssible. DO NOT go with this company. We have been customers for over 5 years and recently they must've sold to another company bc it is impossible to get ahold of anyone in customer service. I don't have time in my day to sit on the phone for 2 hours to wait for an agent. I went with another company and need my tank removed since October 2020. POOR customer service. Rating should be a negative...Not good is too good. DIO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! Check BBB reporting on this company. Over 6,500 complaints have been filled over the last few years and they have an F rating. In Fall of 2020 We switched service from Amerigas to another company. While we had service with them they were terrible with deliveries/customer service (sometimes taking weeks to deliver for a low on fuel call to the point where we ran out a couple of times) and pricing was terrible so we switched. When the new company installed their tanks and after the building officials inspection, our new propane company called Amerigas to tell them to come get their tanks. The building inspector told us they had two weeks to pick them up and if they didn't come we had the right to dispose of the tanks. Of course they did not pick them up in the allowed timeframe. It took months and multiple calls and finally one day when we came home they were gone. February 2022....A couple of months ago and over a year after the tanks were picked up we get a bill in the mail that says we owe a tank rental fee plus late fees (almost $200) and it is due immediately. I called Amerigas right away when this bill came in. The customer service agent (who said he was located in Ohio..we are in CT) just kept saying that the account needed to be closed to pick up the tanks...and that they needed to pick up the tanks to close the account. And that the bill needed to be paid before they picked up the tanks. I asked him to confirm with the local office that the tanks were picked up. He told me the CT offices are no longer open because of COVID. So, I kept telling him we don't have the tanks and to close the account. "We aren't paying the balance." And he kept saying the same thing again and again about picking up the tanks...paying the billl...closing the account. I honestly felt that I was in an Abbot and Costello movie. IT WAS THE MOST RIDICUOUSLY CONVERSATION I HAVE EVER HAD. We went round and round on this for about 20 mins before he finally put me on hold to transfer me to the billing department. After being on hold for 10 or 15 minutes he came back on the phone and said...okay...the account is closed. The billing department would be calling us but the account was definitely closed. Ok...so I figured finally we were getting somewhere. I asked him why the billing department needed to call...but I figured no biggie. Oh course...no one ever called. It has been over a month since calling. And guess what comes in the mail today???...another bill today with ANOTHER late fee. So now I have to go through the same phone call all over again. I would CAUTION anyone local or otherwise to stay far away from this company. THEY WILL DRIVE YOU INSANE with their complete stupidity and terrible customer service. read more

I am so very disappointed in this company. I purchased a house with an AmeriGas propane tank five years ago and have been a customer since then. When everything was handled out of the local office, customer service was considerably better. A couple of years ago everything transitioned to a national customer service. Since the transition to national customer service, I have run out of propane twice and I am on automatic delivery. I just got off the phone now with customer service because a week ago I ordered propane because I was low. The customer service representative told me that they need a two week lead time before they can deliver propane. Two weeks? I repeated it to the representative because I wanted to make sure that I understood, and after several confirmations yes it is actually two weeks that you need to allow before you can get a delivery of propane. I pre-buy my propane ahead of time, and I cannot wait for this contract to end. I will absolutely be switching to an in town supplier. I will pay a few dollars more, but the peace of mind that comes with somebody local to deal with and knowing I can get propane the same or next day it is ordered is worth more than the savings. I would like to note that the drivers that deliver propane and deal with re-lighting all of the pilot lights when you run out are exceptional. As well, the trucks look like they just rolled off the production line. They are exceptionally safe drivers and mechanics and the vehicles are in top shape. I wish I had read the consistently terrible reviews before I hired them. The tank was on the house when we bought it so I called them to fill it. They didn't show up when they said they would and never filled the tank so I called and canceled the contract because they didn't live up to their end. I went with another company. Amerigas charged me to pick up their tank! I am not going to pay their fraudulent bill. I hope they take me to court! They are criminals and fraudsters. Stay far away from them! read more

I agree with the other reviewers who have given 1 star. I too would give 0 stars if possible. I ran out of gas (my fault as I am on a "will call" contract but understandable given that the last delivery was over two years ago, and inconvenient nonetheless) and was told that unless I paid $300, it would take 10 days or so to deliver. I paid the $300 extortion fee for a 24 hour delivery but no gas arrived. No phone call, no e-mail...nothing. Just me without gas to power my stove top with guests arriving. I would say their customer service was bad if they had any, but they don't. I will be switching asap and would suggest avoiding this company. read more

Talk about lousy service. Amerigas somehow ignored my request for a tank refill. So I ran out of gas and that caused a tiny explosion under my cook top. That cost me $300 to repair. But even worse when I finally got the tank filled, they didn't bother to unlock it. So they charged me another $150 for a sevice call. I'm switching as soon as I can. read more

We are very worried about the financial viability of Amerigas. They seem to be " running on fumes". They forced me to prepay , then underdelivered after numerous pleas for gas, nearly running me out. As a result I pot a partially filled tank, paid top dollar for the gas and have a $53 " credit" which I doubt I will ever be able to use if Amerigas goes under ? I just cancelled my account as my home heating propane tanks are just about empty (below 5%) and I have been asking, then pleading, for delivery for a month. I was promised an emergency delivery this week that never came. So I contracted with local vendor who are coming today with new tanks and gas. AmeriGas took over a local family business who were providing good service - got an emergency delivery within hours late one night when gas ran out back in March - and they have ruined the business. Amerigas has terrible customer service. I spent 5 hours on hold this week trying to correct their mishandling of my elderly mother's propane account. After nearly a month of waiting, her propane delivery never came. Her home relies on Amerigas propane. We both spent all week on the phone to ensure timely delivery to keep her pipes from freezing. We were ensured on 3 occasions we'd receive call backs to confirm snd an emergency delivery due to their incompetence. No call- NO SHOW! We had to call another local company to do an emergency tank swap and delivery- and guess what? Amerigas still hasn't called or delivered after numerous calls for emergency service. I would not recommend Amerigas to anyone you care about. Amerigas doesn't care about you, don't support their incompetence and lack of business sense. Completely disappointed snd disgusted. I have no idea how they are one of the largest propane providers in the US with their complete lack communication, follow through and customer service. read more

Scheduled automatic delivery. Never came the first time to call three time for first delivery. Then the dropped me from automatic delivery. When realized I had not seen them in awhile I checked and was down to 15% I called they said they would send a delivery ASAP. Did not show up. I called back a few days later when I was down to 5%. First off let me say I have been a customer for 15 years and delivery has never been a problem. Customer Service is a different story. Now we have to schedule a delivery and my husband noticed the line was kinked. We assume from falling ice. I scheduled the delivery and then spoke to service about having the line looked at. They came out that day! But the girl told the techinician I had a gas leak!!! We do not have a gas leak!! He said he couldn't fix the line now and he'd have to shut off my gas. I asked him to check to see if it was leaking. His gas guage did not work!! He shut my gas off and left. I rescheduled with Amanda. The day of the repair I call them to confirm. Amy said Amanda did not put the order in because she was waiting for a call back on a voicemail she had left. NO voicemail! NO record in call list! Still waiting!!! Never Use this Company. read more

Absolutely horrible service. Placed an order for delivery on Nov 11. Never showed. Was told would be delivered Nov 29. Never happened. Then the 30th. Nope. Called and was told it would be prioritized and delivered on Dec 3. Never came. Then was told they would definitely deliver Dec 4. Never showed. Then was told that the issue was escalated and would be delivered Dec 7. Guess what? Never delivered. Now under 10% and have to find another company to deliver because the company that I actually have an account with can't seem to deliver. Yelp doesn't let you give 0 stars, otherwise I would. Absolutely horrible. Absolutely embarrassing. No one called me back when they said they would; tech did not show up on the date scheduled two weeks in advance; tenant wasted a day and a half waiting for the tech; called 8 times, talked to 8 different customer service people and no one helped; spent hours on the phone; given consistently incorrect information; can't speak to local office anymore, have to go to the national office which does not care, is not informed and does not give you accurate information. Worst company I ever worked with. Lost $800 as a result of lack of responsiveness and support. Absolutely would tell anyone I know to avoid Amerigas and use anyone else. And it would cost me $430 to leave Amerigas. They give you TERRIBLE service and then secretly lock you into a 'non-contract' by making the fees exorbitant to leave. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Worst customer service ever. They have one women who always answers the phone and one guy who comes out to your house and they must be in kahoots because no matter what either does or doesn't do, they defend one another over the customer. Instead of the customer is always right, the women says her driver never lies. I set up 3 appointments and the driver never showed up then she assumed I must not have been there but I was and I was waiting. Completely unreliable, they disconnected my propane tank without my consent because they were doing something at my neighbor's house and I didn't have a working stove for nearly a year.and there were no apologies about it, no refund, the woman on the phone had a major attitude and continued to defend her driver despite him never even coming to my door to check the stove. This company's loyalty is to itself only so be warned if there's ever a problem and you don't live in a home that's right in sight, they may not show up and they will blame you. I will never recommend them to anyone. read more
