Every time I'm in here I either find something new or something I couldn't find anywhere else and that says A LOT! The place is always clean and there is always an associate willing to help out or offer a recommendation. They don't carry everything that Premier carry's, But they carry a plethora of liquor/spirits that you may not even notice that fact. I find the prices are very reasonable. I like that everything is so easy to find. read more

Amherst St. Wine & Liquor - Just a little wine - Beer, Wine & Spirits Near Me - Buffalo, New York

The new Wegmans Wine and Liquors has opened in the past few days. I stopped in today to see how it was. It's large, clean, new. Large selections of wines and liquors both. Walking in you find yourself surrounded by wines. From all parts of the world and all types of grapes. While I did not find any I was interested in, they do have lots of choices. The liquors are in the back area and also have many different brands and sizes. The prices were fine. Not super low, so they won't be undercutting the local mom and pops yet. There is a rarer wine area which I did not go into. Presumably that's similar to Premiers section which has expensive wines under lock and key. They will be doing wine tastings and the like. Parking is ok. Not terrific. * This is 3 stars because it's fine. But I won't frequent it often as I prefer the local mom and pop shops which employ locals and have great prices. I can't give it 1 or 2 stars in good conscience, as it's fine, but it's an ugly box of a building which used to be a beautiful landscaped area and it does not contribute to the overall beauty of the area. At first I was confused about whether Amherst St. Wine and Liquor was associated with Wegman's. I mean given it's proximity and suspiciously similar sign lettering, it seemed likely. But then I was told that it wasn't. But you can use your Wegman's card... so I'm going with it is and that's my final answer Bob. It's a good size store with your standard options. They do sampling occasionally as you're walking around the store. The staff is always helpful whether you're looking for something specific or just a general recommendation. Most recently, I was looking for a very specific bottle of wine from France that I was having a hard time finding. Honestly, I had no idea where to start. Amherst St. Wine and Liquor was extremely patient and helpful, looking at photos of the label (it was a bottle we'd gotten in 2005!) and helping me find something comparable. The wine I was looking for was a bottle that my other half had brought back from France and had been saving - so he decided that we should open it on our 1 year anniversary. This year, celebrating our 10 year anniversary, it was really special to be able to bring that story full circle. Amherst St. Wine and Liquor does FREE wine tasting nights. You get to taste 5 wines and different foods that pair with the wines. It's quite fun and the wines they select are very affordable so if you like one, you don't have to feel bad about bringing one or two (or five) home with you. Great location. Easy parking. Since Covid, this wine/liquor store has raised in the ranks as one of my favorite stores! It's very clean and very organized, but more importantly, they have a wide variety of selections and I LOVE THEIR PRICES! Their employees are super helpful and very nice as well. One of my favorite wine is Cupcake Prosecco and this place has the cheapest I've seen thus far. Plus, you can bring the total price down further if you mail in the mail-in rebate! What's the downside? They are located near wegmans on Amherst street. If you know anything about this, it's a nightmare navigating in/out if this parking lot. Aside from other people's driving nearby, I definitely recommend you giving this place a shot (pun intended). read more

You have no idea how much pure joy having a liquor store right next to Wegmans brings me. I makes for a one stop shopping trip and the store really takes to heart that it is associated with Wegmans. I know that it just recently opened but it was clean, so clean, and had so many options. They also had very reasonably priced items as well as some cheaper items. I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but when I'm going to the grocery store and happen to need wine or booze I will surely stop in and pick it up here, I would recommend that you do the same, or at least check it out. read more

I am so sad to leave this review because I LOVE this place but... I am making my Chicken Marsala for the boyfriend for dinner tonight. So i went to the Wegmans on Amherst St, the Wegmans/liquor store combo that i ALWAYS go to, and got some ingredients that i needed. I also needed dry Marsala wine, which your establishment (Amherst wine and Liquor, not Wegmans) sells a very nice one that I love and have bought a million times from there. Today I arrived to Amherst St Wine&Liquor at 8:57pm. I just needed the Florio dry Marsala wine, so I knew I would be in and out before the time that they close, which I know is 9pm. So I pull in to the spot closest to the door and I am greeted with a security guard waving his arms in the air at me. (almost like a ref does for no goal in a hockey game) I immediately went up to the door, which was locked BEFORE the time that your establishment closes, and contested that I only need ONE thing and I would not take even a minute because I'm a regular and I know the store very well. But the security guard threw up his hands like he couldn't do anything about it. So then a young woman, who I would presume to be the MOD or some kind of supervisor tonight, came to the door and proudly announced to me "Sorry, no, it's 8:59." So again I contest and I tell her that I had already been standing outside a few minutes and that I would have been gone already if the doors were only left open until the time that the establishment is in fact open until. Finally she agrees to let me in. I thought she realized she was wrong. I sped walked straight to the Marsala wine and then ever so quickly grabbed an Apothic Red that was on a display on my path to the register. At the registers, a very nice young gentleman, who was happy to be there and to do his job, cashed me out. Meanwhile, two younger woman (one of which was the one that already talked to me at the door a minute prior) audibly talked from a few cash registers away about how rude I was. Regardless of the experience, on my way out I still announced, "Thanks again!" to the girls and security guard, but the two young women had absolutely no reply. No "Oh, you're welcome" or "Have a good night"... just snickered so loud to be sure that I could hear. I don't feel i was rude. I feel I was mistreated. And I hope something will be done because I love this place. read more

I am reviewing this as an occasional wine drinker. Also, being a former SoCal resident I am used to buying wine everywhere. However, I am a big fan of Wegman's and wish they had one over there in the West Coast. (Doubt that will happen but one can dream) I am that person that enjoys a glass with a meal or just a few friends every few months or so. Or it's something I bring when going to a party. I am not much of a beer person. I am happy this is literally a 4 min drive from my place. Even though I don't enjoy that wine is sold separate from grocery store (again former Cali person here) they get a quadruple KUDOS for the location. A reviewer did mention parking and the aesthetic. I am not basing my review heavily on any of that. But be warned: parking (over time) will probably get annoying. That area was already high traffic before it was built. In terms of the aesthetics, well, it was meh! before the store opened so I just see Wegmans utilizing space in a productive way. Also, they did create a few more jobs. In the last year or so Wegman's also did a great job updating their eating area and Coffee shop so I can see why traffic will continue to potentially be a burden to some. For my first go at the place I was rather pleased. It was the end of the week so I just want something light with my dinner. I picked up a cheap Cabernet Sauvignon. One I had tasted before with my Uncle who lives in Canada so I knew it would be good. I was amazed at the price. I can't remember the last time I paid under $4.00 for Cab. Sauv. $3.80 to be exact including tax. (No special bonus card needed.) Retail is usually $8-$10 and I am guessing way more in Canada. :) My post reaction to the purchase as I was leaving the store "Wow. What a cheap price for some good wine. Good thing I have self-control or I'd be in a lot of trouble." Mind you this is not set up like Premiere. They set up the store logistically like a wholesaler/grocery retailer; more like BJ's (or Costco for all you visitors). So keep that in mind when you go here. They do also offer club discounts which I believe you have to sign up for. Not sure how that works, yet. However, I am thinking if you're getting married or having a really big shindig and want to save a few bucks to provide the alcohol, this would be your go to place. Plenty of wine to choose from. Oh oh oh almost forgot to mention, they also have big signs that say they are big promoters of WNY wine makers. Another kudos for that. I love this place for its huge selection of wines and assorted liquors! Such great, friendly service although i will admit that some of the workers know nothing about wine. Regardless since they are associated with Wegmans and are more corporate, I am not expecting their employees to be that knowledgeable compared to a private family owned wine and liquor store. The actual market is clean and kind of feels very warehouse like however with better lighting. Its relatively easy to search for what you're looking for and its very reasonable in regards to price point. If you pick up a bottle that has a rebate, make sure to check out the front right hand side wall (right next to the exit) all of their rebates are conveniently located here. Wine not? :) read more

Best store for deals. Prices are always great. I wish they would expand their other wine selections and scale back on the NY state wine.

I have a few issues with this store: I'm not that excited that it took out more green space and the openness of the Wegmans on Amherst. I'm also a little weirded out by the warehouse quality of the store - it really is just a big box. I am not from WNY, so I don't have automatic allegiance to Wegmans, but I don't think they are a terrible company either - it just sits weirdly for me. That said, just because I feel like I need to air them, the store itself is pretty good for its function. There's a 6$ wine section, which is quite fun, and prices - in general - look to be comparable to most other places in the area. They have size on their side, which means they have a huge variety (this could be hard for people who don't know anything about wine, like myself), but I was really excited by how much NY state wine they had. They even had Billy Hill as a boxed wine (or 'large format' as it's called on the signage, ha ha). I'm also going to be coming here because, out of many of the liquor stores I've visited, this store carries Metaxa, a Greek brandy I love. Only one other store used to carry it and so I've been without for awhile. If you have been looking for a liquor or wine for a while, try checking here - you may be lucky and have your day made. Also, boxed wine is quite cheaper here than other places, if that's your thing (remember how I said I don't know wine?). This store will do fine - it makes for one-stop shopping, carries a huge variety, and you'll find something for cheap. But, because the prices on some of my staples were essentially the same as some other stores, I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way if I didn't want to. You'll find similar deals at Premiere or hole in the wall most likely. It does add an option to Amherst St, where I don't know the liquor stores that well - so perhaps this is a much needed resource for the area. So, New York gives me the second iteration of Learning How to Buy The Alcohols. I grew up in California. In California, you can buy vodka at the grocery store. Then, I moved to Virginia. In VA, you can buy anything up through wine at a place like Wegmans, but to buy the hard stuff, you have to go to a state-run liquor store. Now, New York. Beer only in the grocery stores, Wine and above from ... not-state-run liquor stores. So anyway, that's where this place comes in. Wegmans has gotten into the liquor business, and this place was still being built when I moved to Buffalo. We needed a bottle of wine for making spaghetti sauce, so we decided to give it a try. It's got a pretty good selection overall, with New York State and California being highly featured in the wine section. I was a little tiny bit disappointed that there didn't seem to be any other US states, but the place is not ginormous, so it's understandable. Hard liquor wise, they're well represented, having pretty much all the expected brands, with some nice discoveries. I was impressed to actually find a bottle of Calvados on the shelf, which I almost bought, but we settled for some low-rent Applejack instead. They also have a locked high-end wine section, and a number of more valuable booze selections locked up near the front. All in all, it's a nice place to go when you need some booze, and happen to be next to Wegmans. read more

Just stopped into this store yesterday for the first time and was pleased with the experience overall. The store is big, clean, and pretty easy to navigate. Staff were friendly and I was approached by someone less than a minute into my visit. The prices seem comparable to other places. I don't think they were noticeably cheaper, though. Their connection to Wegmans is convenient as you can use your Shopper's Club card there, too. It only saved me about $1.50, but can't really complain about saving any amount of money! I liked that they also provided a reusable bag with compartments for six wine bottles. I only have two cons about this place. The first is parking. I went early in the morning which was fine, but I've noticed the lot looking very congested on other days when I just stopped by for groceries. On a busy day, you're probably better off parking at the far end of the grocery store than to try to get one of those limited spots. The other con is that their local selection is limited. As of yesterday, I was informed that the only Niagara county wines they stock are from Niagara Landing Wine Cellars and Arrowhead. I had been hoping to pick up a bottle from A Gust of Sun, so that was really my only disappointment. Wegmans remains my all-time favorite grocery chain and I think this store is a solid addition to their business. The pros far outweigh the cons, so I will definitely be back with my handy reusable bag in tow. read more

The prices are great, the selection is (far) more than adequate for most purposes, and the store is clean and well organized--plus staffed with people who seem well equipped to make recommendations or help with decisions. This place is so unbelievably needed it's not even funny. I always struggle finding decent wine for a reasonable price in this area and driving the 25 plus minutes to Premier is not always feasible. Their selection is not that impressive BUT they have what you need and the prices are not inflated like every other liquor store around. Craving a bottle of dry red, they'll have two decent ones. Need a fancy bottle for your boss, they have a selection in the back to fit your needs. Like most liquor stores, the wines are separated by region, prices are either on par with other stores or cheaper. Wish they had a larger selection of Cabs, I was underwhelmed with my choices, but again, what they had was sufficient. If your mindset is to stroll in and experiment with wines you have never seen before then this isn't your place. They have common names you see everywhere. I really like the bags they give you! They are re-usable and have individual slots to carry the bottles, much better than plastic bags. They didn't ask me if I had a Wegmans shopper card when I was making my purchases and I didn't offer it, not sure if I would have saved money or not but next time I come in I'll be sure to ask. read more

I stopped at Amherst St. Wine & Liquor to grab a couple of bottles of wine for a dinner party. As you walk in you'll quickly realize you're in the Wegmans of booze. They have those great little short shopping carts and the store was done up for the holidays in that expert Wegmans fashion. There's a convenient cooler section by the door if you want to just grab something and head to the checkout. I was greeted by a woman who was straightening wines near the door. I asked her for her suggestion of a Chardonnay and a Pinot Noir. We took a short walk down the aisle as she pointed out an item on sale/special, a good choice, and her recommendation for my food pairing (turkey). They were all adequate suggestions and in the price range I'd asked for. She was professional while also being friendly which was pleasant. The cashier was also cool and bagged my wine in to a reusable "wine six pack" shopping bag which I thought was a nice touch. I'll definitely be back as it's convenient if you're already at Wegmans. The prices seemed good as did the selection. I didn't see much not to like. There is limited parking dedicated to the store, but it's IN the grocery store parking lot. Check it out. read more

Did someone say "Cheap Wine"? After living in 2 other states with crazy liquor laws - I'm so thankful to be able to buy liquor on Sundays. Don't get me wrong - Premier is my store of choice however, I have been having a hard time finding specific types of wine and it seems that this Wegman's location has it all! The pricing is reasonable and I can find good bottles for under $10.00 the staff is always helpful and the store is clean. Note that they don't have the "gift packs" here, just bottles of booze - nothing fancy. The parking lot is connected to the Wegmans store so there is plently of space but getting out of the store is often hard due to the traffic on Amherst St. Just think happy thoughts of all the $$$ you saved while shopping here while waiting to get out! read more

Great store - very friendly and helpful employees. Prices are definitely better that some of the area liquor stores. Disappointed to find so many California wines and so few of our Western NY wineries represented. Maybe that will change. Given the home base for Wegman's I was wondering why there were not more Finger Lake wineries also.
