After an 80 mile bike ride around Chico, my friends and I picked Amigos de Acapulco for dinner. While waiting for our friends to join us the restaurant, they were kind enough to let us store our bikes inside and start a tab. My husband and I ordered a torta and a burrito. My torta had soft bread, lots of avocado, and was delicious. My husband greatly enjoyed his burrito. One downside- the guacamole is not guacamole but avocado sauce. It wasn't bad, just not guacamole. Service was super friendly and helpful. The person taking our order chatted us up about our bike ride and brought out everything we needed. read more

Restaurants have an intrinsic commitment to the safety of their customers. Amigos de Acapulco failed. My girlfriend is sensitive to wheat but, when asked directly whether the fish tacos were gluten-free we were told yes.. We drove our food home, opened it, only to find the fish coated in breading. "Maybe its rice flour," I speculated with severe ignorance. So I called. "Yes, there is no wheat in your fish tacos," I was told. So I hung up. We examined the fish again and it was definitely coated in *something* Call back: "Hi, it's me again. Sorry to bother you, but are you absolutely sure about this?" "Yes. But I will ask the cook for you." A moment later: "Yes, the fish is fried in flour." Drove all the way back to pick up the replacement meal that was courteously prepared for us. This salvaged a one-star rating into two. Will not go back to this place, where at least one employee is uncaring / lazy. Amigos de Acapulco no son los nuestros. read more

Amigos De Acapulco is probably more of a 3.5 because the burritos here were not the best burritos I have had, but they were so large and cheap that I'm a fan for sure. The burritos came with a knife and fork because that was the only way to get these monstrous burritos into your belly. I had half a al pastor wet burrito and half a the shrimp fajita burrito, both of which were moist and flavorful. There are a lot of options on the menu (they offer pork, beef, chicken, shrimp, fried fish in a variety of forms) so I'd imagine there is something for everyone here. Chips and salsa cost extra, but the burritos were so filling that you could definitely do without. The place is clean, there's enough seating for large groups and the service is polite and efficient. read more

When you find the best chile relleno burrito and horchata combination of your LIFE, you just can't sit back in silence. You Yelp it. I have been eating at Amigos De Acapulco for about a year now. Their prices are fantastic, but better yet, the customer service and consistently great food is why I have never found a better Mexican food joint. The chile relleno burrito with no cilantro, no onions, add lettuce, please--and make that a wet one-- is the greatest gift you could ever get for your gut. Wash that down with a large horchata and you will be reeling with satisfaction. The green chile sauce that they pour over their wet burritos is magnificent: the perfect level of spicy tingle on your tongue and make your nose run! Their chile relleno is always stuffed with the right amount of cheese and fried to perfection. And their horchata! Hallelujah! Not too sweet, not too watered down with a sprinkle of cinnamon dust. It's downright magic. Imagine this: I am a 5' 3", 115 pound little lady, and they bring out a burrito the size of a child. They don't judge me by my tiny exterior by bringing out a kitten-sized burrito. NO! I get a baby, a human baby sized burrito. So I prove them right by eating all of it, down to the last sloppy bite. How do I feel after I eat all that? Have you ever felt a pain so great that it feels almost good? Don't worry, folks, I go home and sleep it off with half a day's nap. One of my favorite taquerías in Chico. Large portions, modestly priced, fast service and fresh ingredients. The staff is super friendly as well as patient and tolerant of changes to menu items. If you're a fan of wet burritos, this is an amazing place to go. Vegetarians take note, however, the verde sauce has chicken in it so if you're getting a vegetarian burrito wet, or just don't like chicken, go with the roja. They also have amazing horchata, best I've had outside of Mexico. Overall, this place gets my business more than any other taqueria in Chico. Even when I'm gone for long stretches of time (which is often now, due to business) they still remember me and my order. Definitely something I'd recommend to anyone and everyone. read more

We found this place very mediocre. Chips and salsa were both uninspired. Sauce clearly based on canned tomatoes and under flavored. Plus you have to pay for them. Sope was average and short on meat, long on lettuce. Very little sauce. Husband's taco salad was better--largely because of excellent carnitas. Problem is he asked for chicken. Best Mexican food in Chico. I grew up in a town in socal known for it's Mexican food, and Amigos is the only place I really love in Chico. Everything I've had is great. The service is wonderful, the people who work there are lovely. I like their burritos and if I want an extra treat I'll order it wet with half red sauce and half green. Their street tacos are tasty and their fish tacos are my favorite. The only things I can't speak for are their nachos and quesadillas, I haven't tried them yet. Highly recommended. read more
