Let's be honest here. I could have given this typically mediocre mexican restaurant two stars instead of my one. But I visited this place because it had a four-star review and really fell short of it. The food is a lack luster mix of tex-mex that lacks character, flavor and good taste. The service was generally unfriendly. The atmosphere is what you would expect a crappy tex mex restaurant to be. I left with no desire to return, no reason to. If this place got a four star rating 1) either they got all their friends and family to write glowing reviews or 2) Springfieldians think Mexican food should taste like dog poo. 3) Springfieldians have low expectations of Mexican food 4) Springfieldians have never had real Mexican food. New to Springfield - Great food! I had the steak fajitas and let me just say, it's so great to get real steak! It makes all the difference! My family loved this place , the friendly clean atmosphere makes it a great place to bring the entire family! I asked for hot sauce to spice up my food and three times I asked for it to be hotter. I spend my time in Chicago and Los Angeles, 2 places that have really good Mexican restaurants so I always find it difficult finding good Mexican food when I'm traveling. I was getting my nails done today and complained about the awful mexican food we have tried here in Springfield when the girl getting her nails done next to me said, "have you been Amigos yet?"... I had not. She said she was originally from Houston and picky about her Mexican food and this was her "go to" place. So I picked up my better half and convinced him to try one more mexican joint in Springfield on a good recommendation. So happy we didnt give up on finding a good place here. The food was great and the margarita was tasty and reasonably priced as well. This food had flavor and was served hot and fresh. I ordered the 2 fried chimichangas...on the nail girl's recommendation, and my husband ordered the 2 enchiladas, one beef and one chicken with a steak quesadilla on the side. He also tried the asada tacos and I threw in a strawberry margarita just for good measure. The chimichangas came smothered in queso and had guacamole and sour cream on top. The asada tacos were yummy too and came with a side of beans and fresh pico de gallo l...something we have not been served at any of the 5 other mexican places we have tried previously. I love fresh pico and It was all delicious. The waitress was very personable and even brought us a hotter version of their salsa which was tasty tasty...flavorful with a bite of hot at tge end thst snuck up on you and burned your lips...yummy. All in all it was a great experience. We will definitely be back to try more. read more

I've been here a few times and always had good experiences. I even "drove through" one time and got a bag of tacos to go and that was fun- and kind of funny, as the guy walked out to my car to take my order. This place is a gem! We went for lunch. The prices seemed reasonable and the food was great! Its definetly not authentic mexican but a great tex-mex joint to eat at! You can tell this is a family owned operation and the staff really all works together to accommodate all the customers. The salsa is great, it's chunky not just a liquid like most other places! I would recommend requesting the spicy salsa and mixing the two together.... it's excellent! We had chicken fajitas, rice, refried beans, chicken enchilada with cheese sauce, beef enchilada with cheese sauce, and a beef quesdilla. Everything was really great.. no complaints! The best frozen margarita I have had in a long time! The service was just okay...nothing special, but the food was excellent! It's cinco de mayo and the place was busy but our food arrived quickly. The Chile relleno was outstanding....the tacos Azada were wonderful and the beans were nothing short of fantastic!! Salsa was pretty good as well but the Pico lacked a little bit. Good food for great price! First time I went the chips wasn't crunchy and cold. salsa were off. I love my steak fajita so I gave it second chance. I went back and everything were suddenly better. I have huge plate of yummy fajita for less than 10 buck. Only downside was the Salsa was warm, I think they put in the bottle and left it outside for a while. We've been looking for some good Mexican in Springfield after having our minds blown at place in KC. So we gave Amigo's a try. Place is small and a bit cramped. The menu was pretty standard. Chips and salsa were ok. Nothing over the top but not bad. Added some Tapatio and gave it an little extra flavor. Rice and Beans we both agreed were better than average for Springfield but still not amazing. My burrito was full of nice cuts of meat but were missing the extra something that I was hoping to find. Price was standard. So Amigos is A-ok in my book but I think we will keep looking for amazing Mexican. read more

This is my all time favorite Mexican restaurant. Martinez always greets us as we walk in .They know what we drink an always cheese dip an Hot Salsa.Their salsa is always amazing. Still my goto comfort place! I've been coming here for the past 7 or 8 years. Yes, it's tex mex. Yes, they have authentic cuisine as well. The spicy salsa IS spicy but very flavorful. There are times when it's not quite as hot but it's kind of like when you make Chilli, the longer it sits the hotter it gets. They have some of the best Carne Asada in town, in my opinion. Will say I'm not a fan of the "Carnitas" or "Al Pastor" but maybe its changed as I haven't had it in a few years. All in all, you can beat this place. Tons of flavor, excellent prices, cold beer! Pretty decent, semi-authentic mexican food. The margaritas were excellent,and the steak fajita nachos (I believe they have a different name, though I can't remember it) were pretty good as well - well seasoned with lots of queso blanco, though I wouldn't have complained if they'd made them a tiny bit spicier. The first time I went the guacamole was wonderful (though I admit it might have been a little salty for some), but it wasn't very exciting on my 2nd visit (a week later). The staff was friendly but the food was not that good. The salsa was watery and chips too thick. After reading the menu, which was more like a book ( at least 6 pages) I finally decided on a combination plate which had a beef taco, beef enchilada and what was supposed to be a beef tamale. All three items on my plate tasted the same...salty. My plate did not come with rice so I ordered a side of it, it was bland and mushy. My husband ordered the chimichanga. There was so much lettuce on top it made his "crunchy"shell soggy. He ordered a side of guacamole that was not fresh made and came in a tiny side cup for $2.99. He did like the beans! I hate to be the "I'm from Southern California, so I know Mexican food" person, but guys, it's true. I'll admit we don't have BBQ that can ever compare with what you guys have here and you'll just have to take my word on the mexican food thing, ok? I've been in Springfield for going on a month now and had been putting off going out for mexican food because I suspected I wasn't going to find anything as good as what we're used to/what I can make at home/what I grew up eating. Based on the reviews, we thought this would be our best bet and gave it a try. It was busy when we arrived on a Saturday afternoon, always a good sign. Then we tasted the salsa that was brought out with the chips and we were immediately a little concerned. There's an awful chain of americanized Mexican restaurants in Seattle called Azteca and this salsa tasted exactly like what they serve - not a good sign. It was overly sweet and had no heat going on at all. The chips were good - thick and crunchy, but the salsa needed a heavy splash of tapatio to have any flavor at all. We'd been out beer tasting earlier so in an attempt to not have consumed all the carbs in the world, I opted for fajitas and the dude ordered the spicy burrito. Our food came out and the first thing I noticed was that the fajitas were drowning in oil. Overall, my food wasn't bad, it just wasn't good. Greasy chicken and veggies, served with a side of pretty standard beans and very bland rice and a dollop of sour cream and unnaturally green avocado goo (zero other flavors happening here, I'm not even calling it guacamole). After taking a few bites of his burrito, the best the dude could come up with was that it tasted vaguely like something you'd get at taco bell. Again, a not very flavorful mix of beans and meat in a red sauce. I'd asked for a hotter salsa and they brought out something that was still incredibly mild, but much, much better than what they bring you with chips. We were hungry so we ate our food, but it definitely didn't satisfy the mexican food craving. Yelp's explanation for two stars is "Meh. I've experience better." which is pretty much exactly how I feel about this place. The service was good, the atmosphere was just fine, but the food left a lot to be desired. I'm wondering if they're capable of doing proper Mexican preparations but have just had to modify the flavors to suit the palate of the average customer in the area? Do I need a secret password to get them to make me a great plate of spicy chile verde or some homestyle arroz con pollo? Who knows, we may try a few more places and decide, yep, this is IT for Mexican food here, but in the meantime I think I'll reserve Mexican dining for my home cooking or my trips back home every few months. read more

Even though it's small they have a fully stocked bar and cute atmosphere. We got the shrimp fajitas and they came with so much shrimp!
