I called to inquire about becoming a new patient. I was informed I had to pay $600 for a practice fee (and this is an annual fee) in order to book the appointment. I asked what does the fee cover, they said it covers wait time (when you have an appointment you don't have to wait for more than 5mins to be seen), the doctor usually goes over scheduled time with her patients because she really cares and then they said any additional fees that insurance doesn't cover. I'm like well typically if insurance doesn't cover something the provider lets you know and they bill you for the amount owes. So now I'm concerned, you will charge me $600 for the first appointment, I don't even know if I will like your practice and then I will be charged annually $600. That's a bit much in today's economy and an interesting business model. But too each its own. I personally don't feel comfortable paying $600 and idek this lady. She could be a trash dr read more

**Trigger warning: This post discusses miscarriage.** TL;DR - Dr. Bliss does not offer D&C or Cytotec (Mistoprostol) as a part of her practice. Meaning, if you have a non viable pregnancy (a miscarriage) she will refer you to a stranger and leave you out to dry if any action is needed. __________________ Full Post At 6-7 weeks, a pelvic ultrasound showed that I had an anembryonic pregnancy. Dr. Bliss immediately pushed for me to schedule a D&C. As these decisions are emotional, I wanted to wait and see for a couple more weeks to see if by a miracle something would show up, nothing ever did. When started discussing my options more fully I couldn't understand why Dr. Bliss was pushing VERY hard for a D&C vs. taking Cytotec. **Before continuing I must stress that both options are very safe, the risks for either are minimal! I'm saying this now because I plan to outline the risks for context of Dr. Bliss' poor advice but I am not a medical professional, and would never want anyone to read this and be scared of either option as they are very important options if you have a non viable pregnancy (a miscarriage) ** As we talked, Dr. Bliss pushed for a D&C to the point where I was uncomfortable and thought she was being unprofessional. She made it seem that there would be a high chance of hemorrhaging and needing a blood transfusion if I took Cytotec and while this is possible, it's extremely unlikely. On the other hand, the potential side effects of a D&C include loss of fertility, also extremely unlikely but possible. As I do not have kids yet, the potential risks involved with the D&C seemed worse for me personally. She made a few other false claims which I won't outline but she gave me unsound advice when I was at my most vulnerable. After leaving Dr. Bliss' office I called and had 2 other consultations with experienced OBGYNs who reassured me that Cytotec was a safe option. However both doctors advised that when you take Cytotec you need to take pain medication and have constant monitoring for the first few days so it's best to be in a doctor's care for the follow up appointments and blood draws required to make sure everything is going smoothly. So, because I paid the $450 practice fee for Dr. Bliss I wanted her to see me through this time and went back one last time and told her that while I appreciated her advice to do the D&C, I wanted to take Cytotec and asked her to prescribe it to me. It was then that she really showed her true colors and told me that she actually doesn't even offer Cytotec as part of her practice because she doesn't 'believe in it'. And she said that if I wanted to 'do something like that' I'd have to 'go across town to like West LA and go to Planned Parenthood were they do that type of thing'. I WAS FLOORED!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was honestly too shocked to speak or respond so I told her I'd get back to her and walked out. And to be clear, I am a full supporter of Planned Parenthood but I am not someone who should be taking resources away from them. Also, every other OBGYN in Santa Monica / Venice area that I spoke to, offers Cytotec. This drug is completely common, safe, cheap and you can even order it online now. So, given Dr. Bliss' tone, I have to assume that her reasoning for not prescribing this drug or performing the D&C procedure herself is NOT medically based but personal....and I will let you come to your own conclusions about that. In the end, I took the Cytotec under the care of a fabulous OBGYN in Santa Monica who told me that in 25 years of practicing she has NEVER had an issue with this medication. I also had no complications and as sad as I was, I was so thankful I trusted my instincts and went to someone else. Oh and the worst part is that Dr.Bliss has not called, texted, emailed or anything since that day in her office. All I've received is a bill for the blood draw that day. She literally has no clue what happened with me, if I'm alive or dead. I'm just honestly so taken aback by her lack of follow up and professionalism because if she was really concerned about my choice, I think she would have at least called to make sure I was okay, right? But I guess the practice fee only gets you good service if you have a healthy pregnancy. Finally, given that roughly 25% of pregnancy ends in miscarriage I am writing this post because I want to warn women away from this practice which I can only assume will be emboldened given the current political climate. As women, we should have the power to make decisions about the care we receive and Dr. Bliss tried to take that away from me by scaring me with exaggerated facts and misinformation. I am so lucky to have such an incredible support system and the will to push back. But Dr. Bliss made one of the worst moments in my life even worse and I would never want anyone else to ever feel the way she made me feel. (OR, if you're looking for support to terminate a pregnancy, this practice is not a safe space for you.) read more

I really wanted to explore having Dr. Bliss as my OB, even knowing that she charges a network fee of $2000+ just to be able to see her for your pregnancy (this fee is not covered by insurance, is only for your pregnancy and 6 weeks post partum, and doesn't go toward anything - it is purely out of pocket and gives you access to her as a provider - all usual charges for care/appts/procedures still apply and might be eligible for insurance coverage). I find this fee not ideal, but I was willing to spend if it meant I had a good match with a highly trained doctor. I called the office in July to see if I could join the network and was told that they still had a space for my delivery month and could hold a spot for me. I asked if I could do a virtual meet and greet with Dr Bliss before subscribing. I was told by Angel at the front desk that she doesn't do virtual meet and greets, so I called back once I was in town and was then informed that she doesn't do in person meet and greets either. Apparently, as a new patient you just have to subscribe, pay the fee, commit to the year long care and then you meet her. You can't even pay a meet and greet fee of $375 for 15 minutes (again, purely out of pocket, not covered by insurance and doesn't go toward anything if you decide to subscribe). I asked for any other way I could get to know Dr. Bliss so I could confirm she would be a good match, and was told it's not offered or possible. Then via voicemail the next day I was informed Dr. Bliss no longer had space to take me on as patient for my delivery time period. I'm now left to find a new provider late in the game. I'm incredibly disappointed in this experience and find her practices to be unprofessional and untethered from any financial reality or basic business expectations from clients/patients. read more

Dr Bliss has been my OB-GYN for 15+ years and has delivered one of my baby's natural, delivered another by C-section, and delivered by third by VBAC. Each birth experience was as close to perfect as a mother could want, in large part because of Dr. Bliss. She is, first and foremost, a brilliant doctor and surgeon. She will think of all the things you want her to be thinking about, and she is somehow always realistic, optimistic, and accurate! She has also seen me through two breast cancer scares and a pituitary gland tumor scare (she was wise enough to dig deeper when my breastmilk supply didn't completely taper off after I weaned my last child). I consider Dr. Bliss a partner in my heath and even though I won't have additional kids, I will never leave her! She is a true gem. I have never written a review of a doctor before and no one has asked me to do it now, I just want other women to know how great Dr. Bliss is - she is absolutely worth coming out of pocket for now that she is out of network everywhere. i live for dr bliss. i got pregnant at the very beginning of lockdown 2020, and had an okay gyno close to where i live in the valley. i wanted someone more caring for such a sensitive time in my life and Dr Bliss was recommended by a friend who had 3 children under her care, so we met and i knew she was the one. i have endometriosis and have been dismissed by male and female drs my whole life. Dr Bliss is kind, patient, enthusiastic about her patients, and really takes the time to get to know her patients. she switched offices 2020 and implemented a fee - the new office is much smaller, newer (cleaner), and she is never in a rush so i'm happy to pay. i have since recommended my best friend who has a complicated medical history, and she said she has never felt safer in a doctors hands, and i agree! read more

AMAZING! Going to see Dr. Bliss is like teatime with a good girlfriend. We laughed and chatted pretty much non-stop from the time she entered the room to the time things were done. We spent more time talking about life, men, etc., than about medical stuff, which was a welcome relief after seeing other doctors who see you as nothing more than a body. Super disappointed in my experience with Dr. Bliss. I understand doctors are busy and have lots of responsibilities but there's no excuse for not giving care where it's needed. I went to Dr. Bliss for the first time back in October of 2018 after a long and stressful search for a new gyno in my network. I needed to have an IUD removed and I wanted to be put on the pill again. I told her I wanted something that would help regulate my hormonal acne, too. She put me on a pill and I went about my life. In January I realized I hadn't had a period since I had started the pill. I wasn't pregnant, and when I called to make another appointment they told me the adjustment period could look like this and that it was normal. I still wanted to see the doctor because my hormonal acne was getting worse if anything and I wanted to see if anything was up. Dr. Bliss was pretty late to our appointment which is ok. But she only gave me about 5 minutes of time before she told me to go sit for a blood test. I did so and left feeling like I was going to get some answers. That was February 1st. I got the bill for my blood test in early march and finally today called the office to see if I could get the results. I still haven't had a period and my hormonal acne is worse than ever. The nurse apologized for not having called me with the results but that the results were normal so it was fine. I told her that no, it wasn't fine because I still had the issues that brought me into the doctor in the first place and that now I feel like I need to find a new doctor - one that will follow up with me about my care. I'm a healthy woman in my mid 20s and, as I think any woman would agree, it's pretty jarring not to have a period at all for almost 6 months. It would've been nice to have felt like I at least had a little support from my doctor. I don't recommend Dr. Bliss. She probably won't have the time for you. read more

This review is specifically about the $450 annual practice fee. Dr.Bliss is an amazing provider; however, I'm extremely disappointed to hear about this additional fee. It's extremely exclusionary to low income folks or anyone who depends on insurance coverage for their visits. This fee cannot be covered by insurance and the office explained that it's not a fee for the visit but a fee for office services like "paperwork" but I don't see it as anything but exclusionary to anyone who relies o their insurance to get care. I saw her for my annual check-ups which is fully covered by insurance (ACA requires plans to fully cover preventive services so long as provider is non-network and preventive services include annual well women's exams). I can of course find another provider who is in-network but the office also told me that this practice is becoming "extremely common" - I have never heard of this before and sure hope not because that undoes any of the good of getting insurance to cover visits and creates yet another barrier for folks to get care. read more

Finding a doctor can be so daunting, and I was so fortunate to have found Dr. Bliss through Yelp. She was the only one I came across who didn't have any negative reviews in regards to her actual service and expertise. When I became pregnant with my first child, it was important to me to have a doctor I could trust and who would answer all my questions and make me feel understood. As other reviews have stated, Dr. Bliss does all that and more. From the very first meeting she made me feel celebrated, taken care of, and empowered with information which gave me as stress-free of a pregnancy as possible. Her demeanor is laid back and friendly, but she is also incredibly knowledgeable and of course serious when necessary. I never once doubted her advice or the info she gave me and I felt like I was in the very best hands from my first ultrasound until she delivered my baby boy via c-section. I was living very far from friends and family when I was pregnant so going in for my check ups and to talk to Dr. Bliss helped everything to feel more real; the entire staff from the front desk to the nurses always made me feel very welcome. When we moved shortly after I had my baby, I cried saying goodbye to her - she made that much of an impact on me and truly guided me through the most important time in my life. It hurts to know she won't be my doctor for any future children/pregnancies I have, but if you are lucky enough to get to have her as your doctor your journey will be made that much less stressful thanks to her care. read more

This is an in network provider who would provide a service that's totally covered by my insurance yet her policy is to charge everyone that annual fee to cover a bunch of "services" that I will not be using or benefiting from! Sounds like Dr. Bliss is just trying to rip patients off. Wow, can you say rude??? I called in as a new patient to see Dr. Bliss. The receptionist didn't even give me the time of day. She quickly informed me that Dr. Bliss wasn't taking new patients until mid November (which is fine), and then asked me what insurance I had. After I told her my insurance company, she told me that they didn't take it and I'd need to go elsewhere, before hanging up on me. If you're wanting to take patients, at least be accommodating. She also has a great memory, so you can talk about one thing on one visit and weeks later, she'll ask you about that same thing. When visiting Dr. Bliss, you never feel like one of a million faceless patients. As for her services, she's spot on. Bliss is very concerned with her patients' well-being and once saw me on several hours' notice when she was worried. The staff is also quite lovely and I never dread a visit. What a blessing to have found Dr. Bliss. I'm 40 and trying to have children and have some issues involved, so I wanted a really good doctor. I did so much online researching for a month and couldn't find a good one. Then my friend recommended that I look up Aminah Bliss. Aside from being warm and friendly, she has that perfect balance of keeping me informed of important concerns, but not going overboard about them. I feel safe, informed, and well taken care of. She even called personally to give me results from my last check up. She is pretty awesome, and I wish she could be my doctor for everything!! Also helpful, the office calls you to confirm your appointment; I think it shows up as an unlisted number though (I didn't check the voicemail until later at the end of the day since I thought it was spam hehe). Dr. Bliss is truly an extraordinary doctor. I've been seeing her since we moved here 8 years ago and she has been nothing short of spectacular. She is extremely knowledgeable and makes sure that you receive the best care possible by throughly answering every question and making visits enjoyable. Words can not express how grateful I am for this amazing woman. How can I give 100 stars to someone? I obsessively searched for the right OB to guide me through my pregnancy and even tho I got so many recommendations, my instinct kept telling me to go and meet Dr. Bliss whom I found on Yelp! From the first day till my delivery, she was nothing short of incredible, professional and most importantly caring. She'd sit and talk to me as long as I needed. Answer every silly question I had and called me back instantly with any concern. Around 36 weeks I had some early labor signs to which she told me to head to hospital right away. After being checked in, she came 10 minutes later on a Sunday at 11:30 pm! She wanted me to stay the night and get IV, monitor my contractions and baby all night. Whatever she suggested worked! My contractions settled and everything else stoped and saved my baby from being born few weeks too early. I was placed on bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy and my baby held on for couple more weeks. She was such a pro during my delivery that it actually wasn't as bad as I anticipated. She came to visit me every day at the hospital after and made sure I was looked after properly by the hospital staff. I feel so lucky to have found her and I couldn't imagine anyone else handling my pregnancy and delivery. Today was my second visit to Dr. Bliss' office. I love her vibrant personality and the fact that she's easy to talk to. However, as much as I would like to keep her as my doctor, her office staff made it difficult. The office charged me for urinary test that I declined. Supposedly it's part of their routine procedures in addition to taking your blood pressure. The fees appeared on my bill despite my decline, not once, but both visits. Who needs a urinary test when coming in for just a routine Pap smear? I call it a blind deceit. Nice doctor; poor office staff. Manager is rude when it came to resolving the bill with her. read more

I've recently switched jobs which made me have to switch doctors. I was pretty nervous because I had been with the same doctor for a number of years through my old insurance and generally liked her. Well, the moment I walked into Dr. Bliss's office, I knew that that other doctor I had visited in the past could not hold a candle to what I was about to experience! Everyone in the office is nice and cheery. I seriously felt like I was visiting an old friend. I watched as other patients arrived. The nurses and administrative employees greeted them by first name and gave hugs and asked about their families. I noticed that the office, waiting room and bathroom had a homey, warm feeling and did not have the sterile, sparse decor that you would normally associate with a doctor's office. Then, I met Dr. Bliss. She was all smiles, enthusiastic, and completely down to earth. She made me feel comfortable and at ease within seconds. She took the time to get to know me, listened to my concerns and answered any questions that I had thoughtfully. I got the sense that Dr. Bliss truly cared for me and wanted to provide the best medical service possible. She thanked me for choosing her. Dr. Bliss then personally called me the next week to let me know the results of my pap smear and asked if I had any questions about anything. I LOVE DR. BLISS! I've always been very particular about my doctors so when I moved to LA I was worried I would have trouble finding ones I liked. My friend recommended Dr. Bliss and from the minute I met her at my first appointment I felt like I had been friends with her forever. She is by far the nicest doctor I've been to. Absolutely love Dr. Bliss. She was supportive, caring, and relaxing to be with during the entire pregnancy process. I chose not to rotate around with different doctors in the office so got to know Dr. Bliss. Fortunately, she was on call for my delivery. Everything went super and her office staff did an amazing circumcision job! It just felt so comforting to have someone like Dr. Bliss by my side during this intense and stressful time. She saw me through two pregnancies, took excellent care of me, and delivered both my babies through C-section (the first an emergency after 24 hours of drug-free labor, the second scheduled). Just went to see Dr. Bliss for the first time. So far, I had a good experience. They were within 15 minutes of being on time which is pretty good. The receptionist was nice and efficient. I only had to wait in the room for about a minute before the doctor came in. Dr. Bliss herself was very nice and has a great personality which in this specialty is a big plus because many people are uncomfortable going to an OB-GYN. I've asked 4 other doctors about an issue I have an they all ignored it, but Dr. Bliss actually discussed it with me and how to address it.
