Going to see Dr. Sikking has been a salvation for me, having menopause, she put an end to that helping me with the excellent care I need, talking to me very sincerely, and taking care of me on each visit, I had to have a hysterectomy, and the fact that she held my hand until the anesthesia kicked in gave me so much strength knowing that she is a human being. Amazing! Kind! Down to earth! Approachable! Dr Sikking or Emily (she asked me to call her Emily) is the best. I am so happy to have found her. To be honest I was given her info over 5 years ago by my reproductive endocrinologist. Before finding Emily I had been searching for an OBGYN for over 5 years. No joke I have seen over 5 different doctors in the last 5 years. The other doctors ranged from overwhelmed to downright creepy. But they accepted insurance so I chose them over Emily. Bad move! After the last previous doctor BEFORE EMILY had lost my pathology report post miscarriage (huge miserable story I am writing a review about this so check it out) I decided my husband and I had had enough. I went back to the notes and decided to give Emily a call. The Waiting room was empty! I've never seen this at a previous OBGYN. At least not the ones who accept insurance. It was super zen and quiet. A super sweet nurse came in and chatted while taking vitals. I learned that she's been with Emily for years and adores her. It's nice to see the employees are treated well and likes the boss. Then Emily came in and it felt like I was chatting with an old girlfriend. No judgments, no rushing me... I got to ask all of my questions and I mean ALL then we had the exam and she made it super comfortable for me. She's also involved with a local women's abuse organization (forgot the name but will add later if I find out). Women supporting women. Doesn't get much better! - Insurance She does not take insurance. Not even my great PPO type. This was a bit scary for us but after experiencing the 5 years of searching and the other doctors - we said to hell with it. We are paying cash then THEY DO THE HARD WORK of submitting the bill on our behalf. We then receive the reimbursement check. - Parking Definitely not easy as this is an entire medical hospital block but if you're willing to loop several times or park and walk a bit you can. Wow. What an amazing doctor. I had been having pain in my lower right side/ issues with ovarian cysts and I felt like no doctor would listen to me. Dr. Sikking took the time to fully try and understand my symptoms and made me feel so comfortable and welcome. I was almost in tears about how positive my experience with her was because I haven't had a positive experience at the doctors office in a while. 10/10 would recommend to anyone!!! read more

After the birth of my second child, I had some concerns around healing and recovery. Though I have a wonderful relationship with my OBGYN, they are part of a larger hospital system so I thought I would "treat" myself to an out-of-network doctor, as it was my expectation they would be able to spend more time with me and provide a more thorough level of care. Unfortunately, this was far from my experience, and left me wishing I had just gone back to my doctor and saved myself the time, money, and emotions. To start, the doctor kept me waiting for over an hour and only came in after I asked the nurse if they were still planning to see me. While I was there, I was put in three different rooms -- one to weigh me and ask some preliminary questions, one for meeting with the doctor, and one for my actual exam. Each room was tiny and kept in pretty poor condition (scuffed walls, boxes of records/equipment, broken lights/equipment). Once the doctor actually came in, she was pretty cold and unfriendly in her demeanor. I immediately felt guarded and vulnerable, which is a horrible way to feel when you're speaking about something as personal as childbirth and recovery. During the conversation, she made repeated judgmental comments (e.g. in reference to where I chose to give birth... which was ultimately pretty ironic, given that my experience in that system so far surpassed this one). When we went in for the exam, she did so without any sort of curtain/partition between my open legs and the door 2 feet behind her (i.e. anyone can walk in at any time with you fully exposed). And then as I was leaving, I was told that the appointment was $700 instead of the $500 I was quoted because I chose to have the ultrasound. This was especially frustrating as this was not told to me on the phone prior to the appointment, nor during the appoinment when I specifically asked the doctor if there was any reason not to have the ultrasound if it was included in the appointment. She said there was no reason not to. Lastly, the office took my insurance information when I checked in. I asked them why, and asked if they were submitting for out of network benefits on my behalf. They said yes. They have not done so. It has been 5+ months and I have followed up twice. read more

We had a great experience with Dr. Sikking. She is experienced, kind and has great communication with her patients. The office offered us convenient hours, and we never had to deal with a crowded waiting room. She went above and beyond to make sure out little girl was delivered perfectly. I was having some concerns with a double/triple chin. I went to see Dr. Sikking through a friend's referral. I have never had any "work" previously done to my body before and was very nervous. The Sculpsure process I soon learned was super easy. I just sat in a room for 25 minutes with a unit under my chin. Dr. Sikking stayed with me the entire time and walked me through the process. The heat did have some moderate pain during the 25 minutes, but as soon as it was over I was fine and I had no pain or swelling afterwards. Soon, friends started asking if I lost weight. They could see it in my face that it was less round and more defined! I did feel like I needed another two sessions to get me where I am today which is very pleased and I feel good about myself and confident. Thanks so much! read more

This was the worst experience I've had with a doctor in ages. Dr. Sikking caused so much anxiety during my treatment it was a horrible. Something that should have taken 2 visits maximum, ended up taking 6 visits. Which even after the 6th visit, was not resolved. I ended up having to go to another doctor to get another option as what Dr. Sikking was recommending didn't make sense. Each visit to Dr. Sikking was a 45 minute wait in the exam room, which was extremely frustrating. On top of that, the incorrect dosage of medicine was prescribed, which caused me to have to take it multiple times. Save yourself the headache and extra anxiety, and don't see Dr. Sikking. read more

I'm shocked by the bad reviews here, although they are old. Dr. Sikking is the best. I came to her after I was referred by two doctors when I found out I was pregnant with my first daughter whom Dr. Sikking delivered in Feb 2014. She is the sweetest, most caring and informative doctor I've ever had. Being my first pregnancy I was neurotic and overanalyzed everything and she has such a mellow personality she always calmed me down so easily explaining everything is fine. She is always able to answer my questions and even responds to me promptly when I email her about questions or other doctor referrals years after having my daughter. She referred me to my pediatrician who couldn't be a more perfect fit. She gave me my perfect birth plan and it couldn't have been more comfortable at St. Johns. Dr. Sikking delivered our baby last week, and I have nothing but praise for her. She was patient and understanding of my wife not wanting a C-Section and was willing to wait...and wait... for her labor to progress. Eventually my wife was able to give birth naturally and Dr. Sikking was amazing during the delivery. She coached my wife brilliantly through only 20 mins of pushing, and delivered us a beautiful little girl (and a healthy wife)! I was amazed by Dr. Sikking's calm and control of everything throughout what seems like could be a very chaotic event. Dr. Sikking will definitely be our doctor for the next child. We really appreciate her candor and honesty. We always felt like she had time for us, and truly cared about us and our baby. It was super hard time in my life but once when my baby and I were ready, she came in just an half hour with her wonderful technique. My baby came out so smooth. I had first stage of tearing. I'm on Tonik health insurance, so I found Dr. Sikking by searching my plan, and the location is super close to my office. I found her to be extremely professional, not too clinical, but not too verge-on-homeopathic-medicine personal. She's right down the middle, which is what I prefer. I've only been twice, for the routine check-up and a prescription refill, and I feel confident in recommending her based on those experiences. Of course, I'm not new to going to OBGYNs, but I think she would be appropriate even for those young-uns going for their first time. Since it's near my work, both appointments were towards the beginning of her schedule in the day, so she was on time for both, and didn't waste my time. However, it seems like all doctors get behind towards the end of the day, so I can't vouch for that. Her office will send your prescription to whatever pharmacy you like, but be prepared with the pharmacy information, or else they default to sending it across the street to the CVS. And get your annual check-up!! read more

I cannot believe after nearly a decade of knowing this woman I have not written a public testimonial, God knows I talk about her non stop to my fertile/pregnant friends. 1) She is down to earth, funny, smart, and gets to the point. Yes she will be fluffy if you need it here and there, but she is a straight shooter which, in medicine, you need. You need someone to acknowledge that yes you're anxious, but she is the expert and has delivered thousands of babies and thus, can do this in her sleep. So chill. Relax. Get all zen and yogi with that precious being in your belly. But with all the other stuff, she's got ya covered. 2) Yes there is a wait most times when you see her, but she also spends AT least 30-40 minutes with you so there. Suck it up. She's not going to examine you and run out the door (unless she's got a delivery), she will sit down, ask how you are, trade stories, and be your friend. 3) She will always be my gyn, and shes great with that. But GUYS! She is HANDS DOWN the BEST OB on earth. Both my babies were in weird positions, I was in labor at least 48hrs, and both times when I just couldn't imagine anything but a C-section... Sikking would walk in and with utter confidence say "ok. Ready to have a baby? You're going to push this baby out and you will be great." And she was right. Both times when every nurse told me I should have had a C section or tear to a million degrees, it never happened. They realize my OB is Dr Sikking and they say "never mind. You have the most patient doctor and she will allow you to labor down." Let me simplify: not only is St Johns an amazing hospital- but EVERY nurse respects Dr Sikking and when she walks into the room, they all take positions and do exactly as she says. I contemplate having another baby just to have Sikking deliver me... but then nah, haha... because the after birth/child raising is the hard part. amirite? LOL 4) She follows up closely post partum. Why am I seeing her 2 weeks after delivery I wondered. But she sat down, asked me how motherhood is going, handed me a kleenex, gave me a hug... told me I'm the best mom to my baby and that these days are hard, but I'll sleep again and it'll all get better. And you know what? She's right. She cares enough to see us not at 6 weeks to check for the physical aftermath of delivery, but at 2 weeks to check in on us for the emotional aftermath. And there my friends is where I leave you. This review is way too long. But I can go on and on about this woman. I am so very grateful that she will forever be part of my birthing story, that she was the first to hold my babies when they entered this world... Thank you Dr. Sikking. I just moved from Los Angeles to San Francisco and I needed to go on line to find Dr. Sikkings address for our new health insurance qustionaire. I had no intention of writing any reviews, but in the process of finding her address I stumbled upon this site. Dr. Sikking has been my ob for the past 6 years. She delivered all three of my children and she consoled me through my 3 miscarriages ( all three happended before my last, and final, third child). I love her!!!!! She is an amazing woman. The experience I had was uncomfortable and aggressive. Emily was unprofessional and rude to me when my primary doctor was doing something not to her liking. She refused to contact/communicate with her on her own and was unhelpful when I've had a serious medical history. I felt I had deserved better treatment. I also had to contact them for my results. No Thanks! DEFINATELY not 4.5 stars - What are you thinking fellow Yelpers!? I came here on the recommendation of yelp... Ah, you usually never do me wrong! Not this time. Perhaps, Dr. Sikking is better for birthing, but for general OBGYN female stuff, I've had much better. I waited outside for 25 minutes, only to be taken into the room to wait for the Dr. for another - what seemed like 40 minutes. She was very straight forward and no-nonsense. If you want someone to coddle you and hold your hand, this is not the Dr. for you. Maybe she was having a bad day, I donno, she seemed over-it. I told the receptionist and the Dr. that I was paying for the visit out of pocket. I simply went in for an annual exam and was told what the price would be upfront. It was around $300. I knew how much I was going to be billed and how much the lab costs were... However, she had me take unnecessary tests and blood work which set me back another $160 or so... The worst part was that I found out about this extra bill, 3 months AFTER the fact, when a receptionist called me to tell me I had an outstanding balance. This was news to me. I told her I had already received a bill and indeed already paid it. She said she'll look into it and that she would call me back. She never called and I received another bill 2 weeks later. My total out of pocket costs were closer to $500 in the end for an annual pap smear and breast exam. The billing/accounting department is not very helpful here, I just paid it out of frustration to get them off my back. With so many options on the westside, I think I will keep on keeping on... elsewhere. Maybe even Planned Parenthood... It's about the same long ass wait time, minus the huge cost, attitude and at least they give you free condoms. read more

I couldn't ask for a better OB/GYN. Dr. Sikking is realistic, funny, honest and approachable. I have been going to her for over five years now and actually look forward to my annual checkups. Now that I'm having my first child, I can't think of a better person to deliver our baby. I rarely find doctors who are as good with patients as they are smart. She's just fabulous. If you looking for a smart, cool, female doctor who "gets it," look no further. Also, her staff is AMAZING. I believe she observes and mitigates potential risks that other doctors wouldn't due to her careful diligence and specialized pre-natal schedule. I am very disappointed in Dr. Sikking. At first, she seems like a "caring" doctor, but she knows how to play the game and is fake. Don't get me started with her fake hugs at the end of the appointments! My experience with doctors on the west side has been horrible. She is out of network, and I paid her over 3k in cash to treat me for a unknown condition caused by another doctor's negligence. I am very much aware that I have been injured by a procedure and I have been fighting for a diagnosis almost 2 years now, and won't give up until I get one! I went to her because I heard from a friend she was good and supposedly straight forward and no bs type of doctor. She ended putting me on a bunch of antibiotics to get clean lab result tests. Practically trying to poison me and had the guts to say we need to play "voodoo" on you! She told me in my face that whatever infection I had was being resistant to the original antibiotic she prescribed. When I confronted her and described my concerns, she dismissed me and said she never said I had an anti resistant bacteria. I caught her lying in my face, but not surprised by it. Not a smart doctor at all, and does not like to be challenged. I was told by others in the medical community that her daddy is in entertainment business, so she is all about her "image". Tired of these types of "so called" doctors. Taking my business out of this area and going out of state. Do not waste your hard working dollars on these phonies! I have nothing against her nurse Lilian, but I feel sorry that she thinks she works for an honest and decent doctor. Her front staff office is horrible as well. Does not log in records and misplaces important documents. Very scary! read more

Dr. Sikking was awesome. She took the time to talk to me about something that was troubling me about my personal health, and took the time to dig into my family history so that she could look me over with the most information possible. She referred me to specialists who were kind and went the extra mile to communicate. I spent almost no time on the table because she was efficient and to the point and discussed all of my concerns for twenty minutes before I even sat on the examining table, which I appreciate. We isolated the problem, talked about it, and got some imaging done. Luckily everything is fine, as predicted, but it's nice to know that she took my concerns seriously and made sure everything went as expected. Also, the front desk was super helpful, and got me in for an appointment that day. AND the nigh Amazonian lady (she's very tall) that took my blood was amazing. I always have problems with people taking my blood, not enough will come out or veins will "roll" out of their needle reach and they will start digging... but this fine lady had it over and done with in no time at all without making one vein roll away and it was almost completely painless. Seriously, I dread going to the doctor and these ladies made is a pleasant experience. read more

I've previously written a YELP review about Dr. Sikking but I can't help writing another as this week I had an appointment with her. Other reviews have mentioned the wait time. However, when Dr. Sikking is with you in the exam room, you'd think you're the only patient for the day. She intently listens to your questions and concerns and then, with a big warm comforting smile, she addresses all. Dr. Sikking has a way of putting your anxiety on the back burner. I love her. As long as she is practicing I will be her patient. If you're considering whether or not to make an appointment, I highly recommend doing so. Dr Sikking delivered my first child and everything went smoothly. Yes at some visits I did have a long wait, but usually at every visit she gave me enough time to ask questions and do an exam (as necessary). When it was the morning of delivery, I went in to the hospital without calling her, I'm sure she was surprised to see me in labor but sure enough baby was ready to arrive! Being the first pregnancy I didn't know what I was getting myself into! And Dr. Sikking was very calm and reassuring. Within 20 minutes of pushing our baby was born! I'm now preparing to have baby #3 and so far all appointments have gone well, the wait time is still there occasionally, however when I have needed a same date appointment she has always accommodated me, and as a full-time working mother, I appreciate her flexibility. read more

This is really tough to write but I definitely see the need to have this information included in the reviews for people, like myself, who would want and need to know this. Dr. Sikking is smart and on top of her game. She sent me to the best specialists and did all the things she should have done, didn't take any chances. When I informed her of my personal choice for my delivery option, she was accommodating. So, if you go to her you'll be in good hands. But, if you happen to have something unfortunate happen to you, as I did, you will wish you had never heard her name and had gone to a different and caring doctor. Fisrt of all, not everything was so great during my pregnancy related visits and information requests. Many times, she'd make me wait until she saw all of her patients before coming into my room - patients that came in long after I did. When I asked her about that, while I was steaming because I saw her go from room to room to room and not coming to my room until everyone was all gone, she'd tell me she knew I would have questions for her and she wanted to be able to have time to answer them. I was never in there long. I always had my questions written down and she didn't take long answering them. It's not like she couldn't have seen me at my appointment time, rather than making me wait and wait and wait, while she strategically handled her patients to get the most out the door in the quickest amount of time. You may like that if you have no questions but because I had questions I had to wait the longest and be last? Ok, so there were several things I didn't care for but I'll just write about a couple and then the big one. Every time I had any question about what to do about something or any physical issues she ALWAYS gave me the same answer..."drink more water". I'd even tell my husband before she'd say it because I knew she would. That wasn't very comforting! Especially because I was drinking water so that wasn't the correct answer! The last day in the hospital after the birth of my son, she didn't even show-up to release me. I could not wait to change doctors before having my second baby. Every week during my first pregnancy, under Dr. Sikking's care, I told my husband I wanted to switch doctors but he thought it wasn't a good idea to switch mid-pregnancy and didn't support the decision. I am SO glad I changed doctors for my next baby and had a completely different, wonderful experience. I realize people have different criteria in what they are looking for in a dr but if something were to go wrong and you had to see how your doctor would handle a situation, you'd want to know up-front what you could expect. Another thing - with my 2nd pregnancy, my dr sent me to get some very important test that wasn't ordered by dr. S and definitely should have been - which I didn't know to ask for. So, now for THE reason it pains me to hear Dr. Sikking's name...after the birth of my son, I had VERY severe post-partum depression. I explain this experience as going to hell - and that's exactly what it was. This review is long enough so I'll leave out the details but I will say I can't imaging a worse experience - EVER. I couldn't sleep, eat, I couldn't stop crying for weeks. It was so mentally and emotionally painful. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I was lost. I didn't know what to do. I needed help so desperately! When I'd call Dr. Sikking, she wouldn't even take my call. I asked for her to call me back and explained why. She'd have her temporary medical assistant call me back to deliver the message "Dr. Sikking said to tell you to dig deeper"... Are you kidding? It's been six years and I will never forget that experience. Anyone who is thinking of going to her needs to be aware of this. I hope this never happens to anybody else and I really hope that this information has been useful. I don't write reviews. This is maybe the third one in my lifetime but I keep thinking how I would want to know and wish I would have had this information! By the way, Dr. Sikking told me while I was pregnant that people like myself, who struggle with anxiety, tend to get hit hard with PPD. I had no idea what that meant at the time. Used her for both of my kids births. She guessed the sex wrong for both at 12 weeks, which we still laugh about, but other than that, which is not necessarily a negative, she and her staff were awesome. I had both of my kids w/out meds. I loved that she never pushed me to do anything I did not want to do, and always gave strong/good advice and made sure I was comfortable. She was most amazing in the delivery room--for me, baby, AND my husband. read more

Dr. Sikking is certainly competent, but her big ego and sometimes callous attitude makes for better doctors on the Westside. Hope that you don't deliver your baby when she has dinner plans with her husband or has to pick up her kids from school or you'll be on your own. Can not say enough great things about Dr. Sikking! Her front office staff is fantastic and makes you feel comfortable as soon as you walk in the door. The doctor takes so much time to talk to you and was so kind and understanding. She also put me on a different bc pill (I had been on the same one for a long time when I used to go to a different doc.) Dr Sikking switched me to another and I haven't had a migraine since!
