Pedicure in Waipahu, Oahu, Hawaii... I saw a sign for $19.99 Pedicure (what a deal!) and walked into Ami's Nail Salon. I was the only client this afternoon while I was there on a week day. Located in the West Commercial Plaza, Ami's Nail Salon is a clean, typical Nail Salon with Pedicure chairs, Nail stations, and a private waxing room. The tight, free, shared parking lot might be the main obstacle because this plaza is on the busy side. Other businesses here include Nanding's Bakery, Fratelli Express, Chiropractic Clinic, and Diagnostic Laboratory Services. An elderly gentleman was my technician. He had a rather gruff demeanor. He would state commands such as, "Both feet up". He patted my feet like "stay here". However, I let him upgrade me to the $25 "Basic Pedicure" since he implied that the leg massage would be better. Haha! Overall, it was an ok experience. It wasn't the best because I have had better foot massages. There was none here. I had to turn the back massage feature on the chair myself, and I started looking through the nail color palettes on my own. Maybe I'll try the $19.99 deal next time. I called ahead for a walk-in pedicure before an upcoming trip, as I was in a bit of a time crunch. While I don't mind having a male technician, I was a bit surprised -- he wasn't rude, just very direct in his manner. That said, I was concerned about the overall sanitation standards in the salon. The space felt unclean: towels were worn and fraying, disposable tools like nail buffers and files appeared to be reused, and the chairs had visible dust and stains. The shop itself has a lot of potential -- it's charming, but definitely needs a deep cleaning and an updated sanitation protocol in line with what we're taught in esthetics school. It would also be great to see some younger staff who are more in touch with current trends and client expectations. I don't believe I'll be returning. Had a 3pm eyebrow tattoo appointment. Left $50 deposit. Went to my appointment on time and Tina was assisting another women. Waited 1/2 hour, she sees me, greeted me then takes another women when she knows I have a 3pm appointment. My daughter in the meantime had a $25 pedicure. No massage, no cutting. Needed a pedicure and noticed that Ami's Nail Salon offered. $19.99 Pedicure a big plus and I was intrigued. Made an appointment for myself and two of my favorite girls....of course my granddaughter. I figured it would be a fun thing to do with my girls. We were able to get an appointment for all of us all at the same time another plus. The salon was organized with all the polish in a nice row on the wall. For $19.99 you get a quick pedicure and regular polish. You don't need to go find your polish like most salons because they have each polish color on a sample stick like the gel polishes. It was a quick pedicure, but it did come with a pretty good massage another plus and my massage chair did an awesome job. The polish colors were pretty decent with up to date colors which was great and drying time was minimal. I like the way my toenails look after a professional paints my toes . All in all an A+ for Ami's Nail Salon especially if your on a tight budget. Bottom line no glitz's or glamor, but highly effective. The only downside is the parking. There is a lot of parking, but this is a very busy shopping center so lots of circling, but worth it for the price. Even more so that they have a special going on for $19.99...DOUBLE WIN! I always passed this complex, but never knew what it's called but now I do LOL...it's in the West Commercial Plaza, by Nanding's Bakery off Farrington Hwy. They were able to accomodate me at last minute. Made my appointment for around 4pm on a Saturday. There was only 1 other person there. My tech was good. I thought back and forth about leaving a review, but I felt I should give everyone a heads up. Everything felt unsanitary. From the massage chair to the foot soak to the tools used. I was going to do both mani and pedi. I initially asked for an acrylic extension with gel and powder. I didn't want acrylic over my entire nail bed and he said he doesn't do that and it has to go over entire nail. And that he's been doing nails over 20 years. I felt like I got scoldings before I sat down. Why I did sit idk, I guess I just wanted to give the place a try. I waited until the end of my pedi to cancel doing my nails and he was clearly upset. (I thought maybe he might be really good. )He said I should've told him.. he could've told the other people he had time. I apologized and I told him I'm allowed to change my mind. My mom and I were here for a spa day. We both had a gel mani and pedi done. I've read a lot of mixed reviews but we decided to give this place a try. Right off the bat the man was rushing my mom, basically yelling at her to choose a gel color. My mom asked if they were busy and he responded yes, yet we were the only 2 ppl in the salon until the end of our service. Most of their colors are not what they appear on the nail samples they give you when deciding a color. Upon application, my mom had bubbles and uneven coating that she expressed needed fixing and were fixed. We came back the next day because her manicure had already chipped on several nails. She got it fixed without charge but we requested someone other than the man do it. They were agreeable and a women fixed them without charge. I would not recommend having the guy do your nails, save your time and money. read more

Gel manicure and regular pedicure disappointment!!! Pro in all this: They took us on time for the reservation I made. (Idk if it's normal for them but shop was empty) Cons: My sister and I made an appointment here because the reviews were not bad kinda a hit or miss but I like to take my chances and am hopeful that I'd have a good experience. Unfortunately big mistake. There was an older man who did my sisters nails and she was not happy at all. He didn't ask her what she wanted besides the color. I don't have photos of her nails but they are lumpy, thick, and disturbing! I watched him paint her nails horizontally with the brush instead of a traditional vertical paint stroke. She definitely was upset that I chose this place. Will she ever go again? No. Did she tip? Yes. My experience was different. Not a good different either. I don't know my nail techs name but she was short, wore glasses, and on the older side. I specifically told her I get ingrown toenails so please do not cut them too short. She didn't listen and an hour later my toes were so sore because the pressure of my nail was cutting into my skin which I was trying to prevent!!! She wasn't all bad seemed like she wanted to be friendly but she just seemed almost lazy?! Like I was an inconvenience because I showed her a photo of a nail style/color I wanted. From the moment I got there she said "yes I can do it" once I sat down and she was getting ready she changed her mind to "it won't look exactly 100%" to "we don't do that here" (I got the photo inspo from their yelp page!!!) to "idk how to do that only the girl that used to work here knows" in my head I'm like great this isn't gonna end well... She decided to try it anyways. The nail prep was painful. She cut my skin all hamajang and so I was left bleeding around my cuticles. She had a spray bottle of alcohol that she sprayed 6 different times maybe even more on those tiny knicks which hurt so much I had to tell her to stop. The color I was going for was a purple holographic color. Tell me why she painted my nail BLACK and put chrome over it???? ‍‍‍ I told her forget it and to just paint it a solid color which annoyed her cause she was still trying to convince me that the black with chrome was practically the same as holographic. she left the black nail polish on and painted the rest of my nails with the new color. Before she seals it all with the clear coat she decided to remove the black gel with a dremel. The chrome powder and the black paint flew on to my other nails and without cleaning it off first, she decides to continue and finish the nails by adding the clear coat. I now have black specks and bumps in my nails. She was gonna leave left over black polish under my nail until I asked her to remove it. Her own nails were not maintained which should've been a sign. It had missing old polish or none at all with jagged nail tips which she kept scratching me with. She tried fixing the mistakes she made but in a very lazy attempt by scrubbing my nails with a nail filer and spraying with alcohol instead of just doing it right by removing that layer and repainting it. I was in there for over an hour and just wanted the torture to end already. I wanted to like this place but I would NOT come back and although I didn't want to tip her at all I still left something. She also blamed me saying I chose gel polish so that's why she had to cut my cuticle like that (all my years of doing nails whether regular polish or gel it was just a standard procedure to have my cuticles cut) but she butchered it. Then told me not to look to close to my nails so that I don't see the black specks! read more

Horrible service, bad attitudes and the nail techs need more training. I wanted to get my nails done before going to Nevada, and because I was in the area with time to stall, I decided to go there yesterday 01/04/2018 around 540PM to do an acrylic set which was priced at $20 and an additional $5 for coffin shaped nails. Normally I would go for gel but I was going to do my nail again in Nevada in about two weeks. After picking out my color the nail tech kept pushing for me to get gel, telling me it would only be $40 discount and save on the coffin nail shape. I asked how much was gel, she said $15 more. Then I asked how much was coffin and she said $5. Then I asked where the discount was if I pay $40 for gel coffin set because acrilic is $20? And then she apologized because she said last year's prices was $25 for acrilic set. I told her that I would stick with my acrilic set bcz I was only going to redo my nails when I go to Nevada for vacation. Then her attitude change. She was no longer smiling, wouldn't even look at me or talk to me at all and was even huffing while moving my fingers. So she got my set on and acrilic powder was set. She began to file and shape my nails and was really rough still not talking to me at all. She then told me to rinse my hands. I inspected the final shape and I kid you not my middle finger on my right hand was so skinny and small it was the size of my pinky finger and my left finger was the ideal size. I pointed that out to her and asked if she could fix that because it wasn't portioned right. She gave me a big hmph and grabbed my hand and cut off the nail. Then glued an acrylic over and set powder over it. I'm not sure if that's the proper procedure to fixing a nail but it didn't seem right. After reshaping the nail I inspected it again and it was not even at all because she did not file it. Once again I pointed that out to her and she said "I see" and grabbed my hand and added another layer of acrylic to try and even out the mountain that I still have. After "trying her best" I was instructed to was my hands. Then she told me to pay for the service and all I had to do was give the other lady my card and I can get my nails painted in the mean time. I was already hesitant because the other lady gave me the wrong price and her attitude the entire time so I didn't trust giving them my card. So I walked for my service that rang up $26 and some change. When I came back the lady started painting my nails and after the fourth finger she switched with another tech and went to have a conversation with another worker. So this nee lady was painting my nails painted my nails. After she was complete she instructed me to place my hands to dry. I inspected my nails and saw that one finger had dust on the nail and asked the tech to fix that. She said okay and re painted my nail. After it was fixed she placed my hand under the UV lamp and left me there, then her and the first tech left to go home while my hand was still drying. The beeper went off. And another tech came to check it it was dry and touched each nail. She said they were and I was all set to go. I inspected my nails once again and noticed that my thumb was not dry and because she touched it it was wrinkled. So I informed the tech and she fixed it. Placed me under the UV again for about 6 mins. After trying she inspected and said I could go but I can't ding my hand on anything or it would smudge. So I told her I'll just stay a little longer under the light to dry. After I felt confident that my nails we're dry I was finnaly able to leave the store at 720PM. I could not believe I was in that salon 20mins shy of two hours. The experience was not fun because of their attitudes, the amount of mistakes, I had 3 different nail techs and none of them were nice and two left before the job was even complete. I do not feel confident that my middle finger that was "fixed" would stay on and there is still that mountain. I hope the manager sees this and trys to fix things otherwise I will not recommend anyone to go there even for a quick set. read more

Had the worst experience ever here. Came with my husband and my girls when I first moved to Hawaii in late July, looking for a place to go consistently. The gentleman doing my nails was in a rush and did not remove all of the gel nail polish before applying regular clear nail polish, I had chunks of old nail polish underneath. Then the lady doing my daughter's nails asked me if my daughters had different fathers because one was lighter than the other. She even commented that she seemed to have Mexican features. I was totally offended that someone would even feel like such a conversation would be appropriate to have with a customer. Worst experience of my life today. I used to go Ami's until I stopped after a few bad experiences about a year ago. I'm a breast cancer patient and wanted to get a breast cancer awareness full set to treat myself and show support after my radiation appt. I don't know the males name but I clearly explained why I was there and what I wanted even showing pictures. As he was prepping my nails, he kept pressuring me to let him do something he suggested. I kept saying no but he kept pressing. I finally said fine as long as it's "pink...pink...and more pink". As he was doing my nails all I kept seeing was black. I kept telling him this doesn't look pink and he kept insisting it would once he was done. I kept complaining and he actually started arguing with me that it was pink. The other lady came over and started speaking to him in their language and I think she was trying to tell him it wasn't pink but he kept arguing. I finally just started crying as he was finishing up my nails because I was so distraught at this point. My one nail looked right and the rest looked like a Halloween nightmare. Basically black with some iridescent but certainly not the hot pink I asked for. The female knew I was upset and offered to have me come back tmw to add some pink but I will never go back. And to top it all off, all that extra stuff he did that I hated was an upcharge and I ended with a $125 bill (after the very gracious $10)discount I received for being horrified at my nails final results. Not the way I wanted to end my evening after an exhausting radiation appt. and definitely not the nails I wanted to show off for breast cancer awareness month. I have come to Ami's salon a couple of times before this time. In fact, I got my first pair of acrylic nails ever, from Ami's. This time, I called for an appointment and knew I wanted acrylic nails. After looking at pictures on Yelp, I wanted to get the "baby boomer" nails I saw in photos. When I got there and sat down, I told the woman what I wanted and it was almost as if they were mad at me for wanting the "baby boomer" nails. There were ants crawling around her mani station. She didn't remove my cuticles, nor file. I asked for a simple design which she couldn't even do. She thought chrome was glitter polish. She ended up asking the owner if they had silver, which then she replied they didn't have any. Today I got my nails done with two of my friends. The owner, I think it was the owner? Did a good job with my nails but it is not worth the price. My two friends both got acrylic nails. The acrylics are $20 and one of them got a design on two nails and the other one just got painted nails with no designs. My friend who received full painted black nails with designs on two fingers came out to be $38. On the other hand, my friend who just got her nails painted with no design had to pay a ridiculous price of almost $50. I came here to receive a full manicure and a design on two fingers. Keep in mind that the manicure starting price was $15. I had to pay $30 for nails that I could've easily painted at home. Overall, I would say go here if you just want to get plain acrylics for the cheap price of $20. Beware they charge an extra $5 for nail shape. Be sure to ask them about their prices because they may charge you more than you expect :). read more

This place is really affordable. It's not the fanciest nail salon I've been to, but the parking is free (though the stalls are very tight). It's in the same shopping center as Nanding's, so go get some Spanish rolls after your mani/pedi. ;) My pedicure was done by the Filipino female nail stylist. I didn't catch her name, but she was really nice and really took her time with the pedicure. The tools were all in a sketchy looking plastic cup, which made me kind of question how clean they were--but I stayed. The price for a gel manicure and regular pedicure was $45. It's $5 extra for a sea salt scrub with the pedicure, which I actually highly recommend felt amazing. I was impressed with the pedicure I got. I had my gel manicure with Ami, but it honestly felt rushed. My pedicure took about an hour, but the gel manicure took closer to about 25 minutes. It's not lasting as long as other gel manicures I've had, so even though it was a steal for the gel manicure being only $25, it might be worth it to go somewhere else if it's going to last longer. =/. I can push a quality gel manicure to 3 weeks, even with my frequent hand washing. This gel mani only lasted a little over 1 week before it started lifting at the base and chipping. It was not a neat job, and my nails weren't even cut and filed evenly... Poor prep work. Better to pay $30 for a manicure that lasts 3 weeks than $25 for one that only lasts a week and a half. read more
