Wow-what a change and not for the better Definitely downhill from the previous owners. Received tickets for a performance in the Round Barn Theatre and the buffet was an included. The buffet was a joke. Food was bland, over cooked and luke warm at best. Not much of a selection either: mashed potatoes-NO GRAVY!, green beans, Mac & Cheese, Pasta Alfredo, pulled pork and fried chicken. A side salad and roll was brought to the table. Salad was OK the rolls were hard. To be fair the pulled pork was the highlight of the meal. The chicken was so dry and over cooked; even the two adjacent tables we could hear them complain to the staff. Oh and dessert-not included. You'd think for $35+ dessert would be included Our waitress was apologetic but nothing she could do to make the situation better. She did comment how business was slow and I can see why. Definitely will not return to eat but would visit the RBT again as the play was the highlight of the evening. read more

Coolest place I visited while in Indiana! I took a tour of the Amish Acres and got to see how the Amish live and learned about their history! Walked through all there cute shops and bought some chocolate, beef jerky, jams and cheese for the road. They have there own sweet shop where they make fresh fudge, meat shop with their own beef jerky and freshly made cheeses, a variety of jams and jellies. I saw an Amish fellow transporting some individuals in his wagon/buggy and a peacock just wondering around the parking lot. I was very happy with my experience! read more

We travel quite infrequently through northern Indiana, but when we do my wife generally has us seek out an Amish style restaurant. The grounds for Amish Acres are spot on for creating a great atmosphere. Aside from the restaurant, there are little shops and a building offering theater productions. The area around the buildings are nicely lit with holiday style lights in the evening and it just creates a nice ambiance about the place. The restaurant itself has a nice country store and the building has been nicely refurbished into the restaurant that it is. The appearance is about the end of the line for the Amish appeal. The staff are unlike anyone from the Amish communities I've previously interacted with. It seemed more like a few regular folks putting on somewhat rustic clothing. The wait staff (at least ours) certainly didn't talk as if they were Amish. The food is family style and is indeed all you can eat. They bring you small servings and you just need to keep getting refills until satisfied. We went with the chicken and ham combo. The ham was very thinly sliced and not the thick tender pieces I was hoping for. The fried chicken was just meh... The pricing was reasonable. The gift shop is great. I'm from CA so I got some cute souvenirs to take back. The wagon ride, carriage ride and house tour are a must. Fun to learn about Amish people and the way they live their lives. The restaurant was fabulous. Esther our waitress was super sweet, friendly and very knowledgeable. We loved everything we ordered. There happened to be a small car show outside. The theatre house we have to come back and see. They actually have live plays and you can do dinner/play combos. A definite must see! read more

5-14-21 This place has New Owners now and the place is called The Barns instead of Amish Acres. Don't expect the same food that Amish Acres had. The Threshers Dinner is no longer ALL YOU CAN EAT (Except on Friday 4-8 pm, all day Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm) which will be a Negative for a lot of people considering it costs $19.95 per meal and the portion size is small for the money. Just don't come on Friday between 11am-4pm like we did. The staff was friendly and polite so that was a was a plus. The Barns is very accommodating for people like me that are Vegans / Vegetarians. They replaced the ham soup with Tomato Bisque which had an excellent taste but the soup was barely warm. It definitely was not hot like it should of been. The meat was replaced with a veggie bean patty. The noodles with beef was replaced with Macaroni (My friend said there was hardly any beef with his noodles). They also gave me small whole carrots and whole string beans. The string beans where hard and crunchy which I don't care for. The stuffing had a good taste. None of the food was hot as all of it was warm to cold. I told my waitress the food was cold to slightly warm as she said OHhh. The waitress should of offered to take the food back but she didn't. I should of been more persistent. Also when we came here we thought the Thresher meal was all you can eat but the person on the phone didn't tell us that the All you can eat isn't until Friday 4pm to 8pm. We came between the hours of 11am to 4pm so we missed the Buffet. You also don't get a free dessert with the meal as that will cost you an extra $3.50 per slice. The drink is included with the meal at no extra cost. If you want extra bread before 4pm it will cost you $2.00 dollars. The only time you get the free dessert is on Sunday on there Brunch Buffet between 10am to 2pm. We also miss the pickles that Amish Actress had. I was able to talk to one of the owners. He was pleasant and listened to my complaints and suggestions. He ended up walking back into the restaurant and talking to the waitress and whoever else about our complaints like the cold and very mild warm food. The owner didn't offer us any thing for our cold food. Not sure I'll be back any time soon as I can go to other places a heck of a lot cheaper and I guarantee the food is hot. The food had a good taste for what we got for $19.95 but my biggest complaint was the waitress and two other people we spoke to there did nothing to rectify the cold food. Most restaurants I've ever gone to are eager to fix the problem but not this place. If the waitress would of fixed the cold food the stars would be 4-5. I hope the restaurant is successful but they need to listen to there customers. I hope the all you can eat buffet will have more food suited to the Vegans and Vegetarians out there. read more

We've been here before many times with great experiences but today for Easter brunch we quickly realized things were much different with new ownership. There was clear difficulty in keeping enough food out even though the place wasn't even close to full like I've seen it before. Certain food items weren't replaced after running out so never had the option of trying them. The desserts were dry and lackluster, a mix of bread and scones with a fluffy raspberry dessert that was pretty enough to look at but not really Amish style at all. There was no pie which is always something we look forward to for brunch at Amish Acres. The food in general was mediocre with the best being the pot roast. Probably won't be wasting $26 per person on the buffet again. read more

Unfortunately, I think the low ratings for "The Barns" is from before the opening of the new FarmTable Restaurant. Totally underrated! We most recently had brunch here and were again pleasantly surprised. Of course no good brunch starts without mimosas and they were very accommodating to get us ours. Large glass of OJ and a bottle of bubbly from their in house winery The Vines. I had the chicken and waffles because I'm a sucker for fried chicken. I also sampled the chop salad and farm burger which I would have been happy to have for my own. Try it out! Just know the ratings don't do it justice in my opinion. read more

Cool tour of an Amish farm and it's near Rentown a small Amish general store, furniture, and Amish restaurant. The Amish restaurant closes super early like 2PM. The Barns are ok, pretty chill but it is moreso a piece of historical history of Amish craftsmanship, and it's not really owned by Amish at all anymore. We purchased tickets for the breakfast with Santa event. The management decided to leave the line of children waiting to see Santa outside in the cold until exactly 9:00 for an event that was scheduled from 9:00-11:00 am. We waited for 20 minutes to be seated only to find that the management had decided to use first names to seat people. So they seated another Sarah in our place (group of 3) and seated the seven of us (4 adults and 3 kids) at the end of another family's table (attempting to squeeze the seven of us into four seats by smashing in extra folding chairs. After they realized that it would not work, they seated us at the other end of the restaurant away from everyone else at the event. We decided to make the best of it and went up to the buffet. It was skimpier than a budget hotel breakfast! AND THE FOOD WAS COLDDDDDD! We attempted to get coffee and were directed to the paid coffee bar in the lobby. What a joke! The manager was incredibly rude when we expressed our dissatisfaction and told us that it wasn't her problem because she only received the final list yesterday and there were multiple Sarahs. She said we could eat the cold food or not and see their very fake and terrible Santa or leave. She didn't care. When we told her that it was a hot mess she said that she felt like she did a really good job. We informed her that she was wrong and left. We walked out on a $200 breakfast and drove 35 minutes to Christos in Plymouth!!! I would NEVER RECOMMEND THIS FACILITY FOR ANYTHING! Another nice restaurant in Amish country. The food was very reasonably priced and you could easily ask for seconds. The waitress was a little overwhelmed with too many tables, but that is a management issue. The restaurant has lots of convenient parking nearby. It also overlooks a beautiful green park like area, so be sure and sit near a window for a nice view. The butter topped mashed potatoes were delicious! The lemonade was cold and tasty. I enjoyed this meal. The tables are very close together, so you might want to ask to be seated a little distance from the other diners. read more

I ordered a ribeye, it was only about 1/2" thick and tasted like it was cooked over gas, and at market price, $50+ wasn't even close to being worth it. The vegetable was an over cooked broccoli. The salad was OK but where do you get a steak without a potato? There was nothing worth noting as far as the decor either, it was basically a room within a room. The service was great, they were understaffed, but who isn't these days? If you're going to Nappanee there are much better restaurants to visit. read more

Very poor experience. The food in no way reflects Amish culture or Midwestern farm. Food was tepid. Stuffing was spiced and salty to the point of being inedible. After we were almost finished, the waitress came and asked how we liked the food. We told her it was cold and tasted so so. She said we should have let her know so she could have it warmed. When were we supposed to do that? She served the food and didn't return until she was checking on dessert. By the way, on a Thursday evening around 6 pm, they were out of two of the four pie varieties. We ended up with cheese cake. Menu shows meal includes dinner rolls. None were served. Meat loaf and brisket were served with a massive quantity of barbecue sauce. Three waitresses served four tables. There were no more than 15 people in the restaurant. Service was poor. read more

Wow wow and wow for what the new owners have done with the Restaurant at "The Barns" previously known as Amish Acres. My Dad and I ate lunch here a while back and it was good, I don't think I yelped because it was brand new at the time and I think everyone needs a chance to work out the kinks (not the there were any my first visit). We decided to return to try the Brunch buffet. Plenty of food, plenty of fresh fruit and salad, and plenty (probably too much!! Lol) of everything else. The breakfast choices were good, sausage was fantastic, bacon was a smoky flavored delight, and the French toast had nuts and raisins and was the best buffet French toast I ever had. The gravy for the biscuits and gravy was good, but they need to work on the biscuits, they were dried up dust. (Thank goodness for the gravy!). Everything on the lunch side was very tasty. I sampled the ham and prime rib, I did not try the fried chicken or Tuscany? Chicken breasts. The ham was juicy and tender, with great flavor. The prime rib tasted great, but to be honest I had the rare selection, and it was very tough to chew. Still not a deal breaker for me on this great buffet. Over on the "Snack side they had avocado toast that was AWESOME! They also offered fresh (DELICIOUS) fruit, home made pies, cookies and pastries. They also had alcohol options but I did not try them. Very affordable family style dinner.. what was unique compared to other places is the great concept of small portions. This helps to cut down on waste and keeps prices low. They will bring refills out very quickly even when the place is jammed. The soup is served piping hot, the pickles are too sweet, Slaw very flavorful. All the food is cooked to perfection. I have been to much much better Amish places, but this one is worth the price. The good part is you choose when to eat if going to the play, so you have time to relax in the picturesque countryside. So, many place shuffle you from dinner right to play.(not enjoyable when they put you on their schedule) The "Plain and Fancy"--- was a very enjoyable performance. We visited for the first time Friday, Oct 15. Te menus to choose from, family style and steak house menu. We chose steak house. The food was delicious. The presentation was remarkable. Main dishes come with choice of 2 types of salads (huge portions) or soup, and two sides. The loaded potatoes skins as appetizer was to die for. They were a little short staffed, as is every restaurant in our area. Meal took a little longer to be served, but we were with good company and didn't mind. The staff was most accommodating, attentive, and friendly. Esther makes the pies and breads. I encourage you to try the peanut butter crème and also the raspberry crème. If you're too full (which is very likely!) get a slice to go. 45 minutes drive from our home, but certainly will be added to our list of go-to restaurants. read more

I went to Amish Acres on Good Friday. I was surprised (& glad) to see that it was open. I wandered in and out of the few shops; turns out that you cannot wander around the grounds any further without a ticket. As others have mentioned, it's not an authentic Amish area, but rather, a re-creation. I have visited many real Amish areas, so I didn't bother getting tour tickets, as I figured they wouldn't tell me anything new. After a while, I was ready for lunch. I asked the girl at the desk if it was a buffet or menu, and she said it was a menu, which was perfect. She also said they were "very busy" and that it would be a 10-15 minute wait. I peaked at the restaurant area, and there were not many people there, so I didn't know what she was talking about. After 10 minutes or so, people started to leave, so I figured I'd be seated. Nope, it was about 45 minutes before she got back to me and the family that was also waiting. Apparently, this one person was in charge of seating people in the restaurant AND getting carry-out dinner orders for people. And she was MUCH more concerned with taking care of the catering customers than those of us who were waiting to eat. I nearly walked out. In fact, I started to walk toward the restaurant as I didn't want a repeat of the night before when a buffet had closed shortly after I was seated, and she said sternly, "I will be with you shortly, ma'am." I said that it had already been an awfully long time and she offered a half-hearted apology about not knowing it was going to be so busy. Finally, after waiting for so long, I was seated. I ordered the turkey and Swiss cheese panini. It came with the most wonderful cranberry compote. Although, contrary to what the menu described, it was more like turkey lunch meat than freshly sliced turkey. I also had iced tea, which was rather cloudy so I didn't have high hopes for it, but it was actually delicious. All in all, I was pleased with my lunch, but at $14 for a sandwich and ice tea, with no sides other than the cranberry sauce, it was rather expensive. And Amish Acres itself isn't really worth a special trip. read more

We had a party of 11. Wait time was reasonable, however to our dismay it was not due to limited seats. Food came quickly, was delicious and tasty, enjoyed by all. We got the chicken and ham. The service was slow, we had to wait for refills on drinks and didn't receive the refill on bread that was requested, nor were we asked if we wanted seconds on anything. We did speak to the hostess and received 10% discount which was appreciated. I would recommend anyone to eat here. *I was a little disappointed in the fact you can not take left over food. It seems like such a waste. We didn't ask for seconds, which I could understand not being able to take home, however it was a LOT of food wasted from the initial serving. As a restaurant and visit, Amish Acres is a nice place. However, we had our wedding here and we ran across many issues with management. Our DJ was told to turn his music down (it's wasn't that loud), because there were other guests eating. I would recommend that the management tell dining guests that their was a wedding because we paid A LOT of money to be told we can't have the music turned on. My niece and I visited for two reasons-Amish homestyle lunch food and the dinner theater. Let's start with the lunch. We read a few reviews and decided this sounded like a great place EXCEPT we didn't realize it wasn't authentic. It's sort of like being told you're going to an authentic mexican restaurant and ending up at Taco Bell. It's good but not what you're expecting and not authentic. Anyway, the waitress was in an Amish Dress yet had tattoos and tons of make up on. She then proceeded to tell us we couldn't take home any left overs. REALLY? Now let's move on with the dinner theater. This is not what is appears. Dinner was 2 hours prior to the play (Plain and Fancy). No where on anything did it say this. The manager said it was in our email confirmation. Once he was proven wrong, he said it was on their website when you check out. Wrong again. We did a "fake" purchase of tickets for him to realize we were right and the website didn't say anything about it. Even though the website says no refunds or exchanges, we did get the money back since they failed to provide us with the proper information and correct times. The play was supposed to be family friendly. Absolutely not. Making fun of people (the play made fun of the Amish), parading in under clothes and cussing is not family friendly. The young girl in the play yawned through 90% of the her role which should not have happened to make it seem realistic. read more

What a wonderful historical farm!!! Really enjoyed the atmosphere with the wish riding on bicycles and horse and buggies. The farm is beautiful with the cutest gift shop and delicious fudge. The steakhouse made an accommodation for us as we were not taking the stairs. They served a quality delicious meal even though we were on the wrong floor. Deb who seated us, Haden who is providing a golf cart to the theatre and Amanda our server all went above and beyond to give us a great dining experience. While any establishment can suffer from a poor night of service, I have never been to a place with poorer attitude towards their customers and more incompetent staff. First our reservation (which was scheduled days in advance) did not apparently allow the staff to think of having the table ready to go for when we arrived. After waiting 15 minutes and having another large party seated who arrived after us, we spoke up. We were promptly helped... 10 minutes later. When it came to the food, it was okay, but certainly not worth the $20.00 price tag. It also took 15 minutes for even the first course to arrive. While this might be okay during a dinner rush, there was only one other party of 10 in the dining room. A further issue arose when they brought the meat plates and we discovered that they did not bring enough for everyone to have chicken (the meat they brag about being so good. It took another 10 minutes and running across the restaurant to track down a server. When the server was confronted, she looked flabbergasted that someone would be upset with the service. Finally when we asked for the dessert to go, it took them three tries for them to get the right amount of desserts out to the table. Long story short- Deplorable service, average food, and incompetent staff. Would not recommend. read more

This was our first visit since the facility had changed hands. The only decent part of the visit was our nice waitress. We had looked at the menu online and everything seemed similar to what Amish Acres had offered, with some new additional dishes. For a Saturday, the restaurant was pretty empty. We both ordered the family style (with covid restrictions). We both had the broasted chicken, which was just okay. I had meatloaf and my husband had the brisket, both of which were covered in bbq sauce to the point everything on the plate was covered in it. Also, the beef and noodles were on the same plate so everything became disgustingly soggy. The potato soup was very runny and overly salty (I add salt to everything and this was too much for me to handle.). Green beans were basically raw with no seasoning, other than bbq. And everything was barely lukewarm. Neither of us ate anything other than some of the chicken and mashed potatoes, which were also covered in bbq sauce. The waitress asked how we liked the food and we told her that it was not as expected. The manager discounted 10% off of our meal so the bill was still $60 for 2 plates of uneaten food. (Wouldn't even think of taking home and feeding the leftovers to the dogs as they don't care for bbq. LOL) Go to KFC for fried chicken and save yourself $60. read more

The Threshers dinner at the Restaurant Barn at Amish Acres is pretty darn good. Our server Thursday night was a lovely woman in period dress who was very knowledgeable about the food. The food was delicious. Our service was great. The food was satisfying, filling and definitely up to its name "Threshers Dinner" Those threshers would have worked up a big appetite and this would have been perfect for them. The pickles are sweet and crispy. The dessert tray had much to choose from. The broasted chicken and the roast beef (huge juicy flavorful hunks) were our choices of the six offered - they were so good! The sage dressing - mmmmm!!! Let me begin this review by saying I'm from Southeast Texas, visiting this area due to RV repairs at Thor. With that being said we are accustomed to flavorful cuisine. We dined here on a Sunday, so it was buffet only, which we were not thrilled, but stayed anyway. We did not have a wait, but when we were seated it was at a table next to a bin full of dirty dishes left by the busboy, when my husband pointed this out to the hostess she move the Bon a few inches behind him, so we requested another table with a better view was the excuse we used. Well the next table had a dirty dish rag in the window sill, which hubby called it to the attention of the busboy. The roast beef was tender, but other than that the food was at best mediocre.
