I left the good Dentists practice a while ago. I've been going to the dentist every 6 months since I was a child. it seems like every time I went to this particular office I was told I needed a crown or two or some fairly big issue. once I agreed to a floride treatment and when billed it was 3x more than the quote. when I asked why suddenly after all these years, I need all these crowns etc whenever I had a visit I was told "you have old teeth." finally a different dentist was recommended. I've been going there for a ahile nd my teeth are suddenly good again. I trust my new dentist and so does everyone else. Take care in all your endeavors. read more

The dentist are great!! But........ The Billing Department is not. They charged me for a Bridge and 8 months later I get a bill saying I owe an additional $400. I set up a payment plan reluctantly because when I got the bridge everything should have been approved through my insurance and I feel like they were up charging me. Here we are 2 years later and they said they didn't take enough from my payment plan and I still owe them $61. Needless to say My family and I are going elsewhere, this is ridiculous and I see other reviews had the same problem. We are done with Patuxent Dental. I started doubting their diagnosis years ago. They told me my kid needed a cavity filled. They brought her in and never even numbed her up, because the "cavity" was so small. They scraped for a few seconds, "filled" something and sent her out of the room within 5 minutes. STILL charged us full price for a cavity! Now a couple years later she has a cavity in the exact same spot! I filled out the treatment plan and made an appointment for her. She drove herself, but they wouldn't see her because I wasn't there to sign a form declaring she doesn't have a cough! Really?! She's 16, why can't she tell you she doesn't have a cough?? I'm annoyed and drive there to sign the form. When I make a comment about it being a useless form the front desk woman gets all pissy and threatens to cancel our appointment. Go ahead.... And cancel all of our family's appointments! Way too many dentists in town to put up with their bologna! read more

I went here with excellent dental insurance. I have not had a cavity in 7 years. I then came to Patuxent dental from a chipped filling. The doctor said I needed a crown (my first) and needed 3 other fillings. I agreed because my insurance paid for 100% of it. Literally, 9 months later, I still can not eat on the left side of my mouth. I was in horrible pain. I must have went by 6 or 7 times begging to have it fixed. The doctor, (they never had a second doctor look at it) said that nothing is wrong with it thought that wearing a retainer at night would help. I then went to tidewater dental because they are open on saturdays. This way, I can stop using all of my vacation time to get nothing done. Tidewater dental found the problem with the tooth in about 8 seconds. They also fixed one of the fillings that Patuxent dental did that had fallen out twice before since I originally went in 9 months ago. Before I got the crown fixed, tidewater gave me paperwork showing and telling Patuxent dental what they did wrong when giving me the crown. They recommended that I go back to Patuxent dental and have them fix it for free because they used up all of my insurance money ($1476 out of $1500) Once I told Patuxent dental and showed them what is wrong with it, the same doctor told me that nothing was wrong with it and they even tried to bill me for the 2 minute exam. (They had told me over the phone it would be free to fix a crown beforehand. Later they said it had to have broke/cracked. They never mentioned installing it wrong wasn't covered) I went back to tidewater on a Saturday, of course, Patuxent dental isn't stealing anymore of my vacation work days, and had my crown fixed. I can eat again! Yay! I went back to Patuxent dental to ask for the $780 I had to pay for the new crown. They gave me half. When calculating my work vacation days, insurance, overtime missed, and co-pays... I estimate I paid $2,000 for my 2 fillings. For proof, email me, I will send you photos of the teeth, what tidewater told Patuxent dental what was wrong, and the bills. I can't figure out how to post pictures on yelp. I'm new to this. Their receptionist and billing people are extremely nice and competent. They are doing well there. I seem to have a negative opinion of the manager though. read more

WORST OFFICE MANAGER EVER! Do yourself a favor and run far away from this office. THEY DO NOT VALUE THEIR PATIENTS especially patients that have United Concordia (Active Duty Dental Insurance). I went to Dr. Khanna's office for my routine cleaning. The hygienist said that I was due for my X-rays which were completed at my visit. Two weeks later I get a bill saying that I was responsible to pay for my X-rays because I was ineligible for the X-rays that were due when I went in for my cleaning. Patuxent Dental charged my insurance $28.39 but when my insurance denied the claim they doubled the charge to me so I now owed $66.59. I called Patuxent dental and spoke to Amy about the issue. She said that I owed the $66.59 and that was it. I asked to speak to the Tami, the "office manager" and politely said that I was unaware that I was ineligible for my x-rays at the time of my visit and did what the hygienist said that I needed to do. I said that it would be good practice for the hygienist to ask if patients have had services elsewhere before they provide a service without any choice or knowledge from the patient. I have always been a kind person and believe in treating people with respect and decency. I never raised my voice, got an attitude, denied to pay the bill, or said anything other that what my issue was with the bill. Tami was the rudest and nastiest person I have ever had to deal with. She cut me off numerous times and said "I am not going to argue with you, just let me know where you would like your records sent". I did not ask to have my records sent anywhere. This office then sent me a "Dismissal Letter" the following day basically stating that I am not welcome at their location unless it is an emergency. I did absolutely NOTHING to deserve this treatment other than question my bill. Dr. Khanna may be a very good dentist (I have only had to get cleanings) but his office manager is awful and will run all of his patients away. If he allows his office and patients to be treated this way, then this business is not worth any of your hard-earned money. This office literally dismissed me as a patient due to a $28.39 "discussion" and my suggestion to ask patients questions before services are rendered. I asked to have Dr. Khanna call me on Wednesday 2MAY2018 but have yet to hear from the dentist. read more

Wonderful, wonderful place. Just moved to the area about a month ago, and this is the first dentist I found doing a google search for dentists in the area. I walked in to an absolutely beautiful waiting room (and building!), and was welcomed with a warm smile and a 'good morning!' I filled out my paperwork, and was still back to the chair within 5 minutes of my appointment time. There was no waiting afterward, either. I sat right down in the chair, got straight to x-rays, cleaning, and a routine exam. They did their work quickly and expertly, and all employees (including Doc) were extremely friendly, and had quick answers to all my questions. They do not use the silver filling product, as was the norm in the 80s and 90s, so you might want to make sure your insurance covers the white, tooth colored, filling product. If it doesn't, the bill is a bit higher, but it's worth it to not have a cavity filled with bright silver! Even if your insurance doesn't cover the white filling material, the bill is still very, very reasonable. This is not a laser dentist, he still uses the drill - so if you don't like the drill, you'll need to go elsewhere. Honestly, though, the drill is worth the level of service you recieve here. They make you feel like family, and the entire experience was very comfortable, which is rare considering it IS a dentist! read more

I called them today to see about getting an emergency appointment as a tooth was giving me quite a deal of pain. They quickly made arrangements to have me seen. I was seen right on time for my appointment. My hygienist is always friendly, professional, and very gentle when cleaning my teeth. The reception area and exam areas are always clean and organized. My dentist took his time during my exam and made sure I had no questions; I like having a personal interaction rather than being rushed along. Check-out was fast and I was on my way with clean teeth, reasonably priced fluoride treatment and my next appointment scheduled. read more

I came to Patuxent Dental last week after being disappointed with the dentist office I'd been going to for over a decade and needing multiple crowns. I've had a good bit of dental work over my life and by far this was the best experience I have ever had. The entire experience from consultation to having 3 crowns and 2 fillings was so easy and best of all pain free! The front office, hygienist, assistants, and Dr. Khanna were all fantastic. One of the crowns replaced was a front tooth and it was a perfect match - and all done in 2 hrs in office!! I hardly got to read my book I was out of there so fast. read more

I have never been made to feel like a worthless baby, as I was at this dental office by Dr. Khanna. I was having excruciating tooth pain when I came in to see Dr. Khanna. They did an xray and found that my root canal that I had done a few years back,(not by his office) failed and was now inflamed and infected. Dr.Khanna had no type of bedside manor what so ever. I felt like I was totally in the way and that he had better things to do. I was in tears anyway due to the pain and he had absolutely no compassion. When I asked for an excuses for work for ONE DAY, I was told that Dr. Khanna stated that they do not excuse anyone from work. The pain was a medical problem so I would need to see my doctor.??????????? He just saw me because of the pain and infection, and treated me for pain and infection, but it is a MEDICAL PROBLEM?????? Don't waste your time here, If you want a dentist with a good bedside manor that treats every visit equally then don't go see Dr. Khanna. I guess my visit didn't give him enough money in his pocket. I had gone to 3 other local dentists in St. Mary's County and each one had made me more and more scared and wary of dentists. Due to a dental scare, I was directed to Dr.Khanna's office by a coworker, and they were able to get me in the same day. Upon being called back, I was instantly put at ease by my dental hygienist Sarah. She put all my fears to rest and was very thorough in describing what was going on and why. After my visit, I was given instruction as to what to do to keep up with my teeth health and a care plan for future dental work. They were able to give me price estimates pertaining to my insurance as well. I am extremely happy with their service and would recommend them to anyone! read more

Dr. Khanna and his staff are wonderful and I would give them my highest recommendation. I have never had to wait more than a minute in the waiting room (I'm not exaggerating!). I have always had the very best care here and no problems after leaving any appointment. Our family has had everything done at this office from regular cleanings to root canals to our 2 year old's first dentist appointment and we had only good experiences at Dr. Khanna's office. I had a similar negative experience with the billing department and received ZERO support from the office or office manager. This despite being a regular customer of this practice for numerous years with absolutely ZERO missed or late payments. This particular incident of OOPS we made a mistake in your billing and we are now informing you that you owe us more, could have been resolved very easily since the amount was really rather small. However, no sufficient explanations, no apology and no relief of these charges was ever extended. Based more on principle than the amount of the additional charges, I decided to acquire a copy of my dental records and vowed to never set foot in that office again. I also vowed to never do business with any other dental practice that has any business partnership or connections to this office (think referrals this office would recommend for specialty dental work). I am a new patient, I had an exam with Dr. Marij. I have never had such a wonderful experience at a dentist before. She is not only extremely knowledgeable, professional and punctual. Dr. Marij has the best personality. I felt as if I'd been her patient for years. She's kind, welcoming and informative. If you aren't thrilled about going to the dentist like myself, Dr. Marij will change your mind. I actually look forward to seeing her again in the future. Her assistants Roxy and Tammy were great to. I had my teeth deep cleaned with Sarah as well. It had been awhile and I was way overdue. Sarah is so warm and gentle. Even tho I was having more then just a routine cleaning I barley felt a thing. Sarah really explained every step. I felt I knew exactly what was happening at all times. Sarah also has a great personality, she's extremely easy to talk to. I go back soon, and I'm actually excited! Have you ever been able to say that? The front desk staff is great too. From my first phone call to handling my billing process they are awesome! They are personable and really listen to everything. I felt upon leaving I know exactly what to expect. They really care about you, and that's something you can't fake. Save yourself and run, find a dental office that will not lie and tell you your accurate out of pocket quote that comes from your insurance company. It started with me trying them out in early 2016, with my yearly cleaning and exam, which went great, I was told I needed two cavities filled and out of pocket it would be $375, so I declined as there was no way I was paying that much and my teeth felt fine. My husband than went in for his yearly cleaning and exam and was told he needed multiple things done and it would be $480 out of pocket, which he agreed and he had the work done paid and off he went. Over a year later went by and I needed a cleaning again so I called to schedule that and inquire that we had a secondary insurance company as well that I would like to know what I would need to pay out of pocket with that one as well for the prior cavities they said I had. I got a call back a couple hours later and I was told it would be $85.50 out of pocket. I said great I could live with that and scheduled it all for the same day in January 2017. As I was checking out I was asked if I would be paying my husband's balance, I figured maybe it was just a copay or something silly, as surely it had been over a year and he paid the $480 in full. I was then told his balance was still $405!!!!!! I thought that is outrageous as my husband would have NEVER paid, almost $900 out of pocket for any of that work, and I explained that had to be a mistake as we already paid his $480 LAST YEAR when he had the work done and we NEVER received anything more from them via mail or any phone calls. So I said no, I would speak to my husband and I was paying my $85.50. I paid and left. A few weeks later I got a letter in the mail saying I owed an additional $237 from my most recent visit!!!!!!!! I spoke with my insurance company and they informed me that they spoke with them and they knew what I/WE would have had to pay in total out of pocket and they are supposed to print that total in black and white. Well, that was nowhere near the totals they informed of us or printed! So now they are saying our account has a balance of $642. The only help they offered was to pay 10%, as if it was this crazy good deal and that I should be thankful they were even offering 10%, all I thought and said was "seriously?? 10% you do realize we're talking about all of $64 that you are willing to help to rectify this". So they said yes "10%" was it, so she kept saying 'you don't want us to note your account that we will pay "10%"' and I of course said they must be crazy because they told us completely different out of pocket costs yet they only want to cover $64; we had been willing to settle and pay a much less astronomical price and requested I speak with Dr. Khanna (whom never called me) and requested Dr. Khanna review our account as well and see about accepting a reasonable agreed amount and that he could write of the other amount (I have seen from other experiences where Dr's constantly wrote off all sorts of patient cases, so I thought it would be a reasonable request. The end result, they told me it was completely the insurance company's fault, and that I am not the first client this has happened too, that it in fact has happened to many of their clients and they will absolutely not accept anything lower than the (undisclosed remaining) full amount.. I feel sorry for all of the other clients this has also happened too as Dr. Khanna's office should absolutely know how to properly provide reasonably accurate quotes or off by low dollar amounts and not hundred's of dollar amounts. read more

I had no wish to, and I won't, debate this further but I feel I must respond to Dr. Khanna's response. Notice first that 90% of his response is selling himself, i.e. marketing. Second, I in no manner treated him "badly" other than, I suppose, politely questioning the three different diagnoses and respectfully asking that he help me sort it out. The "free" consultation he mentions was as a result of my dissatisfaction with the initial diagnosis of the Friday fill-in dentist, the diagnosis which Dr. Khanna did in fact contradict. I have nothing to sell, nothing to gain ... my review is factual, non prejudicial and spot on accurate. Notice that none of the facts were disputed, he only attempted to sell himself and to disparage my character, i.e. the three different and contradicting diagnoses were my fault ... which, I guess, is why he couldn't find anything in or about me to "love". I don't need a dentist or doctor to love me, in fact I would find that to be a bit creepy, but I do need them to truly care for me as a patient, to be accurate in their diagnoses and to be understanding with a patient who has had a previous terribly bad experience. Also, he fired me via a letter which would in no way be considered "politely". read more
