Not sure what is going on with this facility, but they will set appointments for you without your consent. I had to cancel appointments repeatedly that I explained I would NEVER set because they were not on my regularly scheduled day off, and that I would never be able to show up for them. I ALWAYS tell the staff that I will call to make an appointment. Then I get surprise text messages saying that I have an appointment on a certain day, that I then have to call and cancel. They dismissed my son for missed appointments, that they themselves scheduled!!!!!! Ridiculous. read more

My wife and I had been bringing our daughter to Smile Castle for a number of years and we never had a problem until this last cleaning. We knew going in that my daughter was no longer covered by the state dental insurance but based on several other dental visits in the area we thought her out of pocket cost for a cleaning would be roughly $120-150. Without x-rays and only a cleaning and a flouride treatment the receptionist told us it would be $274. I asked her to explain how their service would be so much more than other providers and she said that was the price they charge. I pointed out a brochure for an insurance plan they have on display that costs less than what they are charging and she repeated that $274 was their charge for today. I asked to see the office manager who parroted the same thing as the receptionist and I additionally pointed out that most businesses will try to work with clients that pay out of pocket because the business has to pay for medical billing and then have to wait weeks to months before they get paid. Still didn't move the needle. We'd been going to Smile Castle for years and there was no attempt to work with us. I won't be going back and I think they fail to realize how insulting it is to nearly double the cost of other dental services in the area. read more

They won't call you back on time ever. I have came in early and waited past our arrival time. I have came on time and waited past my arrival time. Don't make plans afterwards bc u won't make it. The staff have straight up lied to my face about receiving paperwork I know was sent because I was on the phone with THEIR staff when my kids orthodontist sent it. I was told they received it while on the call. I come in and they tell me they never got it that my orthodontist never sent it. One thing I can not stand is a company pushing off responsibility. Not once have I come in here and had a pleasant interaction. Sarcastic kindness. Be careful in here. They will pull the wool over your eyes. Side not I came in today with a positive attitude and it was killed waiting 20 minutes after our arrival time. read more

We were slated to have my 1.5 year-old have her first dental appointment elsewhere, but when I went to check out the office of the other dentist, it just didn't feel 'right'. Her daycare staff all recommended Smile Castle, so I made an appointment and I'm SO GLAD I did. The dentist and assistants were super patient with my fearful toddler. They sang with her and let her stay on my lap and just laying on a little surf board thing to check out her mouth, so it helped keep her less stressed. My son has had awful experiences in the past at non-pediatric dentists. When we moved here, Smile Castle helped to re-do a filling and then also an abscess and tooth abstraction. The abstraction was done in April 2020 covid times. We were the only ones in there. Appropriate for that time period. Every visit has been awesome. I never feel judged that my son or daughter scream or are scared. The dentists, staff and hygienists are friendly and understanding. They are patient with my children to help them understand what they are doing and why teeth cleaning is important. Can't recommend this Office enough for regular cleaning or other more in depth teeth needs. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would...I meant to leave this review months ago but I had to let it go so that I didn't explode...worst experience ever...we had a treatment plan that was not followed...my 4 yr old had to get crowns and she suggested it be done at the hospital...well without getting consent she changed the treatment plan and pulled his TWO front teeth that was not on the plan for that day...even though we were in the waiting area she said nothing...and then when confronted she said she would update the policy's on that...I never took my son back and found a new dental home read more

Awesome checkup for my little one while his teeth are coming in. Provided his opinion on any need for fluoride supplements, and info on the timing for the rest to come in. My son needed his first dental appointment as he is turning a year old this coming month. when I called, staff was super friendly and helpful, and they were able to get him on the schedule for a week out, which was awesome because past experience had me expecting the closest appointment to be at least a month away. when I got there I was immediately greeted by a friendly receptionist and quickly checked in. even though my son is still too young to enjoy their waiting room, it was very kid friendly with lots of different acrivities they can do while waiting. I was called back in less than 5 minutes from my arrival and the nurse was very thorough in her questions and was personable. she put on a show my son likes and asked if I had any questions. she also scheduled his next appointment while we waited for the dr to come in. the doctor was great with him as well as toroigh and explained things as she went and noted what she was looking for and seeing. He got his teeth brushed, flossed and was all done quickly. She also let him see the toothbrush and played with him to keep him entertained while working with him. When we left they even had an age appropriate toy for him even though he's a baby, which is definitely going above and beyond. so happy we choose them as his dentist and I can tell he will love seeing them again. read more

The first time we we went my son had a dentist with the personality of a log, definitely not suited for children. My SPD son freaked out and screamed the whole time. We have since scheduled with anyone but him. We had two wonderful women dentists. All of the staff that works the front desk are aaamazing. The hygienists are also ridiculously amazing and wonderful with children. We had to reschedule our last appointment for my 5 year old and 18 month old due to the tummy bug. They were more than understanding. I got the time wrong for the initial appointment and put it in my calendar wrong.. we actually showed up half an hour late. Everyone was super understanding and accommodating. We had originally scheduled to be with the woman dentist that had done so well with my son previously. But since I messed up we got the new male dentist. Holy cow he was even more amazing! He got on both of their levels he was excited and bubbly, my 18 month old didn't even need a to do a lap exam, he sat in the big chair and was so into his energy he just let him do his thing. My oldest with SPD got his X-rays taken. Seriously one of the most proud mama moments I've had. The staff is phenomenal. I hope the old log guy isn't there anymore because everyone else in this practice is absolutely amazing. read more

A filling was placed in our son in September, it cracked by Feb. We went back to have it replaced, which is covered by insurance if the crack occurs within the first year, and they wanted to do a full crown under sedation. This recommendation was made without taking an x-ray to determine a true course of action. We sought a second opinion and they were able to replace the filling with no problem. Also watch their billing. We were overbilled by $82. The hygienist were very kind and patient, but the Dr. was very rushed. read more

My daughter liked the place and the dentist. That said, I just received an explanation of benefits from my insurance company for the visit and that total bill was over $400 for a preschooler's cleaning (no x-rays, no cavities). They charged for nutritional counseling and for oral hygiene instruction which she also did not need. This was her third dental visit and her teeth are healthy. They knew that insurance companies do not cover these services. I am not sure yet what they expect me to pay but I will not pay the remaining $300 that the insurance is not covering. Update: The business responded by stating that we are not responsible for the extra charges. read more

Dr. Hwang and her staff are the best! We've gone to many in our travels with the Air Force and I would say that she really runs a top rate practice. Her office is spotless and they are careful about not putting a gloved hand in your child's mouth after touching tables or cabinets to retrieve supplies. They also wipe down exam chairs. I have left many dentists because these basic rules are not followed. She does an excellent job of seeing patients quickly, offering good ideas to increase oral health, and keeping the cost down. For instance, she doesn't try to fill a bunch of baby teeth that may be ok with sealant until permanent teeth come in. I trust her judgement. We'll be moving again! I wish I could take her Office with us. read more

We were visiting my family in Leonardtown, Maryland over the Labor Day holiday weekend and my daughter had an accident and moved her front tooth. We called the emergency line and although we were not registered patients we were quickly contacted by Dr. Hwang. She listened to our explanation of the accident and her tooth placement and she asked that we send pictures for her to see. She responded quickly and reassured us that our daughter would be OK. I just got the bill today and it's cost $223 for 5 minutes regular check up for my three years old. The insurance company was not cover it because they didn't update my insurance. I gave the new insurance for the front desk and this thing still happened. I am very disappointed. read more

I liked this dentist at first, but won't take my son there again, and he doesn't want to go back to Smile Castle anyway. They know my son has been traumatized by doctors. I made this perfectly clear to them right away. My son has had numerous eye surgeries and sedated eye exams, where he was forced to drink large syringes full of sedation medicine, so he has a hard time trusting anybody in the medical community. The staff at Smile Castle said they would be patient and would work on building my son's trust. Today I wasn't feeling well, so didn't go with my son to his appointment. Instead his father went and I found out after that my son had been held down and forced to have a Fluoride treatment! Why??? Fluoride treatments aren't mandatory! I sure hope my son didn't swallow any of the fluoride! And how is this supposed to make him trust Smile Castle??? He used to tell me he liked Smile Castle. Now he says he doesn't want to go back there again. I am very upset about this! I trusted my child to Smile Castle and this is what happens. No, I don't recommend them. read more
