Charged me well over $1000 for a job that he said would cost $280. Did the most bare minimum work. He left my front blinkers disconnected and also disconnected my sprayers. And left wires hanging out. Cut out my voltage meter and charger. Took well over a week. With no communication. Insulted my truck multiple times every time I called and was very short tempered with me when I would ask basic questions. Bad customer service, and mediocre work, but he will charge you thousands. Good luck if you take your car here. It better be a newer car that's easy to work on, cause God forbid you actually make him have to work hard, he wont be happy about it. I wouldn't come back personally. There's better mechanics out there. read more

DO NOT TRUST THESE MECHANICS! We have taken two cars here. One for breaks and another because it would shake and the die out while driving. Car that would die out while driving: the mechanic said it needed a new computer. We paid $2000 for this to be replaced. The car still didn't work. So then they said it need a new alternator. Prior to any of these issues this car never had any indicating factors leading to needing a new alternator. So there goes another $1200. Car still does not operate correctly. It drives but shakes while in idle at a stoplight and also dies out still. Check engine light is also still on. Owner/mechanic states that he cannot fix it and refers us to the dealership. Here's where this gets really good.... So the dealership diagnoses the vehicle and said that the computer that Ammermans installed had a tear and was a damaged part. Then they tell us that they highly doubt that we needed a new alternator either!! I had asked for the old part because I did want to see if it was damaged when they have uninstalled it and the owner told me they didn't have it. We got ripped off. Dealership diagnosed the vehicle as needing a new timing chain. That was another $5000. We are now into this issue $7000 and the cars not even worth that. For the breaks, they said that the rotors could just be resurfaced and pads could be replaced. So I paid nearly $400 for this to be done. 3 months later the breaks are squeaking. Called the dealership and they said these rotors cannot be resurfaced and should have been replaced. So that was money wasted. read more

I found out about Ed Ammerman from a referral. I have a classic car--a 59 Ford Thunderbird. Ed is a classic car whisperer. He drove my car, and knew exactly what was wrong with it and he fixed lots of little things that had been ignored by other shops. He also had enough intuition to dig a little deeper into my dirty oil/leak to discover a substantial problem with the upper end of my engine not getting oil due to clogged passages and sludge. Luckily, he caught it before damage occurred. He blasted every passage clear with carb cleaner and now the engine is oiling the way it should. He also caught and corrected several "work arounds" that previous mechanics attempted and noticed that the car had cracked control arms that were covered up with undercoating (preventing proper alignment) and were destined to fail soon. His team keeps an impeccable looking shop; they are organized and there is substantial attention to detail. I cannot recommend Ed more highly. Five stars isn't enough. read more

I am pretty blessed to have a husband that can fix just about anything. Even with that, knowing a good, honest mechanic is a must! I first met Ammerman when I worked for an auto part store in town. I appreciated his work ethic. Now when ever I have something that my husband cannot fix I take it to him. Today I brought my truck in to get checked out, after finding out what was making the airbag light come on I decided to wait to fix it. They did not charge for their time or expertise, just gave me the straight forward info. The place is not much to look at and a bit hard to find but the mechanics are top notch! read more

My good friend's uncle owns this shop and they do GREAT work! Ed is one of the friendliest owners I've ever met and always helps us out if we are having any issues with any of our cars. They are a reputable shop and you can tell that those whose work their genuinely care about the job they are doing. I recently took my 2006 Toyota 4Runner to Ammerman's as it did not pass its smog test after not being driven for several months. We originally were told to take our car to another shop in the area to have the work we needed done and they quoted us TWICE as much as we paid at Ammerman's. I took my car to get smogged the very next day and everything was in tip top shape. Ed is a first rate mechanic, who has never left me wondering if the work was done right. He has worked on all my cars ranging from my old 1955 Chevy Truck to my newer vehicles and he always does a great job. His rates are very reasonable and fair. He charges you for the time worked with none of this rounding up to the next hour stuff that some shops try to pull. He is also great because he is very patient and will explain exactly what he is doing and gives you a clear understanding to help you make a decision on what to do about a repair. He also is very open to telling me "Hey buddy you could do this yourself, just do this and this" He is a great mechanic and teacher and I wouldn't take my vehicles anywhere else. His last words when I leave the shop are always "If there are any issues with it after you leave, bring it right back and I will take care of it" He stands by his wok 100%. read more

Ed assured me that none of the things on the estimate were true and told me what he would do for a maintenance issue for ...drum roll...$80! I will never go back to my old shop again. And the sad thing is is they have been around Reno area for many years. Ed is my new mechanic, he is honest, up front, and a really nice man. My girlfriend has been going to see Ed for many years, and raved about him. I had been using another repair place, but the original owner had let his son take over, and I wasn't that impressed with his knowledge, plus it took 2 weeks to get my car in there. I needed a safety check, and oil change, and thought I would check him out. He got my car in there the next day, and ran a thorough safety check. His fees were exactly as my girlfriend had been raving about - not by the 1/2 but by the actual time it took him to do the work. When I drove away from his business, I was highly satisfied on all the things he had done, and how much he charged me. Now, I have an 2005 xterra, and the damn fuel pump sensors go out on them at about 85,000 miles, and mine was no exception. However, I wasn't having any fuel issues, just a misreading gage and the inability to smog and register the car because of the engine light. Ed gave me a quote for the replacement, which was actually less than two places I trust, and got my car in and out in 5 hours without any issues. Again, he cut me a break on the price for the ridiculously overpriced part, and I have complete confidence in his work. Ed will eventually retire and give up his shop, and I will have to find another place to go. In the meantime, I wouldn't go anywhere else ever again. read more
