It was a long, eventful rollercoaster of day... desperately in need of some sustenance, we looked for a spot in route to our final destination. With one of my favs, we decided to visit Amor Cubano, based on a found memory of their champagne mojitos. It was a cold Saturday night in January and all the stars aligned. We pulled and found parking right outside the door. We entered and was seated immediately without reservation even though it was crowded and the first week of NY restaurant week. We perused both the regular and restaurant week menu. In an attempt to keep it simple we went the regular menu and ordered everything at once. Of course two champagne mojitos and empanadas to start. For entrées, we went with Arroz Con Pollo (for me) and Churrasco- grilled skirt steak (for my partner in crime). Customer service was good, food came quick and hit the spot. Came here for a last minute lunch and the place is so warm and inviting. The staff is extremely professional and the music was top tier. There was some instruments set up in a corner so I'm assuming they have live music some nights. As great as the place was, I was underwhelmed by the food. I write this review, having been to Amor Cubano at least two or three times before. A classmate from high school was in town and wanted to experience something a little different from her usual dining and Amor Cubano fits that bill. This Sunday was a little quiet, given it was Superbowl Sunday and the live music is on Friday and Saturday evenings. My friend and I eventually had the restaurant to ourselves after a few tables cleared. She ordered a mojito and enjoyed it. I have ordered them here and they are very good mojitos, but do not expect mojitos as they serve them in Cuba. The cocktail service at Amor Cubano is one of its strengths, along with the live music, making it a great place to take a date and a place to come with a small group of friends. Reservations via Open Table are easily made here. Gracious hospitality has always been another strong suit at Amor Cubano. Given we had not seen each other for over a decade, we were talking and our server patiently waited for our order. My friend ordered the Camarones Criollo and enjoyed it, finishing it short order. My Paella a la Valencia was full of seafood, with delicious chunks of chicken and even better Spanish sausage. What confused me was the cold temperature of the shrimp tails shells in contrast to everything else. Otherwise, this is a dish that hits it home every time I have ordered it. The rice is cooked the appropriate time and, though, the shrimp tails were cold, the shrimp was cooked the appropriate time too, definitely not overcooked. Only the squid was overcooked, something that can easily happen and often does, but this dish is a great way to get a taste of the various proteins on the menu in one dish and one can taste the skill of the kitchen in this one dish, save for the few minor dings tonight. Given I have ordered several items from previous visits, I would be remiss if I didn't give a shout out to their Ropa Vieja, which is good here, but should not be the dish for first time visitors since you have likely had it before. Likewise, I would not order the Cuban sandwich or Arepas. Amor Cubano is a place where one should venture into their seafood and other meat and poultry offerings. The kitchen here is up to the task and they make a genuine effort with their cocktails. Tonight's experience was at three and a half stars, but that is stronger than it appears, because I don't hand out four and five stars easily. Other nights at Amor Cubano have been at four stars, so one can dine here with confidence and it's a solid rec for many reasons and occasions, especially when you can catch the live music on Friday and Saturday nights with your meal for a memorable experience. read more

I can't say enough about Julio and Laura at this fabulous restaurant. Two years ago my daughter,Amanda and her boyfriend, Jonathan had their 1st date here. They have returned several times and each time had a great meal and a good time. The Restaurant became so special to them Jonathan chose this place to propose. What a way to start 2026! :-( I cannot believe my favorite spot in El Barrio is now shuttered. This was the one place anyone can go to and feel comfortable, welcomed, safe (especially single women), enjoy delicious food and drinks, live Latin music (and dancing!), a great staff and a great vibe. I even hosted my son's wedding rehearsal luncheon there as well as my dad's 90th birthday. Many good memories there with childhood friends as this was the neighborhood we grew up in. I've been to this restaurant many times as it is a block away from my employment. I truly enjoy the wait staff as they are warm and welcoming. Today I had the arroz con pollo which translates to chicken and rice. The menu said it was shredded chicken which made me happy because I didn't feel like dealing with bones. The meal was more chunks of chicken, not really shredded chicken. That was the only flaw. Other than that the meal was delicious. Took friends at my recommendation- the fried fish smelled weird- so we didn't eat it and had no seasoning at all - (all four of us got the same thing) beans had no flavor, and rice almost seemed not washed or fully cooked (it was a little hard). Amor Cubano is a nice small place with tasty food, we walked in with no reservations it was a nice calm relaxing place to sit, eat, chat and enjoy some music. It wasn't that busy about 5 couples/friends we're all seated in different areas so it wasn't packed we ordered to eat el cubano, and 2 ropa veija, 2 pina mojitos and 1 passionfruit mojitos. They put a lot of leaves in the mojitos lol just a heads up. Nice brunch for my mom and I. They have two types of seating options, the clear houses and an open dining inclosurer. We chose the inclosure because it had heaters. Our waiters was very nice and prompt. The food was very good. I had a seafood soup, it had lobster tail, shrimp, mussels, clams, and squid and vegetables. Also came with 4 bread sticks. I recommend getting a side of rice if you need a little more substance in your soup. It was flavorful and just what I needed since it was cold. My mom had shrimps with peppers onions, olives, and rice. She enjoyed every minute of it. The shrimp where tasty and cleaned. This was such a nice surprise in a neighborhood that I'm not that familiar with! I was looking for more traditional Latin food and this place definitely has good Latin food PLUS a really amazing, cozy ambiance with older Latin music hits. It was like going a bit into the past, in a great neighborhood place. We tried the Arroz con Pollo and the Beef Empanadas and would definitely recommend both, but the highlight of the meal were the tostones with green salsa that they bring out for nibbling while you wait for your dishes. Also, the plantains that come with the Arroz con Pollo are the absolute best I've had in the US. They are very much like the ones I'm used to having at home - very sweet and soft in texture! It is a Cuban establishment by food, music, patrons and the vibe. I ate vaca frita and it was sooo delicious. The service was excellent. The waitress was knowledgeable and very friendly and pleasant. She knew the dishes and was sincere in her recommendations. We waited around to hear the live music. Live music starts at 7:30. I waited because I wanted to hear the congas. WHO doesn't want to hear Cuban music? I went with my Book Club buddies. We were celebrating one of them birthdays. We told Amor Cubano and they surprised her with many bubbles, small bubbles which turns out to be many. It was delightful. I enjoyed my time at Amor Cubano and look forward to eating there again. Recently, Amor Cubano hosted an event for my organization, and I will say that everything was wonderful. The restaurant was very accommodating with adding extra chairs and tables for our party's unexpected guests. Everyone in the group was very pleased with their food . . . and Latin American cocktails. A+ goes to the restaurant for having happy hour prices ($6 for mojitos, margaritas, and sangria) until 5 pm during the weekend. I thought the prices were very much in line with other Cuban places that I have visited in the city. Also, the portions are huge so a dinner plate has enough food for two meals. In addition to the food, the service was very exceptional. Our server, Lauri (I think) never had us longing for our mojito refills. If anything, I highly recommend that you go with the ham croquetas. For my main course, I went with the Lecho Asado, which was out of this world amazing. I would get this dish again just for the orange mojo sauce. I should have asked if the restaurant sells sauce in bottles. While this was my first time at Amor Cubano, it definitely will not be my last time. Amor Cubano was one of the places that I visited during Harlem Restaurant Week which was held from 8/19/19 - 9/1/19. Before heading there, I called and received a warm greeting over the phone by a woman that confirmed the Harlem Restaurant Week Prix Fixe Dinner Special. I took that an indication that it would be a good selection and I am pleased to say that I had a fantastic dining experience. Amor Cubano is on East 111th Street and is easily accessible via the 6 train to 110th Street. Upon my arrival, I was greeted by a hostess and she mentioned that she knew I was the person that called earlier-lol. The Manager Lourda (hope that I spelled it correctly) happened to be in charge of the bar which is where I was seated. There are colorfully painted walls which adds to the overall restaurant's aesthetic. Cool artwork/decor is situated in the front, along the sides near dining tables + also in the bathroom. The Harlem Restaurant Week Prix Fixe Dinner consisted of 4 Courses + either a Sangria or a Mojito Cocktail for $47 which was a great deal. I chose the following for each course : 1.) Beef Empanada, 2.) Ropa Vieja (Shredded Skirt Steak w/ Peppers + White Rice, 3.) Arroz Con Pollo (Chicken w/ Yellow Rice) and Pudin De Pan (Guava Bread Pudding). I was also provided w/ complimentary Plaintain Chip + Dip as well as beans w/ my Ropa Vieja. Boy, was I stuffed-lol. Amor Cubano's Ropa Vieja, Arroz Con Pollo and Guava Bread Pudding are amazing...the flavors, textures and overall seasoning of these dishes were wonderful. My White Wine Sangria was made well. Amor Cubano also has live music at specific times and that day the band was scheduled to start at 8pm. The band has a singer, keyboardist and bongo player. They played lovely tunes including Joe Arroyo's "Rebelion" which I enjoyed hearing live. My Guava Mojito was already delicious but taated even better as I danced in my seat to the music! read more

We came here one night to celebrate my girlfriend's mother's birthday. The place is pretty tight but the staff was very helpful in finding us a great table, right up front next to the live band, with plenty of space for our stroller. Parking outside at night is much easier than the daytime. Reservations are definitely suggested because they were packed this Saturday night. The food was excellent. We enjoyed their empanadas, tostones rellenos and calamari for the table. My skirt steak entrée was perfectly cooked and hubby loved his ropa vieja. Our drinks were really good and we enjoyed the music all night. At the end of our meal they brought out a birthday dessert and the band even sang happy birthday to my girlfriend's mom. This is definitely spot for a date night or even a group outing. I probably wouldn't bring the babes back here on a live music night as it was pretty loud but luckily we have headphones that protect her ears from loud noise.
