Harlem Hops is an African American owned and operated beer bar offering beer from local breweries…read moreand other breweries where the owner seeks and hunts. This is a place to find rare beer not ordinarily seen elsewhere. This was my first visit and I must have walked past Harlem Hops innumerable times along Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard in Harlem. This time I caught myself walking past on a beautiful Saturday with a five second delay and turned around and walked into Harlem Hops. Initially I thought I'll have a beer and keep it moving. I ordered a canned Hefeweizen, Deep Fried Highlighter Hefeweizen. Yep, that's the name and it was great. It supposed to have a banana note, but that was barely detectable. The clove note was there and it rode the top of this summer Hefeweizen nicely. Given this is one of the canned beers, they may have this anytime. Then I had American Pale Ale on tap, another great choice for a summer day: crisp, refreshing, cloudy light amber in color and unfiltered reminding you of a Hefeweizen. It has a slight citrus fruity flavor to my palate. There are sixteen taps. The taps change with the kegs, the season and what the owner sources from local breweries and beyond. Meanwhile, I'm having good conversations with folks who are regulars and the woman behind the bar, giving great recommendations. I forget the woman's name, but she is great. You can sample whatever they have on tap. She is good at understanding your taste profile and making recs. They also have a limited food menu. There is a backyard patio or garden and one can sit outside in front on the sidewalk. The dark interior is nice and cool on a summer day. The bathroom was clean as well. Four stars!

I tried to eat the fish which was very soft but dripping wet. Complained about it snd got it taken off. I would try a different dish and strongly urge you to pass the fish and chips. It works perfectly either way. This place is like your essential neighborhood dive bar, but with taste. If Tom's Restaurant had a cool, younger cousin who knew everything about beer, it would be this spot. It has that loyal following energy, the kind of place people in the know appreciate long before it becomes famous on a tourist list. They are known for their craft beer and let me tell you, they have a ton of it. I am not even into craft beer like that, but I like to experiment. At the rate I am going, it will take me about a year to get through all the options. Maybe two years if I behave responsibly. The food is great too. I think they have special days with unique menus or events once in a while because the times I went, something interesting was happening. Even on normal days, everything was on point. The fries alone are worth stopping in for. Simple, delicious, and dangerous. And the meals are well portioned, which is rare for a craft beer bar. What I really like is the vibe. You can come alone and mind your business or you can chat with a friendly patron. It does not matter. The spot builds community without trying too hard. In good weather they have a bit of seating out front. Do not let the neighborhood scare you off. The staff is excellent and the atmosphere is homey and comfortable. I am giving these folks a solid five. They deserve it. I need to drop by again soon for some comfort food and a drink. Cheers.

The charcuterie board, sardines, grilled cheese, and sourdough nduja menu? There are some tables near the massive craft beer and canned beverage cooler (including an extended non-alcoholic selection of drinks as well). They were full upon arrival while the bar had surprisingly few people- but I soon learned why. The bar seating was unfortunately some of the most uncomfortable bar seating I've sat on to the level that I couldn't really sit on it for more than 15min at a time without needing to stand again for relief from the stools. That may be good for turnover, but not for a second round, creating community at the bar, or staying for more than one drink. Which is too bad- because the bar tender was great and could probably gain more loyalty if it was more comfortable to stay. The only option I could see in the menu for a vegan was sourdough with perhaps fig jam and a rogue olive oil bottle that I spotted on the counter, or some chips off the wall, so it would be nice to have just a little more to work with in that direction for the animal-averse type. Overall- it's a bar and it's a nice one with a lot of thought put into it- so I only took a star off for the bar seating- everything else about the experience is lovely, but a comfortable place to sit is at least 1/3 of the experience and has an impact on wanting to stay and order more. The dart board in the back is freely available though- just ask the bartender for darts!

This rating is based on my overall experiences from coming here. Came here on a Friday night, it wasn't crowded and was a chill vibe. I got my usual order, marinated steak sandwich, I will say, there is less protein than I was expecting (Shrinkflation?) but it was still good. I really like the battered fries, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This place fell off a lil from the last time I've been here (over 2-3 years ago?). I ordered the chicken wings. Something went seriously FUBAR. Had they not tasted like thawed roadkill from the Jersey Turnpike heated up by Satan himself, I'd have guessed they were still chasing the chicken around out back, because 25 minutes is way too long to wait for wings. As for the "buffalo sauce," maybe they ran out, because what arrived looked like wings rolled across someone else's plate. Dry, sad, and flavorless. I didn't even finish them... something inside looked discolored and tasted a bit fishy. My stomach immediately said, "Nope." The beer list? Fairly decent on paper. But the beer itself wasn't cold enough -- more like slightly chilled tap water than the crisp pint you actually want. In short: swill unfit for pigs, rescued only by a pleasant bartender. Two stars. But hey, congratulations to The Beer Spot for earning my Vomitus Award, October 2025.

Didn't go for Taco Tuesday this time ($25 unlimited tacos is tempting), but I spotted birria ramen on the menu, which already guarantees I'll be back. Food-wise, the mushroom burger was the star--perfectly cooked, juicy, and rich without being too heavy. And the fries? Crispy, golden, dangerously addictive (and I'm picky about fries). Home Bx…read morewas packed, with only a few tables remaining and all the flatscreens and a new screen behind where the live entertainment plays, broadcasting the England victory over Norway and the Argentina victory over Switzerland. It had been a while since I had been here and I was focused on the number one item on the menu: the 53oz bone in Cote de Boeuf, always medium rare, which I believe is one of the best values for carnivores in town. Once seated in the corner near the front window, I perused their new menu off the new menu from the QR code. I noticed the pork belly over chickpeas and ordered that along with a glass of red sangria. Irma took my order and I explained I wanted a fruity non fortified red sangria. It was very good. Irma forgot the bread and butter they usually serve and they brought it later after her shift ended. The pork belly was very good and so crisp. The serrated steak knife was necessary. The fat was largely rendered out, but still present between the crackling skin and the savory meat underneath. It was two thick slabs over the chickpeas and a substantial appetizer for 16 bucks. Some appetites could enjoy this as a main with a salad and be fine. That would not be me this evening. I ordered the Cote de Boeuf medium rare, which comes with grilled onions and two sides, which I chose the whipped potatoes and the asparagus, the latter new to the menu. I also ordered the Lobster Mac and Cheese as an extra, which is now served with Gruyere as an additional cheese to the mix. The Gruyere is new and it adds a sharpness juxtaposed with the sweet lobster meat and puts this over the top for me. They adjoined the neighboring free table and presented the steak sizzling and pre-cut nicely from the kitchen. I tried to take a video of that moment without success. I told them to hold all the sauces they offer and just bring the citrus salt. This magnificent cut only needs the citrus salt and nothing more; though, you will find those grilled onions go well with this cut. At $125 for this hunk of bone in excellence, this is one of the best cuts served in NYC at an irrefutably great value, with the sides included, save for the Lobster Mac and Cheese. So juicy and flavorsome highlighted with the citrus salt, that pink center with the ring is evident of what the skillful chefs can do here at Home Bx. The steak at Home Bx may be aged, dry or wet, I cannot confirm; however, the edge goes to less than a handful of the other steakhouses for flavor, but none at this price. The whipped potatoes are great and are the perfect accomplishment for steak. I don't know why the whipped potatoes are served modestly for such a large steak, but they are very good. The asparagus, new to the menu, are about six large spears and are not overcooked. The salt and juice runoff from the steak go well with the asparagus counterpoint. The Lobster Mac and Cheese deserves repeat mention, with the addition of Gruyere cheese. It now has more refined and balanced flavor, with the Gruyere and lobster playing off each other. The Lobster Mac and Cheese is a must have here. It's that good and goes well with the steak. 4.3 stars! Stay tuned for part two of this review. I ordered the new pork chop on the menu and the roast chicken to go.
