Wonderful restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. The dinner rolls are homemade, I had the pork and it was incredible. Great service too!

Fantastic knowledgeable and friendly service! Wonderful decor with great live music - piano. You can sit close or further away depending on your mood. We chose about mid-way so we could still hear/enjoy but talk, as well, without distracting anyone. The Sarasota Summer 3-course menu is still available- great value. The Cesar Salad was really good - served in a crispy fried cheese bowl - NOT greasy at all, added good crunch and flavor. The cod fritters and shrimp and corn soup were very well received. The pasta bolognese was excellent. The chicken parmigiana was also excellent and liked by all. The custard pastry desert was a perfect ending to the whole meal.

Excellent service and food. Always looking for good Portuguese food in any area that we stay and this restaurant met the Bill. Highly recommend this restaurant as a place to have an excellent dining experience.

An Italian and Portuguese menu which is extensive and maybe if shortened the quality of the food would be better. The entertainment provided by pianists including the wonderful Eddy Tobin is excellent.

    Salted cod fritters, delicious

3 stars for nice food and service. If Yelp offered stars for individual items I would give the salted cod 5, the fritters were delicious, a first in Sarasota. I would go back only for these. The pappardelle with bolognese sauce was tasty, the pasta was too thick, should have been served piping hot though, but the flavor was great, huge portion. Pricey but that's Sarasota now LA & NY prices for normal food. The restaurant is darkish but the open kitchen is a nice touch. Decor is from the old place in Burns Court.

I enjoyed dinner with a group of friends. There were five of us altogether. I had Shrimp Scampi and really enjoyed it. Also, the dinner rolls were fantastic. Everyone loved their food and will be back again! Great food and service with relaxing piano music in the background.

    Sweet and spicy wings.

We were huge fans of New England Roadside Grill before they changed ownership, and man do we want them back! Im from Rhode Island so we loved how close it was home to us and that the consistency and quality was always above and beyond. We decided to stop in after running around a couple of days ago (and let me start by saying that we did have our meal comped but it should've been tbh) and were so disappointed not only in our meal but also in the way it was handled by the new owners. We started with a stuffie and an order of onion rings and we each got a lobster roll. The stuffie was soggie, the onion rings had a weird tempura batter but thicker with no flavor and the lobster roll was honestly inedible. It was soaked in a liquid mayo (I've never seen such runny mayo in my life) and the lobster was stringy. Just weird. We let one server know that we were really unhappy with the meal and she said she would go talk to the owners. Now we were sitting at the bar and they were sitting right on the other side of us (the opening was separating us). We watched the wife go back first and then her husband. They came back out sat back down and didn't say a word. We sat finishing our drinks for a few more minutes before my bf finally asked if they were the owners, to which the husband said yes they were. We let him know how disappointed we were and he agreed that the lobster rolls especially were pretty bad. The problem I had is he immediately threw his cook under the bus and made excuses for why the food was bad. And honestly, had we not said something, I think huh would've continued ignoring us. No apologies just well we knew it was bad so we'll comp it, to which we thanked him and tipped our server well and paid for our drinks. We really wanted this reopening to be great. We'll stick to RJs for the time being. The total prior to comp was ~$90. We tipped our serve $25. Won't ever go back here again.

And the portions are HUGE. We had a reservation which was well used as it was pretty packed. We sat inside. It was pretty warm inside, though, from the heat so just be prepared for that. We got a pitcher of sangria and they make it right beside the table. It was SO good. Wow. Each person got about 1/4 a loaf of warm bread. They did say it was cuban bread but it wasn't really. But hey the bread was good. We got their famous salad to try (one side order for 2 people to split and one person got it as their entree) and it was very good. They also make that table side. For our meals, we got the lechón, salad, and fish. The portions were HUGE. So much pork. It came with great tasing yucca, beans, and plantains too. For desert, we got the guava pastry and the natilla. The guava pastry was actually kind of amazing. Warm and so so good. The natilla was good but it was closer to a crème brûlée. It was still good, though. I'm excited to go to another (closer) location of theirs again. It was really such good food. We were also able to take our leftovers with us since they gave us so much food. The lechón plate is definitely splittable.

I checked out the food bar, the black beans looked good but had pork sausage in them, so I couldn't eat that. When the meats came around, most were medium rare or rare, which is too pink for me. I asked for a different temp and one of the guys kinda caught an attitude when I said the piece he gave me had too much fat. It got awkward real quick as he told me there is no fat on the meat. Also asked for A1 and it took a while. Overall, it wasn't terrible. I had a good time because I was with family, but food-wise it didn't wow me. I ordered the Signature Cut Special while my husband ordered from the regular menu. When the bill arrived, I politely pointed out that I had been charged incorrectly. Instead of simply checking the order, our server, Talis, told me that other meat carvers had supposedly seen me eating the regular menu item and implied that I was being dishonest. I was shocked. Being publicly accused of lying over a dinner order is completely unacceptable. I repeatedly explained that I had ordered the Signature Cut Special, yet the argument continued until I firmly stood my ground. Only then did he back off. We brought the situation to management's attention. While Manager Paulo has always been professional, courteous, and customer-focused, our interaction with Manager Michael left much to be desired. Rather than immediately addressing the seriousness of a customer being falsely accused, the situation was handled in a way that felt dismissive and unprofessional. The issue was never about the money. It was about respect. Long-time customers should not be treated as though they are trying to deceive staff over a menu item. What should have been an enjoyable evening turned into an embarrassing and frustrating experience. Shrimp salad had good flavor but too many shells in the salad. Roasted garlic was still crunchy/not cooked through. Few of the signs were mislabeled. The bacon covered jalapeño poppers were labeled as brown sugar bacon. That completely took me by surprise because it was quite HOT! In conclusion, I was expecting the same level of attentiveness for the food selections as I received with the service.

As the oldest restaurant in Florida and the largest Spanish restaurant in the world, we felt it was a must-visit to experience its rich history and unique atmosphere. We also reserved seats for the Flamenco dance show, which had a $10 cover charge per person. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and enormous, with so many different dining rooms. You could probably get lost trying to find your friends inside, just kidding! We were lucky enough to get a table near the stage, so we could enjoy the Flamenco performance while having dinner. For our meal, we started with the Caldo Gallego "Giant Soup" ($10), which was hearty, flavorful, and incredibly comforting. We also ordered Columbia's Original "1905" Salad ($18). Made with crisp iceberg lettuce, julienned baked ham, natural Swiss cheese, tomatoes, olives, grated Romano cheese, Lea & Perrins® Worcestershire sauce, and their famous garlic dressing, it was fresh, light, and absolutely delicious. Our main dish was the Mojito Chicken ($25). The chicken was very flavorful, especially with its delicious citrus-garlic sauce. Although the chicken itself was just a little on the dry side in my opinion, the flavorful sauce made up for it, and the dish was still very enjoyable. We also had the Paella "a la Valenciana" ($40), which was loaded with clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, calamari, chicken, and pork, along with green peppers, Spanish onions, ripe tomatoes, garlic, and a splash of white wine. It was a generous portion packed with fresh seafood and rich Spanish flavors. The New York Strip Sirloin "The Bambino" ($53) was another excellent choice. The 14 oz. USDA Choice wet-aged boneless strip steak was tender, juicy, and cooked perfectly. To finish our meal, we ordered the Flan ($8). It was smooth, creamy, and absolutely delicious, a perfect ending to a wonderful dinner. The Flamenco dance show was fantastic! The dancers were energetic and passionate, making the entire dining experience even more lively and memorable. Combined with the excellent service, it made for a truly enjoyable evening. Overall, Columbia Restaurant is much more than just a place to eat, it's a historic landmark and an unforgettable dining experience. Between the beautiful Spanish architecture, rich history, delicious food, outstanding service, and exciting Flamenco performance, it's definitely worth visiting when you're in Ybor City.
