We loved our stay at The Reserve Retreat! We stayed in the Charles Ringling Room and it was perfect for our two night stay. Checking in to our room was seamless and easy. They had a small mailbox with an envelope waiting for us that had our room on it along with directions and the door code. The room had everything we needed plus a few welcome snacks and bottles of water. The bed was super comfy and the room was spacious. It was really nice to have a kitchen and fridge. Parking was free and there were two small lots we could park at. We can't wait to come back and stay again! read more

I strolled into The Retreat on my morning hunt for a good coffee while on vacation. I ended up getting an iced latte with oat milk and lavender flavor. The barista was so friendly and customized the drink to my liking. The price was reasonable! $5.88 for the latte including tax. I feel like it's hard to get a latte under $6 these days. The latte was great, and I loved the hint of lavender. I wish I came to this spot earlier on my vacation so that I could drop in every morning. They have outdoor seating with umbrellas. We had a great experience at The Reserve Retreat last night. Alena and Chef Antonio host a sophisticated menu and atmosphere at their charming old-world restaurant on Tamiami Trail. Highly recommend if you're looking for an upscale dining experience in Sarasota. My Pork Shank Ossobucco fell off the bone like none before, and it was really wonderful to have the extra treats that they brought to the table for us as a chef's surprise. My companions raved about their Grouper and Branzino and we can all recommend the sharing plates of Calimari Cioppino, (sautéed not fried), and Shrimp with Burratta. Huge yums were heard all around. Our first visit - for a lunch - and managed to pick a day when they had a party of 10, a party of 6 and two four tops. Needless to say, it was slow. Over and hour from order to food. So we decided to chill, enjoy a glass of wine and research the history of this inn/restaurant/b&b/music/comedy spot. According to them "All-day menus featuring classic coffee shop fare alongside wine & beer, live music, & patio seating." A bar on one side (one small table) serves wine & craft beer, the kitchen and dining are across the courtyard. The "bar" side also houses the coffee/tea shop serves specialty coffee drinks, hot or cold, and a nice assortment of loose leaf tea. Drink in air conditioned comfort, under the bright blue sky, or take it with you. Lots of choices. The courtyard sports a bunch of tables and a small stage where music & comedy reside. On the third Thursday of the month (6:30-8:30p), they hold a wine tasting with virtually unlimited samples and lite hors d'oeuvres. The Inn offers seven rooms - they look clean and neat. Our food was excellent...we started with Pretzels - 4 pretzels sticks with creamy cheese $9 And followed with Grouper Taco Blackened grouper with pineapple salsa, chimichurri aioli. Served with fries. $16 Turkey Club Sandwich Roasted turkey breast, applewood smoked bacon, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato with chipotle mayo on a flaky croissant. Served with French fries. This spot is SUPER cute and the food was even better than expected. When you pull up it has a small town local niche feel. There was a live solo act artist. The food- Starting with the cafe con leche. Moving onto the super well made and loaded with meat crab bisque. Fresh and jumbo shrimp. Delicious buratta. My last review of this place was from a few years ago so I thought I would update it. This place is a consistent go-to for me, especially for breakfast. In my opinion they have some of the best omelettes in town. The Reserve now also has a new menu for their restaurant which serves breakfast, brunch, and a more sophisticated menu in the evenings. We came here to see a sweet jazz band that was playing. There is a large beer and wine selection enough to keep everyone happy. The customer service was also excellent! Your names are also taken down when you order to avoid any conflicts or disruptions. I had a lovely time but for some reason the food we ordered all came out at irregular times. A pasta entree was received about ten minutes after ordering followed by a Mac and cheese side 15 minutes after that. Meanwhile I had ordered the Chicken Marsala which was delicious but it didn't come out until a good forty minutes after ordering. At this point, everyone was done eating and drinking and I wasn't sure if my meal was coming out. The other night, Jeff and I returned to The Reserve & boy, did we feel like royalty with the two co-owners, Jessica and Sarah Simmons taking care of us! This has been one of our "go-to" spots before Theatre at the ASOLO for the last 5 years. Picture yourself having a great, family meal in Mama's country kitchen with all of the comfort food, kitch and ambience of coming home... That is what you will get at The Reserve. The food is amazing and I highly recommend the pork chops!... And, if you want a Pittsburgh/Black and Blue Steak...They ace that too! Chef knows how to rock it! We had a reservation although it did not seem like we needed it for the inside table w/air conditioning. (came from church so we were not wanting to be uncomfortable) Ample and free parking across the street a few handicap and close spots and a drop off point at the location. Free parking - my favorite kind!!! Very cute spot and traditionally decorated. Getting to our seat (or even seen) was a problem and it felt they were understaffed from the first minute. I had dropped off my wife and daughter and parked the car, walked to the restaurant and they were still standing there and nobody had talked to them. We saw a few people seated but we did not see anybody walking around or working? No hostess or waitstaff? A few minutes passed and we accosted the first person I saw and get inside and were seated. Quaint, but tight and small inside. Maybe too small for the three tables in the "front room"/porch. We waited well over 5 minutes for a busboy to ask us if we wanted anything to drink. He seemed uncomfortably nervous as if he started just today? He disappeared and came back minutes later with coffee and then with waters and then the milk/cream we asked for the coffee. Finally our waitress arrived??? Painful. She also seemed 'new' to the role and almost to timid to be customer facing. The restaurant and outdoors was lightly populated so we were not sure why the meal took so long? I did have to go look for our waitress to get coffee refills and more cream. (so yes we drank coffees and water and got more until the meals arrived. Okay so I did not want to harp on this service but it was unnecessarily slow and poor. This could all easily be resolved and while it does weigh on my mind, I try to not have it tarnish my review of the FOOD!!! But you the reader should be aware. We got two of the traditional eggs benedict w/ham and breakfast potatoes because my wife was not being that adventuresome and they did not have a lot of eggs benedict variety? The other options while sounding good, were off our standards for this exploratory contest purpose. The eggs were hot and cooked perfectly (with all the delays we were expecting a disaster and I think the kitchen is in another building so this was great!!) The ham was a nice product also prepared and cooked nicely and a tasty item. The muffin was slightly crisp and not 'wet' and the entire order was lightly accompanied by a very tasty and buttery Hollandaise sauce. (we could have used a bit more of it, note to self if there is a next time) 9/10 for this very tasty Benedict!! The breakfast potatoes were cooked accurately and crisp and fairly spiced. There were a bit cool/warm only and may not have been cooked to order. - 5/10 The fruit cup was two cantaloupe and two pineapple chunks which my wife traded her pineapple for my cantaloupe (suggest a least a few blueberries or mango or cherries for variety and color) I actually would have like to had grits or other options? 5/10 The avocado toast came with two poached eggs. The eggs were perfect (they got this down - which is great for a breakfast spot right????) - 9/10 The toast was a good product and toasted and tasty per my daughter. Unfortunately the avocado spread while visually and physically fresh and seeming perfect was almost tasteless and 'watery'/thin. Maybe out of a bulk pack or food service tub. Some kind of additional ingredients like spice, or lime, or other 'spread flavor" would be nice and expected. Otherwise you might as well just throw two avocado on the plate w/ knife and you can spread it on yourself? (smile) daughter was not impressed. 5/10 From an eggs benedict perspective we give them very high marks! there are some sides and other entrees that need some work. The easiest and most urgent shortcoming is the customer experience and service was very disappointing. If they make the finalist round we hope this might have improved??? read more

My wife and I visited this restaurant this afternoon for the first time, as we are visiting Sarasota from our home in Colorado. The location is convenient in a popular part of beautiful, historic Sarasota, Florida, is nicely decorated on the outside, there was adequate parking, were greeted upon entering the restaurant, were seated quickly by our friendly server, there were many good choices on the menu, our lunch entrees were delicious and not at all expensive, the dining room was clean, nicely decorated, and had ceiling fans turned on to keep my wife and I cool and comfortable during our relaxing lunch, and the restroom was clean. read more

A group of eight of us had a very good meal last night at the Reserve. We had very good lamb loin chops with demi glaze, excellent mussels scampi, and the the standout: best pork chops we have tasted in years. Modern pork chops are usually terribly bland, but these were tender, juicy, and full of flavor. They also served a really good Malbec. (Not a full bar, a few commercial cocktails.) The atmosphere is historic (obviously!) and intimate, and service is friendly. If you're looking for something slick and polished, this is not your place. But if you want a more personal, unique experience, and if you like meat and wine, you will probably enjoy it. A wine tasting menu is an option. read more

Stopped by for breakfast the other day and wondered if they were open because no one was there. Oh gosh where to begin!!! Was looking for a place to stay during a Sarasota weekend trip and well .. I prefer a bed & breakfast type place over a commercial hotel. My filtering qualifications on the app I booked them with was "extremely clean" and this was top on the list. With good reason! The hotel is literally like a little retreat. The place is very nicely decorated, staff is super friendly, warm and welcoming! Helpful, provided great recommendations and were very personable. They do open mic nights on Fridays, and Saturdays they alternate entertainment (I believe). I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I had been upgraded to the Otto room because another guest brought a dog and wanted the other room on the first floor. Not going to complain!! I'll take it!! Gorgeous spacious room, calming decor, nice seating area and the en-suite bathroom was small but useful. My stay was 2 weeks ago and I'm actually returning this weekend :) read more

Not thrilled. Went to early brunch on Sunday service was extremely slow. The waitress didn't write down our order so of course my croissant never came out with my omelet. Asked for it from the girl who dropped off our food, then again when the waitress stopped by after 5 minutes but she brought it out cold. Charming B&B near downtown Sarasota on the Tamiami Trail. 3 buildings formerly the home of the Ringling family while their estate was built. Now a 6-bedroom B&B. Serve 3 meals a day to the public and guests. We enjoyed a terrific brunch that was true home cooking. Very reasonably priced. Wine bar for afternoon tastings and a large outdoor patio. We parked in the empty lot across the street, only car there, and one of the staff came running out and yelled across the street to park our car in a different angle. OK? Waitress was new and couldn't answer any questions about the history of the building, a bit odd since that is the attraction to the venue. We ordered the bottomless Bloody Mary's, asked if they do a salted rim, no they don't. Drinks came, very spicy, asked if they had any tomato juice to add, no they don't. Answers to all questions we asked was no. Not "I'm sorry, but we don't ....." Did not have any more drinks. Lox and bagel was as expected, on cardboard plates. What a disappointment. Two bagels, two drinks later, $60 without tip. This place is a definite pass. read more

The location is nice, the bed is comfortable, AC to keep it cool on these hot and humid days, Great live music (but if you like to go to bed early I would suggest you don't stay here) acceptable wine selection, ok beer selection, free WI-FI. The bad: Parking is a bitch, bath products must come from the dollar store, wait staff does not seem to have a very good grip on service (although nice) went for coffee in the morning and the same pastries that were there the day before when we checked in were still there. WORST PART: booked a room for New Year's Eve and day. Made sure we had reservations... It took an hour to get apps, another 10 min to get stale rolls, 30 min later our salad came.... Then, well it was as if we did not exist. A table of 10 came in well over an hour after we were seated yet they were served Their meals while we were over an hour and a half maybe 2 hours into our seating with no dinner! I got tired and went up to the room. 15 min later the manager went to my wife who was still sitting at the table waiting for her dinner and told her they had run out of food?? YES! THEY RAN OUT OF FOOD YET WE WERE SEATED AT 7:30. The manger did comp our apps, salad and bottle of wine.. He also did the same for the champagne we had delivered to the room. He made a good effort to redeem the situation and we are thankful for that, BUT we will NEVER return to this place... Well, where do I start. I ordered an everything bagel and coffee. The bagel was covered in mold...ugh...the owner was there and never extended her apologies. I had a coffee and the server said, no charge. My friends breakfast was good but she was charged 7$ for a cup of coffee...it said x2....she only had one cup. We were there two weeks ago....the food was ok, but we were constantly asked if we wanted refills on coffee...we were charged for each refill...no other restaurant does that.....very slippery and not welcoming.. we won't return read more
