My husband and I recently had the pleasure if dining at Sophie's, in Saks Fifth Avenue in Sarasota. What an amazing experience. The decor both inside and outside so chic. We had Matty as our waitress. She was spot on with top notch service and a wonderful personality. We started with a bread basket of assorted toppings, delicious. He had the Tai chicken. Well prepared and perfect with seasoning. I had on of the best burger ever. Cooked and seasoned perfectly at medium rare with tasty fries. The manager checked on us several times, a nice touch you don't see anymore. If you happen to be in the area at the mall, I highly recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed. Wow what a gem! Located inside the Sak's Fifth Ave department store on the second floor, this tony restaurant is the bomb! Service was excellent, informative, friendly and efficient, especially considering every seat was occupied. There's a small bar at the front with dining in the rear. Decor is chic modern with a beautiful candle wall. Wine list is perfect for a lunch spot and the food was outstanding. My tuna banh mi was among the best sandwiches I have ever eaten. HIDDEN GEM! My friend and I ate here this afternoon and we were both very impressed! She got a smash burger with fries and said it was cooked to perfection and the sauce on the hamburger bun was fabulous! I had the turkey bacon sandwich with salad and a chocolate martini. Never heard of Sophie's before but we came in through Saks and I knew they had an in-store cafe. We headed to the second floor quickly and got seated right away. They served flavor packed dishes. Deviled eggs were phenomenal, beet salad could use a bit of acidity but savory and hearty nonetheless. Wait staff was awesome, took really good care of us while we pretend to be boujee lounging in a very posh atmosphere. Only I was a little out of place wearing leggings paired with a plain sweater but didn't care. I was hangry. Took one star off: salad needs a presentation upgrade. read more

I went in with no real expectations, as this is a restaurant inside a department store - not where I think of when I think "fine dining". We were here for a private event, so we had the restaurant to ourselves, and a limited menu. However, I tried to sample as many options as I could, and was very impressed with all of it. In particular, the sliders and croquets were outstanding; the kitchen team outdid themselves! Since we weren't here during regular service, I can't comment on the quality of that, but if it's even half as good as what we experienced, I'd absolutely recommend this place. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE. The food and service is impeccable! I cannot say enough good things about this establishment!!! The general manager, Mark Resnick, along with the chef (who has worked at Michelin starred restaurants) were extremely accommodating and fulfilled my every desire for a private function I arranged at Sophie's in late September 2018. That is why Sophie's receives my glowing recommendation for a private event. If you have a party greater than 18 that need to be seated, you can in essence "rent out" the main restaurant for your private event, where as 18 people can comfortably sit in their posh private room while the restaurant itself remains open. We hosted a party of around 26 people so the entire restaurant was utilized and was closed to outside business. There is also a beautiful patio with outside seating that can be used as well however on the particular day we had the event was quite hot and humid out so we remained inside for the majority of the duration of our time there. The restaurant knocked the menu choices I selected out of the park! My guests raved about the delectable meals and drinks and the stellar service! I loved my wild caught salmon entree and could tell it incorporated only the freshest of ingredients. I tasted my sister's vegetarian risotto entree and it was intensely delicious (I never knew risotto could taste that good)! Sophie's sources local, sustainable, and fresh ingredients to make their menu items to order and you can taste it in the result. The passed appetizers (crab cakes, potato croquette, and spanakopita) were also stellar and raved about. The team at Sophie's also worked with and to meet my guests' dietary restrictions without hesitation. There was a great deal of back and forth with Mark regarding details of the event and he was always available and communicative! I greatly appreciated how well we were taken care of. My friend had a private luncheon held here and it was spectacular. From the service to the special menu to the ambiance/decor to the food itself, which was amazing. Truly perfect, as you'd expect from a Nortsrom's (and certainly had a better experience here than the one I recently ate at for dinner in Atlanta). Upon entry, the staff smiled and welcomed you in, offered drinks, they were helpful when anyone had a question... When we all ordered, they were accommodating when necessary and they had personalities! Good ones. They were fun. And accepted the sassiness at my table like good sports. If I'm hanging around Sarasota, at or near the mall (which is all kind of unlikely and sad because I did really enjoy this place), I will remember to make this a suggestion - or a requirement - for lunch, dinner or just drinks/happy hour, because it's that good! read more

I am finally here. It was the taste of UTC brought me here today. I glad they have the promotion with affordable price to try their dishes. It was great deal for the taste with 3 course meal in one price. Sophie is located at the second floor. The space is small. Majority of the seat is taken during lunch. They do have good showing because of the promotion. My three courses today start with chicken liver parfait. The liver was grind to paste. Then add spice and become flavor sophisticated pieces of food. It top over salad and swept with fruit jelly. I like this dish beachside bold chef skill to smooth out this dish. My second dish is the crab cake over the mix veggies. The crab is not like lump crab meat but it was well distributed with the taste of meat. I believe they using the local materials blue crab. My last dish is chef dessert. The food are good. The service is a bit slow may be they did not expect many will show up. Normal situation two server is more than enough. This is a very upscale cafe within Saks 5thAve. We stopped there for lunch when we shopped at nearby Crate and Barrel. It wasn't all bad, but very expensive. We would rather dine more often at less expensive places with great food. And though we could afford it, Saks is not a place where we shop. My party enjoyed another lovely lunch at Sophie's. Our server was good, but I was more impressed by the amount of work the general manager put forth in overseeing every aspect of the dining room (and likely the kitchen, as well). He was friendly to chat with, very professional, very hard working, and quite diligent in ensuring all guests had everything they needed/ were enjoying themselves. Sophie's has a small dining room, so it was easy to notice his involvement behind the bar, at the hostess stand, and in checking on diners. He out shined the rest of the staff (that I noticed that day) in personality and dedication. All of the food we ordered was tasty- with the avocado toast surprisingly balanced and complex. Kudos on that little bite of deliciousness. The only minor disappointment was that I would've liked the cocktails to be a little larger... but maybe I'm just a lush. I could have enjoyed endless refills of the Sophie's 76 because it was perfection! Overall, job well done. I'd love to only work with the GM when I'm there because he was such a delight, but it would be equally wonderful to see all servers rise to his level of excellence. read more

Beautiful, little upscale restaurant in Saks at the new UTC mall in Sarasota serving traditional American fare. The novelty of this restaurant is that there is only one other location in Chicago and this is one of the only mall restaurants unavailable at its distant cousin's location in Tampa. It's certainly beautiful and suits the high-end demographic of its department store shoppers well; Plenty of healthy menu items appealing to women. Prices are expectedly in line with Saks, too, as is the service. Everyone from the hostess, waitstaff to water/bus boys was professional and courteous. The lobster roll is a fan favorite, so I was excited to try it and it was as good as they raved it was. The roll was loaded with fresh meat and greens, and the pickled onions were a perfect punch. My crab bisque, however, could use some modification. There was a strong fishy, salty taste to it and the pool of oil on top left an unappetizing first impression. The patio was closed due to weather, but I can imagine it a perfect setting for a cocktail or wine on a nice day. It's very inviting and spacious. The decor both inside and out is stunning. The restaurant is a little tight inside, almost uncomfortably close to your neighbor at the next table. The hostess did a great job of spacing everyone out as much as possible until the restaurant filled up. Sophie's is a perfect little get-away to escape the masses in the mall. We celebrated Mother's Day and my moms birthday with lunch at Sophie's. We enjoyed a few specialty cocktails (martini like) which were delish! We ordered the chef soup, salad, sandwich which was egg salad blt on brioche and I had the chefs daily pasta with shrimp and broccolini as well as a cup of the soup. Everything was perfect. The chef sent complimentary dessert of lemon custard w raspberries topped with a crumble. We also enjoyed a white wine. Had a great birthday lunch here! The atmosphere is very cute and the menu is enticing. We had the fig flatbread which was packed full of flavor and very enjoyable. We shared the Louie salad as recommended to us by our server. It was very good, light and flavorful. The coconut bread pudding was perfect and not too overbearing on the coconut. The service was good - although, I am a server in a "casual fine dining" restaurant and I feel that a few extra touches such as we do in my place would've been nice (crumbing, silverware change, napkin resets, etc.). Their Happy hour features a chef sampler plate which changes depending on how the chef is feeling. I like surprises so I love this option. The menu is simple which means everything they make can shine. We started with the avocado fries and bread basket. The bread basket had a wide array of different breads. A sourdough, 5 seeded bread and a crunchy pita bread. All divine. The bread in addition came with 3 different dipping sauces. The avocado fries were crispy and melted in my mouth when I bit in. Next up was the burger. This is why I decided to try Sophies. The burger was truly remarkable. Burger was on a soft toasted brioche bun. Toppings included bacon jam, roasted tomato, cheddar and shoestring onions. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. Would eat this burger once a week if I could! Loved this place! Yes it's pricey, but it's a really lovely experience. Our server Justin was so great. We sat on the outside deck and it was really nice. They have a really fancy fan that also sprays out mist so that felt nice when the sun came out. They gave us some bread with a spread of different butter/hummus which was delicious. We had a wonderful lunch Saturday at Sophie's. It's very intimate and upscale. It's a wonderful change from all the larger restaurants in the Univeristy Town Center. The service was amazing and the food was delicious. Our girls lunch started with a Georgia Peach martini, which was muddled with peaches and strawberries. For a starter we had the macaroni and cheese with braised short ribs - again delicious. And shared a fig,bacon and goat cheese flatbread that was full of flavor. Really great meal.
