It was easy to set up an appointment to have exterior locks on my new house re-keyed. The locksmith…read morearrived about 30 minutes late (blame the LA traffic?). He seemed to understand the locks that were installed (ll part of new construction) and got to work dismantling everything. It then took him quite a while to re-key and put back two of the standard locks. The third lock (which is a digital smart lock) seemed to baffle him. He consulted with his office first, then pulled up an instruction manual on his phone to figure out how the lock worked. Eventually he got the lock re-keyed and everything worked fine afterwards. The service was not inexpensive. First there is a $45 service call fee which is credited towards the cost of the job if you choose to hire them. Second, the total cost for the three locks was $547, which seemed steep to me but then I've not used locksmith services in a while so maybe that is the going rate.

Gets here, says the price is $575. Another company I called said $175. I was able to negotiate a little (prior to unlocking my door which took less than 2 mins) but seriously don't let these guys take advantage of you in the future. It was my bad being upset in the situation and not being able to shop around for quotes, but seriously I wish I had used someone else.
