200 ML bottle of pomegranate balsamic vinegar
    Kacy O.

Amazing store next to Hideout Kitchen Beautiful setup of artisan olive oils and balsamic vinegars among tea towels, olive oil soaps, and olive tree food products. Definitely worth a visit especially if you love to eat, cook and/or attend frequent dinners with friends. Great housewarming gifts or food souvenirs from California! We purchased one 200 ML bottle of pomegranate balsamic vinegar, blood orange olive oil and gremolata olive oil. Tastes are clean and very delicious. Can't wait to try my purchases in an upcoming lunch or dinner! Thank you to Sharon for the detailed explanations of the product lines and tastings!

This place is a hidden gem! I've consistently bought the Gravenstein Apple Vinegar and Persian Lime Olive Oil, which I mix and add onto all my salads!! All the oils and vinegars have great flavor, and are a light and healthy option for cooking or dressings. I buy the smallest size (200ml) for $8 each, which will last around 1-2 years for me. They also sell caps for $2 each. For such a reasonable price, I would definitely purchase the caps with the bottles because it makes drizzling the oils much easier. The caps are also dishwasher safe! Every time I come, all the workers are so kind and helpful. They are very knowledgeable about the products! I just revisited the shop today, and they are still operating during COVID. I placed my order and picked up on the same day! It's a bummer because a big part of this experience is walking in the store and being able to sample all the different options; however, the employee who I talked to today mentioned that they are trying to figure out a way to allow customers to sample while ensuring safety during this time.

Amphora Nueva is an olive oil/balsamic vinegar lover's paradise! The Lafayette location is my go-to when shopping small for birthday or holiday gifts. One wall is lined with a seemingly endless assortment of infused olive oils, with flavors ranging from Truffle, Dill, Herbs de Provence, Lavender, Maple, and many more! The opposite wall showcases their balsamic vinegar offerings such as Cara Cara Orange, Cranberry Pear, Gravensteins Apple, Espresso, Chocolate... the list goes on. I enjoy that they offer pour-it-yourself samples, complete with small pieces of tasting bread, plus descriptive signage with pairing recommendations. I also appreciate the bottle size options for every budget, starting at $7. The customer service is consistently warm, helpful, and inspiring. I've taken their advice on creating my own salad dressings, dips, shrub mocktails, etc. and their suggestions never fail. In addition to oil and vinegar, you'll find other gifts for foodies like pasta, tea, dipping bowls, spices, even olive oil based skincare.

Wonderful olive oils. Great service. Great business. I have cooked with Amphora's oils for years now, always superior in flavor and quality.

Come to think of it, it makes sense to have a store that offers balsamic vinegar and olive oil tastings in quaint downtown. The walls are lined with so many different flavors you can read about and sample. We stayed in the balsamic vinegar corner where there were all types of fruit flavors and had signs offering recommendations of how to use it (on salads, fruit, cocktails, even ice cream). We didn't wander to the olive oil section, but I definitely will next time. They have the following price breakdown for bottle size: Small: $8 Medium: $14 Large: $21 They also have tinier bottle sizes and gift bags which would be fun to give/receive. I believe the owner rang us up and she sealed our bottle for us to preserve freshness (it was just corked when purchased). She said to come back with the empty bottle for $1 off!

The shop ladies were so super friendly and kind. They said we could try any of the balsamic vinegar flavors mixed with sparking water if we wanted to. (But I thought these were only for salads? So wrong of me!) They have a glass jug with the sample flavor of the day already mixed with water. That was the first one I tried: Cranberry Pear. Ooh!!! It was so delicious. Not what I thought it would be. It tasted like a soda without all the sugars. It was actually quite refreshing and delightful. I asked what their top 3 flavors were: - Cranberry Pear - Peach - Sicilian Lemon I decided to try Peach. She added sparking water to it. Omg! That was even more delicious. I'm pretty sure any of these flavors will be a hit. Different flavored vinegars and olive oils adorned the walls! Each flavor has a sign with its name, what they are best used for, and what they are best paired with. I wish I could try them all but I can save that for another visit. They also sell pastas, tea towels, little bowls, and other cute things to go with their products. Also found out that Maison Benoit uses their products at their bakery. Love local businesses supporting each other!

They have a nice variety of gelatos, including some flavors you don't normally encounter. Both wonderful flavors, and well mixed (if you overdo the Lavender, it can taste soapy, but not here.). They're happy to provide samples if you're having a tough time choosing. Service was very good, and there's an indoor seating area. They also sell some very tempting chocolates, truffles, bon bons and chocolate bars. Plus, the staff members are total pros--they were polite, patient, and happy to offer us samples while we made up our minds. For atmosphere and service alone, this place easily earns 3 stars. Unfortunately, the actual gelato experience was a bit of a mixed bag. They have a ton of options, but the execution varied wildly: The Hits: The fig mascarpone was beautifully rich and creamy. The Miss: The cherry vanilla black pepper was a major letdown. It completely lacked any vanilla or black pepper notes, and instead tasted like a medicinal, artificial cherry cough syrup. The pistachio lemon curd was very tangy. The biggest hurdle here is the pricing. You're looking at $6.45 for a small cup (which allows up to two flavors). Once you tack on tax and tip, you are staring down a nearly $10 bill for a single small cup of ice cream. While the space is lovely and the employees are great, the value-to-price ratio just feels off for what you get. Because of the steep price point and the inconsistent flavor quality, we won't be returning for another round of this extravagant gelato.

In fact, having almost no knowledge of any of these products, I only recently bought something here because I want to support them. I got a box of Rooibos tea and a jar of Hawaiian masala (Photo 10). I look forward to buying more in the future, though one thought I had was that this store would benefit from samples.
