Whenever I'm in the Lafayette area, I make it a point to visit Diablo Foods. Decades ago, I worked for one of their competitors and I appreciate the effort that goes into the quality and selection of their offerings. -For a grocery their size, they have an excellent selection of local produce from individual farms. -Their butcher aisle is superb, so many cuts and the quality of their meats, poultry and seafood is outstanding! How many groceries carry "American wagyu-style beef?" or fresh Scottish salmon?" (Not to mention how nice their butchers are, they are so willing to help with any specific cuts or instructions you need). -The deli has a great selection of cold-cuts, salads and makes killer sandwiches. -The cheese dept has an excellently-curated selection, far better than the chain stores. -Their in-house produced entrees are delicious, as well as the best local bakery/bread offerings. -Their checkout staff are friendly, beyond simply emptying your cart. They offer assistance to your car and have "associates" in the parking lot to help with parking and cart retrieval. This is "old-school" service in the 21st century...(obviously, they can't charge chain-store prices; they don't have the same buying power), but I definitely get value when I shop there...kudos to Diablo Foods, you "rock!" read more

I have probably ordered $500 worth of sandwiches from here over the past year, which should say a lot. Their sandwiches are incredible. The staff are very friendly. I come back here once every week or two after placing an order via fax for my work place. So why only four stars? They unfortunately can get rushed, and miss stuff on the faxed in order sheets. Basic stuff: "please serve hot" or even as simple as basic ingredients to include like mayo or mustard. Don't get me wrong, I'll keep coming back here. If they could just get the orders more accurate it would be an easy 5/5! read more

Love to see Diablo Foods doing a great job as a small independent grocer. Focused on quality and customer service, they always seem to be on the mark. If you want 24 rolls of toilet paper cheap this is not your place but if you want an in house dry aged New York with paired with store selected wines, produce, cheese, and breads then this you place. Although pricey, this market has some of the best and freshest ingredients. They carry baked goods from small businesses, and make so much delicious food in house. Their meat is also very fresh. I highly recommend their sandwiches. Better than any sandwich shop in the area with better ingredients and a better price. You can't compete. Their tuna salad, macaroni salad, and chicken salad are also popular. I love their in house guacamole too. It's perfectly zesty! read more

Pretty decent prepped food. We ordered out for a large party and was quite pleased. Overall food was well seasoned, something simple that not everyone does right. Ribs were decently smokey, meaty, tender not tough, with seasoning on the sweet side. Honestly slightly better than some BBQ places I've been to. Mashed potatoes were smooth and buttery. Roasted chicken was juicy, but fairly standard flavor profile. Nothing standout but still fine if you need a generic dish for basic people. read more

This store has been in Lafayette forever but I've recently tried some of the deli offerings. Molinari salami is the best and a tasty sourdough roll with all the fixins just cannot be beat! Find the number machine and you're helped quickly unless you come at lunchtime. Love the Thai noodle and prawn salad and the curry chicken salad are other great lunches. Staff is super friendly. A good selection of beer and alcohol. Jim is hella cool. Johnny is cool af. The cashiers are cool, the guys at the deli and butcher shop are cool af, too. Everyone is cool af. Not the largest grocery store--only 10 aisles, but the selection of grocery is pretty good. Not a lot of asian foods if that's what you're shopping for. The soups are great, too. This review is only for their Pecan Bread Pudding. The bread pudding was mind-blowingly delicious and reminded me of a pecan pie but in a bread pudding format. They used bread with a thick crust (like sourdough) , which I though would not work for bread puddings but I was happily proven wrong. The tougher crust added some nice texture to the bread pudding to balance out the bread on the inside that had been softened by the custard. I believe it was priced $13, which is a bit on the higher side, but I would get this again given how delicious it was. read more

Glen at Diablo foods butcher department, was so wonderful and made my day today. I got a huge whole ham leg and I did not know what to do with it, because I could not cut it to fit my slicer. I did not know how to deal with this huge leg of ham. then I thought I might go to ask the butchers at Diablo Foods to help cut it, but I am not sure if they would or not. I went to Diablo foods meat/butcher department to ask for help. One gentleman warmly greeted me ( I am sorry I did not ask his name) and got Glen to come to help me. Diablo Foods is located in a busy plaza, so parking may be hit or miss. This sandwich spot is a deli inside a supermarket. The wait to order may take awhile - there was a long line to order and there was a long wait to get your sandwich(es). I tried their Reuben (corned beef) and salami sandwiches, both on dutch crunch. I thought they were decent for a deli/sandwich spot inside of a supermarket. I could not finish them because the portions were pretty big, so I saved them for later. read more

In my experience Diablo Foods is the 1950's Customer Service Experience Not only is the butcher department has the best meats I have ever tasted but has the service with a smile. I have never witnessed such kind service with a smile as when I went to Deli and butcher shop and when I went to check out I had a kind employee with a smile give my food to the cashier who also gave me service with a smile. I love Diablo Foods. Hands down my favorite grocery store ever. I use to own a restaurant in this amazing town and the staff use to frequent my place. Picked up 3 of their aged Rib eyes, 29.99 a pound. Super worth it!! Well, my buddy flipped the bill on these cuts. Thanks man! It was like butter in our mouths. The meat quality was just so unreal! No A-1 sauce, no Tabasco, no Crystal hot sauce (which I looooove). Nothing except a little salt and pepper and olive oil. Perfection. Apparently, we liked the Steaks haha. I shop here regularly and love many things about this store. (Except for the COVID corner, aka the crowd at the deli counter.) So I was disappointed by my experience today. I purchased the packaged Mary's chicken breasts. The package was split open and leaked raw chicken juice over all my other groceries. I washed everything twice and threw out all the packaging. But I am doubtful that I dealt with all the contamination. Then I was disappointed that the "send us a message" feature on the store's website is disabled. I will continue shopping there, but hope the store can deal with its quality control. read more

In preparation for my trek to UCSF Parnassus for a day with the hubby in his room, I knew that taking food with me was needed as their cafeteria had limited hours and selection so on Christmas Eve morning decided to pick up a sandwich and a salad. Not disappointed with my turkey with sprouts in a wheat roll. Can remember the name of it. And then I craved potato salad. Well, had to try their homemade potato salad right? And, needed some greens in the diet so I picked up a container of the kale Caesar as well. All good! Next time I get the potato salad, I'm going to add some home cooked bacon bit to it. For the kale salad, I added some orange sections and it was perfect. Always shop local people. I was early but it you get there around 11, there is fresh sushi brought it.
