This store has really stepped it up. The new owners have brought in a fresher, more local selection and made the layout much more inviting. You'll find all kinds of gems here -- from fresh gnocchi and local tortilla chips to craft coffee, Model Bakery bread, and incredible pastries. My wife and I often stop by with our family for a beer and some snacks before heading to the park -- it's become one of our favorite little rituals. Bummer the new owners removed the hand-painted murals to cover the windows with AI slop. New market is less local, less produce, lots of stuff purchased at Grocery Outlet and resold here for twice the price, it seems. Also amazing is how prices change. Picked up a bottle of whit wine we were told was $12.99. He said he had a cold one in the fridge, grabbed it, and quickly tried to remove the $9.99 tag. Slowly building itself back up to a community store. Adding in the high end local products that people gravitate too in today's world is such a plus. Especially because they ate from local vendors. Berk's Beans coffee was delicious, garlic pita chips and fresh salsa from Norcal Chips (Concord), Champagne Dressing from Virginia's Live a Little (Oakland), The Pie Company Mixed Berry Pie (Ripon)and Semmifreddi Rosemary Foccia and Cinnamion Twist Loaf (Kensington) and a Grape Ollipop for the road. Amazing conversations with the owner and nice to see small businesses come alive again. Slowly getting stocked, but its really coming back together. There were a lot of rumors that PH Market was closing, but I stopped by a few weeks ago after seeing they were still open. It turns out, they're now under new management/ownership. The store was pretty empty and rearranged, but one of the managers explained that (understandably) they're still getting situated, so shelves weren't stocked like they could be. I'm really excited for what can be, especially with food selection. The manager told me that they were talking with local butchers and meat suppliers about selling their products, which would be amazing. I do eat meat, and one knock I had with previous ownership was they didn't sell meat, be it steak, chicken, fish, etc., They had some options available, but not a lot, but again, they've just taken over, so there's still a way to go. The place was pretty quiet since it was just myself and the manager in the store. I can't wait to come back once they've stabilized and added more to the place. read more

A great little local market with an awesome selection of fresh produce! My go to market for years has been the Concord Produce Market. However, I've stopped here a few times on my way home, and I have to admit that this is a wonderful alternative. It's more expensive than the Concord Produce Market by a landslide, BUT... the produce is fresher and lasts a lot longer. Plus, it's still cheaper than what you'd find at a big box store. What's nice is that I've never seen this place busy before. I can take my time and lollygag through the aisles without having to worry about being in anyone's way. It's actually really fun and relaxing. It's a smallish market but the selection is still pretty diverse. They've also got a good amount of organic produce too. It's super neat and organized, and everything is so easy to find. They have a clearance table where you can take advantage of their discounted produce. I also have to shoutout their wine aisle. They have some great wine and local craft beer selections here. The associates are nice for the most part, but every now and again, I'll run into that one associate who seems like they just don't wanna be there. We've all had those days though, so I don't take it personally. As far as fresh local produce goes, the Pleasant Hill Market is an excellent spot to fulfill those needs. read more

I always associated this place with fresh veggies and fruit for great prices. I have NEVER been so disappointed like I was today. Almost all the fruit and veggies were close to rotting or wilted. The cashier said they don't get deliveries on the weekend, only during the week. But the way the produce was looking, they must have been half dead already getting off the truck. With gas prices the way they are, this was not worth a trip out to this store. It will be hard to convince me to come back. read more

INCREDIBLY upset by an experience I had in Pleasant Hill Market today. I was in line, about to pay for my groceries, when the cashier getting trained was asked by the owner, Preet, how much a pound of peaches cost. He said something along the lines of "2.99 I think". Preet, the OWNER, turned to this boy and said "WRONG. It's 3.99! What is wrong with you!" WORD FOR WORD, she said "what is wrong with you." Disgusting right?? The boy ended up turning to her and said "Did you just ask me 'what is wrong with you'?" She said "of course I did, this is simple stuff to remember.." something along the lines of that, at this point my ears had started ringing and I felt so uncomfortable I put my groceries down and left. There were always signs on the door saying they were short staffed, and now I can see exactly why. I'm quite upset and I won't be returning unfortunately. With the overpriced low quality produce, old cheese on the shelf, and the rude new owners I just can't ever see myself shopping again here. read more

Amazing fresh quality produce. Pleasant Hill Market like being able to go to a farmers market every day of the week. They have a wide variety of produce, cheeses, packaged meats, fresh baked pies, bread, wine, and beer. You can pick up grocery staples here but it's definitely more of a specialty market. If there is something in particular you're looking for they are responsive to phone calls. The pricing is competitive and on par with the quality you get. If you haven't discovered this store yet, you should stop by. I often stop here to purchase everything I can before going to Lunardi's or Safeway. I have compared my bills on produce and dairy products here with that at the larger stores. I always save money shopping here. It doesn't have everything I need, but that would be impossible considering the difference in size. The longer I shop here, the more it improves. Larger selection, more organic, trial introduction of new products. It is so handy and quick to stop in here for something I have run out of or need for a recipe. No parking problems, no long lines. And, of course, I feel good supporting local businesses. The thought of only having large box stores or online shopping someday gives me the chills. read more

This is my go to local shop! I absolutely love it. Lately the owner has been adding food from more parts of the world - from Portuguese pastries and wines to Spanish olive oil and french cookies. The prices are so fair and everyone who works there is great! Especially Jenna. :) Always makes me feel like a valued customer. I also know where everything is so I can just run in and get what I need quickly. Because of this store I rarely haver to go to a larger store that lacks character and is part of a corporation. Nice little produce store with a few unexpected extras. Fruit and veg all seemed ready to eat but not too ripe. What I tried--including grapes and oranges--were perfect. While a lot of the produce is no cheaper than the supermarket they have some great seasonal deals, like juicy navel oranges for just 33 cents a pound. They also have some good local cheeses and other dairy. Plus a nice eclectic selection of beer and wine. Most surprising of all they have crumpets! For this particular Englishman, crumpets are a comfort food with almost Proustian powers of nostalgia. They're hard to find so I was very surprised to find them here. Yum. This place is one of those places you drive by and say "Oooo I should stop there." Then you keep driving by and forget. Then like two weeks later you're in the neighborhood...aaagaaiin and you say the same thing. I finally stopped this time. I'm glad I did. I found everything plus more than I really wanted. Prices are ok, not farmers market type prices but its worth it. You get the freshness and major variety. I got more than veggies and fruit. I also loaded up on Milk and Ice Cream. Those items are more expensive than a chain grocery store but its all local dairy products. At the counter they have a selection of local bakery items and I got a facasia pizza that was so gooood. The best Ive had. I cant remember what the bakery is called, sorry. As I was walking out I saw a sign up in the window in the unit next to the store that said Meat Shop and Deli opening. I have a secret dream of being one of those 1950's wives who goes to the butcher to load up on my weekly meat supply. Yes, in this fantasy I'm dressed like Lucille Ball, but that's another story. I was planning a light veg-major for dinner tonight after a nice swim on this 105 degree day, and then noting I had precious few veg, I decide to try this place. It's awesome. Prices to rival any big chain, and I love to support the Little Local Guy if it doesn't take a serious stab at my pocketbook. The radishes here are the biggest, reddest I've seen other than my those from Dad's garden. The green onions, the best. The yellow and red bell peppers are priced way below the Chains and I didn't see a green pepper anywhere (yay!) They also have wine, beer, dairy, etc etc. It's a small place, a friendly place. Confess: Then I saw the pizza place nearby and scrapped all plans of a light, healthy dinner for a large half pepperoni, half pepperoni / sausage / red onion, thin crust pizza. Yum. read more

Pleasant Hill Road is a great way to get to avoid freeway traffic during rush hour. I passed the store many-many times and finally decided to stop and see what they offered. The produce looked wonderful, everything looked fresh and there was a nice selection of produce. The luscious looking fruit and vegetables were pricey. I did not see anything saying that the produce was organic; the window did advertise local produce. The Brussels sprouts that I brought home tasted great. Oh, you have NO IDEA! I have a family of all boys that eat like football players. I like to cook fresh food and this market saves our monthly budget! I do not know what I do would do without this place. The food isn't always as "pretty" as the grocery store, but the food is picked fresh and ready to eat when you get home. I shop here several times per week (at least 2 per week). The prices can not be beat! The family who runs the market is friendly and they often let my boys pick a fruit or carrot and wash it in the back for them to chomp on while I shop. I now rely on this market for more than 50% of my grocery shopping and have managed to cut my monthly budget by 60%. I can't bring myself to pay grocery produce prices anymore. read more

This little market was Produce King for a lot of years, but it's re-opened up to be a fantastic market with groceries too. The produce is not all local and organic, but there is more of it and cheaper than Safeway. For example: tomatoes on the vine, *on sale* at Safeway for $1.79 are $1.49 (organic too) regular price here. They also sell bulk grains like Quinoa and bulk Japanese rice crackers. If you like raw honey they have it here from Walnut Creek and Martinez... who knew?! There's a beverage fridge wall with cold beer wine, chilled juices and waters, and a deli meat and cheese section, but I didn't see what brands there were or from where, but nothing like Kraft. There are raviolis in the freezer from Genova delicatessen and lots of Amy's options too. read more

I don't know why I haven't reviewed this place before but this is an amazing little corner market they have absolutely wonderful produce very helpful staff a great wine selection ciders pretty much anything with that somebody who is healthy but enjoys alcohol may need. We get all of our produce from here and the farmer's market and have for years even in the crisis social distancing appears to be followed at the store we visited one time and no one felt unsafe and everyone was just happy to get their delicious fresh produce. They also have a wonderful selection of baguettes and meats and cheeses. read more

Used to come here often because it's right down the street from my house but unfortunately it has really gone downhill. A couple weeks ago I bought feta cheese and got home just to see that it was already opened and used. Today I went by and all the bread was expired by over a week. Love this place, but it is SMALL. I normally stop here for produce after hitting a regular grocery store first. Prices for non-produce items (canned goods, baking supplies, milk, juice, frozen items) are a bit higher than usual. They stock seasonal, local produce at affordable prices. Sometimes, they get a large batch of a harvest in and it's dirt cheap. They had butternut squash on sale. I got a whole squash for about a buck. Prices went back up, but they are still reasonable. For the bargain hunters: sometimes, they will have 2nd grade produce dirt cheap. I got a bag of fancy Honeycrisp and Fuji apples for only $1. They had some dents, but about 90% was usable. I made pies with these. I wish they had a better selection of olives. They have the ones soaking in water in small plastic tubs and they're really mushy. There is abundant parking all around their building. Service is friendly and you can feel good about supporting a local business. read more

They have added some unique foods, the beer selection is pretty good, but I feel like this market used to have good produce at reasonable prices. Now the prices have gone up which is understandable but like many reviews seen here the last few months I have to agree that I've seen rotten produce on the shelves quite often. I've seen moldy bread, I've also shown the employees this to let them know that patrons notice this stuff.
