Let me preface this by saying I do not usually like ice cream. Not on hot summer days. Not as a dessert. Not ever. I never seek it out. But ample hills is different. I love how the moment you step into the store, you see the different flavors you can get! It's also pretty cool in here which helps me to deal with the summer heat. I loved how the first guy told us about their free samples policy when my company and I were being indecisive about what to get. It was also pretty cool to see the rest of the workers make the ice cream in the back scenes when you are on the stairway. Food: Well, as you can already tell, they sell desserts here which is ice cream and shakes. Since they are an ice cream place, I tried their flavors. I love how you can ask for samples of each type before deciding what you want. And of course, I took advantage of that! The ones that really I appealed to me was the spicy flavor and the peanut butter flavor ice creams. For a small, you get two scoops and I decided to make each scoop different. I have to say, they tasted pretty great as a combo. I was just a little surprised at my first taste of the spicy one because it wasn't burning my sensitive tongue, but then as I continued, my tongue started to burn and I was like oh f*ck. But hey, it was still worth it! I would love to try other combinations of flavors. Price: Yes, yes. It is a mix of a slight overpriced-decent, but honestly, it's pretty worth it. The view, the workers, and most important, the flavors make it worth it to come to this place and get ice cream. The best ice cream flavors. So many to choose from but the staff is so nice and they let you try as many as you want... and the samples are big spoonfuls. I really like their service. Go ahead and try as much as you want... you deserve to pick your favorites. If you're going to get a large (lol) like me with 4 scoops, go ahead and get the 6 scoop sampler. It's a much better deal, but they don't put it on the menu. I was sad when I found out about the option and already ordered a large. Geoffrey Zakarian gives Ample Hills Creamery the seal of approval and more importantly - so do I. All jokes aside I really enjoyed my visit to Ample Hills! There was a rather large line but it moves quickly and I was able to sample several different flavors that I had wanted to try. Customer service was on point and they really were generous with samples and were happy to let you try multiple. I ended up with a small Lemon Sky for about $5 which was well worth it as these portions are filling! Some flavors are very very sweet but still interested in going back to try the rest!! read more

Ample Hills Creamery is probably my favorite classic ice cream parlor in all of NYC. This place lives up to the hype. The ice cream is assuredly decadent in the creamiest of all ice cream glory. It fully embodies what ice cream, outsized ice cream, is and takes it to another level. Rain or shine, sleet or snow, this place attracts long lines, 'cause people will be hankering for Ample Hills' sublime dessert for any occasion. I tried the salted crack caramel (with saltine crackers coated with butter, sugar and chocolate), PB Wins the Cup (with homemade peanut butter cups) and Original Cin (with cinnamon ice cream with housemade fig newtons). Ultimately, I favored the PB Wins the Cup, couldn't help loving the large chunks of peanut butter. Others I will surely want to try in the future include the classic Peppermint Pattie and the Mexican Chocolate (with cinnamon and chile). At $3.95 for a kid cup, it's not cheap, but reasonably priced given that seems to be about the market price at ice cream shops these days. Very good value compared to its competitors. read more

That was me sold. In order of deliciousness: #3 - Coffee toffee coffee - tasted just as expected. Really nice but compared to the other two it didn't leave me wanting more. #2 Peppermint Pattie - this takes mint choc chip to a whole new level. It was so deliciousness and super minty but not too minty! Highlight being the chunks of peppermint patties in it #1 The Commodor - EXCLUSIVE to this location. I was very dubious about trying this based on the description "Salty honey vanilla ice cream with housemade honeycomb candy and clusters of chocolate covered potato chips", but my BF made a very good point - they wouldnt put potato chips in if it didn't taste good. My heart (and stomach) is so happy every time I go there! You do have to go at a good time though, otherwise you'll be stuck on a pretty long line that doesn't move very fast. Great ice cream and fantastic service. I came here with some local friends this past Friday evening at around 9:30 or so, and it was pretty crowded but the line moved quickly. I approached the cashier while my friends were waiting in line because I wanted to treat my group (but knew my friends would put up a fight if I offered while they were standing there with me), and she was happy to take my card and hold it for me until my group came up to pay later on. Really accommodating of her and I appreciated that so much. I ended up with a small cup of the chocolate milk and cookies. It was really good - the chocolate ice cream was delicious and it was packed with sandwich cookies. Came here on a hot Saturday with my bestfriend. She told me about this place so we decided to stop by. It was busy, long line but it moved quickly. "Ample Hills" was actually the performer name of a girl I knew who was rather well endowed, and did magazines and videos, but not the kind that you'd want your kids to watch. You could say that any room full of men (and women) that she walked into, instantly became a "creamery." I'm not sure if this place is an homage to her, or if indeed she owns it. I have yet to see her in here, but that might be because I'm too busy staring at the menu board full of crazy combinations of ice cream, or ogling the Ooey Gooey Cake. I remember I once got my dear friend Ample Hills both Ooey and Gooey at the same time. Thems was the days. What to get: Ooey Gooey Cake What else: Whichever flavour of ice cream takes your fancy No really, what else: That's it, brainiac. Get off my case already. If it were the Ample Heels Creamery then it would basically describe the entire shoe collection of my gf and what they inspire me to do. The best thing about Ample Hills Creamery is, in my opinion, the Ooey Gooey Cake. It comes pre-wrapped but it's pre-wrapped perfection. I'm not the only one who thinks its goddess' gift to Brooklyn's endless dessert menu. I've sent several people here to try it, and they've all become as addicted as a cocaine addict locked in a Colombian export warehouse. I can't really describe it. It's pretty sweet, it's gooey, it's ooey, does that help? It's like nothing I've ever tasted before. You need to give it a try and then form your own opinion. It's one of the best cakes I've ever eaten, and it's well under $5 too. If it were the Amblin Hell Creamery, it would describe what all of Steven Spielberg's employees were trapped in for years. I wanted to try their famously good Hot Chocolate, but every time I've been here it hasn't been available, which is weird since so many people seem to have tried it. One of these days. I've tried the ice cream, though, on several occasions, and I can't say I was too thrilled. The flavours are unusual and odd, but not in a way that was pleasing to me. The one that stands out was the "Salted Crack Caramel" which tasted more bitter than anything. I'm not a bitter person in any sense of the word, so it just didn't do it for me. However, for the cake alone, Ample Hills Creamery scores a 5, whereas Ample Hills, the girls that used to turn men's rooms into creameries, as ever, scores a 10. And if it were the Armpit Hair Creamery then it would belong on some Los Angeles Yelp Talk thread where some weird guy talks about his love of his mother's armpits. And if you think this is just me being odd as usual, go and look for yourself. It actually exists. Don't shoot the messenger. I honestly don't care if it's 5 below. Ample Hills deserves a visit whenever you're close by. Ice cream is something that can be pushed to the side, and get lost in the bevy of culinary options the city has to offer, but this place stands out. Bookmarked for a long, long time and with an instagram post showing their sign that they're open on New Year's Day, I took that as a sign that I should go. From previous glowing reviews I knew I could get a flight of ice cream, 6 small scoops for $8, and sample to my heart's content. I also got another order of small and filled it up with a scoop of the egg nog ice cream and the coffee toffee. For my flight, I started calling out the names of flavors with a flourish, eager to try them all (many of those names I now forgot). And I raced home. I grabbed a cab and told the driver to step on it. Oh. My. God. This place is deserving of all the hype and hoopla. And those awards, too. Rich and creamy is the name of their game. Unique and delicious are also other names that can describe their game. The egg nog ice cream tastes unbelievably like actual egg nog- smooth, mellow ice cream with a hint of cinnamon and rum. Their strawberry and cream is also deliciously noteworthy. I tried the hazed and malted tonight, too- a velvety, buttery ice cream filled with malted chunks and chocolate bites. All incredible. Yes, the ice cream is incredible. The salted crack caramel deserves its name. Every flavor I've had has been the decadent treat that ice cream should be. And I can't wait to try all the other ridiculous fun and tasty-sounding flavors like the Bourbon Street, the Barclays Gridlock, the Gather 'Round the Campfire and more. But the vibe of this place (illustrated in the names of the flavors as well) is what makes it a genuine pleasure to walk through the doors, spend my money, and get just a little bit fatter. Over and over again. Everyone is so happy to be here. There are smiles on the faces of the scoopers, the parents, the kids (even the ugly ones!*), and the regular old adult customers as well. There's a sign on the wall that the owner can lift 10,000 lbs. (right up over his head!) and that he has perfect pitch, and can talk to animals. I believe it because he created this ice cream shop, and it is equally incredible. On a warm and sunny day, there's nothing better than getting your ice cream and eating it on one of the benches situated on the fake grass outside. The only downside would be that I was nearly castrated by the spiked fence as I leapt over to chase the girl with the "Free Hugs" t-shirt who walked by.
