The coaches are fantastic, very nice and attentive. They make sure that classes are always interesting and challenging. Everyday is different and you can actually see results very fast. You feel that you are working every muscle every day! People are nice and friendly. Feels like a big family. You don't feel lost like other regular gyms. Vegans and Vegetarians BEWARE! Amplified Fitness is a great place to work out if you fit into their mold. Despite their claims to be welcoming to all and to be able to work with different dietary restrictions, they are entirely inept when it comes to providing healthy, balanced nutrition and guidance. Avoid their six week challenges if you value your health. They preach over processed foods, provide ZERO support and constantly tell you to "just try eating some meat" while also telling you how unhealthy it is to be vegetarian or otherwise. Their business and billing practices are entirely shady. They use high pressure sales tactics and are in multiple violations of state advertising regulations. I can't speak to the quality of the trainers here, but what I will review is the six-week challenge scam. Yes, SCAM. You've all the seen the ads. They're all over Facebook for various gyms. All of them claim that you can lose 20+ pounds in six weeks for free! Sounds like a great deal! At least, to me it did. So I signed up online and registered for an "orientation." Here's where things get sketchy. I *thought* that the orientation would be a tour of gym. What it *actually* is is a high-pressure sales pitch. Think one of those awful timeshare hostage situations. The guy leads you up to the loft in the gym and gives you the whole spiel: "There's three pillars to success: fitness, nutrition, accountability, yada, yada, yada." Sounds legit... at first. But the accountability part-- that's the kicker. What he means by accountability is that you pay him $600 (yes, you read that right, SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS), he sets a "fitness goal" for you, and if (yes, only IF) you meet your goal, you get your money back. That's the "free" part. And what if, you ask, you don't make your goal? Glad ya asked, friend! Well, too bad, so sad for you. You're out 600 big ones. How they can get away with advertising their challenge as free is beyond me. Once he finishes his pitch, he hands everyone clipboards with a form to give up your credit card information right there on the spot. Several people asked if they could take the night to think about it or go home to ask their spouses ('cuz, y'know, he's asking for $600 on the spot!) and he wouldn't let them. He goes on about, "Well, there are limited spots and lots of people are waiting, so if you don't do this now, we'll have to the give the spot to someone else." Talk about keeping you hostage! I told him that I couldn't make that kind of financial commitment right now, but that I would save up for the next round. He comes back with, "Oh, we won't do this again." Well, that was at the beginning of January and just today I saw another ad promoting another six-week challenge coming up soon. Well, gee! Guess they must've change their mind! *eye-roll* Y'all, this place is shady AF. They use false advertising, they put you through sketchy high-pressure sale techniques, and they aren't afraid to lie to your face. Even if I were wealthy enough where a $600 bet wouldn't feel like a scary investment, I wouldn't trust these guys with it. In fact, someone should really tip them off that gambling is illegal in Utah, because this whole scam is one big, losing bet. Something tells me, though, that they wouldn't care about the legality of their practices. One positive that came out of this whole ordeal, though, was my motivation to prove these guys wrong. The guy set a goal for me to lose 20 lbs in six weeks. The very next day after walking out of Amplified Fitness, I walked into a well-known gym chain with a purple and yellow color scheme and joined up there for $10. I met with one of their trainers for FREE and came up with a nutrition and workout plan that would help me meet my goals. The six-week challenge would've started on January 14th. Here we are on February 8th and I've gone from 191 lbs to 170 lbs, officially surpassing the goal that Amplified gave me and proving that you don't need them and their shady schemes. Hmmmm... I had a consultation with Thomas and he made me feel like the biggest waste of his time! He was extremely rude and inconsiderate. I went in to find out more information about his boot camp and was treated like scum because I couldn't afford his $600 classes right away. He made snarky comments, made me feel like I shouldn't even be there, and scoffed at me incessantly. I was actually wanting to save the money and come back, but definitely not a chance now. I love Thomas and his team at Amplified! I've been struggling with weight loss for years and went in for a 6 week challenge. I placed a bet on myself to finally stop making excuses and guess what? I lost 42lbs in 6 weeks and joined and now I'm on week 20 and down exactly 100lbs. I read about people calling this place a scam- what it sounds like is you're not ready to take your health into your own hands. If you are ready- then shut your mouth and be ready to put in the work. Most of the trainers here are great and helpful. I inquired about canceling, fully expecting them to ask some questions and help me make the right decision. Instead I was hastily charged the early cancellation fee and that was it. I'm disappointed in a place that claims to want to help seemingly being more interested in the easy buck. My rating has nothing to do with the gym itself (I have never participated, and have only heard good things). But I am extremely upset at how I was treated when inquiring a refund for my husband. I was ignored, my number was blocked, and in the end they kept the $300 I was going to use for my own challenge. Most likely will never want anything to do with this place again. I had my annual physical in February of 2014 and my doctor told me that I was overweight and that it was starting to cause health issues, mainly high blood pressure. I met with several personal trainers in the Sandy, Utah area. I was looking for someone close to home and work who could help me lose the weight and keep it off. After meeting with several certified trainers, I kept feeling like something was missing. That is when I found Thomas, the owner of Amplified Fitness. Not only is Thomas a certified personal trainer, but he is also a nutritionist and his focus was as much on the process of losing the weight as it was creating a long-term dietary lifestyle change that I could stick to. In fact, he told me that if I was not willing to change my diet, there was no sense in spending the money to come to group fitness classes or private personal training sessions because I would see very little results. Since starting the group fitness classes with Thomas, I have dropped over 30 pounds. I have also increased strength levels beyond what I ever thought possible. On day 1 of our classes, I couldn't do a single pull-up. Now, it is not rare to be able to do 50 in a single workout. I could not dead lift or bench press my own body weight, now I can do both. Deciding to work with Thomas was one of the best things that I have ever done for myself. I have worked with many personal trainers in the past and this is the first time that I feel like I am getting way more than I am paying for. read more

I currently do the group classes at Amplified Fitness, and I started about a month ago. I could go on and on about how awesome Thomas and the other trainers are at Amplified Fitness, but I'm assuming you're on Yelp because you have some questions. 1. The classes aren't scary - but they will kick your butt. Sure, the workouts are freaking hard, and you'll be (really) sore the next day. You're going to have to ask a few questions, and you may feel a little dumb when you first start. BUT everyone at Amplified Fitness is really encouraging and welcoming to newbies. There are folks in the classes who have twelve packs, and folks (like me!) who joined to become lean and mean aaaaand lose some weight. 2. Thomas knows what's up. Utah is a state full of fad diets, and Thomas doesn't follow the fads. Thomas is incredibly knowledgable about fitness and nutrition. Thomas (and the other trainers at AF) helps people change their lifestyle, get fit and stay away from injuries. He has recently purchased software to help folks keep track of their fitness goals, what they accomplish during workouts, etc. 3. No creepers. I have heard a bunch of horror stories from friends who have joined gyms where guys make women feel really uncomfortable. That's not the case at AF. Thomas has created a culture where everyone is very supportive of each other, and it's a great space for both men and women to work out. Terrible gym and business owner. If you are looking for a gym where the owner treats you like nothing more than a paycheck, then this gym is for you. Thomas uses high pressure sales tactics and tried to charge me $150 for services I never received. Very poor business ethics and very poor customer service. There are plenty of other gyms that are much higher quality and who are WAY more honest and ethical than Thomas. Thomas was very deceptive about his pricing and service in trying to milk me for more money. It was frustrating and disappointing because i was SO looking forward to having him as a trainer. A friend referred me to him, & when we spoke I asked Thomas about his training philosophy, his credentials, his rates etc. He was helpful on the phone, but when I showed up, all the pricing had changed and was higher. I still thought it was just a miscommunication, so I committed to pay up front for a three month program at the higher rates. Then, after we scheduled my first appt, he told me I wouldn't even be working with him. I told him i wanted to at least start with him, and I was happy to get to know other trainers and work with them later. I reminded him that I was referred to HIM, asked about HIS credentials, HIS rates and HIS availability and that he never mentioned that I had to work with someone else. He than said I didnt have to work with someone else, but if I wanted to work with him the rates would go up another time! He was very deceptive as we spoke & it was clear he was just looking for angles to charge me more. Im easy going and happy to pay whatever rate, but I want a trainer that I can trust to be honest with me, not someone looking to look for any chance to milk me for more money. read more

Honestly I have debated on writing a review for months, and finally decided I should save someone their time and money. It's been almost a year since I did my "Free" six week orientation. I went in the end of last year for orientation and was lead upstairs with the rest of the group for his apparently normal high pressure sales pitch. And then when I politely declined "unfortunately it's just not in the budget so close to Christmas but thank you for your time". And his response "At your weight do you really think you can afford not to?". I'm sorry but you have to be a pretty low person to go straight to the weight card with someone who recently had a baby and let you know their insecurity about their weight. Maybe your experience will be different but I wouldn't waste your time or money. In my opinion Thomas was unprofessional, rude, and condescending. But hey I guess I can thank him for one thing; He motivated me to lose the weight on my own. I've lost 50 lbs and I didn't have to waste my money on his high pressure sales. Hand down the best personal trainer I've met or worked with in the state. He is the only trainer I know with a solid grasp on nutrition and who is up to date with modern training techniques. Ask other trainers what HIIT is, what the advantages to bands, chains, kettlebells, dynamic stretching? Most will give you a blank expression. Thomas knows how to get it done. Plus how many personal trainers do you see that are in shape? How many live the lifestyle? Thomas is one of the strongest people I know and lifts competively which shows his dedication to his craft. read more

I've been going to this gym for 3 years, no loyalty when I have a medical issue and can not attend, I pre paid my membership for a year only went for 7 months and had to cancel. When I was only credited for 2 1/2 months, leaving 2 1/2 months he kept . Everyone in the gym pays a different amount, I started only paying 125, then was quoted 155 to renew for a year. I would suggest to look for another gym, he has cut the classes down from 1 hr to 30 mins, yet increases his rates. I only kept going because of the members, as they are awesome, yet he can't keep people there because of his greed. I had to cancel my Orange Theory because of this same medical issue, they were more concerned about me getting better then my membership, I was able to cancel on them without any penalty. read more

My experience here was absolutely horrible. I felt pushed and attacked by Thomas, I felt as though he didnt care for me or my well being but for the money. There are plenty of other gyms that wont charge you $600 and pressure and push that high price on you ( although you do get it back if you reach your goal) however they say you can do $99 payments 3 times and if you reach your goal you get it back as well.... but do you really? You get your $300 back BUT it has to be put towards more training or sessions. He tried to get me to get a loan from PayPal and pressured me to pay. He was more of a sales person than a trainer. He made me feel worthless walking out of there and even told me " if you say no to this, what will you say yes too?" Very condescending. Taya I believe her name was, was so kind though I really liked her. But as for Thomas the price for the kind of treatment you get is horrible. You may have results but I'd rather not be bullied into something. Going over my body review putting me down saying that's not just a little but A LOT of body fat. The poor girl next to me got convinced to do the PayPal loan. A mother of 3 kids. I'm glad I left and I'll never go back or reccomend it to anyone. I originally saw a post on Facebook for a "Free 6 Week weight loss challenge" I was so excited/ scared but it was free so I put my info in and waited to hear back. A few days passed and I got a text from Thomas the trainer and he told me to come in and so I did and I brought my friend with me. It seemed like it was too good to be true...it was. At the end of the meeting Thomas brought up the payment for the 6 week challenge. It was very intimidating and I should have know that nothing is free. We signed up and went for about 6 weeks. I had never worked out so hard in my life but it was amazing how I felt afterwards. I lost weight and gained muscle but overall I just couldn't afford it anymore. I am giving this review because of the fact that I didn't get 6 weeks free so it is very misleading. It is $499 for 6 weeks with the opportunity to earn it back with a 20 pound loss or $180 a month for 3 months. read more
