Refused to Take Legal Tender in an Emergency His experience left me frustrated and honestly a little shaken. It was around 10:30 p.m. on Monday (06.20.2025) after a long day in Artesia taking my 90-year-old mother to multiple medical appointments, then helping out with yard work at her house. Exhausted, I left without my wallet and didn't realize until my gas light came on. Panicked about possibly stalling on the freeway, I scrounged up as much loose change as I could--just under $4. When I got to this station, the attendant (a tall male, probably in his 40s) looked at me with a flat affect when I placed the change on the counter to count out what I needed in my tank, and repeatedly told me he would only accept quarters. Giving all of my paper bills to my mother for groceries, I had about $2.75 in quarters in my goalve compartment, and the remainder in nickels, pennies, and dimes--enough for almost a gallon--but he absolutely refused to take anything but quarters. Not even a mix that totaled the same amount. I explained my situation and that I just needed a little gas to get home (20 minutes away), but there was zero compassion. I understand businesses have policies, but refusing legal U.S. tender in coins--from a woman of color in an obvious desperate situation and clearly in a dangerous bind late at night--is pretty heartless. The service I received was less than acceptable.  After driving a while, needing to stretch my legs, use the restroom, grab some coffee,  and a bite to eat, I succeed in stretching my legs. Your employee, (old Hispanic guy), needs to know the rules and be nice to customers. It was over 100 degrees outside yesterday, July 10th. I went in to get some gas and water (I go there at least twice a week to fill up the gas). Previously, no employees were saying anything about my service dog. My dog is registered service dog and this old Hispanic guy was telling me I cannot put gas nor buy water because of my service dog. I told him she was registered service dog. I hate gas stations that show a decent price, then you find out that you have to buy an expensive car wash to get a couple bucks off at the pump. Well, this one is like that. I didn't go into the AM/PM itself, I am sure it is lovely and has all the 96 oz sodas you could want to fill up your minivan cupholders. This gas station typically has one of the lowest in the area. Since it's located on a major street that leads to the Fwy it's a few cents above the lowest but worth the convenience. Prepared to heckled by someone who is soliciting or trying to sell you something. There's a subway inside and large convenience store and it's all next to a Mexican restaurant. So I go to this un-customer service like hideous place to gt gas and forgot that I didn't have any money on me except $15 and a bunch of change.. So I walk in there with the $15 along with all this change I had in my car and poured it on the counter Immediately the not-so-nice person that was working the register said she wasn't gonna take all that change like that.... so I probably should have gathered all my change in the car before I got to the counter and was so rudely accosted.... The second 2nd not-so-nice person that was on the 2nd register kind of said the same thing and they both gave this attitude like they didn't want to take my money They kind of acted like they were just better than somebody else.... They acted like they where in no mood to take my money All I was trying to do was take out like five bucks from all my change because I probably had about $10 worth of change So I smiled and calmly just took out five dollars worth of money from my change and gave them $20 total..... Walk in to cash a $6 lottery ticket. The cashier says they are not cashing them now. IT WAS SIX DOLLARS!! I then ask to purchase some tickets. He replies we're not selling them now, either! Then TAKE DOWN all the lottery signs! Worthless!!! read more

Sep 16th an employee was very rude to me when I came in, he had a go T and I went to get a drink and it was bundled up with tape, so I seperated them because I only wanted one, when I walked up to make my purchase he yelled at me, literally yelled at me for seperating them, even though they are labeled to be sold separately.
