Beef shawarma, fries and tea ordered at the counter. Place about 1/3 full, some take out orders being picked up. I get my food, sit down and take a bite of beef that has obviously been made for a couple days or sitting under a heat lamp. Quite dry. I was really hungry so was going to just eat and go. Picked up a fry- not even warm. Soggy cold fries as if they were salvaged from someone elses plate. Frustrated I returned to the counter for a refund. Can't believe it's taken me this long to try! For years I've heard about how great this spot is, but finally went to lunch here and it definitely exceeded expectations! A couple of dishes were out on the day I went so I just ordered a classic gyro. First of all, it was a lot of food if that's what you're looking for...and it was delicious! First time trying El Basha. We sat inside, it's a cozy place. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. They were pretty busy with people inside, people outside on the patio and to-go orders. We placed our order and waited and waited.. the person who took our order noticed it had take awhile and checked on us to see if we had gotten our food, she rushed to the back and our food was out shortly after. We had the gyros combo and kafta wrap combo, both were great. The gyros was piled high with meat and topped with onions, tomatoes and delicious tzatziki. The kafta was tasty in a paratha wrap with tahini. We saw others ordering platters and different appetizers, which all looked and smelled amazing. We'll be back to try more things! read more

Told my son in law that I wanted something special for lunch on my visit to Omaha. We went to El Basha for lunch. When we pulled up the line was out to the door with every table filled. The food did not disappoint. You order at the counter, get a number and sit down. We ordered the lamb kabob platter, lentil soup, tabouli salad, and gyro salad. This is cute casual spot in a strip center. You order at the counter and then find your table. The patio had nice flowers along the side. The food came out remarkably fast. I ordered the chicken shawarma over rice, which comes with a side of lentil soup or salad. I liked the lentil soup, but the chicken in the main dish was a bit dry. Went once and it immediately became one of my Omaha favorites. I love this cute little space. The food is quite reasonably priced and the portions are quite generous- we got two sandwiches with fries and hummus with pita for $30 with a tip. Now I will say once I arrived I was befuddled when I observed the frolic coming from the long line at the door but after getting my food I understood. The young lady running the cash register was quick and polite when taking my order she explained a couple of items on the menu that I was unfamiliar with. The location is a very intimate space so if you don't like crowded spaces I would recommend to get your order to go or visit the restaurant during the week when there is less people. There were about three people running the restaurant so please be patient as the cashier had to also bring out the orders. The food is definitely an acquired taste I enjoyed it considering I never had Mediterranean food before. Small businesses are important to support and I will definitely go back. Daily specials come with soup or salad, and we both opted for their killer salad! Fresh, decent portions, excellent dressing, spices, and thinly sliced onions, a bit of purple cabbage, and tomatoes. The hubs snagged the chicken schwarma over rice ($13.99), with grilled yellow/green peppers, onions, tomatoes, and drizzled with tahini sauce. Their rice? Always a plus in our book; so fragrant and paired well with the choice of protein and veggies. Plate was empty when we left! I choice the kafta kebab over rice ($12.99) with a tahini drizzle, thinly sliced onions, purple cabbage, thinly sliced tomatoes, and a trickle of garlic sauce. The kebab was grilled just right; not dry and not overly greasy, either. Paired perfectly, again! I'm telling ya, that rice gets me every time. It's been a number of years since my last visit to El Basha. One thing is consistent is they serve great Mediterranean food. I had the gyro salad and it was wonderful. Gyro meat was moist and the salad dressing was a nice compliment. I noticed a hint of mint. Oh that rhymed :). I've been to Lebanon many times and my husband is Lebanese. I cook Lebanese food and know how delicious it is. This place is very authentic. We ordered Mezze (shared plates): fried Kibbeh balls, Hummus with Shawarma, Manaeesh with Zaatar, Cauliflower and stuffed grape leaves. If you order the grape leaves ask them to serve them cold (that's how they are meant to be served but for some reason they heat them up. These aren't the meat-stuffed Grape leaves that are supposed to be served warm). I wish they rolled them smaller, I don't like them this fat. The cauliflower was very different than my Mother-in-law makes, but that could be a regional thing. The cauliflower here at El Basha was very garlicky and spicy, served with yogurt. We usually deep-fry it and serve with tahini sauce (taratur). read more

Average prices for entrées. We also had the lentil soup that was splendid and lemony! Not sure why this restaurant got good ratings while they didn't know the basics of kebob. The kebob should be juicy and tasteful. My beef kebob, chicken kebob and beef shish kebob where to the point that was almost burned out. To taste or spices on the meat. Just big portions of rice. The salad dressing was only olive oil or at least it was what it only tasted like. We did not finish our food and just walked out. The service was also below average. Our food took forever to be served while customer servise was good but it did not make up for the food quality. The Hammas also was tasteless. The taziki was just too salti. They have a small entry space allowing time before reaching the dining area. The restaurant is very intimate with the dinning area and ordering counter in close proximity. The woman at the counter was very friendly and helpful with suggestions for first timers. The timing between ordering and food being served was perfect. The food is fresh, full of flavor and the portions size was great. I've been here a few times and the food and service are awesome. They're consistent. Wow... THIS WAS GOOD!!!!! My significant other ordered the steak shawarma wrap and I ordered the chicken shawarma wrap combo (which is just an added fry and drink) we literally came 5 minutes before they closed (they're open from 11am-7:30pm) and got to order just in time. We talked about coming to this place for a while so it was now or never and I'm so glad we did. This will definitely be a place we visit very often.the food was fresh and cooked to perfection, the taste was such a pleasant surprise and nothing like I've ever had before (you know my fat self was excited about that) Customer service wasn't that great BUT it was at the very end of their nights at work and they may have just been ready to go so we understood. The prices are right, and the counter service is always fast and effective. The patio seating needs to be upgraded but we usually get take out so it doesn't matter much to us. El Basha is the only US-based place that is as good as what I had in Jordan. Rice...I usually find rice uninteresting. I don't talk a lot about rice. But, WOW! I am unsure what el Basha uses for spice in their rice, but it is fantastic. It might be saffron. Whatever it is, it makes every dish they serve better. The el Basha hummus ends a 10 year search for Middle East-quality hummus. It's smooth and perfectly done. Get.their.hummus. Their lamb is always good. If you get their gyro, you'll have to eat some of the meat before folding it up to eat the whole thing because it's overstuffed with lamb goodness. Kebabs are typically well cooked and well spiced. I've only gotten a dry kebab once here. The only negative us that they do not offer a lamb gyro and rice entree. That would be perfection. They close early (1930), and they often are full. read more

Honestly gyros are one of my favorite foods to get, so I haven't gotten too much else from here but it's just so tasty, but I will say that they have really affordable food for great quality. They have combo and platter options; the combo comes with fries and a drink, while the platter comes with potato's and a salad. Their fries have a good crisp to them, so I usually just get the combo. The falafel wrap may look small but it is PACKED with deliciousness and was a ton of food. Fries were crispy. Staff was so dang friendly our whole visit. I spent a good chunk of the past several years eating a lot of middle eastern food, and there is some amazing food out there! El Basha has great hummus, maybe the best in the Omaha area. The schwarma was ok, but not the best I've eaten. And the schwarma over rice was good with the veggies! The have a great wine selection for the type of restaurant it is though, and I definitely recommend getting a glass while you're eating there.
