Second visit to legacy gyros. It's a family run business and those that work there are always very friendly. Their menu is on three tv screens behind the counter where you order your meals. Ordered for delivery and loved the gyro surpreme, falafel, fries, and hummus. Gyro was yummy and filling lots of onions and feta! Thick fresh tasting gyro meat. Even the fries here were seasoned well and delicious and usually I don't like fries that much. My only complaints are the scoop of hummus was tiny and the falafel appetizer had some unnecessary mixed old salad pieces in it I could have done without. This was my first visit. I got a meat sampler, which was enough for two medium-sized meals. The gyro meat was very good. They chicken and steak kebabs were cooked perfectly, but didn't have the subtle seasonings that I expect from the very best Greek restaurants. Parking wasn't too bad, since they're in a less-traveled part of the shopping center. But I encountered several near-collisions on the way in (typical of Legacy). Prices are in line with other Gyro places in Omaha (maybe a bit high, to pay for the premium location). For dine-in, I appreciated the real plates and silverware. I'm a Covid-conscious diner. Ventilation seemed pretty good, and there is a decent amount of space between tables. They have hand sanitizer at the tables, which doesn't do much for Covid but is a great idea anyway. read more

Service was quick and staff was friendly. It's a pretty casual setting and on the smaller side so it feels pretty intimate but not like romantic date night intimate. First of all, the gyro meat and pita were excellent and the Tabouleh salad was absolutely yummy. There's next to no gyros in far west O right now (2024) and I LOVE Mediterranean food. I get Legacy about twice a month for lunch and get the gyro platter on rice and it is enough food for two or three lunches!! Big fan of Legacy and the people who work in the restaurant are lovely. read more

Today was rough for Legacy. I am not sure what changed but the last time we ordered after the new management took over everything was good. Nice big long pieces of gyro meat which is great on a pita. Consistently the best spot in Omaha and Lincoln for a gyro and baklava. With all the classic Greek establishments closer to downtown Omaha, that's saying something. I'm not alone in this opinion - the numerous "Best of Omaha" signs are another indication that your meal is going to be delicious. Based on the decor it appears the family that runs Legacy Gyros hails from the other side of the Aegean Sea, but I'm not sophisticated enough to be able to tell if this is the reason for the subtle differences in their food from other gyro spots, or if it's more a reflection of their commitment to quality. Whatever the case, it's worth trying some Turkish Delight next time you visit! read more

The folks are nice and did redo my order. I should have just asked for a completely different dish after my food came out cold because I could tell from beginning it tasted bad. I think the oil the falafel was fried in was old. The gyros were small compared to other places in town. It also tasted overcooked and was super oily. Everything appeared to be brought in on a truck which explains the pricing although I've had some things made fresh at other local places with prices pretty similar to this. This small space seats about 30 inside inside with a few more tables outside. The day I was there, it was quite cold because the door kept opening with a blast of air each time. They appear to have a healthy takeaway service based on the traffic. The menu is large with all the usual suspects plus a few others, such as Alexander gyros and flogeres. I didn't try it, but the Turkish lentil soup looked delicious. The soda machine has typical Pepsi products, but the water came out of the iced tea machine. There are two cold cases with various bottled and canned drinks including Jumex, chocolate milk, lemonade, Gatorade, and Red Bull amongst the mix. Ordering is done at the counter and the food is brought to your table. I had the falafel sandwich and a baklava-- both delicious! The falafel was served on a pita base with some kind of finely chopped salad. It seemed to have lettuce, red cabbage, onion, garlic, tomato, and other ingredients I couldn't identify but I loved it. The four falafel rounds had a slight spicy kick with a crisp outside and fluffy inside; very tasty. I used a knife and fork to eat it with a side of tzatziki. The baklava was everything you would want. Definitely a place I'll be visiting again. read more

Disorganized, expensive and mediocre. Ordered chicken gyro platter and house specialty Alexander gyro from Legacy for pickup. They said 30 minutes. Arrived at the appointed time. Meanwhile they had run out of Alexander sauce, so they had made nothing so far. I substituted a regular gyro. Took them a while to get around to making that one. Since I had placed original order a half hour earlier that didn't sit real well. Suggestion: keep the staff apprised of what is about to run out so they don't take orders they can't fill. Finally arrived home. Chicken gyro was OK but greasy so I was told. My gyro was OK, borderline good. The fries and salad that turned chicken gyro into a platter were skimpy and not worth the $4 upcharge. Jim and Jennie's was the Greek food hangout in our old neighborhood. They aren't close anymore, but I will be making the trek back before trying Legacy again. read more

I am a huge fan of Mediterranean food and will take any opportunity I get to try some. Legacy Gyros is the West Omaha Mediterranean hotspot and I had to see what the hype was all about. FOOD : I ordered two chicken Kabobs and they came on a warm pita with a side of rice, sautéed onions, and pickled beets and my husband ordered the beef Gyro with fries. We also got a side of hummus that I was slightly disappointed with, despite its appealing presentation. Starting with the chicken kabob, I actually really enjoyed the kabob and the seasoning they used. Something that is a huge deal breaker for me is whether or not I get a fatty / chewy piece that makes me feel sick enough not to want to finish. With Legacy however, I felt confident in their chicken and in the cut and didn't have one single piece that had a fatty / chewy / bone in it... THATS BIG! At least for me. The pita bread was good but nothing groundbreaking. Something I was disappointed in was seeing their hummus come straight out of a tub and not at all authentic. I appreciate Mediterranean that is authentic is it gets, and making their own homemade hummus you'd think would be a non-negotiable. Alas, it was still good, but not nearly as good as some other spots in town who do it the old fashioned way. The rice was a bit cold and it had almost a vanilla flavor in it which was an interesting touch and not terrible, but I didn't fancy eating more than a fork full. The pickled beets were awesome, however, and a fabulous addition to the plate giving it the kick it needed. My husband really liked his gyro and said that Legacy has the best fries in town - other than that, didn't have much to say except a thumbs up with his mouth full! STAFF / ATMOSPHERE : It's more of a fast food spot than a sit down restaurant. You order up front and from there they will bring your plate out to you. The staff was pretty nice and it took about 20 minutes fir our food to come out, I guess due to a high number of takeout orders! Overall I wouldn't be opposed to going back, but if we could go to a different spot in town I would probably pick it over Legacy. read more

Very good gyro spot that I drive past all the time but never stopped to try until last week. Got it to go for dinner I ordered the gyro supreme with fries. The gyro meat was seasoned perfectly, the fries were really good and they had flavorful taziki sauce. My only knock is that the gyros aren't very big I wish they gave you more food but the quality is as good as anywhere. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a good gyro out west. read more

We loved this hidden jewel under previous ownership, and continued to patronize after the mid-pandemic sale, just less frequently. Sadly, today will probably be our last visit. It is to be expected that new owners would want to make things their own, and I'm guessing the previous owners might have shared some of their secrets to success -- grilling the gyro meat slices, the cucumbery-rich tzatziki (that took them a few years to develop) -- but if that was the case, those features were now missing on this trip. The gyro meat added to a small Greek salad usually is a treat -- copious amounts on top of mixed greens, tomatoes, (onions and peppers if you like), feta cheese and kalamata olives. But this time, the meat was dry and had no grill flavor. The tzatziki tasted more like ranch dressing (which is not a favorite), and even the lettuce seemed less than stellar. The hummus was delicious, and accompanying pita OK, but if it started out warmed, it had lost that by the time we got home, and it seemed less "fluffy." Closing out the experience, we had baklava. It was a nice-sized piece, not too wet, not too sweet, but that's it. Nothing to complain about, likewise nothing to rave about. I'm sad to lose what used to be a great spot. read more
