Hey, it's 6/6/26 (Anniversary of D-Day), so it's time for a review of the #6 train! Back in the…read moreday, I rode the IRT Lexington Ave local train from Canal St to 96th St (and back) every day for 6 years to and from school. The ride was typically 1/2 hour long (barring delays) starting at 7:30am, since it was a local train. I can still remember all 9 stops along the way. The 1/2 hr ride was also good for finishing up last minute homework, reading assignments or just a quick nap. Sometimes we would meet friends along the way that got on at intermediate stops. As the train went uptown, it gets more and more crowded, so we were lucky to get on towards the beginning of the route to get seats. Back then, there was no air-conditioning, just a fan built into the roof of the subway car and during the summers, it was unbearable. If you sat at the end of the car, you can open up the sliding door, just to get a breeze. It was also fun to ride in the front car next to the motorman's compartment and look out the front window as the train is rolling through the tunnels at 30 mph.

The train is decent but it is the local train. Let's say you are trying to go from 1st stop to uptown like 125th street station, it might take 35 or 40 mins on this local train and it can be less crowded than an express train and you know what, maybe it Is possible to get a seat as well. It does get crowded ( depending on the time of day or night) though as well during rush hour especially at busy stops like Union Square 14th street, 42nd street grand central station or 86 TH street ( one of the busiest).

They sectioned the station to house a variety of places to watch sports, grab drinks, good eats, work, or catch a nap. Of course it's always packed because folks are constantly traveling. But, I feel comfortable in this place because of its development and open layout. Beware however, the wait time to see your train track is long and the wait time to get in the crowded elevator or on the escalator is even longer. That's my only pet peeve. They need more options for folks to access the lower level.

I was there before 9am which might have aided in my extremely pleasant experience - so wide and empty and bright and cool and airy. I love the shockingly humane Amtrak seating area, with wide cushioned seats and multiple little nooks to hole up in while you wait for an announcement of where to go. Plus the food offerings here absolutely rule - Magnolia Bakery next to Blue Bottle Coffee AND a Laudreé macaron stand!?!?!? Nevermind the ramen, burgers, bagels, ice cream, pizza, salad and bar options.... My wallet sure hates me but shit, that's like everything I coulda dreamed for in one nicely laid out train station. Maybe in less than ten years this place will become a hellhole like everywhere else in Manhattan (love you baby, never gonna leave ya) but for now this is sure a bright utopian spot in our dystopian existence. Find more excuses to take trains, people! Or maybe just loiter around this place on a train spotting date. That actually doesn't sound half bad now that I think about it.....

It connects over 500 destinations, including big cities like Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Portland, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Washington, D.C. and more. One time I thought I wanted to arrive in NYC by train from Miami Florida. It's the old romantic movies I had seen creating visions of glamour and excitement as you are welcomed in Penn Station. Even though I was being met by my daughter I anticipated the glamour of arrival. I also remembered my train ride from Florida to New York with my Mother when I was little. I had so much fun and my mother had motion sickness the whole way! As I should have known a trip of that length would be uncomfortable unless you had a sleeping car. The train was crowded too because I decided to attempt this in July. All the kids were out of school and going to theme parks. The bathroom became filthy in time and the children impatient with the ride. The parents impatient with the children. I sat with my headphones music blasting and looked out the window during daylight hours. The experience was miserable on the return trip also because I cried all the way back to Florida. I had plenty of time during that train ride to make a decision and a plan to move back to NYC. The experience is not one I want to repeat. We were held up in Florida by railroad crossings during Florida tropical downpours. In Washington D.C. we were held up by train problems and train traffic trying to get in and out. When I finally arrived my daughter greeted me with a look of chagrin because she couldn't find me. This was pre cell phones. By the time I arrived I was traveling a full 24 hours at least. From then on I took a plane! I'm not saying I wouldn't try one of their travel packages for a short excursion. I do think car travel is still my favorite!

I am a petite person so the seats rarely cause me discomfort even in Coach class. I don't mind that they are not plush. The overhead rack can be a little tricky for me to put heavier luggage inside but there's usually another passenger or staff to help me if I ask. Bathrooms are tight but usable. I do not eat at the cafe car but have seen others purchase coffee and snacks. The staff are usually phenomenal. I really appreciate everything they do to make my trip comfortable and inform me! Now... The service delays SUCK and I hope they can find a way to lessen the occurances... a few minutes is one thing but 2+ hours is a pain and often makes me miss important meetings, transfers, etc. The wifi is horrible.

I just want to make sure that I'm clear about the failed "Lowest Price Guarantee". After making two separate efforts to clarify why Precision's price quote was so high and why the Lowest Price Guarantee wasn't being honored, I went with another company. And, I'm really happy that I did. The company that earned my business, was not only comparable, but, in my opinion even superior. Muhammad's response appears to indicate that the companies that gave me price quotes were somehow inferior. Precision has been in business 18 years, and the company I went with has been in business longer. Precision's price quote was much higher than the competition and was for a Cadillac or Volvo sedan, not the beautiful new black SUV that picked up my girlfriend. Lastly, the professional chauffer that was our driver, was impeccably dressed in a black suit and tie. Our driver had over 30 years experience as a licensed, professional chauffer. This gentleman even showed up 25 minutes early! What an incredible experience! Muhammad, I truly appreciate your response and your generous offer. The purpose of this updated review was to clarify that the company that we went with, was not inferior in any way. For some reason, you referenced Uber or a taxi service in your response. I hired a superior, licensed, insured and incredibly professional competitor. Price was certainly not the only deciding factor. I'm hopeful, that this could be a learning opportunity for you and you organization in regards to your " Lowest Price Guarantee". Thank you again.
