Hey, it's 6/6/26 (Anniversary of D-Day), so it's time for a review of the #6 train! Back in the day, I rode the IRT Lexington Ave local train from Canal St to 96th St (and back) every day for 6 years to and from school. The ride was typically 1/2 hour long (barring delays) starting at 7:30am, since it was a local train. I can still remember all 9 stops along the way. The 1/2 hr ride was also good for finishing up last minute homework, reading assignments or just a quick nap. Sometimes we would meet friends along the way that got on at intermediate stops. As the train went uptown, it gets more and more crowded, so we were lucky to get on towards the beginning of the route to get seats. Back then, there was no air-conditioning, just a fan built into the roof of the subway car and during the summers, it was unbearable. If you sat at the end of the car, you can open up the sliding door, just to get a breeze. It was also fun to ride in the front car next to the motorman's compartment and look out the front window as the train is rolling through the tunnels at 30 mph. read more

The train is decent but it is the local train. I would say during peak rush hour during the week say 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm, you sometimes end up gaining more ground on that local 6 train instead of the number 4 or number 5 train. Let's say you are trying to go from 1st stop to uptown like 125th street station, it might take 35 or 40 mins on this local train and it can be less crowded than an express train and you know what, maybe it Is possible to get a seat as well. It does get crowded ( depending on the time of day or night) though as well during rush hour especially at busy stops like Union Square 14th street, 42nd street grand central station or 86 TH street ( one of the busiest). read more

Theres someone smoking or sleeping on every cart. its always delayed or it stops at parkchester. it feels like they purposely delay the last stop so we can miss the bx12 sbs by 1 min. read more

A Yelp Review a day keeps the blues away. Four Stars for the Six Train because I have ridden it more than any other. I have lived a couple blocks away all except two years of the sixteen I've been in Manhattan. I took it to work every day. I would give it Five Stars except for the crowds. I do my best to ride off peak time. I leave for places way in advance so as not to be late. I must admit I find I can use the 2nd Avenue Q Train now and it's just as good. With the Q you're stuck sitting underground at times. I'm not happy with the anxiety attacks I get doing that. I attribute the issues with all lines to poor planning. I'm going to say on a positive note. When you consider the number of people who live and work in NYC, we're doing a pretty darn good job!! read more

Don't be fooled by the rocks that I got, I'm still...in still Alexa from the block. Used to Uber but now I train a lot and everyone knows where I came from (not the Bronx) Famously named after JLos debut album, the 6 train takes you all the way up north from the Bronx down south in a straight line to Manhattan making it a very viable commute for the heartbeat of NYC. Yes, trains aren't glamorous but this line does its job and takes you where you gotta go. You'll see all kinds of weird NY stuff going on but just grab a seat or hang on to a pole while riding this quintessential part of the NYC metro train. Miss your stop? There's free WiFi to configure a new route or you can always ask someone around you for assistance. Plenty of shuttles transfer from here multiple times a day so people are very familiar with this line because It runs through the heart of NYC without skipping a beat. Yes, it's gross sometimes but buckle up-this is a die hard city and you're just a single inhabitants of 16 million. Diversity is all amongst you so take it all in. read more

I used to take the 6 line a lot but only for a few stops. I always felt like no matter what, you didn't wait too long for a train. However, I also felt like it was always packed or full. It runs local along the eastside and before the 2nd Ave lines opened it was the only one. No sure if the new lines have helped the congestion on this line but I think that was the theory. The subway cars themselves are generally clean given the amount of people that use this line. The cars are also pretty new though not the brand new ones. Easy line to use. read more

Oh SNAP. Only 2 reviews for the 6 train?! Isn't this the most mutually hated line in NYC? So much so that it justified the revival and construction of the Second Avenue line???? Wow, I really expected a sea of virtual pitch forks here but it doesn't hurt to start the conversation... Now there was point in time where I would travel back forth to the Bronx very often. I know what the 6 train is like. If you're claustrophobic and/or convinced the 6 train is the physical location of hell, I wouldn't argue you with you. You'd be on the money. The MTA does their best to run this train as frequently as possible during rush hour but in this overflowing metropolis, it doesn't do much. Even if the trains are running every second, no matter what train station you're on in Manhattan, the platform feels like it's about to explode. EVEN after the people board on the train. So when you finally gather up the courage to finally squish yourself onto the train, the entire ride will be a mental debate with yourself, on whether any of the 5 bodies against you are also sexually harassing you. read more

This train is fucking disgusting!!!!!!!. I'm still going to take this shitty train to grand central to transfer the flushing line. Anyway stick with the subject, last time after going to Queens, I was sitting down and playing with my smartphone, but when I saw a little creature crawling on the wall and when I looked at it, it was a goddamn roach. It was crawling all over the seat where I sat and I left. Same with the R train, these type of trains should be extinct because back then people threw garbage on the floor and eating in the train. That's why roaches are coming in those trains. read more

I am not a consistent rider of the 6th Train, so I cannot tell you anything more than that I am appreciative that I can ride on this subway over being above ground in bumper to bumper traffic. Today was a real hot day and the subway AC was not working well. Plus the subway was moving slow due to some issues on the line. So I was sweating on the 6th and for sure was going to be late for my meeting. And I still was happier to be on that subway then the NYC above ground traffic. read more

The 6 Train. We are very well acquainted. Maybe too well acquainted. For years I had to take you to school. Squished in like a sardine... actually, I think sardines get more space in their cans. Unwilling, getting more intimate than I ever wanted to with a stranger... well, more than I wanted to sober. Getting into the train car is like a game of tetris. "This stop is 68th Street - Hunter College," getting off before the doors close is an obstacle course. Finally made it to school, only to have to repeat this on the way home. Until one day ::light shines through the clouds:: I discovered, instead of being lazy, I could have a much more pleasant experience, if I just took the F to 63rd and walked five blocks. Maybe with the opening of the 2nd Avenue line, the sardine squash will subside a bit. Until then 6 train, may we only meet on rare occasions. read more

Rode the subway Saturday night after work inside car # 1954 and the vents for the air conditioning have visible signs of "mold". They are leaking water and the floors wet. What are they doing at the last stop at Pelham Bay Park? Why don't they take it out of service? All they do is mop the floor and don't even attempt to bleach out the mold? WTF we pay overpriced subway fares for? The MTA executives line they pockets with bonuses and talk shit about needing more funding for deficits? Whose going to clear the Mold? That's why the Bronx has high cases of asthma. ....... I am happy people jump turnstiles and walk into buses without paying because this is bull sh!t. read more

New York City took a firm stance against the people of this city and said let's get the dumbest fucking people of all time to work on this train line. They are always delayed and most of the time the cars do not have air condition. You would think since they fucking suck they would at least invest in air condition or AC at the stations, but no sir. These fucks are to dumb to even recognize that. I know logistics for public transportation in one of the worlds busiest city is difficult, but maybe that's why we need someone with an IQ over 55 to work there. Fuck you MTA. Doesn't follow schedule, dirty, and inconsistent. Will have work being done on certain stops and instead of drivers saying they're no stops today at the stops due to construction they just say this trains last stop will be _____. It would be a lot more helpful to know that there won't be a train going to those stops until 5pm. Express trains will randomly change and stop for long periods of time in between stops. At rush hour times their also seems to be less trains running making it so more trains are packed with people standing elbow to elbow. read more

Very unreliable. Lots of delays and random closures. It's hard to figure out when the train's even running.

Pretty mush your regular train ur fast but ur slow ur hot and cold I love that it has the old trains I feel like it's the best thing to happen to the 6 line it's not of my favorite it pretty mush ok not bad but not good in the middle. I used to live in Throgs Neck, and the 6 Train was my method of getting into the city most of the time unless I took the express bus. To put it mildly, it's was a hit or miss. It was efficient when it ran Express in the Bronx during Rush Hours, and then around 2011-2012 I believe, they extended the Express times by an hour in the morning and an extra hour earlier in the afternoon, leaving only about an hour with strictly local service on weekdays. This was the best part about the 6. However, just like the 4 and 5, it doesn't go through very nice areas in the Bronx, such is Hunts Point, Port Morris, Mott Haven, and the South Bronx. All of the line in Manhattan except 125th Street is good and all stops between Parkchester and Pelham Bay Park are good. We have been followed off the train before and threatened, AND it was an Express. So we were stuck with this person for a while between Hunts Point and Parkchester. There have been delays and closed stations, and once we sat at Parkchester for 45 minutes with the track power OFF due to someone on the tracks (not sure why extreme measures were taken to THAT point. My best possible advice is to only take the 6 Local into the Bronx (between 138th Street and Parkchester if you have to. The Express is ok, because it only stops at 138th, Hunts Point Avenue, and Parkchester. Then it's in the safe zone. Again, it's a hit or miss. read more

Worst service ever. The expected time is 7 minutes from last 30 minutes. This train is never on time no matter what hour of the day it is. It is faster to walk instead of taking the 6 train. read more
