Amtrak is a what we need across all of the United States. For the most part Amtrak is a cheaper, safer, and more reliable way to travel. For me, the service inside the train cars have always been cordial and kind. Any issues I've had with Amtrak has always been a weather issue which resulted in delays, yes I can get upset at that but like I don't because at the end of the day I'm in a comfortable seat with proper airflow and food available. That's better than a plane in my opinion. read more

I secured a roomette. It's amazing how your memory of something can turn out to be better than the actual thing. In my mind this room was bigger than it was. My attendant, Ray, was so helpful, but we could not figure out how to get my huge suitcase and me in that space to make it into a bedroom. Other than that it was as I remembered. A good way to travel. In the way back I will check my bag so I can truly relax. read more

Acela was completely filthy on both legs of our roundtrip. On the way back, the toilet didn't even flush. It was worse than you regular train. The bathrooms were filthy, the windows were filthy, and the train compartments were filthy. Why do have someone collecting trash during the trip when it would be better to have someone regular clean the train compartments? read more

Amtrak is very affordable if you prepurchase your tickets before your trip. Due to the shutdown we couldn't get the flights we wanted l, so we took the train from NYC to Wilimgton. I had not been on a train in about 30 years. They've done a great job remodeling the interior. Lots of leg room, and can recline back further than a plane. If you haven't ridden in awhile, consider a train trip! I loved that the conductors have gone back to the retro caps I remember from my childhood. Very personable conductor and we really enjoyed our two hour trip. read more

What a debacle. I got on the train, which was 3 hours late out of Miami, in Palaka. First, I had purchased a room, and they tried to put me in a roomette. Getting on and off the train w/that little yellow step is a freaking joke. Once settled, it was too late for supper (since the train was already 3 hours behind schedule). The floors were nasty, stains all over the chairs/seats, the shower dripped all night long and the door between the cars shook like it was about to fall off the hinges. I shoved towels under the door to help it quiet some. Breakfast went off without a hitch as did lunch at 1PM. Fast forward to 7 pm. There is no sign/word of supper. For the amount of money one pays for these services, there seems to be no excuse not to at least have a working microwave. There was a problem with the kitchen in the car, so no supper. The other cafe car was also out of commission, because they had to restock. This car is 6 hours late and there is no food for anyone to purchase. Completely unacceptable. When we finally go to my destination, the people in charge of boarding told my party that was waiting for me that I had cancelled my trip. I had to disembark the train way up the tracks into the gravel. Now, I am not in that bad of shape, but the train was off the ground about 4 feet. So, I have my bag on my back and have to jump out of the train onto a square yellow stepping stool that is placed on the gravel along the tracks. This is not what I was expecting at all. Since they told my party that I had cancelled, I had to wait an additional 20 minutes on the platform w/no one around for them to come back. Worst travel experience EVER. read more

I took the Acela from Boston to New York City, first class, and the experience was solid. In first class, you get a free prepared meal and an alcoholic or other beverage. The train was on time and the seats were comfortable, the entire experience was seamless and smooth, I would do it again for sure. read more

We took the train from Boston to New York and took the Acela in first class which was absolutely amazing especially with the great service free drinks and a decent meal . Now I will say the back bay station needs some cleaning up but once you get on the train it is smooth sailing from there it's close to a 4 hour train ride but it really does go by quick with all the great views from the train and it was very comfortable. I can't wait to go on some further rides and experience even more. read more

Negative 0 if possible. I rarely write reviews like this, but my experience with Amtrak's so-called "upgrade" process was frustrating enough to warrant a warning to others. Amtrak presents seat and room upgrades as simple, flexible options--either "bid" for a lower price or pay what appears to be a straightforward upgrade fee. The way it's positioned makes it feel like a standard transaction: you select an upgrade, pay, and secure a better experience. Nothing in that process clearly signals that you're entering into something fundamentally different from a normal purchase. Here's where it becomes incredibly misleading. Despite offering what looks like a direct, full-price upgrade option, Amtrak still categorizes the transaction under their "bid" system. That distinction might sound minor, but it has major consequences. When my trip had to be canceled due to work, I was told that the money I paid for the upgrade was non-refundable and ineligible for a voucher--because it was technically a "bid." Calling this a "bid" after the fact feels like a convenient loophole, not a transparent policy. If customers are paying what appears to be a fixed upgrade price, it should be treated like any other fare add-on--not hidden behind terminology that strips away flexibility and consumer protection. To make matters worse, customer service was entirely unhelpful. There was no willingness to acknowledge how confusing or misleading the process is, let alone offer a reasonable resolution. The experience felt rigid, dismissive, and completely disconnected from the customer experience they claim to value. Overall, this left a really bad impression. What should have been a simple upgrade turned into a frustrating lesson in fine print and policy technicalities. Amtrak needs to seriously rethink how they present and handle these upgrades--because right now, it feels deceptive, not customer-friendly. 6/21/26 Train 64, Niagara Falls Canada to Moynihan Station NYC. Train was delayed for almost 2 hours. Cafe attendant from Niagara Falls NY to Albany was rude. Passengers did not get an explanation or apology for the delay. Very unprofessional! read more

People are hard on Amtrak. We get it. Planes are faster. These days they may also be cheaper. Sometimes people get delayed. Same can happen with any travel method. I've traveled Amtrak many times, to multiple cities, on rides of various lengths. 12 hours to New Orleans in a sleeper car. 8 hours to Chicago in a sleeper car. An hour or so to Philly in first/business class. 3 hours to DC from NYC first/business class. I've not ridden in their coach, but I've ridden in regular or what would be considered coach seats in other types of trains, and I still find those fine. Yes, in first class I get complimentary meals, snacks, and cocktails. And on this latest trip from NYC to DC, I got a hot towel for my face at the end. Service was excellent. Seat was wide and comfortable. Table worked great so you can do some work on the laptop. Wifi worked great for me. I was worried about my baggage . . . I thought it was supposed to be checked, but Acela trains generally don't check baggage. Looking online, it looked like there were restrictions . . . and here I was, with at least one large, oversized bag, and another one that was pretty heavy. No one hassled me. They said, "there's a rack right inside the door." I was able to put my large/heavy bags on the rack. Though the other people who brought smaller/size appropriate bags had plenty of space in the overhead bins (similar to airlines). Some reviews complained about service, but everyone was so responsive, attentive, and helpful to me. Overall, I love train travel. No, it's not as fast as flying. Yes, sometimes it can cost more (sometimes, depending on the situation). But it has this romance to it. You can read, relax, gaze out the window. You have to slow down. Arrived one hour before my departure time. Was only then notified train was running three hours late. I inquired if there were other alternatives or earlier trains and was sent to another building. Customer Service, four people laughing and chatting in a room while ignoring those of us waiting, had absolutely no information and referred me to Ticketing. That line was so long that I went back to Customer Service who ultimately said there were no earlier trains. I then asked why they had sent me to ticketing if they knew, as I had told them my situation, I would be unable to leave NYC sooner. They just shrugged their shoulders and sent me on my way, no apology. Fast forward....waited in an Amtrak designated area for hours that was overrun with people all looking for electric outlets (nearly none that worked) and no room to even cross your legs. The departure time kept changing, getting longer, and no announcements. Finally, nearly four hours later, was rushed on a train that had little to no air or WIFI and a filthy bathroom. We inched our way forward, why not accelerate and try to make up for a little time is a mystery and one they did not share, and getting information from agents on the train proved useless. To say this was an exhausting journey would be an understatement. I have taken Amtrak many, many times over the last number of decades and it has been the rare occasion that I have felt satisfied. I can count on one hand the times they leave on time. More than once they sold me a ticket and had me stand in the isle the entire trip (hours). They don't enforce quiet car rules, or any that I can tell, rest rooms are unequipped and unclean, patrons are drinking alcohol and loud and nothing is done, trash is left on the seats and floor and, generally, there is a feeling that customers should shut up and simply be grateful. Well, here's a clue Amtrak....take a trip to other parts of the globe and see how real trains operate and the meaning of efficient, customer service and cost friendly. It's disgraceful this country has no better option than this abysmally run system and I advise those who can to take the bus, yes the bus, to do so whenever and if ever they can. Oh, and as a final note to illustrate, I received a notice (5 of the same one after the other) that my train was running late. It's a shame those didn't arrive on my actual travel day. We are frequent riders of Amtrak and have noticed the service levels have dropped. Most recently, we travelled on the Amtrak Keystone from Paoli to New York Monayain station. The conductors out bound were not professional and simply rude. The announcement was loud and insensitive for some first time travelers especially FIFA customers for whom English is not their first language. The announcement stated if you have a pink ticket to get off the train, rather than explaining how to get a ticket or offer some guidance, customers were dismissed in an abrasive and aggressive manner. The train had mechanical problem which caused it to travel less than 25 mph. We were late arriving into New York since we had engagement for which we were both late for. With no apologies, Amtrak staff offer no plausible business reason for the delay. IN bound at the New York station is a zoo which Amtrak thrives on . The staff would not provide answers for example which track the train would leave from until the very last few minutes where there is a mad dash to get to the queue wit's several bags, family members, babies and kids in tow, Amtrak treats its customers like animals, as they lack simple etiquette and professionalism. I would not recommend Amtrak and will not be travelling on Amtrak in th future. read more

This is a review for Amtrak's Metropolitan Lounge at the Amtrak Moynihan Station in NYC. It is available for passengers riding in the First Class car. You have to present your day-of-ticket to enter. Day passes are available to coach class for a fee plus their day of Amtrak ticket. The Metropolitan room in a nutshell--off the hook for little ole me and my companion. Staff is great. Courteous and helpful. They have a self-serve hot coffee/tea/hot cocoa station. You can order your complimentary sandwiches, salads, and various pastries from the sleek food service counter. They also have a self-service alcove for snacks (like chips, meal bars and popcorn) that you can take with you on your journey if you like. There is a cash bar available for those wanting a little something harder before your trip. The bathrooms are clean. I can only speak for the women's bathroom. There was even a nice nursing room for mothers that includes a changing table, sink, and a comfortable chair. There are complimentary lockers to leave your luggage in so you aren't dragging it with you all over the lounge. There is plenty of charging blocks for plugs and USBs scattered throughout the lounge on tables and wall outlets (not a whole lot) for those that need it. There are electronic boards located about the lounge that provide updated information on train arrivals and departures. The front desk also makes sure to call out your name to remind you if you ask for this service (which is really reserved for those needed extra time to board and a "Red Cap" to escort you to your train and handle your luggage--note: have tip money). I'm happy to partake of this lounge again when I travel on Amtrak. read more

Took Amtrak back from DeLand, Florida to Penn Station. It's about 24 hours from 2pm to 11 12 pm next day. Trip was good. Only complaint was that the dinner and breakfast we had was dissapointing. Seats were fine - roomy, comfortable, clean. Customer service was fine - courteous people. Did not use the cafe car. Not worth the price Amtrak's service has been declining for years, and this trip was the final straw. I paid nearly $500 round-trip from NYC to Providence and dealt with overbooked trains, dirty cars, long delays, and indifferent staff. The last trip included a 6+ hour delay due to a power outage, with no help, no communication, and no accountability. Staff at PVD were rude and disengaged. Providence Station has also been under construction forever--no escalators, one elevator, poor accessibility. I ended up taking a $50 last-minute bus to get back to NYC--cheaper, faster, and far less stressful than Amtrak. At these prices, this level of service is unacceptable. I'm done. read more

We paid as a couple $3000+ travel insurance about $200 on the bedroom for the Crescent from NY to New Orleans and I can say it was quite the experience. First of all some staff were nice but some staff just look like they don't want to be working here at all. Cafe car is never open and we paid $3000 and we can't even have drinks or food because they're basically never operating. I know we booked it for the experience in the train but paying a lot of money to be just left with water bottles is insane. Also the train ride is very rough and dry so I don't recommend any long distance travel on the train. Food is microwaved, seats are old, and much more.. Never getting in ever again. read more

on the Auto Train scheduled for August 17, 2025, from Lorton, Virginia to Sanford, Florida. We boarded the train at 2:30 PM and departed at approximately 3:30 PM, expecting to arrive in Sanford by 9:00 AM the next day. Unfortunately, after just 30 minutes of travel, the train came to a complete stop. We remained stuck on the train for 10 hours, during which time communication from staff was inconsistent and unreliable. It was eventually disclosed that a freight train with 41 derailed cars blocked the route and that we could not continue. The handling of this situation was disorganized and unacceptable. Over the course of those 10 hours, passengers were provided only a single 8-ounce bottle of water and a snack pack, while receiving conflicting updates about what would happen next. No clear plan was in place, and when unloading did begin, it was chaotic and uncoordinated, adding even more stress to the situation. We were informed that there would be no Auto Train service to Florida the following day, and the only option offered was to remain on the train overnight after our vehicles were unloaded and we park at them at the station. This was not a viable solution, as my son and I needed to be in Florida by August 18. After waiting 10 hours on the train and an additional 2 hours to retrieve our vehicle, we had no choice but to begin driving to Palmetto, Florida at 2:30 AM. what a total waste of our time! read more

This is a review of Amtrak's ticketing and baggage check-in. My train was delayed and it's my first time at this station so I went in to ask a question. There were several ticketing staff members standings around despite the line. Ok. Whatever. Finally it's my turn and some lady show up out of nowhere and cuts in front of me when the glacially slow lady behind one of two active ticketing stations calls next. A few years back, I was a weekly commuter from NYC to Baltimore on the Amtrack Metroliner. Always comfortable and fast. I had very few delays considering how many times on traveled. As far as my recent Amtrak train ride to Baltimore, the ride was comfortable, and the conductor was pleasant. Amtrak NYC located inside the Moynihan Train Hall, has its own waiting area. Comfy seats, work tables and areas to plug in electronic devices and USB ports. It has bathrooms, and a family bathroom. If you enter the waiting area be prepared to show your tix to the Amtrak employees. As for my train ride, I suggest Business not cuz I'm bougie like that, but it can get ratchet. Business class you get more room, you have more peace of mind, and you don't deal with hooligans as much. You get free non alcoholic drinks, soda, tea or coffee, another snacks are over priced. And don't buy anything hot. If you don't travel Business class, travel late or very early. Be sure to have your tix ready. They do check and will scan your app or your tix, There's kiosks near the waiting area to reprint your tix. Book early! I never pay more than $ 28 each way from BWI to NYC or NYC to BWI! Book after 5pm and on the weekdays. Amtrak will send out an email to BIDUp for extra money, you can bid up to upgrade to Biz class. I suggest this if your traveling during rush hour. Also be a kind passenger. This isn't the green or ride line on metro. Don't hog 2 seats if you only paid for one tix, the conductor will make you move your stuff, when train gets full, especially when you reach Penn Station or in Philly. read more

The train conductors that assigned us our seats on the train from Riverwide to Colorado 12/22/25 ; were very rude And was very disrespectful to my mother who is a senior citizen with a prosthetic knee. When she asked for handicapped seating they said no and that they were fully booked which was a LIE. There were plenty of seat where my mother and I could have sat where there was more space for her. They made this more difficult than it needed to be!!!! And we had a good experience on the train coming from Colorado. I had a trip from NY to Miami on train 97 from 2:30 pm on October, 2 till October, 3. First of all the train had a significant delay due to engine as 6 hours. Thats is not appropriate at all. I was late for important family event and I missed it all. My complaint is about a very rude conductor Natalie. She was not nice at all as she didnt support at all. When I told her that Im not comfortable to sit next to some stranger guy she refused to change my seat. There were a lot of empty seats. There were men sitting by them self. I didnt understand why Amtrak discriminates women. I dont feel safe seat with other men. Instead to put me on the seat by myself ( there were seats and I pointed to them) you put men by themself. She is a woman as well but I did not get any support from her especially after this stress what I got due to significant delay. Instead to let me seat by myself conductors let men occupy two seats while women have to seat together. Im very disappointed by using Amtrak. Recently I used it a lot. I consider to stop using due to rude attitude to women by conductors. Also I will never recommend anybody to use Amtrak. I want you to make women feel comfortable and safe. read more

This is a review for the staff. Went to customer service to ask what track a certain train was. The woman didn't give me a straight answer and said the train wasn't here yet, then proceeded to not answer the question directly and condescendingly tell me not to speak. She could have just told me that trains don't have track numbers until they're here. Then I asked another staff member if I was in the right area for the trains. He didn't even look my way to speak, didn't answer my question directly and just murmured saying that I need to know where my train track is. He was very rude and proceeded to not look my way once while he murmured. Don't ask the staff for help since it doesn't seem like they're paid to do that. Took business class from Rhinebeck to nyc and train got stuck in tunnel for one hour. The worst part were two obnoxious men telling me to get off the phone when I was trying to call my family . They were canoodling and talking to each other even louder than my conversation and finally the conductor put them in their place, If you want to pay $80 to get stuck and be abused by annoying passengers then by all means take Amtrak! read more

Took the train from Penn Station in NYC to Philly, for an overnight stay. Mid week 9:30 am ticket was reasonable at 26 dollars each way, on time both ways, easy to board, train was clean & comfortable, and a pleasure compared to driving from Long Island to Philly. This was my first Amtrak trip since the mid 1970's when we took it down to Florida..and I certainly have been missing out, because driving out of this Tri-State area puts me in a bad mood and this was smooth sailing all the way ! read more

to many people hogging up seats im traveling with a minor and a pet these conductors are only on something thinking that i would be okay with my minor sitting with a stranger, to many reserved seats for people with "disabilities" in all honesty thought about taking that seat due to my back injury but didnt wanna hear "you cant sit there" just because of how young i look to begin with, we ended up seating in the cabin after walking thru about 5carts of individual people laying on the seats i was told "you cant sit in here with a cat which by the way is in a pet carrier its not like imma let her out so she can climb on tables you'd think amtrak would do a better job for those traveling with pets and minors, my pet is honestly quiet not bothering anyone at all. Let's start with the basics. I paid almost $4000 for 4 of us to travel on the Amtrack roomette...nearly as much as I pay for my entire 5 day Disney vacation, so here's my feedback: 1) I booked all 4 tickets at the same time but we were assigned roomettes in two entirely different cars. When I asked onboard if we could be switched to be in the same car, they said it would be too confusing and they couldn't do it. 2) Both trips we had older equipment, not at all like what we saw in the Amtrak video. 3) We were 3 hours late getting to Orlando from NYC. We were told it was due to an extra long delay with the switchover from electric to diesel because they couldn't find an engineer. Also they had to go slow due to the heat. 4) Very poor / weak wifi connection and no video streaming at all. In this day and age you can have high quality video streaming in an airplane at 10,000 feet..but not from a train? 5) Some parts of the ride were very rough. At 4 am was awoken with a major bump like we ran over a bowling ball or something. 6) Overall food quality was good, but little selection and no flexibility. LUNCH: Everything came with potato chips..no french fries. And a hot dog with no toppings, not even onions or sauerkraut. There was chili on the menu, so I asked the attendant if they could put a little on my hot dog and they said no it couldn't be done DINNER: One server 7tables overwhelmed 7) Had to wait 30 minutes for person to come turn the berth from beds back to benches, finally gave up and did it myself. When she finally did show up, she said she was up late and had to sleep late so she got her required 5 hours sleep. 8) No clear annoucements, or direction from onboard staff about the status of the trip, or upcoming stations, etc. stopirection etc 9) Bathrooms, announcements were telling us to keep the bathrooms clean, that the staff were not maids and they don't clean the bathrooms and if we didnt keep them clean they would close them. No toilet brushes or cleaning sprays were made available, even if we did want to clean the bathrooms ourselves. I'm paying nearly four grand to ride this train and I have to clean the bathrooms and can't even get a spoonful of chili on my hot dog...are you kidding me !!!l You people should be bending over backwards to accomodate ANY REASONABLE REQUEST a First Class passenger makes. read more
