First and Last time taking the train in Socal. Since it was the weekend of Comic-con, we wanted to avoid traffic, so we took the train from Santa Ana to Solana Beach to go to Del Mar racetrack. The train was a HOUR late, goes so SLOW, I watch the cars speeding past on the freeway next to us... if I drove I would have been there already! I caught a car ride back with some friends while other friend still took the train back, I got home a hour ahead of them. My friends told me last time they took the train from OC to SD, there were delays upon delays too. How is a train even get to be late? It runs on a track for crying out loud! there's no traffic, no pedestrians, no detours. I can't think of a reason why SoCal trains would be constantly late besides maybe people showing up late for work and didn't start running the train on time. Only in CA... in Europe or Asia, or even NY where people's daily lives depend on the train, it would never be consistently late like this. read more

My first time as an Amtrak passenger. Left from this station. I don't know why I've never taken this mode of transportation before. If you're not in a rush to get back home, I encourage u to hop on one oftheir trains even for a short weekend jaunt. I took the the Orange County line to LA and hopped on their connecting bus to Bakersfield. Not their most scenic route but beats sitting in LA traffic! PLUS their coach seating has plenty of stretching room. read more

Yes!!! Be careful of your surroundings! A first timer to take the train to SD from this station and parked here overnight. Came back at 3PM the next day to find that My CAR got BROKEN into! So do not park at the station overnight!! read more

The Amtrak station at Santa Ana is always clean. Customer Service Rep name Shelia Simpson is wonderful there very friendly and warm always informative about the trains and local area. She goes out her way to help customers anyway she can. Always has a smile when you walk up to the window and is willing to help anyone that comes to the window. The Amtrak station was great but the train 769 was a absolute disaster. I'm traveling with my ptsd service animal and I was very rudly treated by the police officer and the conductor of the train. If you have a service animal and you travel Amtrak expect to be treated less. Expect to not be taken seriously. Expect to be judged. The Amtrak is not fair if u travel with a big dog. I flew to Denver Colorado from Santa Anna's John Wayne airport with no problems and on my way home I'm treated like dirt by the Amtrak. I'm glad Frontier airlines was respectful! read more

Very poor and unfriendly service. I bought a business class ticket last year and the conductor didn't let me enter the first class compartment. She was extremely unfriendly. I immediately complained and instead of refunding me the money they just sent me a voucher something I won't use on my way back ,because the service was also poor there. The customer service I called today was stubborn unprofessional and indifferent. I will travel by car next time and tell everybody to do the same, because Amtrak is a very poor alternative read more

My experience with Amtrak this past weekend has definitely put an end to what was once a wonderful relationship. I take Amtrak a few times a month and found myself needing to take a train this past Sunday. I walked up to the ticket counter and purchased my ticket. The gentleman behind the counter handed me a ticket and I walked outside towards the platform because the train was scheduled to arrive in less than ten minutes. I got to the platform in less than a minute. Thirty seconds later, I hear on the loud speaker that my train was "cancelled". No reason was ever given, just cancelled. I became irritated that less than 2 minutes previous, they sold me a ticket to a train that was cancelled....Irritation aside, I understood that it could very well be possible that they just found out that the train was cancelled....No biggie. I found out that there was another train arriving in an hour. Cool, I decided just to wait it out. An hour and fifteen minutes later, they announced on the loudspeaker that my train was going to be another 30 minutes late...HMMMM...this was surely a sign. All my previous experiences with Amtrak have been positive. But, NO my nightmare continues.... 45 minutes later, this train rolls in....It's not the usual "double decker" train but this old school bullet train that reminds me of the train cars that used to get "horse jacked" in the movies my dad used to make me watch. Not a big deal....I don't need luxury...until I see the conductor open the door and let down the steps and see that the car is already stuffed to the gills with people...WTF? Let me just say that I got on the train like an idiot...and I spent the next 3 hours of my trip standing in that car connector area that looks like an accordion, holding both my heavy bags, listening to people bitch and moan, kids cry and scream because it was hot as hell in there...and attempting to breathe as minimally as possible because it smelled like a cross hybrid of feet and sweaty @$s. There has to be capacity laws against this nonsense....The entire ride, I was seething...calculating my plan to get my money back for such a absurd experience but once I got to the destination I decided that bitching them out would be too good for Amtrak. The worst experience EVER. If they can be so retarded as to stuff that many people in a car and not give a darn about the comfort or safety of their patrons then I don't care to spend another dime with them. read more

Horrible, horrible customer service from the "manager" in the Amtrak service window! Her name is something along the lines of Shililla. Wow, I have never been so insulted in my life. She made me feel like an ignorant when I asked her simple questions regarding the boarding process as it was my first time riding. She refused to answer my questions because she "had a line", when in fact, there was only one person in line who was standing there for about 15 seconds. I usually never complain but I feel this was worthy! She needs to be put on disciplinary action since I'm sure I'm not the first to complain about her attitude. read more

Trains should run on time and frequently. Amtrak Surfliner is often delayed! Some of the staff at Irvine station is rude. I don't understand why Metrolink trains seem to come in one after the other on time and Amtrak trains are delayed! No more Amtrak for me. I know the business class is a nice perk, almost empty car, wide seats and a snack but I rather get to my destination on time! Goodbye Amtrak and good luck. read more

Took the Pacific Surfliner from Santa Ana to San Diego and then back again the next day. I couldn't recommend it more. Parking at Santa Ana was easy and free. Train showed up on time both occasions. Inside, the train is well air-conditioned, the conductors are super professional, and the views are awesome. I bought a coffee (tastey) and doughnuts (sort of dry) and enjoyed both as I watched the California coast go by. I look forward to doing this again some day. read more

Comedy of errors, incompetence, and absurdity! Went from Santa Ana to Santa Barbara, round trip, with a friend. -- Ticket machine jams, eating my ticket -- NO clearly marked information (on tracks, etc.) to see where you are going! -- RUDE employees throughout (on all trains, stations). -- LATE trains throughout... making transfers (if necessary) impossible. -- it goes on and on and on... getting worse & worse I won't bother to rant and rave about all the many tiny details that make RIDING AMTRAK AS BAD, OR WORSE EVEN, THEN THE PUBLIC BUS SYSTEM. (Because I know nothing will be "fixed" or "changed" due to my review, anyways...) Next time I will FOR SURE drive my car! Easier, cheaper, more fun... read more

Clean, safe, FREE PARKING, and on time train. I thoroughly enjoyed getting a clean seat and a stress-free ride down to San Diego. I imagine driving down there in the rain would have been a lot more stressful than the train, and I probably would have had trouble doing so many fun things on my iPad! read more

Worst experience ever! Our train was supposed to pick us up at 7:35 pm. Instead, it was there and we were boarding after 1 a.m. (This is after the first alert at 7 pm told us it would be there at 11:50... then at 11:50 we started getting alerts saying it would be there in 10 minutes for the next hour! Obviously they knew it wouldn't be there in 10 minutes...) Then, when it finally got there, an employee got off and announced, "Since we started this morning, we have had one working bathroom. If you have a problem with that, call customer service." So ... if they knew since that morning, why wouldn't they send an alert out?? I would NEVER have waited knowing the train was going to be that late and only have one bathroom. I would have rented a car. Then ... about 4 hours into the trip, we came to a dead stop in the middle of no where. "Sorry folks. There are freight trains ahead and since we are not on schedule we have to wait for all the trains that are on schedule." So ... we sat, and sat, and sat. When I asked for a list of the upcoming stations so I could get myself and child off this god forsaken train I was told they had no such list () and then when someone finally brought one he was SO very rude and condescending. I love riding the trains but after this experience we will never again! read more

We had such a great experience on the train this weekend! The conductor Camille was amazing! She was so sweet and she remembered us from when she checked us in the day prior. When we got to our stop she came over the loud speaker and wished us well and even gave a shout out to our bachelorette! When we left she met us outside the train and waved goodbye to us. Even when our group got a little unruly, she was so nice when she asked us to try to be s little less profane. This was the best train experience I have ever had! read more

The staff is incredibly rude, we sat in the wrong section and than the attendant rudely and loudly yelled at us to get out (like we were young children) than we went to walk down and she shouted as loud as she could no keep going, than a man came to check everyone's tickets , a lady had moved and he had rudely told her "every time you move I will be back to check your ticket" I realize a lot of people probable hassle them, but there was no need to be so rude. read more

Ok, in th past I have loved riding the train to San Diego. This time... all around bad news. With NO forewarning at all...on the way down DELAYED 45 minutes! A day and a half later, another 30 minute delay!!!! What kind of transit system does that in this day and age!? Get it together Amtrak! Not only that, on the Amtrak app I received written notice that there would be no ride on Friday Oct 6th and we would have to ride a bus to Oceanside...THEN get on the train. In the end, this ended up NOT being true, and only entailed Oct. 7th and 8th! Talking about confusion! And did you know that Amtrak oversells tickets and you're not guaranteed a seat!? How would you like to stand for 3 hours!? I think this is UNACCEPTABLE. Get it together Amtrak. And please, solve these problems. I give it a 2 because there's a lovely view. read more

First time taking the train between San Diego and Los Angeles and we're stuck for over two hours with no explanation as to how long we're expected to wait. Although that wasn't Amtrak's fault. Yet, the train can be a disastrous choice to make if you have to be anywhere by a certain time. Traffic isn't pleasant but at least you have more control over your journey. I was really hoping for something better from this experience. It's a pleasant enough trip, all the same, with sufficient outlets for electronics so at least you can get work done. read more
