Because the Virginia Science Museum is a reciprocal member of the Children's Science Museum in Fairfax we got free admission. It is also right next door to the Children's Museum of Richmond so you truly could spend a whole day in the area just exploring, learning, and having fun.

This is my go to of the ones in Richmond. It's closest to me too. Like most B&Ns, it's located in a strip mall so there is a bunch of free and easy parking out front. This B&N is just one level. And everytime I come to this one, I am always able to find the book I am looking for. I've noticed that B&N has a lot of gifts nowadays. You can find everything from puzzles to legos to notebooks. I know they've always had this, but it feels even bigger (maybe something to do with their Paper Source partnership). So if you're looking for a book and some cute gifts to go with it, this is the perfect place to do that. It's organized pretty well too. I typically don't need to ask for help when searching for a book. I've gotten everything from fiction to cookbooks to travel guides from this location. It's never too busy (unless it's a holiday like Christmas). They also have the Starbucks corner like most B&Ns do. I'd recommend coming to this location.

The first time we came it was on time and we loved the Dragon Tower escape room: it was the perfect mix of puzzle and action. This time we showed up 10 minutes early and they said they were running 5-10 minutes behind because of "cleaning issues". Well it turned into 20 minutes late so thankfully we already canceled our dinner reservations. I think it would've been fine if it wasn't $250 for a family of five for 38 minutes and the ninja trials escape room was not as exciting or interesting as dragon tower. Also one of the equipment pieces we were given was faulty so that made it less fun for one of us.

Just as a quick rundown, there are three main types of VR here: the front area where you are strapped into a VR system and can run in place, a virtual escape room, and a VR action arena (large room with VR cameras on the walls and you can physically run around). I haven't tried the escape room and I liked the strap-in ones, though it's the VR arena that really elevates this place. So far I have done Patient Zero and several rounds of the Urban Assault in the arena, and it's an amazing experience. Between the excellent physical tracking, the true-recoil VR guns, and the actual movement in the real world mapping to the VR world, it is insanely immersive and easy to adapt to. It is quite exciting too: I was fortunate enough to participate in their latest tournament and it was chaotic fun from start to finish. The tournaments are a special treat because for now the entry fee is only $20 while the regular experiences run a fair bit more, so it's an insanely good deal for the amount of fun you're having. On top of the excellent experiences, I would be remiss if I didn't highlight their incredible staff. This is mostly a family-run place and it shows with how kind and personable everyone here is, with positive attitudes, a true love for what they do, and excellent mastery of VR tech and training new players. I have met the owner twice and he goes out of his way to make everyone feel welcome and appreciated for their visits. The most underrated part here is actually nothing to do with VR but actually their bar offerings: the happy hour here is every day of the week (including weekends) and you can get $4 beers (including a few local drafts) and very reasonably priced appetizers. If I were in the area and just wanted a quick beer with a friend before doing something else, I would absolutely come here for it at those fantastic prices. Since Pelagos VR is attached to the mall, there is plenty of lot parking very close by, so no issues there. Really the only drawback of this place is the price, particularly if you come by yourself or one other person as their price structure rewards larger groups. I would absolutely come here with a friend group because of that though a date night here would add up fast. I look forward to coming here again with friends, especially for the tournaments. This is one heck of an outing to look forward to! Overall: 5.0 stars ---- Pros: - Amazing and unique VR experiences, truly memorable in every way. - Multiple options, including stationary running, open arena, or escape room. - Fantastic staff who are kind, knowledgeable, and clearly happy to be there. - Excellent happy hour food deals, worth trying even without the VR. - Easy parking and access since attached to the mall. - Pricing for large groups and the tournaments are great... Cons: - ...though the cost for a small group (especially for only one or two people) is a bit prohibitive unless you have deep pockets. Their pricing is entirely reasonable given what you get for it, though this is really the only thing that keeps me from going every week. Maybe one day they'll have a membership or a punchcard pass option!

There are live animals outside the Farmhouse.....not for petting or feeding! Henrico Parks and Recs offers lectures on VA and Henrico history and often meets here. We love walking through the park and often go to the lectures.

The museum of Meadow Farm here behind Crump Park is a lovely example of rural farm life in circa 1860. It's well-preserved and has distinct architectural significance of middle class living in that time period. The outbuildings are also well-maintained and the grounds are nicely manicured. At times there are festivals here where folks dress in period costumes and demonstrate candle making, basket weaving, etc. and a blacksmith quarters. There are also animals dwelling in the barns and pastures of this natural living farm. They have many activities and historic events, including a history of "Gabriel's Rebellion". There is usually a big July 4th celebration and other calendar events. This is a wonderful family park as there's lots of trails, picnic areas, a lake and other amenities. It's the end of 2020, and I'd say most of us need some extra cheer in our lives right about now…read more Fortunately, Lewis Ginter didn't cancel their annual holiday lightfest, but this year was certainly different than years' past with lots of pandemic precautions in place. I had visited once prior in 2017 and enjoyed the experience, but what I recall from that visit was that the garden was mobbed and the parking lot was insane. We had to park in a subdivision across the street and run across the street/try not to get hit by cars on Lakeside Ave. that year. And last year, I tried to bring my mom so she could experience it too. But we were stuck in an hour+ line at the Lakeside Ave. to make a left, and then as we got close, the police wouldn't let us turn left randomly. I was pretty upset to say the least and actually had an exchange with someone at Lewis Ginter after I direct messaged them about the incident, and they offered free tickets. I never took them up on it, though. Just went to the Norfolk lights instead the next night. This year was much more limited in terms of how many tickets were sold, plus there were staggered entry times. We were able to park right in the front row near the entrance, which is off to the left side this year. There's one entrance and one exit. We arrived within our half-hour window and showed the tickets to a clerk behind glass. Masks are rightfully required to be worn at all times while on their grounds, which I appreciated as a rule (though of course some people didn't listen - eye roll). We arrived at twilight (5 pm) and that turned out well for photos. I was able to get some in both twilight and total darkness. And with less people at the garden, it was easier to snap photos of the displays without others walking into view (though that did happen a few times). This year is all outdoors (so no big tree inside). The treehouse is also blocked off. They offer hot drinks and some food items, but I didn't buy any. With an hour-limit for the visit, we just made it through in the allotted time. Surprisingly, the gift shop was open. I was actually surprised by that, but I guess they need to boost their sales. Hand sanitizer was available upon entry. The tickets themselves were also pretty pricy for nonmembers like myself. And I attended on a value night, so I'm glad I visited when I did. Hopefully by next year, the pandemic will be a thing of the past, but I do see it being helpful if they continue with the timed entries, online ticket purchases, and limiting the amount of visitors to what the parking lot can hold.
