worst Amtrak station I've been in. I want to say right out front that this station is in the middle of a remodel, but that should not stop them from providing a welcoming environment. The usual waiting area was blocked off so we had to sit in a corridor outside. the three benches in the hall were hard and uncomfortable, the phone rang constantly echoing in the corridor so their attendant could hear - it was not that loud in the station - I think they would recognize the nois difference and either answer the phone or turn off the volume so we could have the same peace as they do. I was there waiting two hours and th phone rang nonstop!!!! there was no snack areas or machines just benches phone ringing and people walking through the corridor. I understand that small stations can't afford a louge but having a welcoming space is important.

I hate driving since I have a bad back. We go to Santa Barbara every summer decided to try out the Starlight #11 train . I saw a 20% off so bought my ticket , my teen daughter's ticket & her friend. We decided to just take it one way, my husband would meet us a few days later (he couldn't take off from work) & we'd drive back with him. A few days before our trip decided to upgrade to business. The gal on phone so nice gave us the AAA and student discounts. Business class gave us each a $6 food/drink voucher ,waters and little more space. I do think it was worth it. The coach section looked a little more cramped and crowded. I read the horror stories with delays so signed up for a text alert if any delays. Lucky us train was on time! Ample seating, lots of empty seats I had no one sitting next to me. My daughter and her friend sat right across from me. Business is on upper level so we got great views. There are bathrooms downstairs as well as a look out section on top with glass all around . We had our lunch in the dinning cart. We all had quesadilla and cheesecake. It was actually good! They sat us next to a regular, Joe, who recommended the hamburger. It was such a pleasant and sciencic trip. The trip took little over 8 hours. My daughter and her friend loved it and prefer the train over driving anyday(despite driving only taking half the time). Another bonus is Santa Barbara rewards you if you take the train. You can check into to the mall on state street, Paseo Nuevo, and they give you a coupon book. Also, we got 30% off our cruiser bikes at Wheel Fun . We got $25 off ! Just make sure you hold on to your ticket. The train ticket was a great value!! If you have the time and despise driving as much as me try it. Can't wait for our trip on the train next year

I love the train to Sac. It's clean, you can rest comfortably, eat and drink at the bar or the snack area. There are plugs at every seat for your chargers and drop down tables on the backs of the seats to work or eat. It's the best way to travel and it's faster than sitting in frustrating traffic.

I am particularly thankful to Cynthia, last April 20 @ 650pm. She took the time to figure out what type of service I needed and explained to me the various options that I could take advantage of as a regular Amtrak commuter. She showed me ways to save, earn points and understand the benefits that Amtrak has to offer. She definitely made my day! I love the convenience of the Amtrak trains. All the carriages are clean. The restrooms are clean and well- supplied. Love the options they offer at the cafe. And I appreciate the discounted BART tickets that they offer. It's convenient for business travelers to use their laptops and other gadgets without the concern of running out of power. They even offer free WI-FI!

Amtrak volunteer is not of any passenger assistance, and ignorant of ADA laws.

This is my go to station!…read more Its the last stop in San Jose before going down to Gilroy so when I take it to the city I'm literally the first and last stop. Yes it can be a long ride but that's why you take the bullet (which makes less stops.) Advantages: - If you live in South SJ you can get to this Cal Train station without the fwy. I take Almaden Expressway all the way down there. - FREE PARKING! Which is WAY better than $4 a day at DT SJ Diridon Station. This is great since sometimes I spend the night in the city and have left my car and its been fine. - Plenty of parking. Even when you get to the station somewhat late you can park your car in the dirt area like others do. Be careful of the deep holes tho! Don't mess up your car. - Right next to VTA for those people that take the Light Rail Disadvantages: - No restrooms - It gets really deserted at times and I've seen shattered glass before (thinking someone's car got broken into) - Not all trains go to Tamien so sometimes I do have to suck it up and drive to the DT station

I was reluctant at first to park here due to several mentions of cars being broken into, but they…read moredo offer valid advice - don't leave any valuables in the car! There's never any parking on the other side of the train station (on Lick Ave, with the children's center), however, there is ample parking on the other side near the Hwy 87 entrance. Relatively easy trek to and from South Jose and like everyone mentioned, it's free! Saves me so much on gas when driving to Palo Alto. Make sure to always have a CalTrain Station Time Table to know exactly what train is arriving, departing and where it's potentially headed.

Lot of parking spots…read more Enjoy taking the light rail to Downtown Campbell to skip parking headache on Farmers Market Sundays. Also had smooth experience taking the light rail to Levi's stadium for World Cup game.

Ok so on a recent trip to San Jose with my mother and brother-to go see my beloved San Jose…read moreSharks,I was trying to figure out a more efficient way to way of getting to the stadium-for both cost efficiency and traffic chaos-I really dislike the traffic after an event be it a sporting event or a concert and with the love the San Jose Sharks have been getting lately,I knew traffic would be bad both pre and post game. So looking into the cost of parking near the stadium-i I was looking at upwards of $40 to park across the street from the SAP Center-that's outrageous to me-so I knew there had to be a better way. So what I decided to do was look into the Light Rail system in the area and I realized I could park at the Bascom Rail Station-which is part of the VTA system in the area. Once parked I could catch the light rail and go 2 or 3 stops, maybe 10 minutes and it would drop me off right in front of the SAP Center and I could just walk into the stadium. Here is the good stuff-parking at the light rail station was free and the fare for the train was like $2.50. After the event-it was so easy to just walk back to the station-catch a train back to Bascom and jump in my car and off I was back to Sacramento-easy peasy. The station felt very safe-especially on a game night, lots of people at the train station-so no issues there. In closing-I would definitely highly recommend this method of getting to and from events at the SAP Center-it's cheaper-it's less hectic and it's super efficient-Be Safe Out There. PS-This method works for events at Levi Stadium as well-VTA Light Rail for the win.....

The first rule of naming transit stations is that the name should be simple. That means no slashes…read more Choose the name that's the most important or that is most different from other local station names. This station has a triply unfortunate name because (a) it has that slash, (b) "Metro" is an awful name for a metro station, because it sounds like the kind of station rather than the station itself, and (c) one would assume that it's possible to access the airport directly from a station with "Airport" in its name, but one would be incorrect, because in order to reach the airport, one has to take a VTA bus (line 60) from here. Wow, so that name is awful. How about the station itself? It's OK. Like most VTA stations, it feels too small and like it's in the middle of nowhere. Again, a station with the words "Metro" and "Airport" in its name feels like it should be right in the middle of all the urban action, but this station manages to make the surrounding area feel like an industrial wasteland even though most of San José (including its pathetic downtown) is decidedly suburban. I told Dan and Jorge that there would be parking near this station, but they assured me there wouldn't be. Lo and behold, when we came back here and had to get a ride because we hadn't parked, I spied three parking spots on one street within a block of the station. The bigger question is why I continue to allow a resident of Santa Clara and San José, respectively, to tell me, a resident of San Francisco, how difficult parking in a given area is. Jorge has never lived in San Francisco, but Dan has; he should know better. Difficult means there's absolutely no street parking within a mile, maybe a mile-and-a-half. I'm sure I would have been able to find a legal parking spot before we went to the concert.

I'm torn between giving this station a four or perfect five star review. The reason why I gave this a perfect rating was because the schedule was accurate (round trip) and the inside of the Light Rail was clean and odorless. The announcements for each stop was clear and precise. Pay station was in working condition....accepts cash and credit cards. It's $1.25 for a one way trip. You have the option to buy day passes as well. This is a great transportation system to get you around the city. Even better since it makes a stop for Levi's Stadium (Great America stop). Only reason why I would knock off one star was because the St. James station is located in a park where numerous homeless people hang/resides (and a few who's mind isn't "all there"). So be careful of your surroundings, don't get distracted constantly looking down at your phone, be alert at all times. Also pay attention to where you're walking.
