The Santa Clara Caltrain Station is located across the street from Santa Clara University and within walking distance to downtown Santa Clara. It's also at the transit center so you can also take local buses and the Amtrak trains. There is a parking lot on-site where you can park and ride for $5.50 all day. Depending on which zone you're getting on and off will determine the price that you pay. Just remember that you need to pay before you board. You can scan your Clipper card at their kiosks or buy one on-site. Pro tip: if you have an iPhone you can set up a digital transit card and refill your transit card with your credit card. If you're going northbound you'll have to go under the tunnel to get to the right platform. This is a pretty big station and was pretty clean. read more

I have to use a wheelchair and I am unable to drive after my spine surgeries. My daughter, Stella, and I took CalTrain on December 28th from Santa Clara to San Francisco so that we could still attend the Nutcracker Ballet (our annual mother-daughter Christmas tradition). Trista setup the wheelchair ramp for me to get on & off the train, and she engaged in a lovely conversation with me & Stella during our trip to the city. Four stars because of little train museum that is open intermittently. This is one of the oldest stations along the Caltrain route. When I was younger, you could buy tickets from a living, breathing human being and wait inside for the train. These were the halcyon days of yore. It is still a good train station today. There is now an underground tunnel to catch the trains going to Dan Francisco and the Capital Corridor train that goes to Sacramento via Oakland and sops in between. Actually, I think the Capital Corridor train is much nicer than Caltrain. Another great factoid is the super close proximity of this station to Santa Clara University. This is great for students and any visitor. read more

I'm not a regular commute rider of CalTrain, but I recently took CalTrain up to SF for a Giants game. I wanted to avoid to Olympic Gymnastics crowds downtown, so I drove up to the Santa Clara station. That was an excellent strategy on my part, as there was no traffic. There was plenty of parking and the area by SCU looked very clean and safe. The ticket machine interface was pretty easy to use. I'm glad I did my research ahead of time though, otherwise I would've make a mistake purchasing my ticket. One thing to note about parking. You don't have to put the parking ticket on your dash, so no need to buy a ticket then walk back to your car. The trains were on schedule both directions. In fact, they added an extra train after the Giants game, so I didn't have to wait as long as I thought. Big plus! It would've been nice if the trains ran all the way down to south San Jose at night, but not a huge issue, as I felt my car was safe at the Santa Clara station. Thanks CalTrain! read more

I like the clouds, the scenery and the theatrical look that you can get at this train station. Pretty much is my opinion so far because I haven't taken the train yet to go to SF on the weekends, as I have been planning and postponing for one reason or another. I took my neighbor to the station yesterday and I liked how spacious is and easy access (and accessibility for disabled users caught my attention because it seems they had this in mind when designing or remodeling). However...you have to pay for parking lot even during the weekends? This is not very practical or economical for many people who plan to commute using the train to save money. In fact, in the few occasions I have taken the train in the Bay Area I noticed the prices are too high, plus paying for parking hurts even more. Another thing I noticed is that it seems quite desolated, so I would not like to feel stranded there alone waiting for a train while some sketchy people fly around. I did not see any bar, cafe, coffee shop or store just there. Another con is that the station seems to be far from everything, so you still need a car (or a Uber or a friend) to take you to the station, so public transportation is not what it would look from outside. So be aware of this i you plan to move to this area and think you can rely solely on public transportation, because that is not the case. read more

Just take the free shuttle numbered 10 from right outside that cal train station. The ticket machine interface is easy to use. The area around this place is clean and safe. For a public train station, all is clean and very well lit. This makes getting there after dark less spooky than some if the public stations have been at. There were a few lights out, that I hope Santa Clara fixes, but even with that there was plenty of light and the outage was small in comparison to the number of lights working. There is a free shuttle to/from airport and light rail stations. The biggest issue here is the fact that this isn't a Caltrain express stop. You will see many trains fly through. Since Caltrain doesn't have a great on time record, you might want to consider Diridon on Mountain View stations (both available from light rail) unless you really know the Caltrain schedule. For me, I take the AceRail which has a great on time track record. read more

This is a review of the holiday event at the cal train station only! I've never actually taken the caltrain. I arrived about 10 minutes early to the event. Make sure you come earlier than that.. because it is really hard to find parking! You can park in the neighboring plaza parking lot though. The train arrived right on time, decked out with a lot of Christmas lights of santas, snowmen, reindeer, snowflakes and more. After the train pulled to a stop, people dressed as santa, frosty, Mrs. Claus, elves, and other characters started coming out of the train to greet and take pictures with people. At the end of the train, there was a brightly lit stage where there was a choir singing below fake snow blowers. I would definitely say that this event is really great for younger children! Personally for me, it wasn't as exciting haha. But I can see why all the parents were bringing their little children to meet the characters and take photos. It's definitely a quick and festive little event that you can attend in the area. Overall, a fun way to bring in the holiday cheer at the start of December! read more

This used to be my station of choice for getting up the peninsula, but something has radically shifted recently. First, there was a big jump in cost as a monthly pass went from $55 to $82 for parking. Still not a deal breaker, until recently. I can't find parking. Even the overflow lot to the side is full and many spaces are now blocked off for service and construction vehicles. This is happening with alarming regularity now and I end up driving all the way to work, taking the better part of 1 hour and 45 minutes. Overall the station is in a good location and well kept, but please Caltrain, find ways to accommodate more parking. read more

THe one time in the years of taking Caltrain to this station there's a fatality. almost 2 hours of delay. Yikes. By the time we got here it was packed to the gills with people waiting to pick people up. This tends to be the main stop I get on when heading to SF now. Positives are it hooks up with the Lightrail and the bus to the Airport, but beyond that it's a fairly un-appealing stop. They host no vendors, ie no coffee shop or newspaper stand and the ticket machines are not close to the front of where the train stops. They also run on a fairly awful service route on weeknights and weekends. I'm not sure why when the stop is used so frequently by those coming in from San Jose Airport that they don't gussy it up a little. I mean jeez. Just a smidge. I usually choose to take the lightrail and make my connection in San Jose Dirdon if I can due to the issues above unless it's convenient. Which sadly, it usually is. Backtracking for 20 minutes just to head right back to where you could have been in ten is madness. Madness caused by the un-awesomeness of this station. Ugh I tell you. read more

This is my go to Caltrain Station on the weekdays after I graduated college. I Before I would usually go to the Diridon station and ride from there. Comparing between the two I like this one. Good for SF workers of any job. It's close to the road I drive on, to many people I know and to SCU. Yes I don't go there but early in the morning when I have a day shift I usually come here. There are many other modes of transport that hail here and it's a nice place for the Bay Area commuter who's a broke college graduate. This station is safe thanks to SCPD and has a nice distraction for the impatient young while waiting for the train. I think it's a model train layout/museum. There's an indoor facility that's well heated if you don't like standing out in the cold. It's nice and clean here too. Drawback: unfortunately there is no baby bullet service but that's okay because limited trains are less crowded than them. read more

Nobody likes having to be the sober driver, thanks to Caltrain nobody has to be. Going to the city from the south bay can be a hassle, especially for Giants games. Caltrain makes the trip painless and drops you off less than a mile from AT&T Park (4th street station). Tickets are $8.75 one way to SF, or $18 for an all day pass. The best thing about Caltrain? You can drink alcohol on the trains. Considering the weekend trains take 1:35 to go from Santa Clara to SF you will definitely want to grab a drink or two for the trip. read more

I love caltrain. That is the bottom line, love, love, love it. To go from Santa Clara to the Pac Bell (yes it's Pac Bell for me forever) to see the Giants game is the best by far and worth every penny. The ride is quiet and smooth. The people clean and friendly. The service excellent and the prices fair although they are getting higher all of the time. Parking at SF giants games is around $25.00 and gas from S.J. is around $40.00 round trip so how can you beat this train deal. You can't. No driving. No hassle. Time to read the paper, a book or listen to the radio. Time to talk with other people or the ones you came with. Or just go to the bathroom whenever you want (quite the experience). Warning : Beware of bike thief. My precious bike was stolen at this Caltrain station. I like that there is a free bus to San Jose Airport and there are plenty of VTA bus options. Do not leave your bike here even when it is locked. This caltrain station is next to Police office and I secured my bike with 2 cables locked and it was stolen in day time. I called the Transit cop and they are kind of enough to take my report and give advice. If you need park your bike, make sure to get the secure locker. read more

We took CalTrain for the first time. We decided to take it to go to San Francisco to watch the Giants game. On our way to the game we are allowed to bring beers so that was a good way to hype ourselves up for the game. I believe the fare goes by zones. We bought a day pass that cost us $18.25. The train is clean and the ride went well. It's about almost double the time than driving but definitely worth it to avoid traffic especially going home after the game. I would definitely recommend the CalTrain as an alternative transportation if you want to go to the city to watch the game. read more

I ride the Capitol corridor from Santa Clara to Sacramento with my 2 year old frequently. We always have great service and it's always on time! A bonus is that the changing table for diapers is in a spacious bathroom. That and the snack car make traveling with a toddler almost too easy! read more

Great way to get from the Santa Clara/San Jose area into the City(SF) If your going to the Giants baseball game, the train station is located 2 blocks away from ATT Park. Location is great near Santa Clara University Parking lot located on facility is $4(You can pay inside at the kiosk) Train museum to kill time if you arrive early. To get to the train ramp , cross the parking lot, and head to the left and go down steps . then walk up the steps to the train ramp. Pay for the train tickets for the train at the self serve kiosk located on the train ramp. Bathrooms are located inside the train. Takes about 1.5 hours into SF(On a regular train) or about 1 hour if you take a express train. Fare cost was $9 each way from Santa Clara Station to the last stop in SF. SIt back enjoy the ride and not have to worry about parking, traffic when heading into the city!! read more

Negative 1 for service. Trains run ONCE an hour on Saturdays and I'm told even less frequently than that on Sunday. What kind of mass transit system is this? The only reason I gave it a 2 is that it's quite picturesque. So if you're a tourist or travel writer, it's kinda quaint. But I feel fairly confident in asserting that the purpose of a train station is to have trains which actually RUN. This , sadly, is not the case at the Santa Clara Caltrain station. Then you get on the train and it's this antiquated weird train with no appeal at all. I am sure the Metro North trains I rode from NYC to New Haven, which just this last couple years have been gradually replace by simply beautiful trains with even larger windows so you can gaze on the beauty of the towns along the New Haven line and forget your daily commute. I think you'd have no choice but to move or take MASSIVE amounts of drugs if you had to be on this Third World train. The best part? I paid 7 dollars and so did the girl from France with whom I spent many hours in the hell of San Jose to wherever (a student who is also trying to save money) and NO ONE checked my ticket. In years of taking Metro North and Amtrak along the Northeast Corridor, I have never in my life been on a train on which no one took my ticket. If this happens regularly, I presume that people know it's essentially free. Well, without getting into the debate about ACA, there is a widely circulated meme: "You think healthcare's expensive now? Wait till it's free." The only benefit of the Cal Train? YOU WON"T GO DEAF I HATE THE BART with a passion that no curse words can possibly express. Seriously, you'd have to become a drug addict if you rode the BART regularly. Screeching, high decibels. The Caltrain is dumpy but at least you won't lose your hearing. read more

Reviewing as a rental facility for a birthday party! My nephew had his birthday here. Inside the station, there is a lovely space. In the larger room.....there is a huge model train set!!! Their staff are amazing. For a couple hundred dollars, you can rent the facility for the day, which includes staff provided for running the model trains. They do ask that you provide some food and drinks for the employees. The kids were able to run around, we got some amazing photos, and the size is absolutely perfect. You are able to decorate any way you want. Inside, there are lots of photos and old train memorabilia. It is a great space, inexpensive, and absolutely unforgettable. I would recommend this space to everyone who loves trains! read more

This is one of my favorite stations! It is very well lite so it is easy to navigate compared to thee stations. I am a college aged female and always feel safe walking around this station.
