Thank goodness for trees & shade at Santa Clara Caltrain station!

Santa Clara Caltrain Station feels like an outpost in the frontier. There is a railroad-related museum at the station. I also learned this station has not only Caltrain going through but also Amtrak and Altamount railway cars. Conveniently, the Santa Clara transit center is right next door!

Four stars because of little train museum that is open intermittently. This is one of the oldest stations along the Caltrain route. When I was younger, you could buy tickets from a living, breathing human being and wait inside for the train. These were the halcyon days of yore. It is still a good train station today. There is now an underground tunnel to catch the trains going to Dan Francisco and the Capital Corridor train that goes to Sacramento via Oakland and sops in between. Actually, I think the Capital Corridor train is much nicer than Caltrain. Another great factoid is the super close proximity of this station to Santa Clara University. This is great for students and any visitor.

I'm not a regular commute rider of CalTrain, but I recently took CalTrain up to SF for a Giants game. I wanted to avoid to Olympic Gymnastics crowds downtown, so I drove up to the Santa Clara station. That was an excellent strategy on my part, as there was no traffic. There was plenty of parking and the area by SCU looked very clean and safe. The ticket machine interface was pretty easy to use. I'm glad I did my research ahead of time though, otherwise I would've make a mistake purchasing my ticket. One thing to note about parking. You don't have to put the parking ticket on your dash, so no need to buy a ticket then walk back to your car. The trains were on schedule both directions. In fact, they added an extra train after the Giants game, so I didn't have to wait as long as I thought. Big plus! It would've been nice if the trains ran all the way down to south San Jose at night, but not a huge issue, as I felt my car was safe at the Santa Clara station. Thanks CalTrain!

I like the clouds, the scenery and the theatrical look that you can get at this train station. Pretty much is my opinion so far because I haven't taken the train yet to go to SF on the weekends, as I have been planning and postponing for one reason or another. I took my neighbor to the station yesterday and I liked how spacious is and easy access (and accessibility for disabled users caught my attention because it seems they had this in mind when designing or remodeling). However...you have to pay for parking lot even during the weekends? This is not very practical or economical for many people who plan to commute using the train to save money. In fact, in the few occasions I have taken the train in the Bay Area I noticed the prices are too high, plus paying for parking hurts even more. Another thing I noticed is that it seems quite desolated, so I would not like to feel stranded there alone waiting for a train while some sketchy people fly around. I did not see any bar, cafe, coffee shop or store just there. Another con is that the station seems to be far from everything, so you still need a car (or a Uber or a friend) to take you to the station, so public transportation is not what it would look from outside. So be aware of this i you plan to move to this area and think you can rely solely on public transportation, because that is not the case.

    Happy 150th Caltrain!!!!

Came here for Caltrain 150th. What a event!!! Totally glad I came for it to appreciate the history of this station and how long it's been around. As much as I love public transport, California still has a LONG ways to go. It's still not practical for me to take this to SF on the weekends. Trains don't run frequent enough and it's the SF Caltrain station is a far walk from everything else.... They also don't offer free parking on the weekends like BART. I'm gonna just hold out for the new Warm Springs and Berryessa stations. For now, I continue to drive up to Mill brae....

This is by far the cleanest cal train station I have ever been to. It is located next next to Santa Clara University. This Caltrain station has a Starbucks nearby. The station has ample of parking spots available. There's direct connectivity to San Jose airport via public transport. Just take the free shuttle numbered 10 from right outside that cal train station. The ticket machine interface is easy to use. The area around this place is clean and safe. Parking is $5 per day.

    Evening station well lit.

For a public train station, all is clean and very well lit. This makes getting there after dark less spooky than some if the public stations have been at. There were a few lights out, that I hope Santa Clara fixes, but even with that there was plenty of light and the outage was small in comparison to the number of lights working. There is a free shuttle to/from airport and light rail stations. The biggest issue here is the fact that this isn't a Caltrain express stop. You will see many trains fly through. Since Caltrain doesn't have a great on time record, you might want to consider Diridon on Mountain View stations (both available from light rail) unless you really know the Caltrain schedule. For me, I take the AceRail which has a great on time track record.

This is a review of the holiday event at the cal train station only! I've never actually taken the caltrain. I arrived about 10 minutes early to the event. Make sure you come earlier than that.. because it is really hard to find parking! You can park in the neighboring plaza parking lot though. The train arrived right on time, decked out with a lot of Christmas lights of santas, snowmen, reindeer, snowflakes and more. After the train pulled to a stop, people dressed as santa, frosty, Mrs. Claus, elves, and other characters started coming out of the train to greet and take pictures with people. At the end of the train, there was a brightly lit stage where there was a choir singing below fake snow blowers. I would definitely say that this event is really great for younger children! Personally for me, it wasn't as exciting haha. But I can see why all the parents were bringing their little children to meet the characters and take photos. It's definitely a quick and festive little event that you can attend in the area. Overall, a fun way to bring in the holiday cheer at the start of December!

This is a nice train stop in Santa Clara it has a building that looks like (is?) an old fashion train station, some old rail cars, a rail museum and a nice place to wait for the next train. This is all good because Caltrain doesn't run very often. There is a free shuttle to the San Jose Airport.

I love catching the train here. Affordable and easy to understand the route. Either way, I always ask the drivers and they're awesome.

I need to take ACE train & hop onto Caltrain to get to Mountain View. Is ACE train at this location?

    Yes

I have a disability and a placard stating that from the DMV? Can I park my car at the Santa Clara CalTrain/Amtrak (Capitol Corridor) station for 2 days (from Thursday evening until Saturday afternoon? And what are the fees?

There's a sign that says no parking over 24 hours.

Yes it can be a long ride but that's why you take the bullet (which makes less stops.) Advantages: - If you live in South SJ you can get to this Cal Train station without the fwy. I take Almaden Expressway all the way down there. - FREE PARKING! Which is WAY better than $4 a day at DT SJ Diridon Station. This is great since sometimes I spend the night in the city and have left my car and its been fine. - Plenty of parking. Even when you get to the station somewhat late you can park your car in the dirt area like others do. Be careful of the deep holes tho! Don't mess up your car. - Right next to VTA for those people that take the Light Rail Disadvantages: - No restrooms - It gets really deserted at times and I've seen shattered glass before (thinking someone's car got broken into) - Not all trains go to Tamien so sometimes I do have to suck it up and drive to the DT station

There's never any parking on the other side of the train station (on Lick Ave, with the children's center), however, there is ample parking on the other side near the Hwy 87 entrance. Relatively easy trek to and from South Jose and like everyone mentioned, it's free! Saves me so much on gas when driving to Palo Alto. Make sure to always have a CalTrain Station Time Table to know exactly what train is arriving, departing and where it's potentially headed.

I'm torn between giving this station a four or perfect five star review. The reason why I gave this a perfect rating was because the schedule was accurate (round trip) and the inside of the Light Rail was clean and odorless. The announcements for each stop was clear and precise. Pay station was in working condition....accepts cash and credit cards. It's $1.25 for a one way trip. You have the option to buy day passes as well. This is a great transportation system to get you around the city. Even better since it makes a stop for Levi's Stadium (Great America stop). Only reason why I would knock off one star was because the St. James station is located in a park where numerous homeless people hang/resides (and a few who's mind isn't "all there"). So be careful of your surroundings, don't get distracted constantly looking down at your phone, be alert at all times. Also pay attention to where you're walking.
