3.5-4 stars. Hard to say really. Took the Northeast Regional to get to and from BWI from Union. Evidently that's the most efficient route. On the way from BWI to Union it was around 5:30 or 6 on a Friday and there wasn't a ton of people yet the train was late. Since it's coming from NYC that's not to be unexpected but what was annoying was the screens said that trains could come 2-5 minutes EARLY from posted times on the board (if they weren't running late). This would infuriate me if I was one of those people checking the times on my phone while I was running off a shuttle bus-to find out the 6:05 actually leaves at 6:00??? Just post the actual times please. On the way back to BWI I grabbed the last train of the day which was supposed to leave at 2:20. Of course there was a line down the entire platform and the train was 15 minutes late. As long as I left myself time to get to my plane, I was ok (I made it). However, they still waited, and waited, and waited. Once we got on. To pull out of the station. After we moved up 100 feet again. Once we got on our way it was fine and a quick ride-to BWI it's only 2 stops. The seats have plenty of room and the overheads have plenty of space for big luggage. If I was going to take this on a longer trip I imagine it would be comfortable (and with wifi and cell signal). I'm a plane girl and would rather get there in a third of the time but it's always an option. It's so old school how your tickets don't get scanned until you're actually butt in seat on a moving train. I like the nostalgia though. As long as they're not terribly late I'll continue to take the same route. read more

First time train rider, long time admirer. We were in the area a while back for my sister's graduation and had decided beforehand to make a little extended vacation out of it by doing the tourist thing in NYC after DC. The train was much less expensive than a flight so it was a no-brainer. What a really fun experience! Let me break it down... Positives: --No TSA "You Have No Fourth Amendment Rights" type of security. You show them your ID and ticket and that is all, the way it should be. --Plenty of seats in the waiting area, I didn't see one person sitting on the floor. --The seats on the train are huge, comfortable and beat the hell out of any commercial airline. --The views weren't amazing or anything, but it was nice to see Baltimore and New York right out my window. --Plenty of room to walk around in the cars. --Friendly staff and conductor(s) Negatives: --Tracks could use some repair in and around Baltimore, things were shaky at times. --Food and drinks are overpriced and decent at best, but what did I expect? Who cares I guess. Overall, it was nice to be treated like a customer rather than an inconvenience at best and a criminal at worst. If I find myself on the East coast again and need to go city to city, then I won't hesitate to go Amtrak. read more

Best service!!!! We took the train on thanksgiving from NYC to baltimore and I left my wallet in the train. I called the station in dc to have the staff to look for the wallet when the train arrives there. They FOUND my wallet! On thanksgiving night!! Great people! read more

I resolved the situation and cancelled the trip. Amtrak tried to withhold 10% for cancelling, but then completed a full refund after an hour on hold with customer relations. I really wanted to make this trip but with the Parlor Car and the amenities offered at the time of booking, not in the fashion the trip is now running. Update... Cancelled our trip and booked air tickets but now find out they've again changed their minds and have decided to keep the Parlour Car on the Costal Starlight run! You would think that more would be put into the decision making. We really wanted to make the Costal trip :o( read more

ClubAcela in Washington DC Union station is a quiet place to wait between trains or a place to drop off you luggage if you have a long layover. It's available to all passengers who book a roomette. That was about the only good part of the Washington DC to Florida (Deland) leg of my trip. The Silver Meteor is a Viewliner. It is old train that has seen better times. The Viewliners are single decker trains. The infrastructure along the east coast is such that they can only accommodate single decker trains. The roomettes have in-room sinks and toilets. The shower is VERY small. I am a small person and I barely fit. I don't think many people use the shower since there weren't very many bath towels on hand AND there was a garbage receptacle (for coffee, etc.) sitting in the shower room. There was coffee and ice available at the end of each sleeper car. The dining car was adequate since I was only having dinner & breakfast there. It was much older and the tables and seats showed their wear. Same menu as the California Zephyr and Capitol Limited. I walked into the cafe car - equivalent to the lounge car on the Superliners. It was small and only had tables. It wasn't welcoming like the lounge cars and rather sad. I guess if you had a coach seat, it might be better to sit at those table than in the older coach seats. The service in the dining car was good. The sleeper car attendant introduced himself then disappeared. I pushed the "attendant call" button to find out how to reconfigure my bed. The attendant never showed up so I figured it out myself, took down the mattress from the top bunk, and made my own bed. It looked like the top bunk had more headroom than the top bunk on a Superliner but I didn't test it out. You can only sleep one direction unless you have very narrow shoulders and want your head near the toilet. Luckily, my roomette was designed so my feet were facing the direction of travel. I've found that if my head is in the direction of travel I experience a bit of motion sickness... that's just me. I wouldn't recommend this train route. I've spoken to other train travelers and they say the Silver Meteor is their least favorite. Luckily I was only on board from 7:30pm (Washington DC) till around noon the next day (we arrived 1/2 hour later than scheduled). Amtrak "owns" most of the track on the east coast so delays because of freight traffic are not a problem. read more

Amtrak overall is a great company. I had a good experience when traveling from ALX-Alexandria VA to Penn Station-Newark NJ. This review is regarding "Janae" an Amtrak Rewards Customer Service representative who I had the great MISfortune of speaking with when I had questions regarding a recent trip. "Janae" is most definitely the worst customer service agent I have ever dealt with. Rude, condescending, abrasive, and a general lack of professionalism. Amtrak, you can do better than this. I like Amtrak because I don't have a car. I don't like Amtrak because I can practically fly across the country for the same cash as a round trip train ride to Trenton. I am a AAA member, I left on Fri at 7 am, I came back at Sun at 9 am. I picked the days and the time because they were cheaper and my ticket still cost $140. Maybe I'm crazy but I think thats a little much. I like it because the trains are on time, usually clean, usually the people are nice, and its pretty roomy. But learning the 'rules' is very trial and error. The gate at Union Station? Yeah, don't stand in line, everyone just crams through. Which train are you on? Make sure you have the right platform and if the train pulls up at your departure time hope its your train and grab a seat. It makes me nervous they don't announce it very well. It also took me a couple times to learn the ticket taking rules and such. Overall it gets me there which I like, but when I travel to NY I will take the bus. Save some that money for the weekend! read more

It was our 1st time taking a train ever and it was such a positive experience! Our East Coast romp started off in DC and ended in NYC with a two day stop in Philly. After researching the different bus options and renting a car, we opted to spend a little more money and take Amtrak (we got a slight discount with our AAA membership). It just seemed more convenient, less scary, and we had never been on a train before. So why not, right? What a relief that it was so easy and comfortable! Our train was one of the regional ones and it was clean. The sights of everyday life you see as you pass by were interesting (I wish I took more pics) but I didn't see as much as I had hoped for. I remember seeing a lot of trees too. Hands down, I'd recommend this to anyone travelling from DC to NYC as a tourist. However, I only give it 4 stars because I didn't visit the whole train. After reading some of the reviews before writing my own, if I had visited the bathroom on our trip I may have only given this two stars. With that in mind, I suggest taking the train but just use the bathroom before the ride. =p read more

I have been a member of Amtrak Guest Rewards for a number of years. My wife and I recently took the Lakeshore Limited and City of New Orleans from Syracuse, NY to Chicago, IL to New Orleans, LA. The first leg of our trip was uneventful. 4/13/2019 on Train 49 Room 4912 B., I woke early enough to stretch my legs in Toledo. The temperature was 38 F and there was blowing sleet in a strong wind. I was in the dining car and mentioned to the attendant, Mike, that I would like to step out. He kindly opened the door and allowed me out on the platform. I walked for a few minutes, and it felt great. Mike remained on the platform monitoring me the entire time. He must have gotten uncomfortable, but was unfailingly pleasant. He treated me as I expect to be treated, as a valued customer. The second leg of the trip was to NOLA. 4/14/2019 on Train 59 Room 5900D. Brian was our car attendant and was very attentive and pleasant. We spoke for a while about the 8 hour delay into Union Station for train 58. Brian stated that he was on that train, and had not slept in about 30 hours. I couldn't tell, because he was very efficient in his duties. Except for helping me with my bags. I am 68 years old and don't mind assistance. I welcome it. There was a supper served at 9 PM in the Dining Car. There were two tables fully occupied, a table with one couple and 7 tables vacant. My wife and I sat at a vacant table and were promptly asked by the attendant to move to the table with one other couple, which we did. That left seven tables vacant. We ate a VERY disappointing Muffaletta. Almost tasteless. And it proved to reside with me for a couple of days. The server was surly. We finished our meal. There were still seven empty tables. Breakfast was more of the same. One table fully occupied, one with one occupant, 8 empties. We were told to join the one occupant by a server who was, to understate the case, RUDE. We waited a very long time for the meal and ended up wishing it had not come. Some sort of egg/potato/sausage dish that was not completely heated (HOT AND COLD in One Dish) and was almost inedible. We finished our coffee and left. Still 8 unoccupied tables. The server was RUDER if possible. I should mention that we had three carryons. I carried them up the stairs, and I carried them down the stairs. The attendant was nowhere to be found. My wife and I had paid a first class rate and were treated as steerage. And fed accordingly. We returned on 4/20/2019 Train 58 Room 5800B. More of the same. Our attendant greeted us, and that was the last that we saw of him. We were informed by someone that dinner would be served at 4 pm and 5 pm and would we like to make a reservation. We chose 5 pm. We learned later that there was serving at 6 and 7 also. Same seating as before. Forced into an occupied table while many remained empty. A chinese noodle dish so bad that we left most of it behind. Poor service and long waits. I wanted to retire at 9 PM so I used the button in our room to call Akeen at 8:30. The light on the call remained on for a full hour. No Akeen. I went looking for him. Couldn't find him. Asked a very rude attendant in the dining car how to find him. The gentleman was less than helpful. I returned to my car and happened to run into someone who knew Akeen's location. I found him, He said that he never heard the buzzer/signal. FINALLY in bed at 1030. An hour and a half after my desired time. We asked for extra blankets since the car was very cold. Turned out that was a great idea. I woke and went to the sightseer car. Very cold. Went back to my room, very cold. Could see my breath! Had to don heavy clothes. And we were still cold. Skipped breakfast. Had no desire for rude service and/or bad food. Arrived in to Chicago. No help with bags. A truly miserable trip on the fabled City of New Orleans! Our last leg was on Train 4800 on 4/21/2019. Our attendant, Kevin, actually HELPED WITH MY BAGS! He also mentioned that there was a complementary drink waiting in the diner. We went and were served by the same affable attendant from our trip out, Mike. He was friendly, courteous and allowed us to sit by ourselves, even though two other tables had room for a couple. What a nice treat! Our train was late getting into Syracuse, so we headed to the diner to be served by Mike. Again, tables were occupied by fewer than four. Again, Mike allowed us to sit where we wished. And another surprise...the lunch was not only edible but actually tasty! I had the antipasto and my wife had chicken in sauce. Mine was delicious, hers was delicious and Mike was the perfect attendant. The train arrived in Syracuse late. Kevin assisted me with my bags. A good trip. I checked the dollar value of my trip. According to Amtrak's site, the round trip, from SYR to NOLA and return, with 4 bedrooms, costs over 3300.00. I also checked airfares. Once again, i travel on Amtrak to go to Washington,DC. My mom and brother have never been, so she decided to go on the weekend. Tickets one way for us was $88.00 each. We missed the $66.00 dollars by two days. So we reserved our seats for Friday, for the 8:48 am train out of new Rochelle, Ny. Train was on time and it wasn't crowded. It started getting crowded when we went to the next stop Penn station in Ny. Now compared to four years ago, they try and limit your bags to two carry-ons and two personal bags. I could be wrong about the limits but i know that when students are coming from college or going they just don't have two bags, more like four bags and their carry on. Took the NE regional to and from DC - NYC today. Supposed to leave at 6:30am, but left late due to Amtrak putting an engine on the train, go figure....and then got to NYC over 20min late due to track work that they failed to notify us of. So glad I gave myself an extra hour for my meeting. Leaving NYC late...typical...and now getting into DC over 20min late...Can Amtrak please notify riders of track work and adjust your schedules! My friends and I departed D.C. for New York City via Union Station. The station was very easy to navigate, even with all the shops. We used Amtrak's Red Cap service to board early and dolly the luggage across the platform. Red Cap service is complimentary; however a suggested tip is $5.00 per person. Dallas and Kevin assisted us with our bags and were a pleasure to have help us to our seats. The train arrived on time, and my friends and I were able to secure four seats together with legroom. The train was clean, relatively quiet and child-free. We also had two A/C outlets for charging our electronics. Prices were affordable, and we enjoyed the scenic views of Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Jersey City en route to Penn Station. Sit on the right side of the train; it gets the best sights. Total travel time was 4 hours. Not only was Union Station a beautiful landmark to visit, we also had a positive experience traveling with Amtrak. If you have the opportunity to ride the regional train to or from Washington D.C., I highly recommend it! read more

There are a couple good things about Amtrak. The trains have plenty of leg room, are reasonably priced (though not cheap), and it's nice to not have to go through security, check bags, etc. But, riding Amtrak could be a hassle (demonstrating similar issues as other government-run establishments from the DMV to the ACA). After canceling two trains, I had about 100 bucks stored on an online "evoucher." Unfortunately, I'm not the only "Brian S." in the world, and a different person with the same name was able to go to the ticket office and use my voucher. I have never heard of anything like this! But..I was told this is common, which is absurd. I called up, and the nice woman was able to re-issue me a refund...but I went to the station today and it was gone once again. This is getting tiresome. The employees are generally very friendly, and seemingly capable, but they just don't have the tools available to them to succeed. (They may not be the hardest-working bunch either...there always seem to be TONS of employees around at Charlottesville or Union Station....but none of them tend to be actually working or helping customers). I'll still check Amtrak when booking my trips home, but would rather try to fly if possible and avoid these issues. read more

Recently took a long weekend trip to NYC and had a very pleasant experience. The lack of assigned seats has it's pluses and minuses. If it's a packed train, get there at least 30 minutes early to line up else if could be rough getting a seat if your party is more than 2 ppl. If traveling solo, it's easy. There was a slight delay leaving NYC but only about 10 minutes. It's nice because you can get up and walk around the train, use the restroom and you have power outlets at each set of seats. I still believe it's more expensive ($270 trip) than taking a flight from DC to NYC (flights were $200 - $275 depending on time) so I can't give it more than 3 stars. read more

Took the Acela Express up to New York and back for the weekend. I will never fly again. Here's the deal. You get to Union Station (either with a taxi or the metro), you scan the bar code if you've already made your reservations, the tickets print out, you hang out for a few minutes, maybe buy a coffee or a bottle of water, and then you're on the train. It really is, just that simple. We actually, having gotten to Union Station an hour before the train, were too early. That, in an airport, NEVER happens. The ride up was great, we went on Saturday and the train was basically empty. We sat in the quiet car. And, it was quiet. A woman talking on her cell phone got shushed. In a very librarian way. WiFi worked great, got a lot done, and before we knew it, we were in NY. The ride back on Monday afternoon was just as good, we ended up being a lot early, but, instead of being at an airport playing tiddlywinks and since there was another train in 30 minutes, we were able to get out early. That, in an airport, never happens. The Acela representative was snotty. That may be zip coded customer service. Still the quiet car, but much busier, and the two gentlemen who talked the entire way were at least funny. Best way to get to the Amtrak section in NY is on 8th & 31st; I walked by the folks standing outside on a hot, humid day waiting for the bus back to the District and gladly paid $4.50 for a small bottle of water and a 30 minute air conditioned wait for a train. read more

Check-In was easy here. I scanned my phone on the Kiosk and it printed out our tickets. We waited in "line" and then headed over to the train. We were handed our seating assignments as we boarded the train. Train was on time. The trip itself was good as well. Plenty of leg room, large seats, comfortable enough to sleep in. Food was average at best. Staff were nice enough. Fellow travelers were somewhat noisy at times. Overall, I want to travel by train again - it was a good experience. read more

For the first time since I was a kid I went to use Amtrak. I scheduled a train online and booked my ticket for 4:30pm. I got a call from Amtrak the next day stating that the train had been cancelled and that I could take a different train or schedule a bus. When I asked what train times were available I was told only early morning. I then asked what buses they had available which was 5:45pm. What was the reason for the cancellation? It was due to scheduled track maintenance. If the maintenance is scheduled why would you allow customers to book a train during it and waste their time and yours? Also - if you cancel a train have a bus ready for the same time to replace it. This is why people no longer take the train. It is not reliable and appears to be very poorly managed. I won't be using Amtrak again. read more

I just took the 7:40 pm NE Regional from NYC to WAS. I gotta say that the Amtrak staff on this train are THE BEST! Not only were they friendly, but I also watched them guide a young college girl to the best way to buy tickets in the future. This is my new train from here on out - just because of the incredible customer service. Amtrak continues to do it right with their excellent employees. Apparently there is a few of older ladies who take this train after every Orioles game. God bless the staff - hey know these ladies and talked baseball all the way to DC with them. It is these small things that truly make a difference. I'm leaving this (1 hr delayed train - weather) with a big smile due 100% to the Amtrak staff! read more

Rode Amtrak from Flagstaff to Union Station on 9/3/18. The train was supposed to depart AZ 8:38 pm on 9/2/18. The train did not pick us up until 2 am on 9/3/18. No explanation why. No apologies. No periodic updates from the agent working while we waited. No upgrades or vouchers offered to compensate our time. In fact, around 1 am, the agent told us the train would be arriving in 10 min and we were all standing in 42 degrees weather when the train was once again delayed to 1:52 am. No one bothered to tell us anything. Will Amtrak be responsible for our medical bills if we get sick? It's the worst experience EVER!!! read more

I'm current on Amtrak traveling from Florida to Washington DC . My time of arrival was supposed to be 2:30pm it is currently 4:28pm with a new estimated time of arrival of about 8:00pm . The staff is purposely delaying the trip and giving no accurate warning of our delay . An entire 6 HOUR DELAY . I have connecting travel which I will possibly miss my entire second trip . All they have for us is peanuts and " I DONT KNOWS " It's shameful and unprofessional . NEVER AGAIN . read more

Value proposition is lost when the train is an hour late, slow and you can't check into your hotel until 2a.m. Should have caught the Chinatown bus for $25 instead of blowing $250 on Amtrak. Acela from DC to NY in the early morning is great, albeit comically unstable on the tracks compared to a European or Japanese express train. Business class in the morning. Acela from NY back to DC at night was painful. People were loud, messy, they brought screaming infants (why East Coast?! why?!). But then, it was coach. In both business class and coach, I was able to charge my phone. Bathroom in the A.M. in business class was very clean. Bathroom in the PM in coach was post rock concert gross. Business class may be well worth the extra money for your ride home. read more

Fan of the Acela train-only problem is taking Amtrak to NYC you end up going slow near the city as the are single tracking trains...annoyingly slow on approach. I like the quiet car. First class car is the best of course...pricey though. I wish you could catch an earlier train if you get to station early without paying anymore. They will reprice ticket. If there is room they should let you take an earlier train without paying more as tickets are quite expensive already. At least you can bring a bottle of water and you don't have to remove your shoes for inspection-makes train travel more desirable. read more

Taking the trip from Union Station to Penn Station via train was better than I expected. Amtrak offered many more departure times, Bolt Bus only offered two that were both scheduled earlier than I wanted to leave DC. I arrived to Union Station 20 minutes before departure and there was a a line. The line was short and moved quickly. The train seats were comfortable. Though there were several stops along the way, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Newark the train was very empty. It was bumpy occasionally and I did not like that the light was on 30 minutes before arriving in NY so I could not sleep but at least the train was on schedule. An Amtrak employee walked through the train cars announcing each stop. I also got a AAA discount of about $7. I would take the train again for a short trip. read more

$12 gets you to BWI shuttle station in 28 mins. The shuttle does the rest of the 5 min trip to BWI. Better than the hour long trip ($4 trip) from BWI to the Greenbelt station. Although you do go by corn fields on your way into the city. read more

What can I really say? If you can't afford to fly or don't have another way to travel then I guess you're stuck with Amtrak, but it's upsetting that Americans have to settle for such an inferior rail service compared to Europe. Not all of the trains have dining cars and in addition most of their trains are old and constantly breaking down or malfunctioning in some manner. The seats are HARD and about the same type used in an airplane so don't plan on reclining. You do get more legroom than an airplane does but you're also going to be on the train quite a bit longer so it's really not a good tradeoff. Half of the food they supposedly offer is junk and it's usually running out on the trains (I'm writing this review from Amtrak's Silver Star right now where we got on at the beginning of the line around noon and they were already out of half their food offerings). The rails are in terrible need of maintenance and updating as you can feel just about ever divot and bump along the way, it makes for an incredibly rocky experience. Oh and the wifi network available through them is unreliable with no internet access. Bathrooms are gross too but that's mostly from other people on the train using them. read more

My absolutely horrible experience on my ride from Atlanta to Lynchburg. I boarded the train to Lynchburg, Va at 9 ( ALREADY 55 MINUTES late) when ERNEST ROBINSON was assigning seats. I , politely, asked him for a window seat because the seat he assigned me was an aisle , not next to a charger, and was covered in the next persons filth and mess from HER ride and somewhat occupied by the woman in the window seat. He explained that the seats were for parties traveling together, which makes NO SENSE given that a seat is a a seat. I was no asking for two seats, but merely a seat that was unoccupied. Conductor RANKIN also gave me this excuse and neither were accommodating or seeming to want to help. I have taken AMTRAK before and will likely not again due to this terrible new way of assigning seats and not caring about a customers concerns ( especially for a 10 hour ride). read more

It's an acceptable option. Definitely not the IntercityExpress in Germany or the Thalys in France, but a thankfully good option for alternative transportation (i.e car) to get around the Northeast. Haven't tried the Acela Express but hope too one day. read more

I recently rode the Northeastern from DC Union Station to Penn Station in Baltimore (now to us rail n00bs that's a real mystery - why is the station in Baltimore called Penn Station? It's not even in Pennsylvania!) My last experience with Amtrak was in 1990 - the lapse in time says it all about THAT experience. This train was clean, very comfortable. What I REALLY liked was the two 100VAC socket right under the window to charge things up. Once you get on the train it wasn't packed, (I was on the Tuesday 6pm run) and every stop was on time. The only "grip" (for the lack of a better word) I had (and this really isn't Amtrak's fault) was how people behaved before boarding actually started. I saw it as a reverse evacuation from a burning building - except everyone had luggage. There really wasn't any resemblance of order or queues - disconcerting to a rookie - and really operated more like an experiment in chaos/self-organizing systems. This rush started when the "prepare to board" sign came on. Once boarding started, it moved very fast, there were plenty of Amtrak folks there to keep everyone moving through at top speed. So it looked chaotic, but it actually worked quite well. Would I do this again? At $21 a pop, yeah! No WiFi onboard, but VZ Aircard worked well along the way. read more

Was vacationing in Orlando and decided to stay while my family went back to Miami in our car. I was about to book a bus ticket when it was suggested by family to book a train ticket. Thinking this would be quicker since I would be arriving at traffic time I opted to take the train. While on my way to the station I received a message from Amtrak at 9AM that the train would be arrived at 12:15 rather then 10:20. This last minute message should have been my first red flag. When 12:15 came, there was no train to be seen. It was announced a few minutes later that the train would arrive at 12:45. This was already very frustrating as the time of arrival to Miami was supposed to be 5:45, it changed to 7:30. While on the train, many hiccups had occurred that involved the train stopping for long periods of time. To make a long story short. The estimation for the trains ETA to Miami was about 12:30AM. However this time continued to move upward. I opted to disembark in West Palm Beach and drive the rest of the way after my family agreed to come get me. Many passengers on the train headed to Miami did the same thing. I arrived in Miami at 11:30PM while the train still had another hour before it would arrive. This is assuming the ETA did not continue to move up. God knows what time the train actually arrived at the station in Miami. I was fast asleep in my bed at home while the train was still dragging itself through South Florida. If you find yourself without a car, I would suggest booking bus or just renting a car and if you have the money just buy a plane ticket. A flight from Orlando to Miami is about 30 minutes. MUCH better than a 7-8 hour train ride or in my case, 12 hours. Will steer clear of any Amtrak trip in future. read more

I am writing this review for the capitol limited Amtrak train that I boarded at Chicago union station. The train arrived here at the scheduled time and the staff and service inside the train was exceptional. The train got delayed by 20 minutes early morning but it made up time along the way later in the day. read more

I love the train. I ride from New Orleans to Birmingham. Lots of room. Staff is friendly. Only complaint is rude people talking on their phones! read more

Just got on the 449 train in South Station Boston. This train is filthy! They obviously do NOT clean the train between riders. The seats have crumbs, etc. all over them & the table has something sticky spilled all over it. The conductors solution was "well you can always move." REALLY? You could always clean the train too. It's disgusting! read more

My husband and I are on the Vermonter #57 from Penn Station (NY) to Union Station (Washington DC). This has been a horrible experience- and one we will not repeat and will avoid Amtrak at all costs in the future! The train was well over an hour late leaving the station at Penn Station - with absolutely NO communication as to why it was delayed, or how long the delay would be. It arrived for Boarding one hour later. Once boarded, we were told to expect to arrive at our destination one hour late. Instead the train has stopped multiple times for anywhere from a 25 - 35 minute stop. Again- with absolutely NO COMMUNICATION!! We are not yet at our destination, and it is 12:45 am and stopped yet again. Amtrak would do well to communicate to it's passengers- instead of saying Nothing at all. This is horrible! I do not recommend taking Amtrak! I have given them one star only because I do not have the option to choose no stars! read more
