Dupont Circle has a very deep Metro station convenient to the area. It's one if the more unique stations. The best thing about it is the location though. It stops in a nice area. There's lots of places to eat or shop. It serves the Red Line. It's to the west of the park. The station is one of the deepest in the system. It has a crazy long escalator. The actual inside of the station isn't as interesting. It only serves one Line, so it's not as busy as some stations can get. The neighborhood is a nice area, and there's usually some kind of event going on. It may actually be busier here on the weekends, with all the visitors coming. The next stop is the zoo, so that brings more tourists. It has some cool architecture. On that long escalator ride you can have a good look. The outside wall has a quote by Walt Whitman.

The entrance looks epic when you come down from the outside at the night time. In general it is a regular DC Metro station.

Coming from the Bay Area and taking Bart for most of my life the Metro is a huge upgrade. I was so amazed by the metro at not only how clean it was but the people and environment on the trains. These were so nicely maintained and people didn't just trash the trains. The stations themselves were also clean along with the trains. I saw no one jumping the rails or anything. Very nice. I was super impressed and amazed. One thing Bart does have which I wished the metro had was yellow squares or something to show where the doors will open. Great touch from Bart that I didn't think would be so helpful.

Another of Washington's very deep underground stations, Dupont Circle is on the Metro's Red Line between Woodley Park and Farragut North stations. Unlike many others, this is a "side platform" station, where the doors open to the side rather than to a shared "island" platform in the center. While I was there, they were repairing the escalators. Some crazy people actually managed to climb them while they were temporarily down. Maybe the same as four flights of stairs? From the street level you go down one escalator to the ticketing mezzanine, same as others. Automated ticket vending machines are available as well as a staffed booth. Then another escalator down to either the westbound (towards Shady Grove) or the eastbound (towards Glenmont and downtown DC) platforms. Enjoy the Walt Whitman poem as you get to street level.

This station was located right behind the hotel we were staying at (Embassy Row Hotel.) The first thing that caught me by surprise was the escalator ride down in the north tunnel. Holy crap, I got a little dizzy riding down 188 feet below ground. Mixing in the massive concrete cylindrical facade, slope, and the floor below made parts of the ride seem like a flat moving sidewalk. I did get used to it the more we rode down. Metro cards were a bit confusing to purchase, but eventually we got it. There is a set fee of $2 or $3 for the card itself. You then can add the amount of dollars and even cents to the re-loadable card (I believe the minimum is $2 though, unless I was doing it wrong.) A convenient price sheet posted peak & off peak rates. Pay with cash, credit, or debit cards. Card readers are located on the top of the entry & exit lanes, and on the sides for the handicapped/stroller lane. The area is clean and felt safe at all hours of the day. I believe they run until 3am. FACT: The north entry/exit escalators are DC's 6th longest.

Loved the metro train system in Washington DC. This particular one is extremely large and clean. The escalator takes you way down under ground and you can pretty much get to anywhere in DC from here. The workers were very helpful when we were asking for directions and how to purchase a metro card. The area surrounding the station is full of cute shops and restaurants.

This station stop is part of the Red Line. You can even see some memorial engravings carved around the entrance outside. Those who have to go to the Zoo or Union Station can catch the trains from this stop. On the 1st floor are the fare card and swipe machines. Once you go through the swipe machine, you have to utilize the escalator that will bring you down to the boarding platform. On the platform, you will see two tracks. You will also see an installed sign listing the upcoming stations from this stop in opposite directions. This was a way to show riders where to stand for their next train East or Westbound. An LED sign displayed when the next trains would arrive for boarding. I had to get off at this stop in favor of meeting up with my friend in this area. I then had to come back in favor of Union Station. What I noticed about this particular station was the very long and steep escalator. I had to stay on the right for the long ride up and down since I wasn't in a hurry. Those who are in a rush, however, can walk or even speed walk CAREFULLY on the left. The station itself appeared to be clean. However, every announcement that was made sounded garbled, confusing riders. It would be helpful if they displayed such announcements on the LED screen. The screen displays some of that, but not all. But still, this station serves it's purpose.

Dupont metro stop is one of the busier metro stations especially during rush hour but still not as busy as Metro center, that place is crazy. Anyways, Dupont has super long escalators that can make you dizzy if you aren't used to them. Always stand on the right side if you are not walking down or up the escalator. Otherwise you are likely to have some angry commuter yell or even walk into you if you are standing on the left. The base of the escalators always has a strong breeze blowing down from up above, this can be pleasant in the summer time, but it is oh so painful in the winter. There are two exits, the Dupont circle exit that lets you out in Dupont circle by the Krispy Kreme and the Ave Q exit that lets you out away from DP circle. If you are trying to catch the Georgetown University Guts bus or the D2 bus I would recommend taking the Ave Q exits. The D2 bus picks up right outside the escalators and the Guts bus just around the corner, one block to the left leaving the metro station. Make sure you pick the right exit or you will have to go through several cross walks to get where you really want to go. I like this station, because its safe, busy, and a convenient jumping off point for the rest of the metro stops.

Dear reader,…read more Franconia Springfield Metro may not be the flashiest station in the system, but it is absolutely one of the better ones to use. It is spacious, easy to navigate, and generally feels far less chaotic than some of the other stations in the area, which is a blessing in itself. Whether you are commuting regularly or just heading into the city for the day, the whole setup makes getting around feel simple and efficient. One of its best qualities is how practical it is. There is plenty of parking, it is easy to access, and it connects well for people coming from different directions, which makes the whole experience feel very civilized by Metro standards. The station also usually feels clean and well maintained, and overall it is just a reliable place to start or end your trip. No great drama here, just a station that does exactly what it needs to do and does it well. In my book, that earns high marks.
