Update: I have several dark hyperpigmented spots, including a large one on my face that have not faded. I went to see an another dermatologist, who said that this doctor likely used too high of a setting and an aggressive, and unnecessary tool for minor superficial spots. She said the marks are permanent and I will need to try lasers. I am so upset that Reinstadler was so careless. Also, the new derm took her time and look at all the spots on my face closely. Not rushing, not jist zapping or scooping out things without any warning. read more

Not only does Dr. Amy Reinstadler talk very fast during appointments so she can rush out the door, but she doesn't even see you when you come back in to get stitches removed and discuss your options. I had a biopsy done to see if what I had was severe eczema, psoriasis, or something else. When I had returned for the results, she said the results were inconclusive and it could be either eczema or psoriasis... but still wanted to treat it with Dupixent injections (probably a company she gets kick-backs from for prescribing it). I was very disappointed that I had to get stitches for no answers as to what I was actually suffering from. She then suddenly decided to take another biopsy from 2 other parts of the rash on my body (WHICH IS WHAT SHE SHOULD HAVE DONE THE FIRST TIME INSTEAD OF WASTING EVERYONE'S TIME). When we came back in the second time to hear the results, it came back as eczema. At least we finally got an answer as to what we were actually dealing with (after 2 prior unnecessary appointments), but I did not appreciate all the time I had to waste taking off work to keep coming back to this doctor who only spends 5 minutes with her patients and accomplishes so little in each visit just to get more of your money. Patients also have to pay for parking so this was all a huge waste of time and money. I also had a cyst removed from my back which also required stitches, but the doctor did not put enough stitches in so it kept reopening! She only put 2 stitches in my back which was the exact same amount I had received for the small biopsy I had done, and it was half the size of the cyst removal incision, which didn't make any sense at all! When I had returned to have the stitches in my back removed, the nurse thought it didn't look very good, so she took a picture of it and left to show it to the doctor instead of the doctor just coming in herself. The nurse returned saying the doctor said it looked fine. It obviously did not look fine as it was not completely healed and had some yellow puss in it. The incision did not heal for a month or 2 after that, all because the doctor did not put enough stitches in to close it up. During this time, we were in the process of discussing my options of how to heal my eczema, but she required separate appointments to discuss that even though I was visibly suffering (severe, pain, redness, swelling, burning, and itch). She just kept sending her nurse messenger to relay messages back and forth instead of actually taking the time to care for her patient. I had to deal with this for about 2 months before I gave up on her, as her only solution was to prescribe Dupixent, which is a very harsh medicine. Why would I want to go with the extreme and inject myself with something if I don't absolutely have to? There are plenty of other options out there worth exploring, but she did not care to discuss any other options with me. The cherry on top of this horrible experience was she charged my HSA card 4 or 5 months after my last visit for no reason. I contacted my insurance and they said this was an unauthorized charge because she did not submit it within 90 days of my appointment, so luckily the charge was reversed and I got my hard-earned money back. But had I not discovered this fraudulent charge, the doctor would have happily kept my money. Do yourself a favor and go to a dermatologist who spends more than 5 minutes with you, cares about exploring different options for treatment, gives you the appropriate amount of stitches for your incision, doesn't make you pay for parking, and does not make you keep coming in for unproductive appointments. read more

I dislike having to give a bad review, but feel my experience should be shared. Dr Reinstadler was kind and professional - I enjoyed meeting with her and trusted her professional care. However, during my visit the items we discussed were positioned to me as "minor" and "up to you" and she used phrases like "we can take care of that really quick if you'd like". It truly is my fault for not having stopped to ask "how much is 'really quick' going to cost?'" While I expected some minor follow up charges for my visit, I did not expect a $500 invoice. I received no help or further clarifications on my calls to the office staff. Perhaps a surprise $500 invoice is not a big deal to some of their clientele, but it was to me. I will also note that no one from the office ever reached out to provide me the results of my tests. They were quick to invoice and follow-up on payment, but no communication regarding my treatment. Ocean Clinic is a business interested in making money. I get that. I just prefer medical practitioners who take time to explain options and costs, and maybe let me know whether or not they found any cancer. read more

I am disappointed and saddened to update my prior outstanding reviews but I feel it's important to state these comments. Several weeks ago, two days after I received a bill for my portion of the yearly Medicare deductible, I received a lengthy email from this office stating patients can no longer schedule an appointment with Dr. Reinstadler unless they agree to leave a credit card on file with their office. The email went on to state at length that the Intuit platform they will utilize to keep your credit card information on file is perfectly safe. They will use your credit card for copayments, deductibles and other payments due their office for procedures. In addition, if you want to pay by check, they need to be notified within 15 days to make this change. I have been a long time patient of Dr. Reinstadler and have never owed this doctor any money. I have excellent insurance and immediately sent a check to Dr. Reinstadler as I have always done in the past if payment was required. I found this email insulting and disrespectful, particularly since I have had a bleeding itchy raised red sore on my arm for the past three weeks. I have had melanoma in the past and now have to quickly find a new dermatologist to take care of this problem. In speaking to several of my other specialist physicians and also mentioning this to a family member who is a physician, the consensus of opinion is to find a dermatologist who doesn't require keeping my credit card in their office. This is a sad commentary but another reminder of how the practice of medicine has changed. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I hate having to write a bad yelp review, but I don't want this to happen to anyone else. Beware of The Ocean Clinic. The office staff is super rude and unprofessional to me on several occasions when I have called in or showed up to my appointments. I came in there months ago to have a mole looked at. Dr. Amy Reinstadler did a biopsy and it came back "precancerous" she told me I should have it removed. Of course I didn't want a cancerous scar on my back so I choose to have it removed. When it was time to get my stitches out one of her "staff" members removed my stitches (not the doctor) also She was training a girl while removing my stitches! She was have the training her work on me! I asked why she was using me as a "test person" for this girl and she said "this was a simple removal of stitches and she won't mess up." Ummm? Ok? I asked to see the doctor when she returned they said she won't be in until the next day. I came back and still had some stitches in me from the day before!! A month later my scar was getting much larger, more itchy, and painful. When I came in for a follow up she told me it was normal and it would go away. At this point I knew something was wrong and got a second opinion from another dermatologist. Since then I've gotten many second opinions who think what Amy did was wrong, and she should have sent me to a plastic surgeon to have the mole removed. Save yourself months of pain and frustration. Don't come here. Very unprofessional. read more

Dr Reinstadler is hands down the best dermatologist. I have gone through so many dermatologist for decades and no other doctor was able to treat my stubborn adult acne. I love Dr. Amy and her assistant. I had a large cyst on my shoulder but didn't have health insurance. I emailed a lot of dermatologist on Yelp with 5 stars and explained my situation. Ulmer Dermatology was the only office who contacted me and willing to work with me. The cyst seemed like it was going to burst because I've had it over 5 years and started to bother me. I told her I was a cash patient and just give me a price and I will come up with the rest to pay her. I didn't ask for a payment plan nor a discount but she just told me what it costs and proceeded to give me a price significantly less. I told her to cut it open and remove it right then and there. She was so gentle and told me everything I was going to experience and was done in an hour. I had a follow up 2 weeks later to get the stitches out. They care about people and will always go back. They are my official Dermatologist and highly recommend them. If they are in your insurance plan, then let them become your personal dermatologists. They do all kinds of stuff and experts in acne, check them out!!! read more

I saw Dr. Reinstadler in another location closer to my home, but now I travel to her in Newport Beach. The office is lovely - clean and beautifully designed, coffee machine with a variety of brews, impressive views, friendly staff. We had a rocky start getting my records over from the other office but since then it has been smooth sailing. I have brought all my family members with me and everyone likes and trusts Dr. Amy. She provides procedures that not all dermatologists do (like PDT with Levulan) for a full-service practice. Since not everything may be considered medically necessary by insurance, do double-check before opting for treatments, as you would at any doctor's office. read more

I started seeing Dr. Reinstadler when she was working in Long Beach, and followed her after she moved to Newport Beach full time. I received treatment for adult acne and cysts under my arm. I appreciate her swift, no BS approach to treatment. She cleared my facial acne, and is honest with me about necessary vs unnecessary treatments. I'm writing this review because Dr. Reinstadler is a good and trustworthy doctor, but also because I wanted to defend the office after reading her only one-star review. I've been struggling with acne since freshman year of high school, and as a 26 year old, I've been fighting an uphill battle for most of my adult life. I've been to several dermatologists over the years and have not felt the type of comfort and care I felt coming to Ulmer Dermatology. Dr. Reinstadler took time to listen to my concerns, my history, and ran on time. I did not feel rushed or that I was just another patient in line. Her approach to treat my acne consisted of an easy to do and most importantly, an affordable, regimen. No fancy or expensive products needed and my face has never looked better!! Dr. Reinstadler is fabulous! She's really smart and great with laser treatments. She's fixed some minor skin problems and helped even out my skin tone with IPL. I was a little nervous at first because I'd heard stories that Asian skin sometimes reacts more and I could end up with more dark spots. Luckily, no dark spots and the IPL also improved my skin tone! The IPL even cleared up the freckles on the back of my hands. I highly recommend Dr. Reinstadler. read more

I found Dr. Reinstadler through word of mouth and decided to try a consultation for my Psoriasis flair up. Her office staff was very courteous and she personally reviewed my medical history and reviewed my medication options for Biologics. She reviewed current evidence and convinced me to switch medications- this turned out to be a great recommendation. I am grateful i found such a caring dermatologist that took the time to help me as many other dermatologist i have consulted with are always rushed and explain nothing. I have since followed up with her for a second visit and i was just as impressed the second time around. She is a great physician and she has a loyal patient for life. I went to another derma for a year for adult cystic acne who rushed me through my appointments and sent me to his preferred pharmacist with hundreds spent on pills, potions and creams that did not work. He looked down on accutane and would not prescribe it even though it had worked in the past for me. I discovered he was not enrolled in the I pledge program and had wasted a year of time and money. I found Dr. Amy and she nailed it, prescribed it and I am on my way. She takes time and knows her stuff. She did a quick injection for a red spot whereas Dr. Belasco charged me and nickel and dimed me. If you want results and a caring demeanor go here! read more

Dr Reinstadler is so sweet and she is a great doctor! I went to her to get a cyst removed from my arm. She did an amazing job, just a tiny incision with minimal scarring after just a few weeks. I got the good news of a benign cyst within days, it was such an efficient and quick process. She and her staff were very professional. The office is clean and beautiful with stunning ocean views! My husband also went in to remove a questionable mole from his nose that also turned out to be benign. I plan to go to her again for 2 more cyst removals in the near future.
