Elk Grove Vision Center inside Costco is a great option if you need a same-day or next-day eye exam. They also welcome walk-ins when availability allows, which was really helpful since my usual optometrist was booked out four weeks and I needed an updated prescription quickly. The staff was friendly, and the check-in process was quick and easy. I saw Dr. Anhthu Do, and she was warm, professional, and had such a welcoming vibe that made me feel comfortable right away. She was very thorough during the exam, took her time, and explained everything in a way that was easy to understand and never made me feel rushed. She answered all of my questions with patience and made sure I understood my prescription and overall eye health. I felt well cared for and confident in her expertise. This is in the Costco of Elk Grove. It is called Elk Grove Vision Center. I already had a prescription and needed it filled. I had surgery on one eye and my vision changed. I didn't see the eye doctor. Only the techs at the counter. It's really convenient location right inside Costco. Make sure you take a number from the dispenser so you get a place. No line here. As you wait they have several cases of frames lining the wall. The 3 or for section to the right are Men's frames the middle is sunglasses and the left are for women. It was busy so I had ample time to pick out some frames that my wife and I liked. The tech asked for the primary card holder. I did see online that you don't need to be a Costco member to use this location but I didn't ask. The tech also asked if we had insurance which we did and they covered some of the glasses. I decided to get two pair since the insurance was almost paying for one and since we are Costco members we get an additional 50 bucks off two pair. He asked if I wanted Progressive lenses which I have never heard of. It's what they call bifocals now. It takes getting use to so with two sets of glasses I could bet one of both and use the Progressive when I get used to them. He said they would be done by two weeks. Great . Update. The lenses were done in just over a week. They texted me just a bit before they closed on a Saturday and they are not open on Sunday so kind of a bummer. I ended up going on Tuesday to get them The worker was very professional and fitted my two pair of glasses nicely. Very friendly and said if there are any problems to come in and they would fix them. No rush and spent the time to make sure I was happy. She said I should use the progressive lenses first for two weeks to get used to them and then I could use the regular ones for driving if I wanted to later. read more

She is understanding of people who may not love the eye doctor, she makes it quick and painless, and adds in a good laugh now and then. Her style makes it a calm, relaxing experience. This review is for the optical office inside Costco (Elk Grove) specifically the optometrist that works Wednesdays (with pediatric patients). It was December 2023 and I could not get into our regular optometry office for my son (6 years old) before the end of the year (benefits). I love Costco itself, their optical office were able to get us in within the next week or so, decided to give it a first time try. Man oh man was it a mistake! The optometrist was not patient with my son. I could sense the frustration in her voice when my son couldn't focus or kept moving his eyes. Our appt lasted for just maybe 15-20 minutes. This was red flag #1 when she wasn't very patient and my son felt bad for not being able to see the letters. She said she couldn't get him to 20/20, so she wrote us a prescription for new glasses to try for 6 weeks and then come back. Also, to bring his old glasses at appt #2. We came back 6 weeks later. We came early 15 minutes. We came in and she still had a hard time getting his prescription saying she doesn't know if it's too strong or weak. We were there for not even 5 minutes and told us to come back and bring his old glasses (since we forgot) and she will dilate his eyes next time. I said since we are already here, can you dilate him today..her excuse was red flag #2.. "since you came early we moved you since another patient was late so I'd rather have u come back next week plus u have to bring the old glasses anyway" which would be appt. #3. We felt rushed at both appointments. I was upset because we came early but ended up being pushed away from our full visit. Also, concerned she couldn't get his prescription on her own.. what if we lost his old glasses? I never went back to appt #3. I put those glasses she prescribed AWAY. He continued wearing his old glasses for a few months. I waited for the new year to make him an appt with my own optometrist which spent almost an hour with my son from start to finish.. very thorough and super patient with my son. He was able to get a new prescription for my son and explained to me how my son has a moderate astigmatism something Costco optical never mentioned. read more

Due to COVID, my regular optometry office closed for a while and only recently started taking limited appointments. Working from home, I felt that my vision changed and I wanted to get my eyes checked out to see if my prescription has changed. Luckily, Amy Nguyen's Optometry office is open and is accepting appointments. Staff: Prior to the appointment, I received a remind phone call and text which was nice. The staff (at least the day of my appointment) consisted of the front desk/receptionist and Amy. Staff was personable and friendly. Optometrist: Amy is personable, friendly and attentive. Make sure you go elsewhere, the Elk Grove optician office does not bundle the contacts and glasses prescription. They charge you twice as much as any other Costco optician, make sure to ask prices before scheduling and do not get optimap or dilation you'll be paying 300.00 just for exam alone! I got hit by Racquetball couple days ago and being on winter break from UC Davis and campus health services were closed around Christmas I happened to be in Costco and was able to walk in. There were no appointments available but as I explained my situation to the front desk person said let me tell the doc. Dr. Anhthu came out & was able squeeze me into her schedule. First of all, her office is inside Costco. But don't shy away from Dr. Nguyen if you don't have a Costco card! You can forgo the "membership bouncers" by just telling them your there for an eye appointment. I took my 1.5 years old daughter in for an appointment with Dr. Nguyen. She was quick & thorough. Snagged a last minute appointment with Dr. Tiffany Phan on a Saturday. Process was very quick, and I got my prescription in less than 20 minutes! Dr. Phan is very nice and personable!
