Not only did Dr. Sifri fix my teeth, but years and years later they are still in great condition. I am an actor in Los Angeles and I model for several agencies out here in Los Angeles so it is incredibly important for me to have my teeth in perfect condition. After a strong recommendation from another colleague of mine I made the risk of flying out to Madison to have Dr. Sifri look at my teeth. What a successful journey it was. Again, Dr. Sifri completely fixed the damage done and did so at an incredibly reasonable price too. They are nice, informative and obviously talented. I would recommend Dr. Sifri and Smart Dental to ANYONE including my own family. I hope that Smart Dental is a giant success, because amazing service like that is hard to find these days.

I show up to my first and only appointment during the Spring of 2021 after not having gone to the…read moredentist since before the pandemic began. There's an off-putting air in the office. At this point, not between any of my interactions with the staff, but it was palpable among the staff themselves. I chalk this up to just your everyday people post-ish-pandemic relearning how to socialize, whatever. I remember the receptionist mentioning they had a pretty light load that day, as I'd expected honestly, so I wasn't really sure what was up with the tension in the air. I'm pretty sure I recall a (therapy?) dog in the office, so I was chilling nonetheless. Dr. Pollan came in, and I was initially pleased with his reception to my questions/worry regarding not having gone to the dentist in over a year. My opinion quickly soured as he questioned if I was interested in veneers because of the small chip between my two front teeth. To be clear, this chip was 1-2mm MAX and was barely noticeable to myself, much less my friends and peers. Of course, the practice is located literally a stone's throw from frat row. For what it's worth, I'm sure the clientele was readily available. Not to mention, veneers were in the peak of their "fad" back then, so maybe it was a simple mistake in profiling me. Not saying all sorority sisters are into veneers, but if we were to be real, there is a certain vanity that aligns there. I was a girl in my early 20's at the time, so I understand where he might have been coming from. Although offended, I respectfully declined the offer and the appointment wrapped up quickly thereafter. For me, therein lies the problem I've been sitting with all these years later. I left feeling that the practice's objectives were put above my own care as a patient. To be asked if I was interested in veneers felt wildly inappropriate and to this day comes across as a predatory money-grab. Maybe Dr. Pollan was experiencing a drought in patients and was uncomfortable in his boredom when he suggested the procedure, but as a patient I don't believe his conduct is up for me to have to be left speculating. Today, when I'm reminded of this incident, all I hear is, "are you interested in me grinding down your perfectly healthy, perfectly functional, frankly beautiful teeth down to nubs for fake, semi-permanent replacements?" I hadn't even mentioned the minor chip in my teeth before he brought it up; not in vanity, function, self-esteem, or otherwise. To my understanding, the practice of dentistry is taught to act very conservatively in practice. That's what has me most appalled is the extreme Dr. Pollan went to so nonchalantly, over something no one else had even noticed or any dentist in the coming years would even dare to shave down just 1-2mm to make flush with the preexisting chip. What hasn't sat right with me is the fact that the office is in such close proximity to so many sororities and sits in the center of campus. It haunts me a little bit to think about this being a regular practice for Dr. Pollan, and if anyone else who didn't come in with the self-assuredness that I did has since fallen victim to this predatory approach. It breaks my heart to even think about the chance that a young girl with her own insecurities was just going in for a regular check-up and was ill-advised into such a consequential procedure. It's besides the point that I'm not a fan of veneers. For a male dentist, with authority and expertise on the subject, to suggest a completely unnecessary and severely consequential procedure to none other than a young woman, who's probably blindly following the direction of the professional, I think there are serious issues here. Imagine if a male doctor were assessing a female patient at her annual physical, and he suggests a referral to a plastic surgeon for a breast reduction. Even if we are being lenient here, it would hardly pass as professional if the patient hadn't formerly presented with any signs or symptoms relating to her breast health, and more importantly, had not initiated the conversation herself. You have to address the motives here. Are the patient's needs really being put first or are there ulterior motives at play? I'm not saying teeth and breasts are a direct comparison, but I do believe the analogy holds in that there are roles with gender and authority that I implore this office to seriously explore in addressing their own part in upholding an ethically and professionally sound business that sits at the center of a campus with young adults in their formative years. I can't help but question if Dr. Pollan was the reason for the palpable tension in the office that day. The implications here are damning if this wasn't a one-off. In summary, I believe people deserve to be treated as fully human, wholly-rounded individuals viewed as patients during health-related appointments rather than as an opportunistic clientele and truly hope there's recourse taken after reading my testimony.

The procedure was done pretty quickly, with little pain and the personal interaction/conversation was so pleasant. The office is very large, bright and beautiful. It really took away the gloom of coming to treat a painful tooth! I'd say the only con is having to pay everything upfront. It was just under $1,000 and that's a lot to come up with at once for some people, but you really can't avoid getting a tooth treated that could lead to infection. I think they could really benefit having a payment plan if authorized. Luckily it ended up being my Christmas present from some family. I'm not sure we could afford going here again (our dentist in Baraboo gave us a written referral to Capital, I think they have a partnership) but I do highly recommend it if you can afford the upfront cost. Great results and great specialists!

They were so caring-I was in so much pain-and they got me in early. They took a 3D Xray (not covered by insurance, but it was more than worth the money), which showed where the infection was. Dr. Downs showed it to me in the room and explained how he'd be fixing it by going UNDER the root canal, instead of removing the crown and re-doing the work. The technical skill alone is impressive, but the care was the most touching. They are so busy (I don't know when they even pause to eat lunch), but the brought me back in for the procedure (again, early because I was in pain) and the first thing they did was block me, so I wouldn't be in pain until my scheduled procedure time. I hope to never have that much tooth pain again. It really was miserable. But if it has to happen, I know where I'll be going immediately.

TERRIBLE! Zero stars. I write this review out of compassion for you, so that you will not encounter…read morethe things I have at Familia Dental in Madison, WI. I have not been to a dentist in many years but had an emergency when a crown I've had for over 30 years broke. I called and they would not give me an appointment but told me to come sit in the waiting room from 9-12 and if there was an opening they would get me in. I arrived a little after 9am to a giant waiting room with one person waiting for an appointment. They said they had a cancellation and gave me a 10 am appointment. I get in the back and it's all open. There are connected bays where you can stand up, look around and see everyone who's there and what's happening. I took the broken 30+ year crown along and showed it to the dentist who said he couldn't use it. Since my tooth is still alive I wanted to get a replacement crown and be done with it. The dentist, a younger male, said that no, a replacement crown would not work on the tooth post that had just lost the crown. He told me no, it's too heavy, and it won't work. Even though it had for over 30 years "somehow" it won't work now. He marked me for stupid, and he really thinks he's outsmarted me... So he wants to kill the tooth, fill it with cement and a metal post and build it up. I told him the crown came off because of what I was doing, and it will be fine as it has been for 30+ years. He continued telling me that NO, the crown won't stay on and he needed to do this drastic, invasive, painful, and expensive treatment instead. Then his assistant came in and boisterously announced in front of the other patient (from the waiting room) that my insurance does not pay for tooth colored crowns, only metal coverings. So they then told me they need $1400 from me to do the service if I want it tooth colored and $700 cash is due at each of the next two appointments. I asked if they could cover the exposed dentin layer today and they said no. I left with a dentin exposed "broken" (technically exposed) front tooth. They showed zero mercy and would not even coat the tooth for me and sent me out into the world exactly as I came in.---------- After that I went to a DIFFERENT CLINIC NOT FAMILIA and the dentist promptly glued my crown back together, positioned it in place and his very kind assistant began impressions; I left the appointment with a temporary crown cemented into place protecting the exposed dentin and giving me back my dignity as it was one of my front teeth. The crown from another dentist (not Familia) looks like my actual teeth, without pain, lies, embarrassment, shame, shadiness of not allowing an appointment and PS-- the clerk was wrong, I called my insurance provider and my insurance DOES pay for tooth colored treatments. Familia dental is absolutely awful!!! Don't ever go there!!! Familia Dental in Madison, WI was very, very shady at every stage of the process, and my care and dignity was not even on their list as they want to make an UNNECESSARY, EXPENSIVE, and PAINFUL project and process out of me. Run, don't walk away. Please leave Madison Familia Dental.
