I have been shopping at Natures Closet since it was in Bennington. I followed it to Williamstown…read morewhen it moved and have seen numerous ownership changes. Somehow, the store doesn't think it necessary to distinguish between mens and womens apparel. Many womens athletic clothes don't use numeric sizes anymore, using S, M, L. It can be difficult to recognize that one rack has mens and the next one womens This morning I went there to get some shirts and a fall jacket. My shopping was interrupted by a saleswoman who asked me if I was looking for mens clothes. This after I had been in the store for a good ten minutes, mistaking some racks for mens and vice versa. I said I was. She then proceeded to try to explain where the mens clothes were. I didn't quite understand her and needed clarification, what racks are for men? For some reason, she took umbrage at my confusion and replied dismissively about one side of the store being for men. I asked if it included the wall racks. She said the right side of the store was for men, giving me the impression that helping me was low on her priority list. When I said, of course, all stores are men on the right and women on the left, another saleswoman chimed in with an "I beg your pardon." So I repeated myself. I had two shirts worth $200 in my hands and had come in prepared to spend at leadt that much, but after the attitude and treatment I received, I decided to buy what I had and leave. At the counter the saleswoman folded my shirts and then just stuffed them in the bag. I've been shopping here for nearly twenty years. Never again and I will tell everyone who will listen to me about this experience. Shabbiest treatment I've gotten from retail in decades.

Finding a women's apparel shop while visiting Williamstown is next to impossible. Zanna is one of…read moretwo such stores in the small, beautiful college town and tourist area. The store stocks a lovely selection of clothing, but my biggest complaint is the service by the sales staff. Since I visit the area frequently, I have been in this store many times over the years, and have had the same experience repeatedly. There are always at least two sales women in the store. When I walk in, they always turn their backs, and avert eye contact when I try to get their attention to engage them. It's very strange. The last time I was there, I walked in, tried on coats in different parts of the store, walked up to the jewelry counter, tried on necklaces in the mirror. I had a close encounter with a saleswoman who faced me, grabbing a jewelry piece for the one client that the two sales people were doting over. I raised my hand and opened my mouth to ask for help, but "whoosh" she turned around and left. I understand if people are too busy to wait on a new customer, but that was not the case here. The two sales women hung behind the counter as their one engaged customer was in the changing room. In several visits over the years to this store, this is the tack that they take. There is one customer who is fawned over, and the others ignored. It is a puzzling way to do business. My friend laughed when I told him the story, and said it was like a scene from the movie "Pretty Woman". Indeed I felt some resonance with Julia Robert's predicament at being dismissed by the snooty sales women on Rodeo drive. The difference, however: not only am I NOT a call girl- I presented there clean, neat, and appropriately dressed. It is too bad that the environment at the Zanna Boutique is so exclusive and off-putting. Eye contact, a greeting or an offer to help could make this a fun place to shop. It would also help the stores sales numbers, I am sure.

What I didn't expect was a top-notch consignment store, but The Fashion Plate is just that! The interior is quirky as the store is in a historic colonial home, but that made the shopping experience all the more unique and fun. The prices are very reasonable and there is a wide-range from designer to accessible, every day pieces. There are also clothes and accessories for men, children, pets, and the home. The staff were friendly and welcoming, but they also gave me the space to browse without feeling pressured to buy, which for me is a major plus. I spent about 45 minutes browsing and trying on items so I would suggest giving yourself time to really explore the entire store--as one reviewer noted there is a lot to see (but I did not think this was an issue--more treasures to find!). My haul from the Fashion Plate included a vintage Chanel necklace, Chanel cashmere gloves (odd buy in July but winter is coming--haha), Lanvin ballet flats, deadstock Gucci blooms purse, Chanel wedges (I ended up wearing these to the wedding), a Henri Bendel backpack, a cool painting, and a pair of Chanel cambon ballet flats. They only stock authentic items (they explained their rigorous authentication process) and I appreciate that commitment to not selling replica goods. There was so much more to tempt me! I will certainly be back to shop this fun boutique.

"I'm just going to stop in Wilmington to get syrup."…read more Three dresses, two skirts, one top and $132 later ($135 if you count the $3 ATM fee from the liquor store across the street. Cash only folks)... turns out going to Wilmington for syrup is a lot like going to Target for toothpaste. Who knew such a fashion mecca could exist on the outskirts of a forest? Seriously, the owner's buying game is on point. I think I walked into the dressing room with at least 40 items. None of which would be useful for a weekend of camping. But all of which were great brands, new or basically new, ridiculously cute and so reasonably priced. But don't worry. I also got my syrup. Let's hope I don't spill it on all my new fashion finds.

Snarky, rude and poor customer care…read more There is a sales woman with brown long hair and light eyes who was unapologetically rude and ruined her own sale. My husband was carefully replacing a few socks that my daughter (3yo) had disturbed from their place on display. The saleswoman started to wave her hand frustratedly in my daughter's direction, while repeating "could she NOT! Could she NOT!" Lady, she's 3! And it was being refolded and replaced. I hope the owner knows that I walked OUT. I was planning on spending several hundreds of dollars but, because of that poor attitude, why would I support a brand that hires staff like that?!? When my husband told the woman that this was unacceptable and he was replacing the items to their original place and folding them, she proceeded to tell him to "get a grip sir!" Staff training on customer care is lacking and should immediately be addressed!
