After living in various states/towns around the US, I can say with confidence that the Daily…read moreHampshire Gazette is overwhelmingly the best local newspaper I have ever seen. Even in this day and age when newsprint is a threatened species, the Gazette plays a vibrant and important role in our community here in the Pioneer Valley. We get the most important national and even international news, and the coverage of the local issues is just first-rate. The Gazette is our go-to for all the local events and activities and their reporters are careful, comprehensive and really understand the community they are living and working in. We find we look forward to the special sections: Health, Business, Cities/Towns, Viewpoint, etc.. on various days and the weekend insert is simply invaluable. We also appreciate not only the editorial pages but the letters to the editor as well - reading the opinions of our neighbors on both sides of an issue. The subscription is worth it, and in fact, when we travel we don't put a hold on the paper but instead have them 'reroute' our papers to local schools and senior care facilities. We are proud to have such an incredible local news source and will always support them.

Overall the gazette is a very fun local newspaper that lets you have an eye on the community like…read morenothing else could. However there a few things wrong with it: 1) it's loaded with typos on a regular basis. Maybe I should be the editor. and 2) a 1 year online subscription costs $99! Ninety-nine dollars? The Springfield Republican is free online. Also I live in Salt Lake City, and for $45 (plus a 10 dollar gift certificate to the grocery store) I get 24-7 online access and the Friday, Saturday and Sunday Tribune delivered to my door for a year. Yup. so... why would anyone else pay $100 for an online version of a small town newspaper?

This place reminds me of a Ocean State Job Lot. If you haven't been there, it's basically a place…read morethat sells factory seconds, overstock, fire-sale stuff like books, housewares, food and bathroom/kitchen items. The prob have some automotive stuff as well. The reason we visited is we were on vacation and my mom loves thrift stores. I knew this wasn't that, but my mom loves any kind of bargain and I wanted to check it out as well. To me, even for what it was, it kind of sucked. Maybe other locations are better - I would think they have to be to stay in business. Like another reviewer mentioned, you end up in a bank-style line and they had just one cashier open. The line got quite long, luckily we beat the rush and were pretty close to the front for what was, imo, an unacceptable time because they had several people working and they wouldn't open another register. In the end I gave my mom cash for a few items I easily could have lived without (snacks and such) and walked out. Had she not been there, I would have left sooner (after about 5-7 mins with no movement) instead of the 10 mins I waited in the same spot. This was on a Friday too. Surely that's when people get paid AND spend their $. Not a fan. Won't be back. Save yourself some time, just pay the extra 5-15% and go somewhere they actually have figured out that when 10+ people are in 1 line, you open another register.

First time shopping here. Great finds, love the mish mash style and extra low prices. Super…read morehelpful. Selection is wide arrangement from books to nuts. Lots of free parking. Will return again soon.
