Normally I would give the store five stars. However, my most recent experience shopping there was less than pleasant. In fact, it was notably strange. Upon entering the store my friends and I were greeted by an employee that I had never seen before. She gave us a rundown of the store while we were looking around and I politely told her that we had been there before and didn't need to be told where and what things were. That was excusable. However, the experience got stranger. I was looking through a box and found a loose pair of pantyhose that I was thinking about purchasing. The employee entered the other room where my friends and I were Coincidentally, I picked up my bag and the pantyhose and went over to another section at the same time she was entering. In doing that I think I may have set off a shoplifting alarm in her head. Without asking, she picked up the pantyhose next to my bag and told us that she was going to put them up front. I protested because I wasn't sure if I wanted her to do that. She proceeded to tell me in somewhat of a scolding tone that she was going to bring them up front (regardless of my protests) and that they should have been left in their packaging (there was no packaging). After this encounter, she kept her eye on us consistently. I tried on two dresses and she interrupted my conversation to ask me a question about the dress I had on. She also asked loudly if anyone was in the dressing room as I was clearly changing in there. I found this whole experience strange and frankly invasive. I also felt singled out because of some unfounded (and obvious) suspicion. I do enjoy Castaways and I have been a long-time patron. However, I am reluctant to go in the store again because I would not like to have another encounter like the one I had today.

When I got home and took the shoes out of the box I noticed several scuff marks on the shoes. I called and spoke to Kate. She said I could bring the shoes back. I brought them back two days later. The owner informed me that shoes would've never left her store in that condition. In other words - I must've scuffed them. I explained that I hadn't worn them, so couldn't possibly have made scuff marks. She said maybe they got scuffed in the shoe box. What? That doesn't even make sense! Her Customer Service is lacking and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. Needless to say they've lost my business.

There are so many lovely things to browse, especially if you're looking for something warm, cozy, and special. Quality clothing is worth the price in terms of fit and longevity. The sales staff are very friendly and helpful and well informed about their products. What is especially nice is when they offer sales. My wife picked up a beautiful brand name coat for a substantial discount over the price on the tag. Of course the tag price is just something someone made up and not based in reality- however- it was nice to be able to pick up such a beautiful item at a very reasonable price. I might have visited 2 or vintage stores before but by far this is the best one I've walked into. It's two floors of cute vintage items including clothing. Prices here are a little more than the usual vintage but that's because they have so much value. I definitely recommend the visit if staying in hunter.
