This is a fabulous place to enjoy live Irish music. I recommend getting there early as the place gets packed. We were early and lucky enough to find two seats at the bar right up front. Well - the service was friendly. That's about all I can say to recommend this place. But I would not recommend it to tourists in Ireland unless you are college-aged and/or wanting to have a hen or stag party. The food is average but expensive. It's a bar that plays American music. I was disappointed to have been misled by the Yelp reviews. sorry An Pucan, not your fault, you were just being what you are, a party bar for young people. The reviews from others were misleading. If you are my demographic- well-traveled, mid 40s and older, don't waste your time and money on this one. Don't worry they will do fine without your patronage. :-) read more

Stopped in during a stay in Galway and it was a really fun pub. It seems like a popular place for the locals. We saw a few bachelorette parties here while we had dinner. We got the proper prawn scampi and the Cajun chicken pasta and both dishes were really good. Would definitely recommend finding a table before it gets too busy! read more

The staff was lovely but a little scatterbrained which is forgivable because it was a very busy day and they only recently opened back up after Covid. Our food and drinks got served quickly. I had fried calamari as a starter and it was delicious and filling. The skewers and couscous were very bland, I wouldn't order it again. The jalapeño burger was enjoyed by my boyfriend. We had an hour and 15 minute timer which was more than enough for two meals and a few drinks. Overall good experience. read more

Great food.. but our server, while he was nice.. he was clueless. He didnt know the menu and couldnt answer any questions. We thought he might just be new. The food... it was good.. but wasnt spectacular. I ordered a fish sandwich, it was okay. We missed the live music, I wanted to stay for that but it was much later. read more

Loved this pub! It was my favorite part of Galway. Great service and an awesome band that plays every Thursday night. Not only was their choice in cover songs superb but they were also very good:) Very entertaining. Loved the vibe of this pub more then any others. read more

Great and spacious pub with great food and music! Staff was kind and quick as well. After eating such heavy meals throughout my trip to Ireland, i was excited to see such an extensive menu! Of course with the normal pub fare of fish and chips, burgers, etc, but also creative salads as well! I went with the falafel salad and it was delicious! Had a quick bite here before catching the train. Had the chowder with was laden with fish/ shellfish. Absolutely delicious! Will be back!

Really good food and accommodating staff but be warned, this bar is not safe for women. My friend and I were harassed by a drunk man and witnessed several other drunk men disturbing the peace/bothering tables of individuals peacefully eating. Great pub to visit while in Galway. We stopped in for a drink and a quick bite. The menu has a lot of pub favorites to choose from. Live music started while we waited for our food. Went here based on a friends recomendation, and I was not let down. It was a packed house, but the staff was still friendly and speedy. The drinks were great, and the food was delicious. We had the crab claws, seafood platter, and a bowl of mussels. All delicious, but the mussels stole the show, so fresh, great broth, and enough to share.....if your nice enough. read more

Fun pub in the heart of Galway. Live music most nights. I was too curious and had to try the nachos. While not at all like American nachos they were quite tasty. Chips were covered with a meaty sauce that resembled bolognese and mozzarella cheese. The "guacamole" tasted strongly of dill (odd). Very overrated and I have to question some of the 5 star reviews on here. Firstly the pint was pure muck compared to Taffe's Burger was a far far cry from what they serve at John Keogh's gastropub. Brought my 10 and 7 year olds Sunday early eve to catch some traditional music but the sound is so overwhelming you really can't chat above it, if you move back to the rear they play some other recorded music there. I know a bar needs to default to higher versus low volume, but a little adjusting is definitely needed here. Considering the food is not of the standard you'll find at other pubs in town it is a little overpriced. Overall it's definitely lively but too many other great choices in Galway to return any time soon. read more

Hands down my favorite pub from my week in Ireland. From the live music to the whisky flights and decor, it satisfied all my hopes. In the front you can have the pub experience with seats made out of bourbon barrels, live music and an excellent variety of drinks and food. In the back there is a fancier cocktail bar and an outdoor patio with a great vibe. read more

I love this place--it's in my top 3 favorite pubs in Galway, without a doubt. The food's great, the atmosphere is great, there's live music 7 days a week, the staff is cool, and they show the latest episodes of Game of Thrones when it's airing. We stopped by An Pucan after a Tour to the Cliffs of Moher. We both started off with Guinness and they have do a great pour! Our meals were tremendous. I had the dish with muscles and penne and wow was it flavorful. They had parmesan cheese on the muscles/penne which just helped the flavor of the whole dish. Everyone we asked said to come here for the match and they were spot on - it was jammers and such a good place to watch it. There were plenty of screens so the fact that it was so busy wasn't an issue. We didn't get food but saw loads of it going out and it looked yum. read more

There were 30 of us in Galway to celebrate the wedding of my son. As parents of the groom, my husband and I threw the "rehearsal party" at An Pucan. As I was looking on Yelp for a place for the party, I read many reviews of many pubs in Galway. It is so hard to judge a place never having been there. But the reviews of An Pucan stuck out as having the traditional vibe I was looking for. I called and the manager was very helpful in setting up the party for 30 people. When we arrived the staff was friendly and responsive. Food was great. Our party was a great success. The outdoor beer garden is a bonus. Thanks to the staff at An Pucan for making our celebration even more special. read more

We had a lovely evening with outstanding traditional music and some terrific food. The cheese plate was especially memorable! Also, the pan fried chicken with tarragon sauce was delicious. Brown bread starter was great, especially paired with the cheese. The goat cheese salad was also very very good. The kids meals were spot on. The fish and chips, while very tasty, was a bit soggy. Service was brisk. We returned the next evening but the food was not as good. The trad wedges were just OK. The brisket blaa was very tough, but had nice flavor. This rating is solely for the bar, not for the food. An Pucan has 3 bars total, but every bar is usually packed, I noticed that going to the outside bar seemed to be quicker. It usually took me a while to get a drink at the bar in the middle, and when it was finally my turn they ran out of the beers that I wanted. The outside part of An Pucan is awesome, it is somewhat enclosed so even in the rain you can make your way outside. The live music was alright, would definitely come back if I ever return to Galway. read more
