First things first, no food here, just drinks. Second, live trad music at 6pm & 10pm when I went in early October. Seating is tight so get there early & grab a few beers and find yourself a spot. This was a fun pub and the beers and music were just what I wanted. I plan to come back the next time I'm in Galway.

The table was in a medium sized room away from the music which was great as you could hold a conversation. Our server came over quickly to take our drink orders and once we had the drinks be places our order, cottage pie and fish and chips. The cottage pie was served in a small, but not too small oval baking dish with a nicely browned top on the potatoes. It also came with a side of gravy which was a nice touch. Digging in there was a good amount of pulled well seasoned brisket with carrots mixed. Very tasty dish. The fish and chips arrived with a good portion chips and a moderately sized piece of well fried fish. The fish was very fresh and flaky and the breading was very light so it didn't over power the fish. We had a pleasant meal with two great servers, a manager that wouldn't give up on finding us a table and great music (acoustic guitar) to keep us enter. Crane Bar is a quintessential Irish pub with traditional live music. I was able to catch some live music on this particular visit and it was truly wonderful. The biggest difference I noticed at Crane Bar was that it is expected that everyone is quiet during the music. Most other Irish pubs don't mind some chatter above the music but here, it is expected that you be silent during some songs. The staff won't be shy about shushing you either. I hadn't encountered this elsewhere in Ireland and I was told by a local that this is fairly uncommon for pubs. It just goes to show how central live music is to the Crane Bar experience. Beyond that, the pints were cold and the service was quick. I highly recommend stopping in to Crane Bar for a traditional Irish pub experience.

The restaurant in the hotel looked very boring so we decided to check out Porterhouse. When we arrived there it was FULL with locals. As we had a toddler , so they seated us in a private dining area outside the bar to comply with the regulation that kids aren't allowed in bars after 9 pm. Our server was very friendly. The staff was really good! He took our orders, got us to try a few beers and whiskeys before we finalized our orders to ensure that we really enjoy what we order. At this point we were just blown away by the hospitality despite being extremely crowded. We ordered two pints of beer, a shot of whiskey, fish and chips and a vegetarian curry dish. Everything tasted fantastic. The place itself was huge and the ambiance was of the traditional Irish pub. Brick walls, good music, fantastic pours, great food and warm smiles all around.
